I was expecting for this series for so long and it didn't disappoint me.
This first book, it's great, at least for me.
Lyriope can't forget the night she meet Nick, so she's accept the invitation of her cousin Sasha and goes to his territory: Wonderland.
She never thought he won't let her leave...
With her life and her brother's in danger, she doesn't have a choice but to accept Nick's help, also he paid for her debt to the Russian mafia.
Now, Lyriope is owing Nick.
And he's going to make her pay...
He wants her virginity.
He takes her to his house, and though Lyriope hates him, she's also drawn to him.
If she breaks his rules, it will be consequences, and Lyriope loves his consequences.
Nick, on the other hand, is feeling too attracted to Lyriope, and it could be very dangerous to him.
Lyriope is a Morelli and they want her with them.
Constantines also knows about her now, so Nick and Lyriope are caught up in the middle of the fight between the two notorious families.
Nick doesn't want to take her virginity, because if he does, the contract ends.
Yes, he made her sign a contract that gives away her innocence to him.
I love Nick, he's cruel, but he's sweet too.
He's a brilliant man, he made his name for himself, and he's got The Wonderland, a safe place for those who are in.
Everyone who's somebody wants an invitation to his club.
He's respected, but with Lyriope situation, he's got a lot in his hands and he may lose everything for what he's worked for.
Lyriope will do everything for that won't happen, even if she has to leave him.
This ends with a cliffhanger.

Confused at the smirk on his face—not sure if he’s angry or amused—I try to pull away, only to feel him pressing against me. “I’ll leave then—”
“You can’t rewrite history,” he says, not allowing me to finish speaking, his fingers tightening, blocking not only my speech, but my very breath. The smirk he gives isn’t one of amusement, but one that has my body trembling with the unknown. “You’re here now. You’re in the middle of this storm. It’s raging and will only get worse.”

When I tell you I will never get tired of the craziness that is the Morelli/Constantine drama, I mean I will never get tired of it. Give it all to me!
And with a brand new cross over trilogy from Alta Hensley, we now meet the bastard daughter of Bryant Morelli and she's no blushing ingenue for the virgin she is. I immediately loved this woman. I mean the second she appears on the pages, stewing in her jealousy, sneaking into a party she has no business in with her cousin Sasha Morelli. The rest of the Morelli brood know nothing about her. And Lyriope is the epitome of the family black sheep. Her parents risky decisions and irresponsible nature leave her on the receiving end of a debt to the Russians that she has no hope of ever repaying and they want blood.
The only hope she has is a man whose reputation precedes him, Nick Hudson. But Nick doesn't do anyone favors, and his protection comes with a price...her body and her virginity. And while it sounds cliche, it just worked here, people. Maybe it was Lyriope's fiery nature to Nick's blatant and dangerous sexuality. I don't know and I don't care, I gobbled it right up.
I'll be honest, at times, I was wondering how this story can stretch over three books. But by the end, I was convinced, even while I cursed that cliffhanger to hell and back.
I loved the nods towards Alice in Wonderland and Nick's mad hatter vibes. I loved the banter, the danger, and the sizzling chemistry. I also loved Nick's obsession because you know I love the crazy possessive types.
A delicious start to what's sure to be a fantastic trilogy!

thats the only thing that i highlighted BUT it was the winning scene that rounded this book from 1.5 stars to 3. so i say well done.
the main issue i have with this book is the writing. idk if i'll get used to it bc its just not my cup of tea BUT the plot/romance has so much potential hence me suffering through the writing.
When I place the slick pen at her anus, she bucks against me. “Nick! No!”
I ignore her demand and press the pen past her puckered hole, enjoying the shocked gasp that escapes her lips.
“Let’s write the terms of the contract,” I begin as I move the pen even deeper inside of her.

In order to achieve his goals he unapologetically gives chase, starting a dangerous game he’s not sure to control anymore.

