This was an absolutely riveting read! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and my thanks go to Darcy Armstrong for writing such a wonderful story for us to read. Ewan is such a swoon worthy hero with so much honour and Paislee is a feisty heroine who will do everything to save her farm.

From the prologue to the epilogue, my attention was caught and I didn't want to put the book down!! Paislee's neighbours were absolute fiends and after what she endured because of them had me cheering on Ewan when he arrives to help her out. Violence is not always the right answer but sometimes it's the only thing left to do, as Paislee finds out.

Well written and definitely deserving of a 5 star rating. I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

He’s tall, devastatingly handsome, and has pledged his sword to protect her. But this soldier has a secret…

Paislee McNair has found herself in a spot of bother.

After running her late husband’s farm for fifteen years, she’s become embroiled in a bitter feud with her neighbours. They steal her cattle with impunity, and she’s forced to watch her livelihood disappear before her very eyes.

The laird can’t help, and so against the neighbour’s brazen cruelty, Paislee has nowhere left to turn.

Until a mysterious soldier rides into her life and pledges his sword.

Falling under the protection of a ruggedly attractive captain? It seems the perfect solution to more than one of her problems.

Except Ewan Abercrombie has a secret.

So now, Paislee must ask herself how much of the past is she willing to forgive, if it means saving her future? And that’s without even mentioning the decidedly more immediate dilemma posed by Ewan himself, as she discovers what the only thing worse than forgiving old enemies could be…

The gist of the story is that the hero is an enemy of sorts. Will he become a friend in spite of this? Will he become a lover?

Being the 5th book in the Legacy of the Laird series, I had originally thought it would be a slow read, doubling back on other characters making a more difficult, tired read. I couldn’t be more wrong, this is definitely written as a stand alone book which pleases me and also make me curious about other books in the series.

A Wrong to Set Right is a sweeping Scottish romance by best-selling author Darcy Armstrong. Absolutely no cheating, no loose ends, and a satisfying Happily-Ever-After.

Ms. Armstrongs writing style flows over the pages making for an enjoyable weekend read. I do recommend this book to friends of the genre.

I really enjoyed this book with its pure Scottish heart and fight.
I felt really heartbroken when we discover the unknown soldier who Ewan watched die had a wife and child.
He most likely begged for that very reason and I think this highlights the fact death stays in the mind of the soldier.
A very realistic story that features a brave and strong woman who accepts help in defending what is hers.
The massive secret kept can only bring pain to all involved so it is understandable why Ewan keeps it until he can't anymore.
Love always complicates such a situation but I enjoyed the blossoming relationship between the two mains.
His raw masculinity is perfectly described and I can form the imagery in my mind, which is the sign of an excellent author in my opinion.
A true gem that shows the reader the hardships and harsh reality of a time gone by.

I really enjoy the fact that this story is of two "older" people; not the typical early twenties that we usually get to read. It was a pleasure to be back with some characters that we had previously met too. A tragedy that has happened years ago brought our lovebirds together. Paislee has had to survive widowhood, raising her child alone as well as taking care of her farm with few hands to help. Now, Ewan is here to help her solve her problems, and they are many. Ewan is as good as they get, selfless, with a heart of gold and honour bound to right what he perceives as a wrong. Paislee had to hardened herself to get through her hardships and she does not trust easily. Secrets, treasons, heartbreak and wisdom coming from an unlikely person will finally open Paislee's eyes and heart to Ewan. A nice read!

What a wonderful addition to the "Legacy of the Laird" series. It is a stand alone read that was very captivating. I love the characters and the historical plot is fascinating and intriguing. This is an adult read about Paislee and Ewan. She needs help with her awful neighbors. He is there to make amends for something he did as a youth. He has pledged his sword to help and protect her. What will happen when she knows the truth? This is such a good read from beginning to end.

Another well written story of love and hardship in this world. I have read other books set in this area and I was pleased to see some of those characters and locations again. I will have to admit that the first couple of chapters had me a bit confused but after that I found the book hard to put down. It was a very emotive read. I look forward to more of these books.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Paislee and Ewan. The author does a terrific job taking you back to the day in this Scottish Highlander romance with her detailed and descriptive scenes. She does a beautiful job developing the story and pulled me in with the intense story line. It flows fluidly and is an entertaining read. Loved and recommend this book.

He became her hero but he has a secret.

This book has a great mystery for the heroine to solve. It is the background of the man who she has come to admire.
There is a lot of revealing emotion for the hero. And a really disgusting neighbor who the Laird can't touch due to lack of evidence.
It is really a book worth reading.!

Paislee is a widowed single mom taking care of her farm alone but her cruel neighbors keep stealing her animals and causing trouble for her. When Ewan shows up to help her not only with her neighbors but also with her farm she is happy to have his help. This is a sweet story set in medieval times about two people who have suffered the loses of war but when they meet their lives take a new turn.

A good story with a lot going on. Written from the POV of both main characters.

Ewan, a soldier raised to be a captain in McPhee's army. As a young soldier, he attends a massacre of McCaskills soldiers. He himself stiffened as a soldier ran away, but one of his fellow soldiers shot a young man. Ewan still has this in mind after 15 years and decides to make a clean sweep by looking for deceased relatives. That's how he meets Paislee McNair.

