Sweet Summer Nights

Rate this book
I friend-zoned Wyatt Hogan years ago…But this Fourth of July brings fireworks!

It’s been a few years since I left my hometown, but somehow Lake Lorelei and my closest friend Wyatt have become even more gorgeous.

He’s a fireman now?! That’s going to come in handy with all the sparks flying between us.

Wait…

It’s Wyatt. There are good reasons we’ve kept love off the table. Life has served up some big decisions, and I have enough on my plate without getting side-tracked by a trusty hunk of a man who I’d let put out my fire anytime he likes - if you know what I mean.

I can’t be the ridiculous girl who falls in love with her best friend….right?

Sweet Summer Nights is a friends-to-lovers romcom with laugh out loud moments, relatable characters and a happily ever after you won’t want to miss. Fall in love with Lake Lorelei and its residents and savor the swoony, sizzling chemistry with this closed door romance!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Sweet Summer Night and wow it was such a fun and cute novella I loved every moments of it!! For such a short book it kept me hooked from beginning to end!!

Had two of my favourite tropes of small town romance and childhood friends to lovers! Definitely one of my new comfort reads when I need a quick cute romance.

Lake Lorelai beckons; a summer of promises her sweet siren song. Where there’s magic caught beneath fireworks, and awkward first kiss attempts run rampant. Where clumsy is adorable, and “hot” potato’s not just a game. Where a certain fireman is catching sparks, and where best friends become lovers.

Sweet Summer Nights by Anne Kemp was an adorable small-town friends to lovers novella, and the perfect Saturday read for my NZ Summer night.

This brief snapshot of Freya and Wyatt’s relationship was loaded with cute moments that had my heart all a flutter - not to mention a few laughs at how awkwardly (and adorably) certain moments played out. I enjoyed the dynamics built into their friendship, and the tiny pockets of history that were woven effortlessly throughout. And the way everything culminated in that final gesture beneath the brightly coloured lights of the Fourth of July? Swoon!

There was a certain charm to each of Kemp’s characters and that small town vibe I love so dearly was captured well.
To anyone with an hour or two to spare, who finds themselves looking for a new read, I recommend inviting Wyatt and Freya to show you their little slice of Summer.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

P.S. I cannot wait to read more of Aunt Maisey’s story, coming May 2022!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a cute, fluffy little romance story. I loved Wyatt and Freya’s friends-to-lovers adventure. I really enjoyed having the two POV’s throughout but I feel that the two characters kind of thought the same? Not that that’s a bad thing! I just know that I was reading a Wyatt chapter and thought I was reading Freya’s POV and then got confused. I think I also would have liked to read a tiny bit more about the in between of their new relationship and the proposal. Otherwise it was such a delightful read 😌 I felt like I could relate to the way Freya thought about things which made it even more entertaining to read about! If you are looking for a very cute quick read though I absolutely recommend as it warmed my heart up for sure!

I was lucky enough to be a Beta reader for this amazing novella by Anne Kemp, that’s coming out next year.
In fact this short novella is a sweet Romcom about Freya and Wyatt, two childhood best friends, who’ve been attracted to one other since they were kinds with braces.
This book is set around the 4th of July, when Freya came bad to her childhood grandma lake house after her loss, and she met again Wyatt (who became a hot fireman ❤️‍🔥🥰🔥) in her aunt coffee shop.
I don’t want to tell everything about this book, you just need to know that it’s super cute and funny. Go preorder this novella.
I’m excited to read the epilogue of this book.

Thank you so much to Anne for sending me this novella🥰

“Sweet Summer Nights” is a friends-to-lovers romance that follows Freya as she returns home to Lake Lorelei and reunites with her childhood best friend Wyatt. Wyatt is now a firefighter and Freya can’t seem to keep her eyes or mind off him. Will they be able to rekindle their friendship and become more? Find out in “Sweet Summer Nights”.

With that being said, what a great little novell! Such a sweet romance and well written!
Set in a cute little lake town, Wyatt and Freya had been the best of friends all their life and when they tried to take their high school feelings to the next level, teenage awkwardness gets in the way putting them back into the friendzone. It's not until Freya returns home for the 4th of July that the fireworks between the old friends start to fly again.

IF you are looking for a quick and sweet read, definitely give this book a read! It will be released 1/18/2022

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book in one sitting while putting my kids in bed. Meaning it was super short or my kids take forever to actually go to bed. I’m gonna go with a combination of both. I loved that is was short. You get the information needed with less fluff. Even without the fluff it draws you in and gives you just enough to want to learn more about the side characters. I also enjoyed the comical side of failed attempts and the awkwardness of both Freya and Wyatt. Great book and super cute!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

This book is a sweet clean romance novella. Freya is wrestling with being moving back to Lake Lorelei, NC and finagling telling her best friend Wyatt that she has feelings for him. This book has humor, sweet summer, cute romance and fun intruding town folk! I enjoyed it and would recommend.