The combination of badass and fragility make of Lyriope a very likeable character, and also a true Morelli, as the bastard child of Bryant she has always looked for acceptance, however, she must be careful to what she wishes for… In this first book she begins a journey of self discovery and awakening, the way she accepts and embraces her dark side is a testament to how strong she is.
Although this isn’t a retelling it definitely winks to the popular upside down world of Alice, I absolutely adored the dark accents and hints. I’m addicted to this new brand of crazy and I can’t wait for the next instalment. How silly of me to think I would have been able to face the cliffy with a graceful fall… my butt is sore I need to know what happens next like now ❤️🔥pretty please Alta 🥺

I love how these authors just keep on expanding the Midnight dynasty world and you just have to give kudos to them with the way they do it. I mean each and every character is covered, pretty much all the books are amazing and don't even get me started on the tropes they choose. like a dream come true.
I always love the craziness the morellis represent so when I knew that Bryant's daughter was getting a book, I was so excited. I started this one as soon as it dropped on my Kindle and was hooked. I have not read a lot of books by this author, just a few that I was recommended by bookish friends, but now I think I will be going through her book catalog and finding myself more books to read!
Definitely recommending this crazy tale of deals, darkness, anti heroes, obsession, possession and hate love to you all. The cliffhanger had me shook and omg am I the only dumb person who thought this one was a cliffhanger? 💀Anyways, I am so excited for the trilogy now as I am hooked will be reading them all .

We meet Lyriope Bailey, Bryant Morelli's illegitimate daughter, in Silver Bells. Unable to repay her severe debt to the Russian mob, Lyriope is fearing for her life. Crashing the Morelli's Christmas ball, she falls through the rabbit hole and meets The Mad Hatter, Nick Hudson.
Nick motherfucking Hudson, aka the Mad Hatter, with his private playground known as Wonderland. Nick is rich, making money by selling information, every man and woman who holds power in the underworld has gotten an invitation to attend an infamous tea party at Wonderland.
And now Nick has taken an interest in Lyriope, his Alice. He takes it upon himself to keep her safe from the Russian, but doing so he manages to You pissed off two powerful families by getting in the middle of the Morellis and Constantines.
When the first act of war comes, Lyriope knows that she should have never brought someone else into my mess and decides to free Nick from her and takes off.
The story is fast paced, told in dual POV alternating between Nick and Lyriope.
It's an amazing read, that ends on a cliffhanger! Can't wait for the next book in the series....

I was super intrigued when I read a snippet or what is now called PART I: THE WHITE RABBIT in the Meet Me Under The Mistletoe Anthology last year. I was hooked on Lyriope from the moment I started reading. Her sassy and defiant nature made me giddy with anticipation for her full story.
King of Spades is just the beginning of her journey and even tho I am overly #twitchy about the whole virginity for payment cliché circumstance, there is a lot more brewing in the background of this story that has my curiosity still peaked for more.
A couple of years ago I read my very first Alta book and it impressed me. Not just the story, but the characters and the development as well. I have high hopes for Nick and Lyriope and this trilogy and now that I’ve fully read the beginning of their journey I think Alta is going to blow us out of the water by the end and I cannot wait!

I wish I liked this book more than I did. I initially thought of reading it when it first came out but I decided to wait till the trilogy ended to dive in.
I've read most of the Midnight Dynasty with the exception of the books that aren't generally for me but of course you do really need to read any of them to understand everything.
This book mostly consisted of the MCs being attracted to each other and smut and I do no usually complain about it but I wanted more plot? I wanted a bit more substance to the story as I thought nothing really moved forward or happened.
I did love Nick though, he was such a cruelly fun character. For some reason the cane made him even more sinister (the cane is not a prop - he legit needs it after an accident). Something about him made you want to just keep reading despite the lack of story.

Wow, not sure what the hell I just read but I'm so here for all of it!! Holy dirty taking, possessive alpha Nick Hudson.....you'll want him in your life believe me you need him!!
This was my first book from Alta and it was everything I never knew I needed and then some but I need more and absolutely need the next book now because that ending.....ahhhhh!!
This book was dark, mysterious with a touch of suspense that I couldn't put down. After that ending I'm ready to see how Nick and Lyriope's story plays out!

I liked very much how the author proceed with this story and I liked how she used loosely "Alice in Wonderland" refferences!!!

