Carpino #2

Beautiful Life

Rate this book
Webster’s defines to heal as “to make healthy, whole or sound; restore to health, free from ailment.” But Webster’s also defines to heal as “to free from evil; cleanse; purify: to heal the soul.”

My soul is shattered.

I’m one hell of a mess because I need both and I don’t know how both can possibly happen. Sure, I know my body will heal. I understand the science of healing—it’s my profession. But the ache in my heart and fear in my head? I’m not sure I’ll ever get over that. Losing your unborn child at the hands of your abusive husband will do that to you. I’ve been trained to fear those who are supposed to love—conditioned to watch my every move and word so as not to suffer the consequences. For me, healing might never be a possibility.

Or I didn’t think so until Tony Carpino fixated himself in my life.

Tony is patient. Determined. He knows exactly what I need even before I do. He wants to give me everything, make my life beautiful when it’s always been ugly. But as determined and patient as he might be, I don’t know if I can ever be whole again. It doesn’t matter how long I’ve wanted him … and I’ve wanted Tony Carpino for a long time.

This is a story of heartache and broken souls. A story of being exactly what the one you love needs when they need it, even if it goes against every being of your nature.

Because love isn’t love unless it’s selfless.

Hard to take to start (her ex is a git), but once it moved on, it was just heart-warmingly beautiful.

It was a story of recovery and a second chance at what should have been.

I think I read the vast majority of this with just a lovely warm feeling in my heat over how Tony was. He was a truly great hero and perfect for Leigh.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and enjoyed this one as much. And the characters were not carbon copies, this author can write different couples with different strengths and personalities.

A highly recommended 4 stars.

2nd read review: I did a re-read by audiobook. The narrators were wonderful. They easily pulled me into the story and I highly recommend the audiobook version. I enjoyed revisiting the Carpiono's!

1st read review: I'm loving this series. It's pretty perfect for my Dominant Alpha preferences. Brynne Asher did a beautiful job of writing a dominant alpha in Tony that was still sensitive, sweet and protective over Leigh who is a victim of domestic violence.

Despite Leigh's past with her ex-husband, this is a pretty low angst book. The drama wasn't too much, just enough to bring some excitement to the story. Also, we got more of my favorite man, Jude and Gabby.

The beginning of this book overlapped just a little with the ending of Overflow. You just get the overlap in Leigh and Tony's pov instead of Jude and Gabby's. This allows you to read this book as a standalone if you wish. I highly recommend reading both.

the H made the story for me. but then the h unmade it cause she was ... all too agreeable for my liking. idk i just didnt vibe with her ... energy (?!), which might seem a little cruel to admit considering what she’d been through and she was a survivor. oh well, what do i do? shes not my kind of heroine. furthermore, i found the book rather boring. even with the sprinkles of drama from the h’s ex and her family, it was still drab.

Leigh has finally gotten out from under her husbands controlling thumb and after a tragic incident has the courage to divorce him. Tony Carpino takes over her divorce and makes it his mission to help Leigh move on and start living life again. Even when Leigh tries to push him away, Tony isn't going to give up and plans to make Leigh his.

Tony Carpino can make me his, any day! He was so possessive and caring and the epitome of a sweet Alpha. I loved how he didn't let Leigh push him away and stayed to help her fight her battles. She had to take time to recover from her past with her husband and he understood that. His methods of breaking down her resilience were so cute and I'm really mad that he's not a real person.

A lot of the book focused on Leigh's recovery and Tony helping her, which was great, but I did want a little more of Tony's story. Some of the romance felt rushed and like Tony was pushing Leigh to heal faster. Bottom line, this was a great story and I will definitely be waiting for more from Brynne Asher.

The Carpinos are crazy fun family : Ms. Asher’s managed to set up a full little ‘verse with the very large and loving Carpino family. I’d read the first book in the series, Overflow, a while ago, but it was very easy to jump back into the mix. The family relationships and get togethers were comfortable and funny. Paige is the next Carpino up to bat, and she features alot more in this book, making me want to read more about her.

