(Free translation from the book cover )Esperanza Ganz, a Jewish whore Buenos - Aires, reveals the secret to her daughter: she, her mother and grandmother were Jewish prostitutes. Their lives were bound magic ring transmitted from mother to daughter, from generation to generation. The book is based on the story of Jewish pimps organization, "Zvi Migdal, who worked in Buenos Aires in 1870-1930.
Members gathered Jewish girls in Poland and Lithuania, which traded at auctions and served them all their lives.
The Jewish community was fighting against "untouchables" in all - power, inter alia, refused to pray with them that synagogue and refused to come to the graves in the Jewish cemetery. "Untouchables" have decided therefore to establish a 'Jewish underworld, an alternative of their own, with a cemetery of the untouchables, a synagogue and hopes of the untouchables, and did so. Affair, stirred the Jewish world, exploded when one managed to prostitutes, Rachel Lieberman, to escape captivity, and was brave enough to testify in court against the police and members of the organization and its leaders.
While most fled court members from Buenos Aires, only a minority were caught. But those caught were deported to Uruguay on Article vulnerable nation, and soon returned to their business. Now, not organized as a network, rather than in large brothel, but a street pimp.
After the close of the Jewish community organization has done all it can to erase the memory of Zichron community. However, the story of the "untouchables" continues to resonate among those born in Argentina, as he reached the Ilan Sheinfeld, who studied Spanish and traveled twice basic research trips in Buenos Aires, to find materials on the amazing story.

"מעשה בטבעת" הוא סיפור גילגולה של טבעת בעלת יכולות מיסטיות של מרפא שעוברת מדור לדור וגורלן של שתי המשפחות הכרוכות בטבעת זו : משפחת ברגמן עתירת הנכסים ומשפחת גנץ שנשותיה היו זונות.
הסיפור מעוגן במאורעות הסטורים של יהדות מזרח אירופה ויהדות ארגנטינה ובעיקר בסיפור קהילת הטמאים היהודים בארגנטינה. סיפור הקמת הקהילה בבואנוס איירס, תוך ניצול מחפיר של מצוקת היהודים שמסרו את בנותיהן בתקווה לחיים טובים יותר בארגנטינה אולם התגלגלו לזנות.
בראשית הסקירה אציין כי הספר כתוב היטב, אבל הוא משתרך עמודים על פני עמודים כשלא תמיד ברורה מטרת השתרכות זו ותרומתה לעלילה, למעט התעקשות לתאר את ההיסטוריה בפרטי פרטים. מאורעות חיי הדמויות המרכזיות חוזרים על עצמם מדי דור ודור כביכול לרמוז לקורא כי ההיסטוריה חוזרת. והיא אכן חוזרת במשך 460 עמודים. דבר זה בעיקר פגם בהנאה שלי וגם הוריד מהניקוד שהענקתי לספר.
הנקודה השניה שהיתה בעייתית בעיניי, ובסופו של דבר גם תרמה לציון הסופי של הספר היא ההתעקשות של הסופר לתאר בפרטי פרטים שיגולים של הדמויות המרכזיות בספר, עד כי בשלב מסוים הרגשתי שאני לא קוראת את "מעשה בטבעת" אלא את "50 גוונים של השתגלות". ממש התמרמרתי כנגד הספר. מה שהתחיל כהבטחה לפנטסיה יהודית מרתקת הפך לתיאורים בוטים של מעשי שיגול שונים. נקעה נפשי מסקס בתולים, וסקס גברים, וסקס של זונות, וסקס של אהבה, וסקס של נשים עם נשים, ואונס. בחלק מהמקרים הסופר מתעלה על עצמו וטורח בתיאורים גרפיים מיותרים.
מתן חרמוני בביקורת שכתב על הספר באתר הארץ מחדד את הנקודה הזו :
"מה שמטריד בעיקר ברומן של שיינפלד הוא שבתור מי שנסע מתוך חירוף נפש להציל את סיפורן של הנשים הנשכחות, הוא מוליך את הקוראים בתוך אודיסיאה סקסואלית בעלת טבע מעט הפכפך. מחד גיסא, לב הקוראים נכמר בשל המזל הרע שהיה מנת חלקן של הבתולות התמות שנפלו קורבן לברוני תעשיית המין הרשעים של בואנוס איירס. מאידך גיסא, דרך המסירה קצת מקשה על מלאכת ההזדהות."
ראו זאת כאזהרה למי שאינו מעוניין להיחשף במהלך הקריאה לתיאורים פורנוגרפיים מיותרים.
הנקודה השלישית שתרמה להורדת הציון של הספר היא הדיכוטומיה של הגורל שמציב המחבר: או שהנשים יהיו חולות וימותו בצער ובחולי רב, או שהן יהיו זונות מנוצלות. בסיפור הזה אין נשים מאושרות שחיו חיים שיגרתיים ומלאים.
את הסיפור מוסרת לקורא אספרנסה גנץ, זונה יהודיה מארגנטינה, שהעניקה לבתה פלורה את ספר תולדות משפחתה.
בספר היא מתארת את הנסיבות שהובילו את חייהן של סבתה רבה לאה ואימא שלה אסתר, שתיהן גם היו זונות מכורח נסיבות היסטוריות טראגיות.
היא טווה בסיפור חייהן את קורות משפחת ברגמן ואת האופן שבו השתלבו בהיסטוריה המשפחתית שלהן באמצעות טבעת מסתורית שנגנבה ממשפחת ברגמן ע"י אבי אימא . לטבעת נודעו סגולות מרפא ובמיוחד ריפוי ממחלת הנפילה, אולם לאורך הדורות היא הביאה על שתי המשפחות גורל אכזר ומר.
רק בארץ ישראל הצליחו שתי המשפחות לקרוע את עצמן מהגורל המר שצפנה הטבעת בחובה.
מחד יש לסיפור פוטנציאל אדיר והוא גם מעניין ומרתק בחלקו. מאידך, מאחר והסיפורים חוזרים על עצמם בוורסיה כזו או אחרת בחלק האחרון של הספר חווים ירידה מתמשכת בקשב ואני לפחות הרגשתי לאות מסוימת. אני חושבת שעם עריכה טובה יותר שתהדק את העלילה וצמצום תיאורי הסקס, זה יכל להיות ספר מצויין. אבל כפי שהוא, מבחינתי הוא נשאר רק בגדר ספר טוב.

