Take Me. Tempt Me. Tame Me. Cailey Holm is definitely not a cat person, in fact, she's terrified of felines in all forms. Creating a sexy were-lion as the hero of her latest erotic romance was supposed to help her overcome that fear, but suddenly the tall, dangerous, domineering alpha-cat of her darkest dreams is standing in her living room- and then carrying her back to his world, demanding to explore her most erotic fantasies. Set free from Cailey's story, Lander Cornelius, King of the Werekin, now has a mind of his own, not to mention a magnificent, muscular body specially designed to make his mistress ache with desire. At first Lander's only motive is to protect his people by controlling Cailey's magic. But now, he intends to bring them both to the peak of ultimate ecstasy, showing her the intense pleasure of total submission, and unleashing a pure, animal passion that has no limits except their wildest imaginations.

Its been a while since I read a Carl Weber’s book the last being Baby Momma Drama I believe. Therefore, it was time for me to get familiar with him again and I am glad I picked this book to do with. In this, unconventional read work very well. By unconventional I mean the book is written in first person and each chapter is from the viewpoint of one of the three main characters. I love the way the story came together.
There is the father James Black who doesn’t believe in committing to one woman. His straight forwardness of take it or leave works so well for him he has woman whom he has been sleeping with for 30 yrs. As we all know a player must fall in love sometime or end up a very old man see which ones happen to James.
Darnel Black is engage to be married and we meet him right after his bachelor party. Darnel is the total opposite of his father. He is faithful, loving, and respectful to woman. All Darnel wants is to marry his childhood sweetheart Keisha whom is his first and only love. Needless to say he is “Green”. When he learns of an affair between Keisha and his best friend Omar, he becomes enraged and the drama begins. They say there is nothing worst then a woman scorned. Darnel puts any woman to shame the strange thing is he does it in the name of love.
Last but not least there is Jamie Black. Jamie thinks she knows it all and must know all of everyone business, especially her father and her brother. At some points she seems more like James woman then his daughter and also an older sister to Darnel then his baby sister. See what happen when she snoops to far and learns more then she bargain for.
Carl brings some twisted plots and an ending I sure didn’t see coming and most definitely could understand. There is nothing like unconditional love.
This book is by far the best book I have ever read, coming from a person who isn't quite fond of reading. Carl Weber's Up To No Good can be summed up into word: Unexpected. This book keeps you from wanting to put the book down, with the different characters and problems as the plot begins to unravel into something you would never expect. I highly recommend reading this book if you are into drama, because this book takes drama to the next level. Normally when reading a drama book, you get boyfriend stealing, fighting, and other various teenage actions which ends up being typical. When reading this book, there are various hints that lead you to think one thing, but when you keep going... becomes another twist that makes the book even better. The way the book is formatted is by giving you three MAIN characters-James, Jamie, and Darnel. Each chapter, you are being placed into the mind of one of these three characters, each having different problems and different points of view, making the book very realistic to an extent. At first I was annoyed trying to get used to the rapid chapter switching, but it ends up making the book more interesting. The themes of this book, I would say are lust, love, trust, and secrecy. The author, Carol Weber's, goal was to keep you reading and get you to embody the characters (and there individual points of view) more intimately, which he ended up achieving. The plot is the idea of James Black, the father of Jamie and Darnel, is a very promiscuous man who sleeps around and his children, both adults, know what he is up to. The father plays a big role in both Jamie and Darnel's life and has a big impression on their trust with other people. Jamie is very protective of her father and sometimes pushes too much into his personal life especially when James starts being more distant with her and she doesn't understand why. She, also, is trying to deal with her own love problems with a man named Louis who she starts to pry a little too far, finding things she shouldn't have. "Curiousity killed the cat" may be extreme, but explains the point. Darnel is a good guy who loves a girl named Keisha who on his wedding night, finds out a lot more than he can handle. Dealing with these problems, they find themselves in things way over their head, and getting out of it all... might be tougher than they think.... "Oh dear God, what the fuck did I just do?" "I wanted to die, too, to have this be over". This epic tail of a close family, is one that leaves an impression on both your mind and the way you think about things. It might even change the way you look at love or family. This book is definitely a must read. Why only four stars? Although I loved this book, I must say that at some points could have been redone, but I think that Weber did a very good job writing a book that people can get into easily. You'll just have to read it yourself to see what I am talking about.