It’s a standalone, but… : While I think you could read this book on its own, it would be helpful to read the earlier book just to get the feel of the whole family and the events of the first overlap a bit with this one, so it will spoil several plot points for the first book. For a second writing effort, I think it shows continued growth and potential, and it didn’t feel like a carbon copy of the first book.

Leigh’s been through alot : Between her childhood surrounded by her skanky mother and junkie sister, she didn’t have alot of love in her life. Her BFF Gabby and her family brought her into the fold, but it’s never the same when you have nothing but negative from your blood family. Then her horrendous relationship with her ex Preston (which, ew) made her feel about two inches tall. Her self esteem is shyte and that’s not necessarily easy to read, though it is in keeping with what she’s suffered. She has What I would have liked to have seen is Leigh have some time to build herself up, and not rush into a relationship with Tony, because she needed to love herself before she could love someone else. Though with Tony, I couldn’t blame her for falling into a relationship with him.

Tony’s a pretty great alpha hero : Tony’s just what the doctor ordered for Leigh after her scummy ex beats the stuffing out of her. He’s as ideal as possible. Even his pushiness is perfect, because he never ignores her needs and makes sure to take her feelings into consideration at every turn. Honestly, he may be too ideal, but again considering everything Leigh suffered at the hands of pretty much every person that was supposed to love her except her friends, yeah he’s just what she needed.

The way he brought Leigh out of her shell was so sweet, from taking her to the mall to people watch, the fun of their car shopping adventures to adopting a Golden-doodle named Finland, he makes all the right moves. There’s not a moment of eye-roaming or tension with another woman, so this is a completely safe read. Which...

Needed more external tension : Overall, the weakest point of the story is that there is no real tension from anything except Leigh and her self-esteem. The external obstacles such as her family, her ex or the situation involving Tony’s client, weren’t integrated as well as they could have been to really give some urgency to the plot.

I guess it’s the difference between a decent dessert and a gastronomic delight - it’s the ones with a little more bitter that really make that sweetness pop. The obstacles weren’t incorporated as thoroughly as they could have been, more like sprinkled on top. The leadup to the big climax was integrated better than in the first book, but still felt obviously inserted just for a dramatic moment. It was easy to put down, and a little bit more of a struggle would have been welcome to give a little more weight to their HEA.

I liked seeing the Carpinos again, even if I would have loved some more tension in the story. However, if you want a fairly low angsty read with a good alpha, damaged heroine and a loving, boisterous family, this fits the bill. I’m looking forward to the third book, Athica Lane and more time with the Carpinos.

Beautiful love story!

What a great follow-up to the first book! We get the story of Gabby's best friend, Leigh, and her favorite cousin, Tony. We get a little glimpse of their story at the end of Gabby and Jude's book, but we didn't even know they were together! It was just hinted at that they were friends. This book starts off with a tragic prologue, which you already know what happens at the end of the first book. Then it continues on and fills in more details of that ending.

Leigh had a crush on Tony throughout high school, but ended up married to someone else while he was away at college and then law school. Tony, in turn, was waiting to pursue Leigh until after law school and missed his chance. He is not going to miss his shot to be with her now. I love that Tony has always held steady with Leigh throughout this entire book. Never once was there an ounce of angst that drove them apart like methods used in other books to keep the reader's attention. They stuck together despite Leigh's fears. I think it is harder to write books like this where the drama needs to come from outside influences instead of within the couple's relationship. So there is no cheating, no leaving, no major misunderstandings. Bravo!!!

I think this book could be read as a standalone as the author does a great job of explaining all the players including Gabby and Jude the MCs in the first book. But I highly do recommend reading the first book if you haven't do so because I think it will just enhance your enjoyment of this book.

