Letters of Advent: 25 Days Of Moving From Lament To Joy

Rate this book
Christmastime is easily considered to be one of the most joyful seasons of the year worldwide.
But what are we to do when, approaching the celebration and festivities of Christmas, our
personal season of life looks a lot different than we had expected, we are confused by our
current circumstances, we are lamenting things lost, and joy seems incredibly far away?
This Advent season, Klint Pleasant invites us to slow down during one of the seemingly busiest
seasons, take a step back from the noise of technology, from texting, social media, and e-mails,
and sit with and read through written letters. In a world where undivided attention, pace to
process, and holding space is increasingly difficult to come by, letters provide an avenue to
connect and communicate, uninterrupted. As we linger on the words of every letter, we allow
ourselves the time to sit in the struggle, wrestle with the meaning behind some of the most
famous Bible stories, and ask the honest questions we have been wanting to ask. We may never
receive an answer, but there is a peace and freedom that comes with the act and art of asking.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, the night we celebrate the coming of our Savior, we
will talk to Matthew and Mark, we will bring our questions to Paul and Peter, we will lament
with Hosea, and we will rejoice with Habakkuk. Through reading Letters of Advent, we will find
unity as fellow believers in confessing our doubts and struggles during hardship, empathize
with ancient Biblical characters as they await God’s plans and promises to be fulfilled, and then
be filled with hope and joy as we remember the prophesies have been fulfilled, the Savior has
come, and we have been given the ultimate gift of grace. And for that we can say joyfully,
“Merry Christmas.”