Most of the time I would give details on physical aspects of a book, but I read this book off my ereader. Nook format, the pages flowed nicely, no weird coding or improper formatting. This book is part of the James Black series. The book starts off with drama and ends in drama, and I like drama!
I must take my hat off to Mr. Weber. He dared to take his characters in a direction which I would have bet my last dollar that he wouldn't. Damn I would have lost! -Speaking of, which, the characters development was excellent. Sub-plots was excellent and moved the storyline very well. There was some foreseen situations (predictability) you can see coming but the writer managed to keep me glued to the pages through his style of writing and delivery of the situation.
The book ended leaving me with a lot of questions like, 'damn, what's next!' -Up to No Good, show people in their true light. The book covers situations and topics such as; Stoking, Alcohol abuse, betrayal, greed, cancer, and whoring. The book has a mature theme, yet I believe a 15/16 year old will be able to comprehend the story. The sex is safe, and the cursing is at an minimum.
All in all it was a very good read. Thank you Mr. Weber for a job well done.
Wow this book was crazy. It is definitely a page turner from the very beginning. Up to No Good has some VERY unexpected twists and turns. . . It slightly reminds me of something the wonderful author Allison Hobbs would write. Anyway, this novel is awesome. It is a quick read (probably because the font is so big) and is packed with drama drama drama.
James Black is a 48 year old successful business owner, father to Jamie and Darnel, and honest womanizer who has never been a committed relationship. That is until he meets his daughter's young friend Sandra and unexpectedly falls in love with her. Jamie Black his 25 year old daughter works for him and is a totally Daddy's Girl. She hates every woman he pays attention to but has to back up from meddling in his sex life when she becomes suspicious of her live in boy friend Louis cheating. Darnel, James' other child walks in on his finance' and best friend having sex the night before their wedding. He is very distraught and acts even more crazily throughout the rest of the book once he finds out more and more secrets about his ex fiance Keisha. One would never guess the events that take place and what happens to all of these characters. I would definitely recommend this book! Go Carl Weber!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and hated to see the story come to an end. This is a twisting story of love, lust, deceit, hurt, shame, growth, lessons learned....all of it. lol
Honestly, I am not sure if I like this book, or if I think it was okay. It think there was too much going on, I could barely keep up with the story. However, there were some aspect which I like: for example, like sacrifices made out of love and the reality behind the stories, especially Darnell's

Oddly, while I could not stand Jamie at the beginning, I liked how her story ended. She was nosy, but had Louis been upfront with her (at least after he told her he loved her), Jamie could have had the chance of making a choice instead of being forced to marry him. But as her father said, she is a strong woman, and Louis better walk straight, Witness Protection Program or not :o) Unfortunately, I believe that Darnell's story is too real a one. And this is perhaps what I like most about the book, it had me thinking about how people react to betrayal, how they are able (or not) to move on... , All in all, there was a lot of drama, but it was an intense read and while I enjoyed other books of Carl Weber more, I had fun reading this one!
I had been trying to finish this book in my car for the longest time that when it really started getting good, I had to place my name on the reserve list for the actual book. If you crave drama and really want to go out of your comfort zone, this is the book to indulge in. James Black, his daughter Jaime, and his son Darnell will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as you try to comprehend what exactly is going on in their minds. It has the "oh no she didn't" feel to it that makes it a book that you won't be able to put down or if you are a book on CD listener, you will be driving around the block a couple of time with your husband calling your phone and asking where you are (sorry baby). Please read this book so that I will know that I'm not crazy and that Carl Weber is truly the king of the Drama novel.
Just an FYI... The description listed with the book does not apply to this book. Not sure what that is describing!!! Those are not the characters in Up To No Good.