As I'm done with my review I am going to head over to Amazon and borrow (from Kindle Unlimited, yay!) the next book featuring Tony's youngest sister, Paige, and their older sister's next door neighbor, Cam. He got two kids and an evil ex-wife. I can't wait for my next helping of the Carpino family!!!

P.S. The only downside is some editing errors that were slightly annoying, but not enough for me to reduce my rating to 4 stars.

You had me at Tony.
So what can I say, I loved this book. It was a very low angst, beautiful love story. Leigh was so devastated over the trauma of her marriage and loss of her baby, and Tony, calm, cool, sexy, alpha Tony, swoops in and shows her with actions and words a beautiful life.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, Athica Lane, love Paige.

I’ll start off by saying that I really enjoyed Ms Asher’s first book Overflow and was excited to have the opportunity to read an ARC of Beautiful Life.

This book was born from an ugly start. Our heroine Leigh, is recovering from a disastrous marriage where she is abused physically and mentally and she must also come to terms with the loss of her baby due to the abuse. Luckily Leigh has a great support network in her best friend Gabby and Gabby’s family, the Carpino’s. Tony is one of the Carpino’s and also the lawyer representing her in her divorce settlement.

Tony has known Leigh since they were kids. When Tony was older he went off to study law so he could join the family’s practice. He hoped that Leigh would be waiting for him so they could start a relationship. He forgot to mention this to Leigh and she unfortunately meets her douchebag husband. While representing Leigh, Tony realises this is his opportunity to get closer to her.

Tony and Leigh are a very, very sweet couple and I mean suck on a lollipop dipped in honey sweet. There was very mild conflict and not a lot of angst thrown into the storyline. Unfortunately this made it slow in parts. The little angst there was, was so singularly handled by Tony that we, as the reader, didn’t get any details because it was like we were sheltered from it. I felt that the author was protecting us like Tony was trying to protect Leigh.

This book is mainly about Leigh’s recovery and how the people who love her help to make her life beautiful. Maybe I would have like to see Tony kick the douche’s balls in or see Leigh chuck a huge wobbly and throw a rock through a window in her old house. I just didn’t get any other feelings besides extreme sadness or happiness.

I did like this book and the steamy parts were great. Maybe Ms Asher should think about getting an editor as there were still a few spelling and grammar mistakes. I will definitely keep reading her work and acknowledge that considering this is her second book she’s done remarkably well. Looking forward to reading Paige’s book.

4 “Beautiful Gem” Stars!!

After reading Overflow I was really looking forward to Tony and Leigh's story. Leigh is one of Gabby’s best friends and have been best friends since third grade. Leigh is beautiful but she’s broken. Leigh has suffered years of horrific abuse from her husband until one day he goes too far and she’s hospitalized. Gabby comes to her rescue and pretty much forces her to move in with her and Jude when she’s released from the hospital.

 photo PicsArt_1511940575331_zpsv5ah5rbs.jpg

Tony Carpino, Gabby’s cousin has been waiting in the wings for her and will do whatever it takes to make her his. This book is about Leigh's healing, learning to trust, and getting back to the confidant woman she once was. I LOVED how patient, supportive, and loving Tony is. He’s determined. He’s in love. He want’s Leigh to be his forever. We get some suspense when it looks like someone is out to hurt Tony and using Leigh as a pawn to get to Tony.

All-in-all a great read with a great storyline, great H&h, a cute puppy, and a big loving Italian family.

Overall a nice light read and in my case, a good re-read, the tone of this book is different to the first in the series, but that's not a bad thing. Here the focus is more on Tony and Leigh and their relationship. Both characters are likeable and the chemistry clear.

Despite Leigh's past with her ass of an ex-husband, this book is overall low angst. I do wish the author had injected some more intensity into the story, but it makes for a cosy light read.

Whilst there is some crossover with the first book, you can get away with reading this as a standalone.

