Dangerous Ties #1

Opening Danger

Rate this book
I wanted the quiet life - coffee on the front porch reading a good book - kind of life. And when it came to danger, or any type of confrontation, whether from former boyfriends or nasty pink faeries, I tried to avoid it. This time though? I couldn't escape it. I’m being dragged toward danger by a handsome, jerk of a werewolf who calls himself Evander.

It doesn’t matter what I say to Evander, what I have or haven’t done, it only matters what I have in my possession – a key. And because this stupid hunk of metal, my death awaits me.

In order to bring an end to this bullshit, I must convince Evander to help me. With his help, I can absolve my name. If not, then death for me is certain.

Opening Danger is an enemy to lovers slow burn paranormal romance where sex is guaranteed in book 2 so don't hate me because you were warned.

This is fierce and fast paced and will keep you flipping through these addictive pages! The world buildings is absolutely phenomenal and is some of the best I've ever read. If Paranormal Romance is your jam with a bit of a plot twist or two, you're going to want to read this, right now! The chemistry between the main characters, Zuri and Evander is delightful and delicious.  Watching the push and pull between them, the will they or won't they, kept me captivated to these unputdownable pages.

Zuri has a heart of gold. She's had a rough childhood and is getting over a breakup. When things start to look up, who can she trust? She's surrounded by dangerous foes in a dangerous world with no idea what they want with her.

When Evander rescues her (swoon) he's both unwelcome and a distraction.  He's gruff and annoyed but what's really driving him? He feels his attraction for Zuri building and its less than ideal for him. He's a wolf shifter who is out for vengeance.

When these two are forced together will they start to see each other differently? Will they reach for the stars and dream of more? Or will they crash and burn? Read this beautiful book to find out! It's one that you won't be setting aside because you're going to want to see what will happen next! E.A. Shanniak is entertaining and hilarious. This is one quotable book that will leave you begging for more.

“Absolutely fantastic!!! I’m in love with this first part. Not gonna lie the whole ‘not sm*t’ until book two was disappointing the tension between them was h*t enough! Everything started kind of weird and confusing that’s for sure but slowly the pieces were staring to fall in place somehow. I still have lots of questions but others that were so important to understand why certain person acted that way and… point it they were solved. You can expect lots of twists and turn and zero time to recover. I’m looking forward to see how the relationship will develop, the feelings, the connection and of course all the secrets.”

This is a face pace book with good developed characters and world. It is hard to set it down, so be ready to read straight through. You have wolf shifters and other paranormals. The plot twists keep you guessing from beginning to end. The main characters are Zuri and Evander(wolf) and the dynamics between them are great. There are a lot of unanswered questions to make you need the next book or more and a cliffhanger ending to make you almost impassionate for book two.

This book is an absolutely amazing paranormal romance and the start of the series. Zuri and Evander have this chemistry that is absolutely sensational and the rollercoaster between the two keeps you captivated.

Zuri is an innocent human who even after a rough start in life and a horrendous ex still is loyal and has a big heart of gold. She decides to get the house she has been wanting and tries to change her life for the better when things start to go for the worse. Evander sweeps into her life and constantly saves her each time there is danger lurking around the corner. He's attracted to her yet he has a secret to avenge his family's death and her parents are responsible.

Will Evander's attraction for Zuri outweigh his need for revenge? Will there attraction collide and a steamy and fantastic explosion? Will Evander get his revenge? If you have a love for paranormal werewolve romances this one is for you.

This is my first paranormal book by E. A. Shanniak. I have read a regency romance by her and I loved her writing style so I thought Would give this book a go.

I do love a great paranormal book and this one was no different. The story follows Zuri who is a young 20ish, human female lIving on her own in a town where paranormals all hate humans. She purchases a home outside of the city to get a way from her problems. One of those is being cheated on and dumped by the local alpha leaders son. Zuri is strong though and knows that she can make it on her own. What she doesn't know is that she is in possession of an artifact that every paranormal being would kill to get a hold of it. How will Zuri survive being a lone female with no family to help her?