Spoiler Alert: Finally got through this story. Wasn't my favorite. I didn't find any of the characters sympathetic except for Louis and, of course, James at the end. I actually didn't even start enjoying the story until Darnell started going crazy. He was pretty funny. I loved the way he slowly unraveled.
I cringed every time a chapter started with Jamie. Hated everything about her. Crazy through and through.
So, the story got better toward the end, but overall it was a little juvenile for my tastes.
This was my first read of Carl Weber, so I didn't know what to expect. However, I can say if you want to read some drama, please read this book. Darnel was truly in love with Keisha more obsessed I believe. I didn't really care for Jamie she was in her father's business a little to much for me, but when you are a spoiled brat (Daddy's Girl) I guess that is what you get. I couldn't believe how bad Keisha deceived Darnel for so many years poor thang he was really a fool.
I was somewhat disappointed with the way this one ended, but I still liked the book overall. There were plenty of plot twists that helped keep my interest. Some of the story was quite predictable, which I didn't like, while some of it was a total shock. While I enjoyed it, it's not one that I would put on my list of books to read again.
This was an ok read for me. I felt the end was very rushed and it didn't even get Jamie's POV in the end. So much happened in the end that were just totally unrealistic. I give 3 stars because of the build up throughout the book and the abrupt and rushed ending.
This novel is a bit whiny at times, a bit psycho at times, a bit syrupy at times and far too tragic of an ending. The result is a terrible and ridiculous finish. 6 of 10 stars
Carl Weber aka the King of Drama didn’t disappoint in this novel as he weaves a story of lust, lies, and love. This book is written from three perspectives: James (a successful businessman and a womanizing father who can’t commit to anyone), Darnel (his crazy in love son), and Jamie (his spoiled daughter who has severe trust issues in her relationship).
The story unfolds when Darnel find outs that Keisha, the love of his life has cheated on him with his best friend the day before their wedding. With the wedding being cancelled and dealing with betrayal, Darnel starts drinking heavily and spiraling out of control as he concocts various ways to disparage Keisha.
In the midst of it all, James tries to support his son allowing him to stay at his house until his womanizing ways get in the way. Jamie wants her brother to get over Keisha and tries to set him up with her friend Sandra but Sandra ends up falling for James. Quite a complicated web that continues to trap everyone up until the very end.
Overall, this book delivers on the drama although there were times when I thought it was a bit over the top. Anyway, it shows how love can make you do very crazy things to the point of no return and how trust issues can create more damage even before finding out the truth. Nevertheless, I loved how James did the right thing by recognizing Sandra was nothing more than a gold-digger and kicks her out of his life. And ultimately, he realizes all that matters is family.
Solid writing, realistic dialogue, and lots of twists and turns that make this a good page turner!
Some of my favorite lines:
The funny thing was, the truth got me much further than the lies I’d heard some men tell. Sure, some women walked away once they figured out I wasn’t going to get on the husband track, but many others seemed to welcome the challenge. This waitress was in that group. “Oh, and why don’t I want to go there?” She hadn’t moved to get my sugar. “Maybe it’s the other way around and you don’t want to go there with me.” “Is that right?” I flirted back. If a woman didn’t turn and run once I set out my rules, then I figured it was game on.
This was a DAMN good book! I usually don’t read what African American authors write but the title and brief summary caught my attention so I had to get my hands on this book! The main characters are James Black, Jamie Black, and Darnell Black. What I liked about the book was that each character you read about told their story in their point of view, some authors don’t do that and that’s what I liked! The problem though was that the daughter Jamie was selfish and childish to me! I literally rolled my eyes when her story came up for reading. Basically, she irritated me, always getting in her father’s (James) and bother’s (Darnell) love life and acting like a brat! It’s almost like she wanted to marry her father herself if she could. Other than that, I couldn’t put this book down at all! It was like reading juicy gossip about someone’s personal life and you just want more and more of it! The book had some laugh out loud moments to it that made me laugh a lot especially with Darnell because my boy was beyond hurt but he was losing touch with reality because of what his ex-fiancé Keisha did. And finally Mr. James Black, the “no one woman” man, found love but his past finally caught up with him and he suffered greatly for it. But all in all, I loved this book and I’m looking forward to reading more books from Carl Weber!
