Battlemaster's Gambit

Resurrected to dominate or die again?
Andric was much like anyone else, further along in his life than he wanted to be. Much further along, and waiting to finally become the main character of his own story.
Fate had a funny joke for him, though.
He died.
Unexpectedly he was given the strangest of plot developments. He resurrected in what seemed to be a GACHA game
Being given another chance on another world. One where he could redefine himself, starting with an unknown class of all things.
Andric can only roll with it since there really isn’t any other choice.
It’s time to start again and this time he’ll have to get risky, take chances, and let luck play a part.
Regardless if it’s good or bad.
First up for that new life motto is his class and he’s definitely taking a risk.
Unknowingly, he’s given up on a typical RGP character development in favor of an unconventional class where his powers hinge on the luck of the draw.
Disclaimer: This book contains copious amounts of sex, violence, cursing, and stats. There are strange cultures in a fantasy land that have very murky morals and do not adhere to any kind of human ideal of decency. This book also contains unconventional relationships and questionable moral choices.

Former soldier/nerd dies on Earth and finds himself reincarnated in a world akin to our fantasy RPGs ala “Rising of the Shield Hero” and “Reincarnated As a Slime” He chooses a class that allows him to summon sentient weapons/armor that are also very attractive women. How convenient!

With the popularity of “Ice Planet Barbarians” I decided to take a dip into this…. genre…. and was pleasantly surprised. It’s ridiculous and thankfully retains respect for the women protagonists. The story is fun and I found myself excited every time the main character leveled his home base and his “Summons”. Character development could be better and the plot is thin but I never found myself asking “why is any of this going on?” and honestly enjoyed this strange book.

Grammatical errors abound so keep that in mind if you pick up this novel. Also if you don’t read these kinds of books be prepared for the general embarrassment I felt/feel while reading and writing this review. The book is fun and right up your alley if you like video games, anime and are a bit of a pervert.

Pretty mediocre overall. Too many extended sex scenes for no particular reason and a heavy use of anime-ish tropes for the women are my biggest complaints. Overall concept is workable, but this one didn't rise above a weak "average".

Awesome story

Great book. Interesting characters and a very diverse group that may become the harem of the MC. Looking forward to seeing where this story goes.

Absolutely enjoyed

Imagine one of those epic RPG games like Skyrim or an MMORPG
But the game is real, and so is the dying.

Add in sentient summoned monster girls who become your armory, weapons and accessories.
Add in a pocket dimension upgradeable mansion and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this book.

I couldn't put it down and eagerly purchasing the next!

Loved it!

This hilariously written harem LitRPG was a breath of fresh air from many of the books I've read lately. I remind me quite a bit of another author's work, with being pulled into a game and having their own extra dimensional home instance, but other than that they were pretty much different.
I was a little worried about the gacha mechanic and how it play in everything, but I thought it was handled extremely well. Matter of fact I feel like the entire story was handled extremely well. The writing was smooth, the storytelling was on point, the sexy times were sexy, and the humor always hit in my opinion.
I enjoy how different each of the summons are and how they interact with each other. Rather than being sexy girl a and sexy girl b, they're different and unique characters. While they don't necessarily have in-depth backstories they all have a lot of personality. I love it.
I also truly enjoy that the MC isn't just completely okay with the world after the first two chapters. He openly admits that this is new and that he doesn't understand and the denizens of the world are the ones that accept it. I also enjoyed that he's not unique in that there are other players and people are sort of familiar with the concept of a person showing up and not knowing anything.
The only reason I did not give this five stars is because of the fair number of typos. I can deal with the occasional typo, but when you use the wrong name and the middle of an experience, it's a big hit. One of the main recurring problems that I saw was that alter was used instead of altar.

If all the typos were cleaned up I would absolutely give this five stars. Is it on par with Shakespeare? No. But is it great for what it is? Yes! It was great reading a story that was well written, exciting, had just the right amount of LitRPG statistics, and was absolutely hilarious.

