'Dereck' by Emily Evans is the fourth book in her Veterans in Alaska series and tells the story of Isabella and Dereck. Isabella and Dereck used to be sweethearts and were engaged to get married but she broke it off with him because she wanted to experience more of life before becoming a wife and mother. As time passed Isabella realizes she misses home and Dereck so she decides to go back to Virgin Falls. Dereck can't believe his eyes when Isabella walks into the bar. She was his everything once until she broke his heart. What is Isabella doing back in Virgin Falls?

Ms. Evans has written a delightful addition to her series. Although this book is short it is well written with wonderful characters, great dialogue, and a compelling plot. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes a quick but satisfying read with their glass of wine.

First things first; I like the cover of this book!
Dereck is the fourth book in the ‘’veterans in Alaska’’ series.
This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Dereck and Isabella were once high school sweethearts about to marry. That changed when Isabella broke Dereck’s heart and left town. Years later and Isabella is back but will Dereck give her a second chance?
The chemistry between Dereck and Isabelle is clear to see and I liked them together.
I liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I look forward to more books from this series.

Isabella just wanted to live he life before having to settle down, but to do this she had to break the love her life's heart. Dereck never found anyone that could fill in the void he felt like Isabella, so when she returned after several years he was not sure of what he felt - pain, anger, or love.

This is a fast pace second chance romance, that will hold your heart not only with the pain of loss but with the understand of why. I love the connection between Isabella and Dereck even after the years, still will cause the page to go up in flames.

This is the fourth book in the Veterans in Alaska series. It's short and steamy second chance romance. Dereck returned to his hometown with some of his Army brothers to take care of a friend’s widow. Derek has watched three of his best friends fall in love since coming home. Dereck lost his chance at love when his best friend and love of his life, Isabelle, decided to walk away from their wedding. Now she's back in town and while the hurt resurfaces for Dereck so do all the other feels too. Is this their second chance at happiness?

Short sweet story of Isabella and Dereck. Isabella had basically left Dereck at the alter and hurt him because she wanted to see more of the world. Dereck moved back to Virginia Falls to be with the vets there. Isabella is ready to move back to Virginia Falls basically because she knows that Dereck is still there. She finally goes to his cabin to talk to him and tells him that she has missed him every day they were apart and that she still loves him. Will Dereck be able to trust Isabella again? Dereck and Isabella were once perfect together and about to get married, but several days before, she told him she was leaving. Years later, she is back in Virgin Falls, Alaska and crossing paths with Dereck everywhere she turns. The characters are strong in their feelings, have good backstories and close friends who support them. The storyline follows their reconnection and the triggers that may bring them back together. Loved the advice the friends give them and the strength it takes for them to accept their second chance. Great ending.

2nd chance

Dereck is a veteran that moved to Virgin Falls along with other vets to help a brothers widow and kids out.
Isabella is the ex who broke up right before they were to get married.
She wanted to live her life before she settled down and had kids.
Now she is back home but can the love they had for each other work in their favor or is the trust from the relationship broken forever.
A very cute quick read which show in the story how important trust and communication is in a relationship.

I love this series each book is better than the last and we can relate to them especially Dereck and Isabella's story. Who wouldn't want the chance to go back and fix past hurts or right any wrongs. Everyone can feel for Dereck too we've all been hurt before and know how it can cause you to develop trust issues and you want to protect yourself from being hurt again. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

A second chance for Dereck and Isabelle.
Although Dereck is careful to embrace her again, he finds that only she is on his mind from the moment she returns to Virgin Falls.

The story is told from 2 perspectives, but I think Dereck's side comes out more than Isabelle's. I loved seeing how vulnerable Dereck is after Isabelle left him because she wanted to see something of the world before marrying him. To me he came across as a cautious man but with a heart of gold.

The author has given us a wonderful story that pulls us into the lives of Isabella and Dereck and does not let go. Years ago, she left him a few days before their wedding. Her explanation at the time made no sense to him and left him brokenhearted. She has now returned to town, hoping that he can forgive her since she still loves him. Will he be able to trust her to stay?

This is a difficult situation for Isabella and Dereck. Isabella had broken their engagement off days before the wedding so that she could see the world before she got serious about marriage and family. Now she has returned to Virgin Falls, Alaska, and finds that Dereck has retired from the military and is also back home. Even with the love still there, can Dereck trust his heart to her again? Second Chance

Derek and Isabella were engaged but circumstances left Derek broken hearted & Isabella left town. She moves back wanting to win back Derek and his love. Most of the story is about her trying to get his attention and him pushing her away. Story was pretty good but I prefer the instalove and not yhe 2nd chance stories where one of the people was dumb enough to walk away from true love.

She realized that she made a mistake and wanted him back if she could. Derek couldn't get over Isabella and decided he didn't want to get involved with anyone till she came back

Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.
