Labyrinth entices you with its dark setting, keeping you guessing about what human nature really is. It inculcates human emotions carefully with wonderful imagery and gruesome emotions which bring about the question—‘Do you really know what you feel?’

The poems range from ‘Fear’—a poem aptly named after the emotion it invokes in you—to various poems on love which make a voice ring in your head, ‘Is love a boon or a curse?’

So, go on, open the book and fall in love with a little darkness. After all, isn’t darkness here before the light?

‘Her lyrical expressions and profound thoughts dazzle through the dark clouds, shining like the first morning light; fresh, raw, soothing.’ —

"But alas!
It is me who is cursed not humanity,
Because I am Death,
The Mighty." - Dania Khan, Labyrinth
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Labyrinth by @bookomaniacal is a collection of 48 beautiful, intense, and captivating poems! Each and every poem feels like an unheard prayer that is patiently waiting to be heard, felt, and loved!

While some poems felt like a dagger in the heart with emotions oozing out, others felt like a warm hug!💖💖 I was surprised to know that Dania is only thirteen years old and got her poems published at the age of twelve, which is pretty awesome!☺️

Another key highlight about her beautiful poetry collection is that the foreword for it is written by none other than @ruskinbondofficial himself! How amazing is that?! I have grown up reading and loving his short stories and to get a foreword written by him is definitely a huge honor!🌟

Starting from the beautiful cover, to the amazing foreword by Ruskin Bond, to the delightful, enraging, powerful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking poems, every single bit about this book is so special and spectacular!🌸
I would end my review with this quote by Ruskin Bond, which you can find in this book:-

"Poems are but proses and observations set to rhythm and melody. They are lyrical avatars of words set in a harmonious motion with each crest and trough corresponding with the varied emotions of the poem."- Ruskin Bond

"At that moment I hear the voice again,
A string of words,
The most beautiful that I have ever heard,
The words don't give up."

Don't Give Up, Dania Khan

~~~
The beauty and 'curse' of poetry is that some can't be downed like that sweet wine you. Poetry wants you to slow down so that it's message can sip in, slow down so yu can go high on words, slow down so you can feel the magic, see the art... Labyrinth is such an anthology of poems; I had to take my sweet time to get into the feels in between the lines, see the world is a different perspective as the persona weaved her words and emotions.
Was it a bit scary? Yes, because we sometimes feel darkness is evil, bad and needs to be buried. But in order to cleanse it you must go in deep through the shadows and find the light. Truly a whirlwind of emotions, I got lost but in the end found my way through the poems.
I loved the illustrations and the short prose along with her unique and lyrical way to express herself. Their is truly beauty in darkness.
Read:
"She strolled through the land of emotions,
Cold, like her words.
Fires scorched her like her jealousy.
Searing mists of anger poked her..."
Her words, lines, verses go in deep and dark, raw and wide into the Labyrinth of emotions most of us want to bury or hide.
Like the yin and yang the themes from her poems are a spectrum of pain, loss, guilt, anxiety, depression, suicide, loneliness, death, hope, faith, redemption, love, wishes, desires.
Everything, Don't Give Up , fear, Light and Dark, Looking For Someone to Love, Perfect, Remember, The Song of Life, Wish, Strings...are some of my fave poems Khan has penned.
I can't wait to see what more will spew from her imagination, feels, experiences, observation.
"...I don't think I have darkness inside of me, I feel that sometimes overwhelming feelings become dark, whether it's too much joy or too much sadness, when inside someone for a long time, they find a way into your heart and become a little dark.
I wasn't writing this book for one person, but for every kid in the entire world."
Labyrinth by Dania Khan
Amazing perspective!
The world is full of darkness, yet there is light to sustain it. Death is certain but live is what we crave for. Perhaps a journey through the opposites is life. You have brought out all the emotions beautifully through your poems.
A very promising poet and writer in making@ Dania Khan.
Congratulations and best wishes.
Quote:
“Tears
One tear for a passion left behind
Two tears for heartbreak
Three tears for pain unbearable
Four tears for misery in the world
Five tears for an unspoken witness
Six tears for injury inflicted
Seven tears for a person lost
And a tear left unattended for a heart turned cold.”
Beautiful indeed.👍👍
This book, which comprises 48 intense and beautiful poems, marks the debut of the young author, Dania Khan.
Most of you know, I am not into poetries; but, recently I have been reading a lot of poetries and learning to appreciate them. This book is very hard hitting and made me question my emotional state. The author's words are raw and deep and am amazed to see such understanding of darkness inside people’s soul at such a young age.
All the poems were thought provoking and most of them I read twice. Especially the poem ‘Depression’ was my most favorite. I haven’t read such accurate description of a mind of a depressed person either in a prose or in a poem form. My other favorites were Love, Don’t Give Up, I am death, remember, what are emotions?
I can't point even a single one which I didn't like. Such a well curated collection of poems. Do read this book, if you love poetries. I am sure you wont be disappointed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
“Every man, woman and child has committed a sin. Because without sins we are nothing just bodies”
“This is what they do, they make weapons and say it’s for peace”
“We are products of war, we belong in battle”
The first impression of this book to many seems that it’s a collection of sad poems which talk about the hardships of life and tumultuous emotions. But after a deeper look into the book, the reader realises that it is structured in a way that every time it gets too deep in the maze of emotions that the book is named after it takes a step back to remember the hope and happiness in the world before continuing to navigate the labyrinth.
The poems don’t view the world with rose-coloured glasses or black glasses which change her perspective of people and things around her, rather she approaches emotions with a blank slate and makes the reader feel them through and through. Instead of taking the short route about the labyrinth Dania chooses to face all her fears, challenges, and apprehensions and come out as a stronger person. Reading the poems feel like experiencing life for the first time without all the biases we have in place.
This is simply a great book. The emotions in the poems were just so pure and real that it is hard to believe someone aging between 11 to 15 must have wrote it. Dania did a really good job with the poems.
The world crashed to its knees,
Accepting defeat,
And shrouded itself in a veil of darkness.
It swept its floors of broken bones,
Cleaned its pools of blood,
And cleared up the stained rags of innocents.
It cleaned its scars,
Weeping, counting each life lost into the darkness
And celebrating each life lost into the darkness
And celebrating each life given to the light,
As its tears seeped into the ground.
❝ – #BookReview: Labyrinth by Dania Khan
Okay listen, a poetry book that reads like a fantasy book? A FREAKING YES!
I have started reading poetries for as long as I remember but this one is so so unique. It was refreshing to read something this new.
The poetries were layered in dark fantasy metaphors. As a fantasy book junkie and a poetry lover, this book was a perfect combination for me!
I felt empowered, I felt strong, I felt badass.
A little peek of the book:
✨ dark fantasy elements to touch on anxiety, depression & etc.
✨ many beautiful illustrations to accompany the poetries
✨ The author also published this book at the age of 13. I can't be more proud of her!
Congratulations Dania, for this wonderful baby of yours 😍
My rating: 4.5⭐️