This book has all the ingredients to be an excellent book:
Jewish communities before World War,
A touch of magic and legend, delicious and disturbing historical untold story, homosexuality, prostitution, struggles over generations but something huge is missing and makes it impersonal and annoying .
I can not put my finger exactly what is missing - maybe it should have some spark .A shine (what is today called Magic).
Part of the problem is that the characters are described superficially and we dont really see thier inner world or understand why they are doing what their doing (the character of Bella is the best example) and the narrative is not consistent.
Another part is that the language is uneven - at times Felt pretentious and high and at times ordinary day to day language.
You can feel that there was a great work bringing the story and thought was put how to build the story but the end result is amateurish and unprocessed story .
there are mistakes in the timeline of the story ( 4 years mistakes in the time line of the story ) .
The lack of editorial hand is the most of what is felt in this book and its a shame cause it could have been amazing sbook.

One of the best books I have ever read - and I actually read it four times already. It's like a good classic movie that you can watch again and again and you never get tired of it.
I actually read this book is Hebrew but it's written so well, I'm sure the English version is as good.
It's a journey you'll never forget, that's going to leave a m,ark on you for ever.

Too long, too many themes, some inappropriate descriptions.

I find it crazy, that you can be handed over to a "pimp" to be used for whatever. I know it can happen. I see it a lot on crime shows that I watch, I just couldn't imagine what those women and this lady went through during all of this. You really get a sense of her emotions..how she was feeling and how horrible it was.
You literally see it through her eyes, almost like you are living it as well. The writing is awesome in this book. I found it a good read. Probably not for everyone. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. You just get this overwhelming feeling of pity, but happiness as well, when yousee her pull through it all.
I received this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion/review.

Fascinating, albeit horrifying piece of dark Jewish history; the trafficking of poor Jewish girls and young women from eastern Europe and their sexual enslavement in Argentina, which occurred between 1870 to 1930.
I felt the explicit sexual descriptions were unnecessary and uncomfortable, and the writing style a little uneven (particularly the last parts that become a first person pov in a more "simple" style instead of the omniscient, lyrical language used before), but it does shed light on issues that the Jewish community would rather leave forgotten and also provides interesting look into Jewish life in the 19th century including matters not usually discussed such as sexuality and homosexuality.

I did not realy finished this book. I understood that I just do not want to go back and read it. At the beginnign it wa interesting - mysterious ring, Kabbala. But then the story started to grow more and more branches, more and more characters. It was hard to follow and, to be honest, not interesting.
The subject of the book supposed to be quite interesting - jewish women that were selled and worked as prostitutes in South America in the beggining of 20th century.
I hate leaving books unfinished, but sometimes it happens. still, may be someone else would be more interested than me.

A tale of generations surrounding a ring
Frustrated with the ending. So much detail in the book and the ending has no resolution. It does make me want to research if white slavery did exist in Argentina. We're Jewish women stolen from Europe to be slaves in brothels? But there is so much death and destruction with no redeeming factors.

not great
this book gives some insight into what was happening with Jewish women who were bought for the brothels. It could have been better if a few more historical facts were inserted. Overall a book if you havent got anything else. to read.