Overall Opinion: This was cute. I think I did the bad thing of getting my expectations really high, because I didn't love it as much as my GR friends. I never fully connected to Leigh, so I think that was a big part of why because she was the primary POV. I also found myself skimming some -- especially those parts where it was overly descriptive on something like the decor of the house, or parts about some side characters that really didn't relate to the h and H's story. Overall, it was enjoyable and the H made the story for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Leigh and Tony's story. Leigh is getting divorced and her best friend's cousin, Tony, is assigned the case. He decides that he will not let the opportunity of being with Leigh pass him again, and pursues her. After some pushing and pulling, they start a relationship and fall in love. There are some sweet moments, some sexy times, and some work and family drama...but they get their HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Leigh (mainly) and Tony's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. I skimmed some.

Instalove: No, they've known each other since they were kids.

H rating: 5 stars. Tony. He was pretty perfect. Patient, sweet, hot and just enough alpha when needed. Loved him!

h rating: 3 stars. Leigh. She was ok. I got frustrated with her pushing the H away at times.

Sadness level: Low. Even though it covers some heavy subjects, I never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. Good chemistry, tension, and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes and no. They use condoms until they decide to try for a baby. No mention of past practices (that I remember).

OW/OM drama: Mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had good closure with a cute epilogue and a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: Safe with exception

My thoughts: I love to read stories about women's journey of self discovery, learning to live after tragedy and abuse. The h blossomed with the help of her H. He is amazing, he is strong, resilient, steadfast and pretty much everything that you can ask for in a life partner. Not to say he was perfect because the author did a great job of showing that he was not. However, He was perfect for her.

What a wonderful book! I truly enjoyed it. It was such a nice change of pace to read something where the Hero was not a manwhore and was truly an awesome guy. Leigh got on my nerves a wee bit. That's why I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5. I was really tired of her making excuses not to move in with Tony etc. etc. etc. I realize she has basically spent 4 years in hell. I get it, I really do, but honey, it's time to move on.

Tony on the other hand, he was the perfect Hero. He absolutely adored Leigh and gave her everything she needed and wanted. He kept pushing her but not in an obnoxious way. I wanted him so badly to get what he deserved, a HEA. He was awesome!

This series just gets better and better. Brynne has totally sucked me into the lives of the Carpino family. Their engaging, funny loud and crazy but most of all they understand the importance of family and protecting the ones you hold dear.

Tony Carpino always had a thing for Leigh, she was best friends with his cousin Gabby so he always saw her around. Though only a year behind him he knew wasn't ready for anything serious so he never went there. Going away to college he comes back to find he left it too late. Leigh is with someone else. It's a bitter pill to swallow and one he has regretted since.

Leigh's homelife was dismal, her mother, if thats what you could call her was either high or drunk and always had a never ending stream of boyfriend. If it wasn't for Gabrielle Carpino and her family Leigh would never have experienced up close what it was like to be loved and treasured.

She thought she had found it with her husband Preston, but blinded by young love she did not see the monster he hid behind. For four years she endured an abusive marriage, he cut her off from everyone, made her quite her job as a nurse and then made her life a living hell. The final straw was that fateful night he took the one thing she had dreamed of forever.

The Carpino's close ranks and bring Leigh back together, Tony in particular knows this is his chance and it's one he's going to fight for. His goal to get Leigh back to what she was will have you weepy at his words. This man's persistence is never wavering. His love for her? He shows in every word and caress. I hope your'e ready for Tony and Leigh.

I enjoyed this one. It's the second in this series but it could be read as a standalone. This time it's Tony Carpino' s story. He's he lawyer cousin of Gabby from the first book. He's alpha and protective and gentle and patient with Leigh who is in the process of divorcing from her controlling and abusive ex.