Absolutely looking forward to the next entry.

The story is action-packed. The idea that a Battlemaster gains "spirit women" as weapons, armors, artifacts is new to me. So this main character, Andric Graven, gains a harem-retinue from the weapons, armors, equipment and artifacts that "store warrior spirits". The sex is incredibly graphic, no warning on the cover or the insides of the book about the adult content. I think all of the sexual liaisons could have been left out and this story would have still been really good. There is an info-dump in relations to the upgrades in levels of his harem-women (weapons, armor, equipment, artifacts). There is one in particular where Gill (the Club) is mentioned twice (with the same info). There are several typos that the author does not see (or yet fixes). Off and writes of, queue (for making a line of waiting for a turn) and typos of this kind. At the end, the author misspells isekai, for example. Places the date of writing this book as 2012 and it was actually 2021. So just a basic spell check could have helped wonders to this first book of this series.
I really liked the author's positive attitude towards his story. Even though there is a lot of blood and gore violence and explicit sex scenes, there is little to no betrayals, no revenge, no characters trying to "screw each other over" like it is sometimes typical of the isekai genre (reincarnated in another world), and the idea that the main character is an ex-soldier, makes the whole story get to the point really quickly. There is no "beating around the bush" in this story series. The main character gets everything done quickly and generously.
The only negatives I would mention, are, like I've mentioned, the highly explicit sex scenes, and the other point I would like to mention is that the author is new to the genre, so currently has only two books to his name. Because his books can be read really quickly, well, it leaves a desire to read more...

Regret not reading this sooner

So I got into the haremlit genre a couple months ago and it took me a little bit before I tried reading monster girl stuff. I won't lie the cover art for this book kinda put me off of it. I don't really know why, it just did at the time. But I decided to just say "screw it" and check it out and I'm kicking myself for not having checked it out sooner.

Seriously. This book rules.

The main character is fun, compassionate and competent which is always nice. The system the author's come up with for a battlemaster is really fun and I enjoy hearing the girls banter in the main characters head.

Obviously it's not perfect. There's some grammatical and spelling errors here and there but nothing crazy. There is one moment where I'm pretty sure the author just straight uses the wrong characters name but none of this detracts from my overall enjoyment. The only real thing I guess is that the prologue is a bit of a tease for my tastes. I enjoy haremlit novels where we get the perspectives and occasional POV chapters of the girls and the prologue has that but there's no other chapter like that in the book. By no means a deal breaker but was something I was low-key hoping for and hope maybe gets integrated in the future.

May as well be VRMMORPG.

It's a personal preference of mine but I cannot enjoy any novel that involves people playing virtual games, even if it is the entire world as they know it. Why? It really has to do with verisimilitude (great word), specifically the fact that game systems (and their worlds) don't need to actually make sense.

• There are infinitely respawning creatures that stay within a small section of a map for new players to kill?
• Buildings can be as high or as wide as is arbitrarily decided by the system?
• NPCs work at a store indefinitely with enough sentience to serve customers but not to question their existence?

Yep it's a game, so that's just how it is, don't think about it.

Calendars can be set world wide without cultural significance; cities can remain technologically stagnant and worst of all consequences can be handwaved away through skills, "respawns" or whatever wacky thing the author can think of. The worst thing is that these deficiencies are built into the genre, ripe for abuse.

...Yes, I'm jaded. I've just been burnt too many times by the stupid VRMMORPG community.

Hey Will written story with sexy parts

For me this is above average harem novel. It's a Isekai and a cultivation and harem type story. The world building is well done and the characters are very well fleshed out. Things that are written and done in the story are well thought out in my opinion and they make sense. There is only one or two typos but they are easily overlooked. There is action and the battle scenes are well thought out. The main character is challenged and the things she has to overcome are not easy. I like the story because there is a struggle and the main character is not OP it's actually his weapons and his armor and his accessories that have the surprising element of being sentient. They are the ones that get upgraded and which in turn augment his stats. All in all for me a very good story well written and conjures the visions in my mind of what is happening in the story. I can't wait to read what happens next but just like anything I guess I will have to wait that is, hoping the next book comes out soon.

