Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild #1

Otterly Irresistible

Rate this book
A hot grump. A sunny optimist. And an attraction that's--yep, we're gonna say it--irresistible.

Broody wildlife veterinarian Griffin Foster is done. Done trying to save the world. Done getting attached. He’s been fired twice for standing his ground and now he’s going to be content — by God — in small-town Louisiana, in a small veterinary practice, where there will only be small problems.

Quiet and boring, though? Um, no. He’s been adopted by a loud, crazy Cajun family with a tiny petting zoo for him to care for. Hey, it’s not endangered tigers at a nationally renowned zoo, but a family of otters — and all the gumbo he can eat — isn’t a bad deal.

Until she shows up. Again.

The sunny, gorgeous optimist who stole his heart — and his favorite shirt — two months ago. Who clearly hasn’t heard the word “no” enough in her life. And who is the first woman to put even a tiny crack in his don’t-get-attached wall.

Charlotte “Charlie” Landry is the new marketing consultant for the family swamp-boat tour company and petting zoo. It might not have been her plan, but she is all in, ready to grow the business. Whether the hot, grumpy vet likes it or not.

He doesn’t.

Worse, sparring with his unforgettable one-night stand is more fun than he’s had in a long time.

But watching wears-designer-dresses Charlie find her dream job amongst a bunch of goats, alpacas, and otters is a surprise.

And her helping him find his passion again is... well, irresistible.

* A sunny optimist hell-bent on growing his business whether he likes it or not (he doesn’t).

* An accidental petting zoo (I mean, who can *not* pet baby goats and alpacas?)

* A goat with a crush. And a jealous streak (she does *not* want to share Griffin...but who would?)

* Otters. Lots of otters (and yes, the hot grumpy vet talks to them)

* A barn, a rainstorm, and a little hay-bale bonding. (yep, that kind of bonding)

* And an undeniable attraction that’s… yep, I'm going to say it… irresistible. (sorry... I couldn't resist ;) )

Are you ready for lots of laughs, lovin' and adorable animals?

Charlotte "Charlie" Landry didn't grow up in Autre, Louisiana with her Landry cousins but she did spend summers there. So she did participate in some of the wild, crazy Landry hijinks. Her goal in life though was to join or run a successful business that also gives to the community. That's what she was hoping for when she took the marketing position for the cosmetic company in Paris. Then she got herself fired for keying the CEO's son' Porsche. She had a good reason for her actions but, even so, she got fired. Now she is the marketing consultant for the family's Boys of the Bayou business. She needs the job to pay $10,000 restitution for the specialty paint job on the jerk's Porsche. Only the Landrys would place bets on why Charli got fired. I loved seeing who the winner of the bet was. The plus side with this situation is that she gets to be with her family in Autre. On the super plus side she gets to see the hot, sexy, grumpy guy she had a one-night-stand with when she attended her cousins' weddings two months ago. All she knows about this guy besides his love of animals and his ability to wow her with his sexual prowess is that his name is Griffin. She hasn't been able to get him out of her thoughts since that night. Beside her job as marketing consultant Charli also has been tasked with assisting the veterinarian on site. Guess who her boss is. Yep. Dr. Griffin Foster.

Griffin Foster ended up as a partner in the Autre veterinarian clinic with his friend Tori Landry after getting fired from his job at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. This isn't his dream job of a wildlife vet protecting endangered species and educating people about the wildlife. Not exactly what he is doing in Autre but being taken in by the Landry family is a big plus. This sure is different from his job at the zoo. He has a stalker, a goat named Sugar. And when he's upset he goes and talks to the otters. Then there's the sexy, hot woman he had an out-of-this-world, mind-blowing one-night-stand with two months ago. All he knows is that her name is Charlotte. Here's hoping she comes back to visit again. He can't get her out of his head.

Otterly Irrestible by Erin Nicholas is her awesome first book in the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series. I loved everything about this book. The Landry family is a hoot! It's great how they always have each other's back and are willing to pitch in to accomplish family goals. They are lots of fun. Then there are the animals. The goats are named after the Seven Dwarfs, the ducks after Harry Potter characters and the otter kids after candy. What a fun sense of humor Ms. Nicholas has. I love her voice and her humor. I want to go to Autre and be adopted by the Landrys.

Is it true that opposites attract?

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

4.5 What's Not To Like Stars
IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIST, It's FREE!!!!
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
Only Erin Nicholas could create another series that would cause laughing and snorting on the regular. Yes, if one was sipping a drink, I wouldn't put reading certain passages causing a Spit Take or two either. It is her special talent to take characters and make them relatable and fun, even when they may be grumpy as hell.

How can that be, Wendy...
Well, let's examine a few things...

We have the grumpy, grouchy wildlife vet, Griffin Foster.
It is the loss of the vet/zoo job he loved that has him down here in the Bayou taking care of this new petting zoo run by the out-of-control Landrys. He is learning their ways and it seems the only living things he can feel comfortable talking to are the animals he takes care of...