Like the first book in this series, he moves himself into her life and her bed at lightning speed, but with a mind to her traumatic recent past, the ugly bumping happens much later. That made for some fabulous sexual tension, but because he was all sweet and protective and gentle with her, I got the full on belly tingles from this one too. I'm also very pleased to report that the smut was notched up a peg or ten in this, much better payoff for all of that build-up.

There's some drama and suspense thrown in too, but much lighter than the first book, really this one is just about them and their love story. The characters and the writing style still reminds me of a good KA, but this one felt much more like its own story. My only slight criticism is that the momentum did slow down quite a bit in the last third of the book and I'm not convinced the intrigue was sufficient to maintain the pace, but it made for an easy, gentle read anyways. I wasn't bored but I was able to put it down for a bit.

I'm really enjoying this and the third book is also on KU so I'm going in.

2.5 stars. This series is just not for me. The heroes are too pushy, too alpha, too quick to ignore the heroine “for her own good”. I like an alpha hero, but not when they railroad the heroines to this extent. Plus, this heroine was pretty broken because of her abusive ex husband. The hero helped her get away from her ex’s control and abuse, only to immediately start to control her in other ways. His idea of allowing her to have a voice is choosing what she wants to eat. Meanwhile, he forces or pressures her into all the major decisions.

Also, a major ick for me in this book was that the hero said that he was interested in the heroine since high school. But he doesn’t make a move because he’s not ready. Instead, he keeps other guys from dating her and his cousin (heroine from book 1) while he dates other girls. THIS type of behavior from a hero is maybe one of my most hated, it shows just how much of a double standard the author has with her MCs. She’s not allowed to date or fuck around because she’s female. GROSS. To make matters worse, when the hero comes back home after law school and is finally “ready” to be with the heroine, she’s married to an abusive asshole. She’s also never had good sex or a good relationship in her life. So obviously, he becomes a manwhore and sleeps with countless women, while she’s living in hell. But it’s all ok - because he never brings them home.

No seriously, wtf Brynne Asher, I thought you were better than this. The writing is good and the storyline was decent… would have been great if she didn’t include so many double standards.

SWE; no virgins, heroine had been with men before she got married but never had good sex, her relationship with her ex husband was extremely abusive and their sex life described was essentially rape. Hero was a MAJOR manwhore (not sure when he found the time being a busy lawyer and all, but men in books always do). They knew each other since they were both young, both liked each other in high school, but since hero wasn’t “ready” he never made a move. Both had other partners over the years. No cheating once they get together, no OW drama, mild OM drama from heroine’s ex, no scenes with OM/OW.

CW: domestic abuse (abusive ex-husband), miscarriage, PTSD, stalking

On page 1 of the prologue we learn that Leigh is pregnant, being abused by her husband, and lost the baby she was carrying. So, this book starts out HEAVY.

Tony is Leigh’s best friend Gabby’s cousin. He’s a year older than them, they were always friends growing up, and she had a big crush on him throughout high school. Then he liked her but he missed her shot because she was already with her husband… now that they’re getting divorced and Tony’s representing her, he won’t let her go.

Like, he literally won’t let her go.

Tony is sweet. We can tell that his intentions are good. He wants to keep her safe, to bring her back to her “old self”, to help her get past her bad experiences with her ex. But - he is very controlling. And while his actions are red flags in real life but cute in books, I couldn’t help but think that what Leigh needed wasn’t someone who would be so controlling after her bad marriage. Sure Tony asks her repeatedly to speak up for what she wants, but he also strong arms her into sleeping (just sleeping) with him… wants her to move in ASAP and when she doesn’t, he gets a dog so he knows she’ll want to be at his place 24/7… wants to get her pregnant and marry her.

Like we as the reader know Tony is the hero but I can’t help but think, if I was Leigh - wouldn’t I be freaked out at jumping into a relationship like that?

Anyway, the pacing of this book also felt weird to me. A lot happens in the first 50% and then the second half of the book is more external conflict. Not my favorite from her.