This book truly took me by surprise. I did not expect that ending! The whole last 2 chapters I couldn't keep my mouth shut.
The black family had their problems but they always had each other. James Black, father of the family, is a forever playboy, or so he thinks. Until he meets a woman he can't seem to resist, who just so happens to be his daughters friend. Jamie Black is daddy's little girl personified and she likes to think she has control over the men in her life but can't seem to figure out what her man is hiding. Darnell Black is a young man who wears his heart on his sleeve and is tired of the people closest to him playing with it. The quietest people are the ones to look out for.
This book was good beginning to end! I am sad to see this series end, especially the way it did. I didn't care for James in the other books but I didn't think he would go out the way he did. If your looking for an HEA just know... this ain't it.
If I can sum up this book in one word, wild would be it! In this fourth installment of thes "Church" series,we really see the consequences of unchecked anger and how choices affect the people around us. James Black is a church trustee who usually has a way with words and women. Things start looking different when he meets a woman and starts to fall in love with her. Is she right for him,or is she hiding something? His daughter seems to think so. Jamie has been dating a guy named Louis for a while, and is trying to work through trust issues, but is he hiding something too? Meanwhile, Darnell is distraught over his wife cheating on him,can he cope with it? Read it and find out! TW graphic sex, extreme violence
It started out talking about James Black and him and all his woman he was messing around with. Then it started talking about his son Darnel who was going to get married, but was betrayed by his best friend Omar. After this the remainder of the book talk about Darnel and Keisha till the end, except for his father James, and his young girl friend Sandra. James found out that he had lung cancer, and Jamie his daughter, told her father James that Sandra was only interested in his money. When her father found out the truth Sandra was on her way out and his daughter told him she told him so. It was an okay book.
Sooo juicy to read. Couldn’t stop once I picked up. Carl Weber knows how to captivate a reader with messy characters and complex family bonds. His characters will have you laughing, yelling and shaking your head at their bad decisions. This is a story about Jamie and Darnell, children of a father who was known as a philanderer without any commitment to either of their mothers. He still managed to be in their lives although they ended up being somewhat dysfunctional. I enjoyed reading every moment of it. Lord, I’m hooked to this series. Off to read the next book 📕
So all that build up, Sandra was painted as a really sweet girl enough to date Darnell but turns gold digger, there were no indicators this was in her character, even the whole bag incident still didn’t justify imo. The unhealthy relationship between James and his daughter is never addressed the way it should’ve been, especially her blatant jealousy of the women he dated. Everything about Jamie as a character was annoying. Darnell and his obsession allowing him to get away with murder. It all doesn’t make sense to me. It’s like all these plots with anticlimactic endings.

A definite keep you on the edge of your seat type of book. James Black is a hottt mess but he is he is. James' daughter Jaime a true spoiled princess by none other than her daddy and she thinks nobody will ever be good enough for her daddy. Definition of a true daddy's girl. DarnellJames son, one minute you feel bad for him then you are like what in the world...love and pain can and will make you do some crazy ish.
Carl Weber books are my guilty pleasure. This one has characters acting out of issues related to abandonment, challenges around intimacy, trust and secrets. Jealousy becomes an obsessive motivation leading to tragic consequences, and it seems people are not always who they appear to be! I didn't love this book as much as some of his others, but it was entertaining.
Whew lord the kids got on my NERVES!!!!! The daughter Jamie and her spoiled ness was ugh .. the son Darnel although what happened to him was very traumatic well I guess I can empathize with him but Jamie it’s a no for me. I enjoy other books by Carl but this one wasn’t it for me
In my opinion the worst of the series by far. I could not take Darnell. I tried to complete it but just couldn't. Also, I knew a little of the deacon from previous books but wow. His exploits would make Ice Berg Slim say "Yo slow down bro"