Really enjoyed this one

So its a harem litrpg. The harem part is pretty much part of the MC class as they are the spirits of his weapons and armor. This is not a bad thing and there is a bit of character drama as well as not all the spirits align with each other as they are reincarnated from living people of the world. The into personal relationships in this book or well done not over the top and very comfortable. Dmc never explained exactly how it came to the world yet but I assume that will be in later books. Not that it really makes much difference at this point. The only major problem is earth humans are not Well like because this world has rpg like System and most That arrived treated like a game and become murder monsters. This is a bit of a problem for the mc but probably more so later. Still I enjoyed the book wasn't happy with the minor cliffhanger at the end but that said look forward to the next one.

This book is really good, one of the best in a while in it's genre. The girls are very in depth. Whenever they reveal something that shows it's not just a mindless NPC, it makes me take a back. Like Gill revealing she's scared of being sent back to the voide as the reason for seducing the MC.

I'm starting to see the dynamic that works and I like here. There's the knowledgeable, well-behaved, and reserved sidekick as Gill. There's the Tsundere, brash-but--lovable-in-time Skryvanna. And there's the innocent, bubbly, lovable, favorite of Gretch. These combo of personalities appear in other HaremLit and I loved those dynamics as well.

I really enjoyed the audiobook voice acting as well. Whenever they put the effort to have 2 gendered VAs I know if will be good. And the voices all had their own charm to them and fits the characters very well. Sometimes the voice changes the meaning or mood of what is written and I loved what is done.

A lengthy bug report

I didn’t like this novel at all I saw the author trying to create a vivid world building with actually chacther growth but I saw to many problems to injoy the story at all for me.

1. The the MC was to judge mental about outer races cultures that he seemed like a prick about it. Then when he starts living like them by starting a harem but looking down on there races style of it made me mad.

2. The class system was had no balance that I don’t see why people if higher LVs where losing so mugh against him.

3. I felt the MC lack a true overreaching goal for future novels that his actions came with the motions for each ch that they where only for pushing the story along.

MC dies and gets a second chance for glory by participating in a rpg game to “entertain the gods” for possible “rewards”. Choosing the class of battlemaster, he is able to equip and level weapons and armor inhabited by monster girls. The summons and MC were all fairly likable characters and the group dynamics were entertaining. No clear direction for story is given as mostly just consisted of MC reacting to random encounters and then completing quests. Overall, I thought this book was fun but maybe MC spent a bit too much time upgrading his personal space and gathering employees. I am curious to see where it goes though.

In a life or death

This story is intriguing and I can’t wait for the second instalment.

I would like to point out two things. The first thing is that there are a couple of grammatical errors throughout the book. There are not enough mistake that would turn off finishing this book.

And the last thing is that, people tend to adapt to their surrounding when constantly confronted to life and events. Our protagonists goes against this notion and that is fine. However, it did dilute the kinship I developed with him.

Fantastic Start

I love it. While this book has the requisite sex scenes of Haremlit, good ones too, my favorite part is how relatable all the characters are. Each of the ladies feels distinct and multidimensional. The supporting cast is likable and offers interesting perspectives. The world is not grimdark but has videogame levels of violence. Overall the book has a great tone and pace. I am planning on going to the author's Patreon for more. Highly recommend. Lost a star for small editing errors and a couple instances of the story contradicting itself.

Fantastic first book

Ive read a lot of slice of life fantasy and this is one of the best, if you like a fantastic story with believable charachters and a great progression system thats not a tacked on addon or overpowering mc then this is the book for you.
Now it does follow a few tropes as being reborn in another world getting a harem but it does it in such a clever way that it doesn't feel hurried and its progressive, i hope the author can start doing this full time as i find this kind of book series rare to find like binding words .