Sweet Summer Nights by Anne Kemp.
This book is about two best friends who has feelings for each other but doesn't want to lose the other one by confessing. Freya and Wyatt were reunited after not seeing each other for a long time. Wyatt has this big crush on Freya since they were still kids and his feelings towards her still hasn't changed. He tried to forget about his crush on her, but it was a bit hard to do so when Freya keeps looking like she's interested in him. Freya, on the other hand, actually ALSO has a crush on her best friend. She was unsure of it at first, but then, she fell head over heels for him. But she keeps questioning if Wyatt also likes her or was it just her? As both tries to deny their feelings, they also can't resist the pull they have on one another. Would they come clean or preserve their friendship still?
***
My Opinion: This book is Awesome! <3
Usually, if I ever started a book that has this trope, especially if they are afraid to ruin the friendship, even though BOTH of them has feelings towards each other- I would feel a bit unenthusiastic, or worse- skip to the end. I don't know why, but this trope just annoy me, every time, I feel like screaming- TELL HER ALREADY!!! / HE LIKES YOU, HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT?!!? And so, to save the poor books from my wrath, I usually go the other way when I encountered this trope. But there's just something about this book that kept me going, even when my head was telling me to shut the book saying- "It's that kind of book, shut the book, you're not gonna like it, I'm too tired to be depressed right now!" And am I glad I didn't listen! Throughout the book I keep waiting for the annoyance to come. But it didn't! I actually find myself enjoying the book. It was fun, flirty and sweet!
~
I love how Wyatt always tries to impress Freya and end up embarrassing himself in a hilarious way so bad, that his embarrassment jumped out of the book and reached me. I love his playful antics and how caring and attentive he was towards Freya. How he could put her first above everything. (Sometimes, male characters like him, makes me want to search on amazon if they sell a man like him! XD)
~
I love how Freya was not annoying with her doubting, like a lot of female character in the best friends to lovers trope. I love how she always think she smells so bad, while Wyatt always think that she smells heavenly, I don't know whose nose needs to get checked XD.
~
I love this book because: there's a lot of scenes that is very relatable, it is sweet and cute, it's easy to read, no miscommunication, fun plot, sugar sweet ending and the extraordinary couple.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say I loved it! A short, sweet summer love story between best friends that has you ‘aw’ing and laughing, although frustrated when they get interrupted every damn time! I loved the characters in this novella, even in the short time of reading I still felt myself becoming attached to them and I was so excited when they finally realised and confessed their feelings for one another! The story has a good, structured and easy to follow layout giving the POV of both characters - although I wish I’d gotten to see more of the in-between of their first kiss and the epilogue!

Overall - I really enjoyed this novella, it followed a good plot, had the right balance of romance and comedy and really hit the mark!
Would I read it again? If I was looking for a quick read to take up an hour or so of my afternoon I would!

Would I Recommend - I would 100% recommend this novella to anyone who is looking for a short but sweet rom-com!

Reader's Notes:
- this is book one of a series but you do not need to read the others in order for this one to be complete
- this is told from both Freya and Wyatt's points of view
- there is some innuendo

Review:
At first I wasn't sure that this story would feel complete with the length of it (I tend to like romances that are 100+ pages long because it is more likely that the story will feel complete- to me at least), but my worries were not needed! This story felt complete with both hopeful romantic moments and the conflict that makes it seem like they might not come back together, as well as an epilogue and a bonus epilogue so we could see what happens for them after!
I really enjoyed Freya's constant clumsiness and the results of it. It led to multiple funny moments! And Wyatt, though sometimes not catching on to what Freya was thinking, tried his best to show Freya that he was interested in her alone. 😍

This story is about two best friends who have liked each other since they were young, but the one time someone tried to show it ended disastrously. It is now many years since that incident and Freya is looking to possibly move back into town. But when she gets there, she is surprised by Wyatt looking way more attractive that she remembered and he’s now a fireman!
Wyatt is so happy to have Freya back in town and when he hears that she might be looking to come back to stay, he is determined to let her know how he feels about her before the week is up.
Will he be able to or will things get in the way and make Freya think again of their disastrous interaction from when they were young?

I had the opportunity to be a beta reader for this book a reread it when the arc came out. I loved this story so much.

Set around July 4th at Lake Lorelei, Freya and Wyatt are such a breath of fresh air. Childhood best friends, friend zoned in their teens, reunite after a couple years when Freya returns to Lake Lorelei. I loved Aunt Maisey and the guys at the fire station were amazing! This book draws you in from the beginning, setting up a picturesque scene and leaves you laughing throughout.

Such a sweet clean friends to lovers, rom com, short novella and I look forward to reading the next story in this series!

This is such a short and super sweet book! Wyatt and Freya (I love their names) are adorable best friends that have loved each other since they were children. Freya comes home after living in NYC to find Wyatt has become a (super hot) fireman. They both want to profess their feelings for each other but keep getting interrupted in the most hilarious ways. The ending was super sweet and I can’t wait to read more books based in Lake Lorelei!

I loved that we got the duel pov and I really enjoyed reading Freya and Wyatt’s story, from thinking one other were only seen as a friend, to them getting their happy ending. This was a cute story with my favorite holiday as the backdrop! Wyatt and Freya had an absolutely adorable love story! And I loved Freya's aunt Maisey who was at the helm encouraging this romance to happen. I was a bit annoyed at some inconsistencies at the end with a surprise announcement, and the fact that Fire Marshal was spelled with 2 Ls instead of one... but I also, just recently learned the correct way to spell it! Ha!

What an adorable friends to lovers book!

This was a funny and delightful read and it really brought to life a charming summer love story. Throw in an attractive fireman trying to catch the eye of his childhood best friend!

“Are you okay?” I wiggle my fingers and toes. “I think so. But I need to know if that looked as cool as I think it did?” “Not at all.” She’s fighting a smile that wants to be exposed, and at my expense, no less. “You looked like a bird that hit a window mid-flight. It was pretty horrific to witness, actually. I should call 911 to help get you out of here?”

Fall in love with the Fourth of July, Lake Lorelei, and pie!

This is a fun and sweet romantic novella from Anne Kemp that kicks off her new series, The Love in Lake Lorelei. This is a friends-to-lovers romance between Freya and Wyatt.

The world Kemp built was a place I'd like to visit. I want to go to the Fourth of July party on the lake. I want to visit the local diner and eat pie. I want to walk the streets of town and meet every one.

I look forward to the next installment of The Love in Lake Lorelei.

Reviewed from a gifted copy. Thank you, Anne!
