There are many ways in which a poor relation might make herself useful to her newly discovered kin – but Miss Jane Pemberton never expected guarding her uncle’s household from danger to be one of them.Yet that’s exactly what occurs when a sudden murder plunges Ebonport, and Jane’s family, into chaos. As dark deeds brew around her, Jane finds herself facing far greater risks than bringing embarrassment to the family...
Blythe Baker is a thirty-something bottle redhead from the South Central part of the country. When she’s not slinging words and creating new worlds and characters, she’s acting as chauffeur to her children and head groomer to her household of beloved pets.
Blythe enjoys long walks with her dog on sweaty days, grubbing in her flower garden, cooking, and ruthlessly de-cluttering her overcrowded home. She also likes binge-watching mystery shows on TV and burying herself in books about murder.
Lady Martha Galway and Lord Adam Murray didn't like each other as children. And now all grown up. Adam and his family are going to dinner at Martha's house. They have both been told that they have to behave themselves. Martha doesn't don't know it yet but they will have to live in the same house for about a month. It is shocking to Martha when she finds out her older sister is marrying his older brother. They will live together as a family so they can get to know each other better. Is this plan going to make things better or make it worse? As the two are working together their feelings start to change. What does this mean? Wouldn't it be nice if they fell in love? But there is an evil person. Whom could it be? There is intrigue, drama, suspense, twists, romance. This is a page-turner and you will not want to put this down. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
I have recently finished all six of Blythe Baker's Jane Pemberton mysteries. Loved them all. An Inevitable Murder, book 2, is off to a quick start with a second murder in the small coastal town, and one of Jane's cousins is the number one suspect. Jane believes her cousin is innocent and feels compelled to find the real murderer, even if it puts her own life in jeopardy. At the same time, she is developing a relationship with her young wheelchair bound cousin, Celia. Though Jane's uncle and other two cousins are cold, Jane feels a loyalty to the family. My one and only tiny complaint is that her proofreader does not catch her misuse of nominative and objective pronouns. After a while, the misuse becomes a bit painful. Wish Blythe had more of Jane's mysteries coming, but I think the series is completed. So I am beginning another of Verity's series. Celia Martin
I couldn't get the first book in this series, so I started with #2, and I should have waited. Although the author filled in some details, referred to past events, it would be better to read these in order because so much about the reason Jane comes to the home of her uncle and cousins is in the first volume, and there is a murder that is referred to often and affects family life in book #2. This book starts abruptly, like the second episode of a tv special without the "in the first episode" recap. The characters are interesting, but are they to be trusted? The uncle has a vile temper and spreads it around. People in the community seem to be much more interested in social standing and moving up than in really being friends. There is a murder to be solved, but details are vague and it is unclear why the person who is the main suspect is in the spotlight at all.
Family drama continues for Jane hearing the confession from Mr.Thorne to commit murder, now deceased Pemberton Heights everyone here had two sides Her Uncle was all about one’s reputation, that mattered of which his children though differently about. The thanks for trying to clear his name her life is now threaten Good series, and good female role in Jane Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Miss Jane Pemberton is a companion to her invalid cousin. In addition to caring for her cousin, Miss Jane soon finds herself with another murder to solve. I admire Miss Jane's keen observation skills.
I enjoyed this Jane Austen inspired mystery. It's a quick and clean read.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical mysteries.
I borrowed a copy from Kindle Unlimited. I've expressed my honest opinion.
This is the second book of a new series and it picks up immediately from where book 1 left off. Once again, Jane is caught up in her family drama. Murder and more secrets abound. This is a great new series. It's well written, reminiscent of a Gothic mystery and the characters are certainly interesting.

Arabella, Celia's sister, is suspected in the death of Adam Westhouse, Arabella's boyfriend. Rumors abound, especially when a fight breaks out at the funeral. Mr. Pemberton hatches a plan to protect his reputation. Can Jane figure out the murderer and the motive?
Jane's observations and further mystery solutions keep the readers attention. Amidst strange family dynamics and murder mystery, the author writes a clean story. No vulgarity.
Arabella Pemberton, eldest daughter, now old enough to be thinking of being married, vivacious, exciting, sparkling, when she chooses, disagreeable, spoilt, sulky when she chooses otherwise. But would she stop at murder when thwarted?
I have enjoyed the second on Jane's adventures. With her quick intellect and clear thinking, she has managed to solve the puzzle that is the next thorn in the side for the family. Looking out for the next one.