Alta Hensley is a new to me story- but with this alluring cover and a story set in my very favorite fictional world, I was excited to dive into this very loosely reimagined Alice/Mad Hatter dark romance.
Our heroine is a secret Morelli- the illegitimate daughter of the notorious Bryant Morelli. (at this point, I’m pretty sure he has more illegitimate children than he has with his wife…turns our Bryant is quite the prolific baby maker). Despite being of Morelli blood, Lyriope has spent her life on the fringes of the society she longs to be part of, and she finds herself in a bit of trouble with some dangerous Russians. A chance encounter puts her in the path of the wealthy, manipulative peddler of secrets and passion- Nick Hudson. Owner of Wonderland, a sex club that’s more than just Nick’s playfround, it’s also the seat of his power. And he sets his eyes on the luscious Lyriope- her predicament the perfect leverage to corner her into an arrangement where he can explore her….literally.
I really wanted to love this story- it has all the makings of something I’d devour. And I did enjoy it- but not quite as much as I expected. The story feels like one we’ve read many times before- I’ve loved the unique flavor and spin the Midnight Dynasty world has brought to tired tropes, and while this is a trope I adore, nothing really grabbed me. Because it is a trilogy (something I did not know before reading), I found parts of it to move a bit slower than I expected- even though it’s not a particularly long story. The characters in and of themselves have some interesting characteristics, though they felt a bit one note- again, knowing now that this is a trilogy, I’m looking forward to their evolution and a bit more emotional exploration. Nick is the archetypal dark alpha, and Lyriope is the sassy, resilient heroine with more fight in her than defies logic. We explore the expected push-pull, why am I attracted to him aspect of the chemistry in this story- one that felt a bit drawn out, even in a shorter book. There is certainly the titillating quality that I do enjoy about this world - some taboo, some forbidden. The chemistry just hasn’t quite clicked for me…yet…though I’m hopeful to see how they progress.
All in all, an interesting beginning, and I’m hopeful that the rest of this story will break out of it’s familiar architecture, particularly since the twists and action at the end did capture me. A lot of exposition, but a lot of potential- excited to read more.

Lyriope and Nick Hudson's story was everything I was hoping it would be and a great start to what sounds like will be a dark and sexy trilogy!

There’s a mysterious vibe to it, that grabbed me from the first page. The story is really intriguing, and quite the page turner. This is one of those ones that had me at the edge of my seat. This author is new to me but I defiantly need to read more of her work!
This is a take on Alice and Wonderland, its eerie and mysterious, you are captivated by Nick the minute you meet him, I like getting to see his inner thoughts he’s definitely an enigma. The heroine I was also intrigued by, she’s do whatever is takes to survive, and I like that type of character. Over all this was a great start to this series. I definitely need to know what happens next! I need book 2!

After reading The White Rabbit, the prologue to King of Spades, I was eager to dive into the main story. I had high hopes of what would happen, and gladly jumped into the second part, The Mad Hatter. Although this one started strong, I found my feelings changed by the end.
This was certainly an interesting idea, one that had me curious to see what it added to the world. In fact, that was what kept me going. I was eager to see how everything would play in with the bigger picture, and I was intrigued by the Wonderland element of this one. Unfortunately, I was let down by the characters. The characters we were introduced to in part one seemed to be completely different characters to those in book two. In fact, there were several times where I felt like they’d forgotten about what had happened in the first part. Such a thing pulled me from the story, and by the end I was annoyed with the way they had acted. I feel most of it existed simply to allow the cliff-hanger to play out in the way it did.
All in all, this one had potential, but it wasn’t quite what I expected because of the way it seemed to change drastically between parts. I remain curious about the rest of the series – I am a big fan of the world it is set in – and my fingers are crossed things get back on track quickly.

Starting with the thing I kinda don't like. I don't like the whole plot with trading virginity for a favour. That's icky and tbh, too overrated.
Now, onto the best part. I like the Wonderland club setting. I like how possessive and yet clueless to his true feelings the hero is. The heroine is reckless and a little stupid though but there were times where she shone. I don't know why it work but it did.

Lyriope has gotten herself in a whole lot of trouble and the man who can help her and protect, may also be just as much trouble and dangerous.
Nick is ruthless, he is dark and dangerous and all sorts of addicting. His business is to know everyones business. I feel that there is still a lot to know about this man and a little of things hidden under a lot of layers. Lyriope is independent, but given her family she had to learn to fend for herself at a young age. She isn’t afraid, she full of fire and passion.
I love the back and forth banter between Nick and Lyriope. I love the passion that you can feel between the two of them. I can’t wait to see where things go with the two of them, because I know that whatever happens will be one twisted journey and I am here for it.
If you’re looking for a dark, anti-hero, age gap, enemies to lovers romance this is one to check out.