This causes all of the creatures to develop incredible crushes on him, making them follow him around endlessly. With these sweet souls, he talks, gabs, and shares all kinds of deep thoughts. The joke is he has no use for people...and reduces all sorts of communication to one or two words if possible when dealing with them.

We also have the beautiful, flirty, strong, Charlotte “Charlie” Landry. This is a Landry cousin who has been working in Paris doing marketing and branding. A perfect fit for her career, she loves to chat, present all sorts of ideas, and has the habit of not taking no for answer. Charlie is at the Landry's because of the weddings, sees Griffin, asks him for a dance, and he couldn't say no fast enough.

That will not do for Charlie. She follows him outside and sees him chatting and dealing with a group of animals circled around him. Hearing the way he talks to them, the tenderness and tone...It causes Charlie to advance and decide something should happen between them. It does and Griffin figures, Charlie is going back to Paris, so he will be able to go back to his singular life.

Instead, Charlie comes back, takes the job of marketing the new endeavor, And Is Staying. Gah...

Think of the older classic song, Something's Got To Give...

When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me
You can bet just as sure as you live
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Something's got to give

Oh and give it does, yum.

This is a perfect addition to all the Bayou goodness we have enjoyed by Ms. Nicholas. There is more to come, me oh my.

Otterly Irresistible, another amazing book by Erin Nicholas, book one in her Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series, is a “can’t put down” story. This story exemplifies the genius that is Erin Nicholas and her writing; pulling the reader in when a super hot, grumpy, vet meets a sunny, sassy happy, optimist and lots of cute, adorable animals. This opposites attracts, small town romance contains animal attraction and antics.

Griffin Foster, a wildlife veterinarian, is done getting attached and trying to save the world. All it’s gotten him is fired twice for staying up for what he believes is right. Now he’s living in a small town in Louisiana and working at a small veterinary practice where there shouldn’t be too many major problems. Oh wait, he’s been adopted by a loud, crazy Cajun family and has a tiny petting zoo for him to care for. It might not be the endangered tigers at a national zoo, where he used to work. There is a family of otters he’s become attached to and a goat who stalks him, and all the gumbo he can eat. A life Griffin can be content with. At least until she shows up, again; the sunny, beautiful optimist who stole his heart, and his favorite shirt, two months ago. A woman who doesn’t accept “no” for an answer and the first woman to put even a tiny crack in his don't-get-attached wall. A woman he had an unforgettable one-night stand with and who Griffin enjoys arguing with.

Charlotte "Charlie" Landry has become the new marketing consultant for the family swamp-boat tour company and petting zoo after losing her job in Paris. It might not have been her plan, but she is all in, ready to grow the business. No matter what the hot, grumpy Griffin thinks. No longer wearing her designer dresses Charlie finds a dream job working with a bunch of goats, alpacas, and otters; even adding more animals to the petting zoo. Charlie is finding it difficult to resist the magnetic attraction and off the charts chemistry she shares with Griffin. Working with Charlie awakens the missing passion and love for life Griffin lost, awakening feelings; being unable to resist her. Totally irresistible.

Ms. Nicholas creates characters that are appealing, magnetic, sizzling and ready for some action. Once again she outdid herself by writing an amazing story with a hot, grumpy hero and a heroine in need of finding her way in the world that fits her, that should definitely not be missed. This is a tale rich with emotions, sizzling chemistry, sassy and charming characters, supporting Griffin and Charlie on their journey for finding everlasting love and achieving all they desire. I highly recommend Otterly Irresistible to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

'In the Landry family, there were very few rules when it came to love. They just did it. They just loved. Big and loud and fiercely. And they didn’t get hung up on things like it not making sense or it being too fast or two people seemingly not fitting together. Love was love. If you felt it, you felt it. And if you were a Landry, you embraced it, and you celebrated it, and you fought for it. The Landry family tree had many amazing, crazy love stories. There wasn’t one person currently residing in Autre, Louisiana, who would tell her that it was bonkers to think she was in love with Griffin Foster after only two weeks.'

I've been a subscriber to Erin Nicholas's bookish newsletter for some time. I've wanted to read something from her contemporary catalogue for even longer than that. With what I thought would be an irresistible (as of the title) rom-com with boisterous energy, a grumpy/reserved veterinarian who went small town for a reason and an unstoppable heroine with a fun personality who brings his ambition back to life, a big, bad blue-collar Cajun family clan, animal pun and a title that had me at 'Otterly', I did believe this would be the long-awaited read from Erin Nicholas that I had been waiting for. Just a note for curious readers that Otterly Irresistible commences Nicholas's spinoff collection to the original Boys of the Bayou series so it's recommended to start there if you'd rather not be peppered with character names and relationships without knowing who's the who or why so many of Charlie's nutsy, very laid-back ex/current troublemaker cousins are coupled up already. There was something about the story that makes it read longer than it needs to be while still not quite being enough to satiate at the same time. In a phrase, it felt tougher than necessary to get through, which is why I resultingly made the decision to DNF for now.