Good start to a series

This started out great, even continued at a very good set pace. I like the characters, the interactions, he'll even the combat. What i find a little odd is the MCs decision to not ask about it even explore the game\star mechanics and how they translate to the current world. He has a general idea and that's it. The second thing that I point out is he asked NOTHING about how precious Earth Humans interacted with the races after getting a brief explantion. He just nods and moved on. Just those two small things, but otherwise a good start.

So standard isekei fare with the MC transported to a new world with game-like mechanics. It's interesting in the fact that humans aren't the only ones who are "players" in the world and everyone is aware of them. While not completely OK with some of the customs of the world, he's working to change things without trying to disrupt the entire world. Really a great start to the series and looking forward to seeing more adventures.

A Fun romp

The good: The girls are just the right mix of quirky and cute to keep them fun & the mc is smart and not over Bering.

The ok: The sex wile fun And well written focused a bit to much on S&m play for my personal tastes other than that.

The bad: The girls come to many to fast it feels like they are just added to tic a box at the rate that they are just added to the house.

Excellent Story

This story was quite a change from the books I normally read, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the book. Main character is funny and the supporting characters are well developed. Would like to know how the main character originally died to get sent where he was, but that's just a minor detail and really doesn't take away from the story. Was very pleased with the book.

A happy surprise

I was unsure if I would like this book, as the blurb did not grab me, but I am very glad I picked it up. MC is not a Chad, and the story and characters are well written. The sexy parts were good. I did not skim through any of them, but at least 1 seemed to be a little long for my taste. Overall, I recommend that you pick up this book, as I am sure you will enjoy reading it.

Great 1st book!

I'm absolutely amazed with how fun this book was to read! And it's the author's first published work? That's amazing!

I love the new take on this theme, having the MC being an everyman/blue collar man, instead of the common trope of a gamer/nerd.

The characters are nicely fleshed out and easy to like or sympathize with. I'm truly looking forward to seeing what this talented new author creates for our enjoyment.

A beautiful utopia

Loved that the 'human' can see all the humanlike behaviors around him and strive to do better - for himself and for others.

The world-building is good. Interesting characters / species / abilities and kinks.

Extra bonus - the writing is good. There is real character development. I'm excited for next book and the changes that occur once Andric bonds with Scryvulla.

Great read

The problem with most of the books like this is that they women don't actually get much personality and just wind up feeling like hollow shells. So far this series doesn't have that issue, it's been fun to go through so far I think my only concern would be how many women the author truly wants to bring into this. I just begin to have an issue keeping track of them all.

Better than expected.

This could use some serious editing, but I actually really liked it. There is a lot of room for the plot and the world the author built to grow in sequels. I recommend the book and will read the next as soon as it is out.
I hope the author keeps writing, so give it a shot and leave a review!

What a blast!

Surprising story with a decidedly different take on the harem gaming genre. MC is great, other characters are interesting and becoming filled in people (regardless of race).

Pretty decent presentation (a few wrong words and punctuation), in all not bad at all for a new author.

Enjoy

Surprisingly good

The characters have backstories and reasons behind everything instead of the usual hand waving this type of book has. I do wish the author would pace himself on how big his entourage gets. I suspect by book 3 there either won’t be new characters or I won’t remember anyone’s name and the plot won’t move forward.

Death and rebirth sorta.

So ex military now a game avatar of sorts. Not a bad afterlife for most, and sexy women spirits as weapons and armor. Ok this is doable as are they. Welcome to Tournion where is seems being dead has a few rewards. Join our hero while he tries to figure out where, who, what, and of course the big one why. A fun ride you will want to enjoy.

Would read again!

This was my first time reading a isekai in novel form. I gotten snared first by reading manga then decided to Branch out. I love reading novels so I thought about giving it a try. I'm so glad I found this author. This story is written very well. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read more.