Paislee is having trouble with her neighbor who steals livestock from her. She goes to her laird to ask for help against her neighbor. The Laird can't help her, however, but asks Ewan to go with Paislee. Also because she and her daughter are the survivors of the young man he saw murdered.

The sexual banter between the two is beautifully portrayed and you can feel that things are going to change between the two. It took a while to get there, but it also fits well into the story.

The devious way in which the neighbors continue to intimidate provide tense moments in the story. Paislee is strongly against violence and wants to solve it differently, but violence seems to be the only solution.

Ewan, a character who has always been surrounded by war and death and despite that comes across as a teddy bear.

Paislee, busy with her farm and raising her daughter, never considered letting another man into her life again. Her independence is her strength but also her pitfall. Not asking for help can get expensive as she notices

A good story. Recommended

Captain Ewan Abercrombie was the Captain of the McPhees, he still had the signet ring of the first man he watched die. It was so hard on him. He did not have the time to marry and be a father. He decided to take the ring to the wife. But first, he had to find out who he was. So he got two weeks and went to the McCaskill.

While he waited to meet the Laird, he talked to an intriguing woman. Her name was Paislee McNair.
She had a farm a half days ride from Dun Lagaidh She was a farmer, mother, employer, and she had some nasty neighbors. She also had two workers who lived with her. The Geddes brothers, Keaton and Brodie. They worked hard for her but then everyone did. Then there was her beloved daughter, Brigid. They raised cattle and sheep and some crops.

This was a marvelous story of two lonely people and being threatened by the McFarrell that lives next door. I think it is a story of hope and enemies falling in love. It is an intriguing tale and has a lot of action. The characters are charismatic and endearing. It keeps your attention and is entertaining. It is like they are in a Catch-22. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. I loved the book.

I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Ewan was the perfect alpha hero. I really admired his unwavering dedication to Paislee and her family, as well as his commitment to being honorable and making moral decisions. He was willing to give up everything to be with Paislee, and his instant attraction and respect for her was extremely romantic. Paislee was also a noteworthy character with her hardworking nature and desire for peace.

The beginning was a bit slow, and there were parts when the story was somewhat repetitious. However, there was plenty of excitement and suspense, and the climax was well written with a good heap of danger. I did wish, after everything the family went through, there was a more in-depth conclusion. There seemed to still be some loose ends in Paislee and Ewan’s relationship.

Overall, this was a historical romance full of intrigue, emotion, and passion. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily read more by this author.

Darcy Burke’s “A Wrong to Set Right” A Scottish Highlander Romance (Legacy of the Laird Book 5)

My favorite book of this series so far! Yes this book had the romance aspect, but the overall suspense of the plot had me reading this in one day.

Even though I had read the previous two books, each book could still be read on it's own since being a completely independent story other than recognizing some characters. I was so happy that Ewan got his own story.

This book had it all from the past McPhee/McCaskill War memories, to a severe neighborly dispute, and of course a steamy romantic portion. I really feel like you get to know the characters in all of Darcy's books and this one was no exception.

I definitely left this book wanting more in a good way. I definitely want to read more in the series!

An insightful page- turner romance!

Set in medieval Scotland the book reveals us a world of struggle for survival doubled by the inner turmoil lived by the two protagonists, Ewan a troubled worrior with a secret to keep, and Paislee a widowed farm- owner who fights for the her property which ensures her independence. Sworn to protect her from a sense of guilt, Ewan is willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he came to love. Taken by surprise by the strength of the feelings she has developed for Ewan, Paisley has only one wish: to find out the secret he is keeping from her. An emotional love story between two troubled souls who find love and the power to forgive. I loved it!

Well worth the read.
Darcy's writing is like quick sand to me. You're just reading along enjoying the story and then all of a sudden you're sucked in and can't get out. I was so hooked that I couldn't put it down until I found out what happened.
I love that the stories aren't your typical H/h. You will get a wide variety of characters to interest everyone and never get bored.

Captain Ewan was definitely a man after my heart in this story. Powerful but not afraid to show a softer side.

Beautifully written!

Ewan and Paislee.

Ewan Abercrombie is the MacPhee captain. He has held a secret for 15 years but a near death experience has him wanting to make amends. He heads north to MacCaskill land to make an apology to the family of the first man he ever saw die and to return something he took from him. Paislee is the widow of that man. The MacCaskill laird has asked Ewan to help her in another way as well to settle the threats presented by her neighbor. That brings more challenges than expected as well as a sense of belonging he has never felt before.

A very good book and yet painful because of how the invents unfold but which also lends to the excitement of the book. A real page turner that you can not afford to put down. Paislee suffered at the hands of her neighbour for a long time until the arrival of Ewan to help, though he had his own agenda, which when it came out almost destroyed the beautiful thing that had developed between them.

Loved this book!
Shows that we all have double standards and sometimes somebody can proof you wrong!
Ewan is the Hero wit his own motivations from the past, and Paisley is the one in need of help and justice although she does not want to admit it.
Love the writing style from the perspectives of the main characters. And at the end we are all rooting for love ofcourse!