Not to say that Griffin and Charlie's book isn't enjoyable but it just isn't as enjoyable as I'd anticipated. My biggest dilemma stemmed from not feeling joyously invested in them as a pair and I struggled in wanting to stay interested in their courtship altogether. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic was amusing and engaging to begin with and I felt ok with Griffin's level of resistance because a) we knew through his inner monologue how he really feels about Charlie b) because it gave us something to anticipate in how things might shift relationship wise and c) because the author smartly utilises a creative reason for his emotional lassitude other a failed past romantic relationship igniting the cause for his apathy. His resistance has one simple reason: she's the very thing that could bridge the gap between him and the passionate man who once cared about all he was passionate for. In addition to that, Charlie seemed to have a big, bright and fun personality that was up to the challenge of disarming one brooding Griffin. Needing some Autre attitude and freedom Charlie's return to Louisiana is immediately unexpected, taking her brief time between jobs to lend her marketing maniac expertise to the Boys of the Bayou offshoot, project marketing to keep herself temporarily occupied. She's hoping for some summer sun and fun with the town vet (aka Griffin).

The Boys of the Bayou businesses are Landry heritage and Griffin's partner to one of their trades. A regular old disenchanted Doctor Doolittle who no longer wants to be one, now one with a bad attitude and works as the clinic vet. While I would say that the romance is good for the most part, and there's nothing at all tremendously unappealing about it, it doesn't move anywhere more interesting than the borders it exists within. I was always waiting for the romance to take itself somewhere, to excite me a bit more. The overlong passages could be wearisome; they tend towards stalling the story when I was eager for more onwards and upwards. Boredom could often accompany that sadly. I understand that the author kindly took the time to introduce and explain the original characters from the Boys of the Bayou series into the story (which would be helpful for readers who start here with Otterly Irresistible) but some of this contributed to the lulls I experienced. Ultimately, I just found myself not feeling excited about it bar the first few chapters. The story was otherwise more humdrum as opposed to attracting me in the ways I thought it would.

As for Charlie? She is a fun personality, a whirling dervish of ideas, plans and possibilities for the family business now that she's back in the bayou, albeit temporarily. For obvious reasons, Griffin's not on board with any of the changes she plans to make but he's roped into a project he never wanted to be a part of, and with the implicit confidence of the Landry family on his side, he's having to face what initially forced him to settle small-town to begin with. But her always finding every single thing Griffin did as attractive and charming even when he wasn't being attractive and charming felt a bit rhetorically credulous? On top of that, she seemed to take Griffin's every refusal as an adamant affirmative, as if she knew better and that alone accounted for her pursuit. Charlie's open about her attraction to him (which was refreshing), and while it was amusing to see his every reaction to those moments, someone can be attracted to you and decide not to act on the desire felt. That's their choice, but Charlie always struggled with relinquishing whatever affront his rebuttal was to her and proceeds to rarely let him of the hook, like it's her choice to make. Like I said, it could be entertaining but there can also be a fine line with eventuating it - It did take start to take a more irritating path. I suppose it's one thing to be attractively persistent and another not to take no for an answer and then become ruffled by the no's.

The Landry family are kind of like an Autre Institution and they roped Griffin into the fold like long lost family member. I really liked their backstory as a big family community, how their family businesses evolved, the character personalities, the setting and how their small-town petting zoo and tour company came to be. The author, through characters such as Tori and Griffin (but mostly Griffin), does a decent job of highlighting the stakes of animal activism, the losses and the safeguarding, the passions, the sacrifice and the forfeit involved both personal and professional. Griffin's entire character is built upon the premise, how his deepened desire for awareness became sidelined by past employers who took him and his ethical code for granted. His relationship with his ambition and the animals he loved took a hit and he's been neither excited nor passionate about anything in a long time. He's attentive with the animals in his care, and even though his goat stalker proves otherwise, that's as far as his affection reaches for now. Both Charlie and Griffin are passionate about the work they do, her with her big marketing dream to make an impact and his with preserving animal rights. Though, with Griffin, in the story we find him void of the big dream he once had to make conservation a widespread education, even though he still has a principled code by any and all animals in his care.

It might seem wasteful that I didn't make it 100% of the way through when I only had 20% left to get there but slow reader that I hold my hands up to being, every page really does count so I have to be more mindful about where the energy goes. But if you're side-eyeing me and thinking seriously, you couldn't get through the remainder of the story? Or think I'm effectively assassinating your buzz for the story, I say read on, enjoy and turn blind eyes and deaf ears to me. I'll probably try another Nicholas romance for further experimentation but for now I'm going to place Otterly Irresistible on hold. I'm not sure if I'll come back it and resume the final 20% at some point but my status is hereby pending for the foreseeable future. And if you're enjoying it? I hope it's one for the good books and the good reads!

Content Warning: some swearing. Describes a prior physical/sexual assault to a non-cast character. Mentions alcoholism. Past parent deaths. Death of an animal post-accident. Two detailed smut scenes (from what I'd read up to the 81% point).

