Marlowe moved to the big city as an escape from their backwater hometown, and a chance to start a new life with their girlfriend, Noelle.
But ever since they arrived, Noelle has been acting... strange. She's not eating or sleeping enough, and she's increasingly exuberant despite her apparent illness. When a worried Marlowe takes a late-night walk through their new city to consider the source of this odd behavior, the streets seem to shift and reshape themselves, drawing them inexorably to their answer...
I really enjoyed this story! It was short and sweet while still packing in a lot of detail and vivid imagery. Personally I did find the transition to the ending a little sudden, and the dialogue felt a little awkward to me. I did really like the ending itself, though! I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested.
The beginning resonated with me somehow. I am all too familiar with the excitement of moving to another place turned to caution and more.
I love the worldbuilding, especially; intersections made interesting and bloody. 👀👀👀 Too bad this was a short story. l would’ve loved to dwell more on this city curse and what other things happen at intersections.
