Stalking the Wild Asparagus, Stalking the Healthful Herbs, and Stalking the Blue-Eyed Scallop. Part inspiration, part identification, part cookbook. Full of wit and wisdom. Essential reference works.

Enjoyed Gibbons' knowledge and enthusiasm for wild foods, did not enjoy the casual racism and sexism that crop up here and there.

Stalking the Blue-Eyed Scallop  by Euell Gibbons (Crown Publishing Group 1987) (641.694). This is a guidebook for gathering wild foods at the seashore by the master at locating wild sustenance. Remember, this is the man who uttered the immortal line, in reference to a pine cone, "Many parts are edible." This book is both hilarious and informative, and it has the all-time best title. My rating: 9/10, finished 2007.

This was an excellent book. I love the cover, the illustrations, his first hand accounts of foraging from the sea, and the recipes sound delicious. I only have one thing that could heve been changed to make this book really awesome. I did not like how the recipes were in the text of the book. They were not their own seperate entity on the page. It makes it a bit difficult to find if you want to use one, but ofcourse this is minor. So thanks Euell Gibbons for a great book!

Gibbons wrote many books about the pleasures and benefits of gathering wild food and the natural history involved - kind of a combination of travel, survival, and nature.

This might get another star if Gibbons second favorite recipe ingredient wasn't MSG.