Can someone get adopted from a fictional family? Not asking for a friend, I would totally love to be adopted by the Landrys! Or at least get a honorary "Landry girl" badge? Every new book from Erin Nicholas in which the Landry family is featured makes me fall more and more in love with them and I cannot get enough of them.

This time you also have a massive new load of cute and adorable and messy animals that tug on your heart, so really, don't put up a fight they are gonna win you over. Ask Paige (from Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour) or Griffin. They really tried not to get attached to this family and failed. They are just too loud, noisy, crazy and lovable. And the animals! Don't let me get started. Before we "just" had Gus and Gertie, the otters. Now we get to meet their pups, the goats, ducks, pot bellied pigs, alpacas, emu and the new additions to the petting zoo. Which have all amazingly clever and fun names. I am not gonna spoiler the name because they are so worth discovering them while you read it it would be a shame.

So really, what is there more to say? You have the Landrys in all their glory, with Charlie being an optimistic and solar marketing consultant who goes back to the bayou and immediately takes a liking to the petting zoo and the grumpy and broody vet Griffin. Who prefers to talk to otters and various animals than to people (seriously, his talks with Paige's cats were hilarious), but he's gonna make an exeption for this unstoppable Landry. Probaly.

What happens when bigger than life Charlie takes over the petting zoo and Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild? Taking a wild guess it's gonna become bigger and louder and otterly amazing!

‘Otterly Irresistible’ is the first of the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series. A spin off series of the Boys of the Bayou. This is excellent, because it means more laugh out loud moments, more wonderful and adorable otters (and baby goats in pajamas😊), more of the feel-good moments, and those ‘ it’s so hot I have to fan my kindle’ moments; and of course more of the Landrys. The Landrys are a big, loud, somewhat crazy family and I want to be part of them. This new story features the new veterinarian, Griffin, who we first met in ‘Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour’ (another 5 star book).

Griffin is the epitome of my favorite type of hero. Grumpy, a bit broken, a bit nerdy, a bit hot, a bit lonely, and a big heart for animals. Of course, Charlotte seems to be his opposite in every way. She’s cheerful, chatty, delightful (as Griffin says), no one can say no to her, and a has the Landry over the top way. She’s perfect for Griffin. The perfect one to bring him back out of the cocoon he’s buried himself in after some disappointments in his professional career as a top zoo vet.

Charlotte is back in town after her own disappointment with a job in Paris. She’s going to help the family and the Boys of the Bayou grow their business through her marketing genius. She has lots of ideas to increase business and Griffin just keeps saying “no”. He doesn’t want to get close; he doesn’t want to get attached, he wants simple and uncomplicated. Not the Landry way.

I can’t stop smiling every time I think about this book, but it’s always like that with an Erin Nicholas book. She continually creates characters I want to be friends with. I love Boys of the Bayou and am so excited for this new series and being able to catch up on the lives of our friends in Autre, LA! Another 5 star read!!!

While this is first in a series, it's actually an extension of the Boys of the Bayou series. Indeed, couples from that prior series are all over this one, so I wouldn't recommend starting here.

I'm not a huge fan of Griffin, frankly. He's a total grump and his "poor me" attitude is kind of grade school. He's gruff and off-putting and I honestly don't get Charlie's attraction, at least to start. Once he mellows, he does much better, but it's kind of like a personality transformation so I'm not sure it holds together very well.

I liked Charlie enough that I persisted despite not finding Griffin interesting. She's interesting enough for any three other people. I liked her energy and dedication and take-charge paladin fervor. She was fun to spend time with and I even liked seeing her gung-ho the mopes out of Griffin.

Once they got going, I liked them as a couple. Griffin was still a bit of a drag, with what would have been a negative motivation* if he had taken it seriously at all. Fortunately, he didn't, so the relationship progresses very nicely. Okay, it progresses with rocket engines and pretty much culminates at maybe two-thirds into the story, so that all that's left is getting all the words out and some setup shenanigans so we'll have a framework to hang the rest of the series on.

And I was pretty much at 3½ stars when we get to the ending and the words turned out to be all the right words and I loved it so very much. Well, except for the setup part for the next book that was rather intrusive. At any rate, I'm rounding to four stars, though that's probably me being generous because I liked the prior series and seeing everybody being happy together was fun.

A note about Steamy: There are explicit sex scenes that I think are about the middle of my steam tolerance. I'm not sure because my reading got interrupted by a trip to Colorado with my siblings to celebrate my mom's 75th birthday.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