New to me author. I am really liking the storyline. While I know that Lyriope is trying to hard to take care of herself and be independent, she is failing miserably. Nick bails her out for the price of her virginity. Because she is a Morelli and he won't let her go, he seems to have gotten himself in the middle of their feud. Story ends on a cliffhanger. And I am more than ready to know what happens.... I only hope that in the next part of the story it gets spicier..... I am not going to lie.... that was the only disappointing thing to me.... but if you are a fan of @nal then you will love this book a lot!

As a devourer of the Midnight Dynasty Collection this story was quite boring! There are already enough series (at least 3 if I'm not making a mistake?) with the same premise: the FMC is taken hostage by the MMC; there is even another series in which the heroine allows herself to be held hostage for financial reasons; there is also another series about a second family kept in secret,..you get my point..although they are completely independent series, they are series from the same universe and therefore I'm getting bored bc I expected some diversity!
Lyriope is probably the FMC I liked the least so far. I don't like those typical characters who just do shit constantly but then demand a lot from others.
As foreplay, this book may be good but it doesn't even innovate in that: there is already an MMC in another series that has sex with FMC in every possible way without taking her virginity. 👀
I would have loved to have read more about Wonderland.

The ending pissed me off a LOT, what do you mean she has more than one bag to pack at ease!? what incompetent security teams have the MMCs of this collection? Yes, you got it right, there are other series in which the security is equally incompetent and after all, the hostages are able to leave the house easily..🙄
Lyriope is probably the FMC I liked the least so far. I don't like those typical characters who just do shit constantly but then demand a lot from others.
As foreplay, this book may be good but it doesn't even innovate in that: there is already an MMC in another series that has sex with FMC in every possible way without taking her virginity. 👀
I would have loved to have read more about Wonderland.

I can not wait for Queen of Hearts, will Lyriope find herself playing the role she had once thought to play or is she the one that is being played and by whom? It seems there are a few people who are interested in her. Has Nick played the wrong hand?

I initially didn't know this would be part of a series so I was actually caught off guard by the cliffhanger. This was an amazing, suspenseful read for me. I'm a lover of dark romance and this book delivers more than your fantasies could ever imagine. I read this in one sitting and safe to say, I'm in love with Nick ;) The spice, the plot, the characters all come together to give you a fast-paced romance book that will get you right out of a reading slump. I love the Alice in Wonderland themes incorporated within this book and I adored the wildness of each and every character here. The spice is hot and spectacular. I've read tons and tons of dark, smutty books and if you follow my reviews, I rate almost everything a 3 when it comes to spice so giving this one a 4 is saying something. Safe to say, you'll be hearing more from me after I read the next book ;)

Alta Hensley is the newest addition to the Midnight Dynasty world, and I can’t say I’m unhappy about it. I’m addicted to this world and am in awe of the authors continuously adding to it, seamlessly building on characters fleshed out by other authors in previous stories. It’s truly amazing.
Anyways, back to KING OF SPADES, which is the first instalment in Lyriope Bailey’s story – the secret daughter of Bryant Morelli. The story is rather simple – deeply indebted girl. Rich guy pays for said debt and demands her mind, body, and soul in return … well, that, and her a## apparently, lol.
Sexiness ensues, as well as the typical Morelli craziness that I love so much.
This was a fast-paced, easy read, with light references to Alice in Wonderland, perfect for lovers of crazy obsessive anti-heroes.

Nick Hudson is one nasty a$$ luvin MF! 😂
This guy seriously got my heart goes wild and my vajajay goes even wilder!
His dirty words, his kinky dominant way, his crazy possesiveness... Dayyyum my a$$ feel all his punishment smegsi and sing so loud! 😂 i have no shame of my game with this man🤦♀️😂
And Lyriope... First of all... İ have a mouthfull of her name😂
İ like her attitude in life, really. Wrong place to put her love toward her mom, vut how can we hate our own mom even she's a poison???
And to be a Morelli's bas***rd child? Dayyum i understand hee jeolousy yet the need to be known as the looser Morelli with strings of bad decision.
Fast pace, super hot with lots of steamy quotes, chemistry that just burn your from the first time they meet, anal anal anal and glorious anal, Alta Hensley is one nasty lady with this book, and me luv lt! 😍😋