OMGEEE. Tony was perfection!! He was so damn patient and amazing with the heroine! He knows what he wants and weasels his way into her life and I loved every second of it!! I love how after noticing how she didn't have any nightmares cuddling with him he refuses to let her sleep alone again. I never once had to worry about him straying because that is so not him.

I cannot believe I waited this long to actually read this book. I think the "Carpino" title scared me into thinking this was some mob type story but it was a beautiful story of a broken women and man who loves her beyond everything and will do anything for her.

As much as it pains me because I absolutely love H's like Tony, I cannot give it 5 stars. It's just some of my personal pet peeves like hearing about Tony and all the women in his past. It's definitely not in our face but more than one mention is too many for me. Maybe because I just read a virgin hero book before this so they annoyed me more than usual.

Second, Leigh wasn't my absolute favorite heroine. She was just alright. But holy crap did all her "honey" endearments bug me, lol.

Overall, despite my small reservations this book was great! Tony was worth it all! I highly recommend this! :D

Leigh has finally gotten away from her abusive husband and is eager to have her divorce final. Enter longtime friend Tony Carpino who ends up throwing the divorce for a loop, he wants her ex to pay. Leigh just wants to have a clean break, Tony though has only her best interests at heart, he has loved her for a longtime.

Tony knows that Leigh is struggling and he plans to take all the time in the world to get her used to the idea of being in her life. Tony is planning for the long haul and although Leigh tries to push him away, Tony though won't budge. When Leigh is threatened again, Tony's protective instincts kick in full force. He is planning for their future and no one will step in his way.

Very good story. I thought the pacing was perfect, he took all the time she needed to heal. Shed a few tears during this read. Can't wait to read the next book.

Reading Beautiful Life was like a nice Sunday drive through the country when you were expecting a trip in the fast lane. Where the first book in the series was full of suspense, this one was more a story about the relationship between Leigh and Tony. To me it was a story of a battered and broken woman and the man who made it his goal in life to help her heal so he could give her the beautiful life he felt she deserved.

Parts of the book were beautifully written and I feel like Brynne Asher was spot on with how she portrayed the thought process of how an abused woman can sometimes feel about herself when she is going through the healing process. I liked Leigh, despite how fragile she was. I usually like my heroines tougher, but her state of mind definitely fit what she had endured.

Tony was my favorite. An alpha who puts aside his tendencies in order to do what’s best for his woman, he won me over completely. He handled her with care, maybe at times with too much care.

This book was definitely slower paced. I would have preferred more suspense and felt there were definitely some missed opportunities to make a good story great. I do feel like the author is coming into her own, and it will be a treat to follow along as she grows as a writer. Write faster Ms. Asher, I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

This is the second book of the series, and my second book by this author. I enjoyed this one more than the first one. It might just be because I'm getting to know the family more.

I loved Tony so much in this one. I want a Tony in my life. He is now one of my favorite book boyfriends. I was so glad that Leigh was able to get out of her situation. I loved that Tony pretty much stepped in immediately and said at last. I really felt sorry for his mom. I’ve had a very dear friend elope without me. It hurts. The interactions with the rest of the family were fantastic. I already have the third book downloaded and ready go.

Just okay. I had the same issues with the long dialogue and the not so smooth transition from past to present in the first half of this book, but the second half got a lot better. My biggest problem was the hero.

They had known each other for years and both had a crush on each other in high school, but instead of doing anything about it, he would have rather have lived his life and was gonna wait until after he finished law school to maybe pursue her, but she had gotten married to, of course, an abusive husband. No skin off his back though, and he never sounded like he regretted not taking a chance with her, at least not til the VERY end. If anything it sounded like he is glad they ended up together now and not back when "he was a horny teenager" that would have probably screwed up his chances with her anyways, and considering how he was right up until he got with the heroine, I take it that he wouldn't have been able to keep it in his pants maybe?