This is the first book in the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series. I love a book that includes a happy, sunshine and quirky girl and a tortured grumpy hero and oh this book has that in spades. Plus there are otters who have heart to heart talks with our hero! This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steamy, side splitting hilarity, tearful scenes, a big loud over the top family, truckloads of cute animals, and so much heart squeezing love. Griffin and Charlotte (Charlie)’s love story has all the feels - expect to laugh and to cry. On the surface, Griffin and Charlie appear to be opposites. Griffin is a vet who was fired from a prestigious job at the national zoo and landed in small town Autre, Louisiana sharing a vet practice. Griffin just wants to be left alone, wants to have limited interactions with people, and wants to just take care of animals. Charlie is a gorgeous, loud, vivacious big thinker who rarely hears the world no which is good since she works in marketing. Griffin and Charlie have one quick sexual encounter at a wedding, where only first names are exchanged. Charlie then goes off to work in Paris and they assume their paths will never cross again. Unfortunately, Charlie is fired from her job and comes back to Autre to do marketing for her cousin’s tour business and be the p/t assistant at the vet practice, co-owned by one of her cousin’s wives, a vet practice also co-owned by Griffin, and that is where the hilarity really begins. On their way to their HEA, Griffin and Charlie have to both learn a lot about love, family, duty, and embracing who you are. While they follow the inevitable path to being together, it is painfully hilarious to watch their growth and missteps. Sprinkled liberally throughout this beautifully paced story of Griffin and Charlie’s HEA, there are also a number of characters from the author’s Bayou Universe in this book. They are woven seamlessly into this story so rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are beautiful and hilarious additions to the unfurling of Griffin and Charlie’s dance of love, passion and hilarity. And I will be forever picturing Griffin’s put upon face from whatever antics Charlie has dreamed up now. I cannot wait to see what’s next for the Landrys and the rest of Autre.

I adore everything about Griffin and his stalker, over protected animals. Or should I say Sugar and her crew of odd balls that go everywhere together. LOL My love grew for this grumpy man through out the book. I don't think anyone else would have made a better match then Charlie. She is just the right amount of class and sass. Her heart is Landry through and through. She has all that Cajon love you love in all the other people we have meet in the other books. If I would pick my favorite girl from the group she has moved to the top of my list.

In this book we see that Griffin is trying to be happy with simple. He has everything he thinks he needs. He has animals he cares about. Some very close otters and A small petting zoo. He didn't think he was missing anything. Then along came Charlie to "help" the family with marketing of the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild and to assist Griffin with his practice while Tori tries to work less hours as her pregnancy starts to progress.

We not going to even talk about attraction. Nope, or one night stands that leave them wanting more. Not going to say anything about the new animals they add and how much Charlie puts into her job. She is a firecracker for sure. I am going to say they are hot and steamy. They have a love connection I really enjoyed watching grow.

I had all the feelings for this book. My heart even broke a few times. When reading this book I felt like I was inside the story. I couldn't put it down. I was afraid something would happen while I was gone. This is a book you must pick up and read. Then go back and read all the other books this author has written. Your going to want to not miss out on any of them.

This story is otterly perfect! :)

I was so happy when this new series was announced. Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild is a spin off of one of my favorite series ever, the original Boys of the Bayou. That means more Landrys, more animals, more smoking hot HEAs and I could not be more excited!

After one incredible night together, Griffin Foster and Charlie Landry don't expect to see each other again.  When Charlie unexpectedly returns to Louisiana, the pair can't deny their crazy attraction. Griffin is determined not to get involved but this is Autre and Charlie's a Landry so anything is possible!

Griffin is one of my favorite types of heros: gruff and grumpy on the outside with a huge squishy heart on the inside. Charlie is a fantastic heroine. She throws her herself into every project, whether it's personal or professional with all her heart. Together, these opposites didn't just attract, they combust! Add in the steamiest of steamy scenes, animal hijinks, and the always hilarious Landry family, Otterly Irresistible is a definite must read! I can't wait to see what Erin Nicholas has in store for us with the rest of the series!!!

I loved this charming romance between Charlie and Griffin set in the Louisiana Bayou. I enjoyed reading about the animals, and the plans for the petting zoo, but started to get bored towards the end. I will still continue with the series though since the author really makes the characters come alive. I enjoyed meeting the Landry family and look forward to finding out more about them in future books.

I have loved Griffin since Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat but man this book made me appreciate and love Griffin on a whole other level. His love for all animals of all kinds, his strong desire to protect animals at any cost to himself, and his personality makes him one of my favorite book heros I've read. I loved reading the chapters in his POV so much that I was accurately searching the moment the scene or chapter flipped to know who's POV the scene was in. But most of all, I loved Griffin with Charlie.

Charlie (or Charlotte) is an amazing human being, one of those types where everyone falls in love with them the second they meet them. Charlie reminds me of Ollie from the Erin Nicholas Hot Cakes series. She draws the attention of everyone like she is the sun and you can't look away. I loved her personality and how much she cares for her family and the animals. Her ideas always go above and beyond and you can't help want to help with her ideas no matter how crazy.

Griffin and Charlie are perfect for each other and I loved reading their story. In the beginning, they seem to have major personality differences and reading how they handle their differences made their relationship so much better. I can't wait to see both Charlie and Griffin in future books!!