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the beginning of this series. This is book one of the Dangerous Ties series. This book intrigued me from the start and I could not put it down. The action and comedic dialog were such a fun and different content to read and kept me engaged in this story. I loved how strong Zuri was even though she was vulnerable. She did not let being human in a paranormal city stop her from anything. The attitude and snarly comebacks in this book were amazing. I loved the banter that Zuri could evoke from each Character Including Evander. Poor Evander....Zuri would not give him a break and I loved their relationship and how they built it to mean something special. This book leaves on a crazy cliffhanger but lucky for me it is a completed series. I truly loved this book and cannot wait to see what E. A. Shanniak comes up in the next 2 books. You can bet my next dollar that I will be devouring those as well. I give this book 5 stars

I don't normally review books I'd give less than three stars. However, I was incredibly frustrated with this story's plot and the author's writing.

I understand that good people can be forced into bad decisions; however, that is not an acceptable excuse for the "hero" in this tale. I found him weak and cowardly. Additionally, the MC's acceptance of the abuse she was constantly dealt made me angry. I didn't find it in any way admirable.

Pacing is also an issue, because characters are very inconsistent within a short time frame. Something that I'd normally see with people who are being described as possessed or mentally unstable. Only that's not the dynamic these characters seem to be expressing. Besides pacing, there are also events, circumstances, etc. that are mentioned but don't appear to actually further the plot. For example, it's like having an author spend a lot of time describing a necklace only to never have the necklace brought up or mentioned ever again. Many times as I read, I wondered "what is the point of this happening?"

Finally, there are always typos of some kind in books, and I can usually ignore them...unless they are some strange phrasing that is repeated continuously. Then I just want to stop reading altogether. So, I beg the author to please, for the love of God, stop with eyebrow "perking"! The last half of the book was so full of these and condescending smirks, they became an annoying irritant. They also made eery character appear incapable of any real sincerity.

All in all, the book had a decent ideas, but the technical execution was lacking.

intriguing!

What a way to start a series! PS I love the name Zuri! Her and Evander are opposites in so many ways, yet we all know opposites attract lol. I won’t lie- my heart constantly breaks for Zuri. I want to hug her. And yet she is so resilient. She’s cautious and still has a good heart. So does Evander even if he’s trying to hide it. He pretends to be the meanie well. I like him. I really do hope they end up together with the happily ever after…. After saving the world lol. There’s so many little plots leading to the big one unraveling. I’m intrigued and I’ll be jumping straight into book 2!

Couldn’t Get Past the Long Blond Curls…

I tried to get past the amateur writing thinking it might get better since the beginning plot was feasible but when the writer uses the “looking in the mirror” technique to describe the main character after we’ve already read about her long blond hair etc etc, I stop right there. This writer shows a lot of promise but needs a critical advisor.

Paranormal romance

The first book in a series the author does a good job fleshing out details about the main characters and describing what is going on in the story. I find the strong female character very compelling and love the supernatural elements. I found the book hard to put down and finished it quiet quickly and found myself bummed at the cliff hanger. What is next?!

The only b reason this isn't five stars is that I HATE endings that leave me hanging.

Otherwise, I read this from cover to cover without putting it down.
Excellent mysteries woven through... More than one.
Complex, but keeps your attention.
A story that keeps you on edge... Wanting to know what happens next.
And delightfully well written characters. Well worth the read!

A intriguing start

I read. Another of werewolf and paranormal novels and something about this one is different. There's some tropes that are kinds the same of course but overall it feels fresh and the romance pacing is very nice!

Boring

Boring definitely not a romance. I skipped to the last chapter and finally just gave up. The plot was week and the hero was dull and the heroine acted like.a deprived child. I really tried to like this book but it’s just so slow place and no romance at all.

Thankfully, the last 30% picked up and took us somewhere. I can honestly say I'd happily read the next book to see where it takes Zuri and Evander.

Detest cliffhanger endings! No matter what I think about a book as I read if I hit a cliffhanger I might as well have never read the book.

Reader beware - only part of a story

I enjoyed the story but i'm tired of hugh cliffhangers. Read it but be aware that there are many story lines that remain unanswered at the end of the book. I would have given it five stars but with as many cliffhangers that are packed into this ending, it's only half of a book, so it only deserves half of a rating.