The way he would talk about their pasts definitely sounded like he would have rather have lived his life than being tied down to the heroine, and he made it just sound a little like it was convenient to be with her. He did make one comment about how long he waited to finally be with her, but he never TRIED. He never even gave a little inclination that he even liked her or was upset she married someone else until AFTER her divorce, and it was really because he felt bad her husband was abusive. I mean they ALL knew that her husband was uber controlling and he never once showed he was jealous or cared about her or about the relationship, again, until AFTER everything happened. Then he came on way too strong to a woman who has been abused, and again it just felt like he only got with her because it was convenient and that since she is finally single, he'll just shoot his shot with her.

It just felt like he treated her carelessly at times, and though he was technically a good bf to her and treated her well when they were together, it also didn't really feel special or like it would be any different than him with anyone else. And one last thing that got on my nerves, was when the first time he described her, he made a comment about how he usually goes for women with more "tits and a**" and it just sounded really sleazy coming from him, and again made it sound like "eh, it'll do". In the last book he had brought a 19 year old, not realizing she was that young (he's 29) to a family gathering, which also shows how sleazy he is. So, ya. Definitely not couple goals.

Overall, just an okay book. Entertaining enough, but I wasn't really a fan of the couple or the pet names they were overly abusing. Luckily there was no OW drama, especially because the hero being pretty much a manh* with low standards literally right up until the heroine, but even that couldn't save the book for me. Wasn't a terrible book, but so far the heroes haven't really shown any book boyfriend qualities yet. (I also may be overly harsh rn because I'm in the biggest book slump ever😅)

Beautiful Life starts out with Leigh not having such a beautiful life. She just went through the most horrible thing, and now she's living with her best friend Gabby while she gets better. Things start to get a little crazy for her when Tony, Gabby's cousin, and Leigh's high school crush, starts to show major interest in her. He decides he's going to take it really slow with her, but things just heat up awfully fast for them, especially when it seems like someone may be after Leigh, and no one knows why. These two must work hard together, before it is too late.

This book was really good! I don't think it is exactly as good as the first, but that's mainly because I totally adored Gabby and her man! But this one was still really good. I felt so bad for Leigh, but I also felt like she was doing her best to move on from it. And Tony was a freaking trooper. He stuck by her, and helped when she needed him, I loved that! And he was also a total alpha male. Other then that the story was very interesting, and now I can not wait to read more in this series. Especially Tony's little sisters book, because that chick is the freakin shiz! Kudos to the author for this awesome series!!

After reading/devouring Overflow I was looking forward to Tony and Leigh's story. This one didn't have the suspense that we got in Overflow, but none-the-less I spent a very pleasant afternoon reading this. That said, I wish there had been a bit more suspense, there was certainly enough groundwork laid down for it.

Leigh suffered years of horrific abuse from her husband until one day he goes too far and she manages to get away. Cue Tony, who's been waiting in the wings for her - he sees his in and grasps it with both hands. This book is more about Leigh's healing and growing into a confidant woman. I loved seeing how patient, caring, encouraging, supportive and loving Tony is towards her, helping her grow.

I picked up quite a few editing issues that didn't really detract from my reading experience but could easily be mopped up by an editor.

Another amazing book in what is looking to become one of my favorite series. I am totally in love with Tony. He checks all my alpha hero boxes and then some. Despite some of the heavy subject matter of this storyline, the angst here was not very heavy. Overall, a great read.

Another winner in this series. Ms Ashers Men really know how to treat a lady. They are hard on the outside and so soft on the inside... borderline gooey! Sometimes a writer can go too far and it comes across to the reader as too sweet or too over the top, but for me her men are just perfect. I got to know Tony in the first book and I have to say I didn’t know him at all! He certainly lifted his game for Paige and I loved that. There is humour in this series as well as pain and heartache. These men certainly know how to insert themselves in their womens lives. (So funny) They are just so bossy! 🤗 4.5 stars.