This is the first book in the new series Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild. We know most of the people in the book from the previous series Boys of the Bayou but this series will be on the extended family of Landry cousins. First is Charlotte "Charlie" Landry and veterinarian Griffin Foster. They first meet at the weddings of Charlie's cousins and have a really hot meeting and he doesn't know who she is just that she's leaving for Paris in a couple days. Charlie ends up coming back to Autre and Boys of the Bayou when she gets fired from her job. Griffin doesn't know that the Charlie the Landry's have hired as his assistant for the summer isn't a boy but the girl he met as Charlotte. Since he's going to be her boss, he doesn't feel right in pursuing her romantically. Charlie does everything big and keeps adding more animals to the new Gone Wild animal petting park. At first, Griffin is reluctant to add the new animals but Charlie's way of getting everyone to say "Yes" wins him over. Things are always smooth with both of their big, explosive personalities but Charlie's exuberance wins Grumpy Griffin over. I loved the way Griffin and Charlie are concerned with the other's feelings. The other Landry cousins are introduced and I can't wait to read all of their stories. Even though it's a new series, it doesn't feel like it since we know most of the others in the book. I received an early copy of the book to read without any expectation of anything in return. I have my own copy on order. I'm leaving my honest review.

I give up.. (90%).
I'd rather reread a book I know I'll like than force myself through another chapter of this one. I don't care anymore. There is nowhere interesting it could go to, anyway.
- Every one in the large family and their dog has been mentioned, their role in each others lives, but since I didn't read the previous series I didn't find it adorable but rather unnecessary.
- The relationship between Charlie and Griffin developed nicely for the greater part of the book, but now the author seems didn't know how to keep us interested in them as a couple, she just invents new variations of the same theme: Charlie wants new exciting animals for the petting zoo (which is becoming a wildlife park it seems), Griffin doesn't want to add animals because they should be left in their natural habitat, but is delighted she wants to add them for his happiness' sake, repeat.
It got old real fast and the issue (animals in zoos) didn't feel genuine anymore, just hypocrite and stupid.
2,5 stars (I liked the first half of the story and how the attraction /relationship progressed until both were in love and wanted to give it a go).

I was so excited to read Griffin and Charlie's story and this new series featuring adorable animals from Erin Nicholas and I was not disappointed. Griffin, the grumpy vet, and Charlotte, the bubbly marketing guru, meet at the weddings in Four Weddings and A Swamp Boat Tour. Griffin is trying to stay apart from the Landry family since he came to Autre...he just doesn't want to get involved. But if you know the Landry's from the previous books, they ain't about to let that happen. Charlie and Griffin have a hot encounter at the barn the night of the weddings then Charlie is off to Paris for a new job. But it doesn't work out and she's back in Autre. And working for the vet clinic. And she has big ideas for making the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild petting zoo grow. And Griffin tries to block everything she wants to do. But in true Landry style, Griffin finds Charlie Otterly Irresistible.

This new series is So. Much. Fun!!! I just love the animals, even their names are fun. The stories hold the tried and true Erin Nicholas formula and they pull you in from the very first page. I hope you enjoy this new story and series as much as I did! <3

Do you love it when a story puts a smile on your face? How about a perma-smile? Well, Otterly Irresistible is just the story for you. After the first few paragraphs I was smiling and it became a permanent smile as I read through this "otterly delightful" story about Charlie and Griffin's romance. Griffin starts off as this broody veterinarian who prefers interacting with animals over people. Enter Charlotte "Charlie" Landry who is sweet and bubbly and very talkative. Together, their chemistry is sizzling but I especially loved their banter and interactions. So adorably cute and fun. It was funny reading how Griffin tried to resist her. Such a futile effort. These two seriously were so fun to read but add in cute animal interactions and a large, loud and crazy but loving Cajun family and you've got a really fun, light-hearted story that will just make your day better. I highly recommend Otterly Irresistible.

Erin Nicholas has taken funny to the next level with Otterly Irresistible, book one in the Boys of Bayou Gone Wild series! So, if you love to laugh out loud and have people look at you funny while you are reading then you must grab this book and get ready to have a smile permanently fixed on your face! Wrap that all around a sweet romance story and boom, you have a winner!

Griffin is quiet and a bit broody on the outside but what he is really hiding his big heart. He doesn’t show that softer side of himself often but Charlie has had glimpses of it and finds that side of him totally swoon worthy. While he may have came into Autre as an outsider, the Landry clan has a way of pulling you in and making you one of their own and even without realizing it he has been fitting it for a while but once Charlie Landry falls into his controlled world all bets are off! She is smart, sassy and absolutely delightful and he can’t resist her brand of crazy, sweet and fun!
Charlie is one of those characters that you can’t help but love. She is charming, loves her family and is finding a way to seamlessly worm her way under Griffin’s skin and there is just something about her that he can’t say no to as much as he tries to do so.

Where do I start my review for this Otterly wonderful story, is it with the oddball group of animals, the curmudgeonly veterinarian who talks to his animals (ala Dr Doolittle), is it the sassy, smart over exuberant (but in a good way) heroine, or is it the big, rowdy bayou family you want to be a part of? From the otterly adorable opening scene to the otterly hot and sexy session in a barn, to the otterly hilarious interactions throughout, to the otterly wonderful heart-warming moments, to the otterly spectacular ending, this book is romance gold! After being fired from his second big job with a zoo protecting animals that couldn’t protect themselves from idiot humans, Griffin Foster finds himself working in small town bayou town in Louisiana in a veterinarian practice with a med school friend. He’s recently taken on the job of keeping the petting zoo animals safe and happy as well. It wasn’t his life’s dream but the Landry family has welcomed him with open arms even if he didn’t want to be welcomed or become caught up in their crazy, he’s smack dab in the middle of it when not one, not two, but three Landry’s get married. He won’t deny that the beautiful blond wedding guest who asked him to dance caught his eye, but she screams high maintenance and wanting a forever and that means she’s not for him but when she tells him she’s leaving the country in two days, what’s the harm in a little physical relief. Charlotte “Charlie” Landry is happy to be back with her family to celebrate the wedding of three of her cousins. She’s always loved the time she’s spent in Autre with this side of her family and it’s the perfect stop before she heads for her new marketing job in Paris, France, a dream come true for her.  When she catches the hot guy who turned her down for a dance talking to a goat she’s amused but as she helps him get them back to their homes, she’s intrigued and a little bayou fling before heading out of town is just what she needs. I love a slow burn romance, but I also love when a couple has that instant gotta have it now connection and that’s exactly what Griffin and Charlotte had. More than that I loved their banter, the way they got under each other’s skin and the absolute joy when after being fired from her job in France, she winds up back in Autre to help get her cousin’s business, Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild, off the ground. Problem is she’s also been hired to help in the veterinarian clinic and Griffin is sort of her boss and he refuses to have a personal relationship with her. Charlotte dreams big and when her ideas for the new business clash with Griffin’s needs to protect the animals their spirited conversations leads to more and more heat until it’s hotter than the bayou in the middle of August. Add in the big, loud, and always in your business Landry family and this book was just a fun, crazy, and ridiculously sexy story from start to finish. Otterly Irresistible starts off The Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series on a very high note and I cannot wait to watch all of the wild single Landry men fall fast and hard.  --

Oh my goodness! Just like the title suggests, this book is “Otterly Irresistible!”

I read and reviewed this book as part of the author’s review team.

If you’ve read anything by Erin Nicholas, you can agree that her stories are so fun to read. Well this is the first book in her new series Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild. It has all of the same people that you meet in the Boys of the Bayou series but focuses on the Landry cousins. The same crazy Landry crew can be found hanging out at Ellie’s bar and supporting each other with whatever they need.

This can be read as a stand alone book, but do yourself a favor and splurge on all of the books from the previous series to get to know each of the family members for yourself. Heck, I would even suggest going ALLLLL the way back and ordering Erin’s entire back list. She makes reading so much fun and each book gets better and better.

This is most closely categorized as a rom-com book - it’s not overly steamy and it has a ton of unique characters that may be of the 4-legged variety!

Run out and get your copy - or do like me and preorder them! The author even sells autographed copies of her books - I am absolutely obsessed with getting a signed copy of each book even though I’ve already read them.

I made it to 6%… not for me. Vanity meets desperation meets narcissism… that’s the FMC. The MMC turns her down and insists he just isn’t interested, and all she can inner dialogue is how perfect she is in designer fashion and personality… and that he *should* like her … and how “charming” he is? Wtf? No. Seriously. Wtf? She sounds like the horrid OW the reader is supposed to hate lol.

Anyway, no rating. Just a note that this isn’t my cup’a. Moving on~

Grumpy Griffin is a good veterinarian. He has worked with elephants in Africa, tigers at the National Zoo in DC, and now he is working with river otters in Autre, Louisiana. He likes animals more than people, and to Griffin, simple is best. Charming Charlie, well, she’s delightful! She is also passionate, optimistic, and a Landry. She sees everything bigger, as in, the family petting zoo should become an animal park. Instead of goats, why not elephants?! Can two such opposites meet in the middle, or will their chemistry cause explosions? Author Erin Nicholas has a winner in this first in series for Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild. I enjoyed the animals. I enjoyed the Landry’s. I enjoyed Ellie’s bar, the barn, and all of the cousins. But mostly, I enjoyed the laughs. This is a fun one!

’Which in and of itself was a shock. She was a talker.
Griffin was not.
But then she’d held a goat. In a cocktail dress and high heels.
And he suddenly had a new fetish.’

honestly this book was a really great take on the grumpy-sunshine trope. the first 3 chapters (which were my fav from the whole book) showed it most. Griffin talks to otters and Charlie was a delight. i was pretty excited. but then they gotta ruin it all by hooking up. but the book said : oh wait, don’t ditch me yet, separation is coming, it’s not an insta love story, i promise! so i continued on.

aaand

i’ve been reading this for months now, and not cuz i’m busy or anything. it just didn’t grip me. dunno. i just grew bored eventually. it’s feelings bullshit i don’t get

”Do you have a long mop?”
He turned at the sound of Charlie’s voice. When he saw her, all thoughts left his mind except, Shit, I really like her.

‘Charlie was more than just a gorgeous woman he wanted to do extremely dirty things to—even when she was wearing rubber boots. She was someone who made him laugh, could imagine himself talking to for long periods of time, and who, dammit, had him eager to work with some hedgehogs.
She was someone he could get attached to.
She was trouble.’

“Griffin, there is something that you should know about me,” Charlie said.
He braced himself.
“I always make things work.”
Yeah, that didn’t surprise him. That was a lot like if she’d said, “I always get my way.” Not at all hard to believe.”

so Charlie is actually the main pursuer, cuz Griffin has an attachment issues bla bla bla the usual y’know

”I wouldn’t have risked getting in trouble and having to pay for that paint job for a guy who cheated on me,” she said. “Just being without me would have been punishment enough.”

Charlie studied him. “You know, if you want me to quit talking about being attracted to you and putting it ‘out there,’ you need to stop being so attractive.”
He gave a soft chuckle, and Charlie felt her body warm. It wasn’t exactly desire. At least not in the sexual sense. But it was pleasure at having made him laugh and a desire to make it happen again.
“I’ve just been drenched by rain, and I’m sitting on the floor of a barn with a pig in my lap,” Griffin said. “How’s this attractive?”
“I don’t totally understand it either.”

He looked at her for several beats before asking, “You think I was right?”
“Of course.”
“You don’t know how the whole conversation went or any of the details of the situation.”
“No, but I’ve been around you for five days now.”
“Exactly. You’ve only been around me for five days.”
She leaned in, rested her elbows on her thighs, mimicking his posture. She met his eyes directly. “Griffin, it only takes a few hours with you around animals to see what kind of guy you are and what matters to you.”

essentially the first 3-4 chap were the best ones (4+ stars moments, grumpy sunshine trope at its finest) but i just wished the whole book was like that. still, in comparison to other well known books out there, this books deserves more hype

Otterly Irresistible is otterly delightful ;)

It's the first in Erin Nicholas's Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series, a spinoff of the incredible Boys of the Bayou series, set in Autre, Louisiana.

I’m utterly (otterly? ) charmed within the first couple pages!

I read each chapter, sighing with happiness. Erin Nicholas's books always have me smiling and laughing, and I also know they will move me. Ms Nicholas's writing and characters always grab me and feel real, and I love how they work through real-life stuff in a way that is respectful and vulnerable and hopeful.

Otterly Irresistible is a bit of an opposites attract story, as one gruff Griffin Foster meets the sunny Charlotte "Charlie" Landry. Having been burned more than once for acting on his convictions, Griffin is determined to rein in his more passionate side and focus simply on getting his job done, period. No need to get his emotions involved or make friends or win anyone over or any of that nonsense. You can imagine how well this works out once the boisterously warm Landry family unassumingly welcomes him to the fold.

And Charlie? She can't help but wear her heart on her sleeve. She's got positivity to spare, and is ready to help expand the family business with a smile. Griffin and Charlie find they set off sparks in all the best ways.

As always, Erin Nicholas's characters shine, her dialogue sparkles whether Charlie is teasing Griffin into conversation or Griffin is baring his soul to his otter fan club, and the plot has me ALL in. Otterly Irresistible is a stellar start to this new series, and a incredible read in its own right.

Otterly Irresistible will leave you otterly satisfied!

So much fun! This is the first book in the spin-off series Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild, which means lots of animals, lots of laughter, lots of fun and lots of the Landry family. This story starts off with a grumpy veterinarian, Griffin, and a big-dreamer marketing consultant, Charlie, meet and immediately the sparks come off the page. But the agreement was for one night only. Of course, Charlie is really Charlie Landry, so when she returns to Autre and starts working with Griffin all of her big dreams get thrown at Griffin. The sparks and animal magnetism between these two is hard to deny and you can believe a HEA is in the future. One of the many things I love about Erin Nicholas's books is that the couple's conflict never lasts for long because you know they're meant to be.

While you're falling in love with Griffin and Charlie, as well as about a dozen other animals, you are also meeting up with old favorites from the Boys of the Bayou, as well as getting to know more Landry cousins that will be featured in Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild. So buckle up for the beginning of a wild, fun ride.

Otterly Irresistible by Erin Nicholas is the First book in the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild. This is the story of Charlotte Landry 'Charlie' and Griffin Foster. Griffin has taken a veterinary job in a small town in Louisiana where he thinks he will settle into a quite town to work. But this grumpy Vet finds himself dealing with an eccentric family and a women who pushes all his buttons....especially the hot ones. Charlie is just trying to do her job and make the most of it and the grumpy vet is pushing her hot buttons too. This was a fun, hot and page turning read.

Perfection. I absolutely adore the delightful Charlie Landry. She is a bright shining star who burns intensly and lovingly. I love her wit and her pseudo snark. I love Griffin and how hard he tries to resist. I love the way he tries to detach. I love the big, loud, pushy, meddling Landry family. The story is full of heart and helpfulness and bonding. It makes your heart smile big and bright.i can't wait for Fletcher's story, the bigger they are the harder they fall.
