This “Breaking News” about Xander Turner hardly deserves such a title. Then again, the mere mention of Xander’s name has always made my ladybits tingle, no matter that he never gave me a second glance when we were in school. But when the news anchor announces he’s out of the high-profile marketing position in his now-infamous family’s business, my wayward thoughts shift to my struggling PR agency. I want him. Ahem, to save my firm.
Much to my shock, Xander accepts my job offer. Not only does his sexy face and business savvy bring in the clients, but he adds a layer of fun and creativity I hadn’t expected. He even makes the transition from uptown shark to downtown employee seem effortless. Soon I come to realize that Xander’s more than just his looks. A hell of a lot more.
When the paparazzi catch wind of our unlikely pairing, will their ruthless pursuit give my agency more exposure, or will NYC’s dog-eat-dog media industry tear apart all we’ve built?
For as long as Arell Rivers remembers, she has been lost in a book. During her senior year in college, she picked up a romance novel … and instantly was hooked.
She started writing her first novel, No One to Hold, because the characters were screaming at her to do so. The story started coming out in Arell’s dreams and attacking her in the shower, so she took to the computer to shut them up. But they kept talking.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Arell has what some may call a “checkered past.” Prior to discovering her passion for writing romance, she practiced law, was a wedding and event planner and even dabbled in marketing. She lives with a very supportive husband and two mischievous cats. When not in her writing cave, Arell can be found making dinner in the crock pot, working out with Shaun T or hitting the beach.
She hopes you enjoy her stories about flawed men, strong women and the passions that ignite!

The chemistry between Xander and Madison was HOT HOT!! Like what you see here and want to know more, well then your truly need to read Pride by Arell Rivers!! I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of "Sins of the Fathers" from Arell Rivers.
What an interesting, insightful, and wonderful story about Xander and Madison - two opposites, two different worlds that collide. I thought that it will be just a love story between two people that usually don't go together...but no... it was much more. One beautiful rich man is getting attracted with Madison who is good in her job, laid back, but so insecure because of her face skar. We see how their story develops and I found myself rooting for them while reading. Arell is a new author for me and I will read her again for sure. I like her storytelling, her way of building the characters that are perfect. I highly recommend this book to all readers who love to read stories about opposites and people who are getting over their insecurities
Worlds apart. Uptown, downtown. Beautiful people, facial scars. The world can be cruel but no one is harder on us than ourselves.
Pride is more than a love story. It's an insightful journey into the way our past shapes who we are in the present and how the right person can challenge our deepest beliefs about ourselves and our place in the world.
Arell Rivers does a fabulous job with dual points of view, showing us the inner thoughts, feelings and fears of real, well developed characters as they grow closer. This book has it all and then some: angsty, steamy, friends to lovers, opposites attract, paparazzi, ziplining and wolves..all set in and around fabulous New York City!
Madison and Xander are perfect for one another. They complete each other. They both didn’t realize what they were missing until they got together. M never felt worthy of BP. Always hiding her face and was insecure. But Xander found out they beauty is also what’s inside and he thought M was so beautiful. Xander also never felt confident in his work. Was never told how well he did. He hungered for acceptance. These two were able to fill each other’s voids. Xander helped M overcome her fears and M helped Xander become more confident in his work. We met Xander in Angry and my heart went out to him then. I was so glad he got his story and his HEA. Arell did an amazing job writing about insecurities and how to become a better person. She also described certain landmarks to the point it felt like you were right there too. I’d love to be able to meet a “Sheriff” one day because of how she presented him to us. Just a great book all around that I definitely recommend.
We all have our own issues and insecurities. Such things are dealt with beautifully in this story. When you find someone who believes in you more than you believe in yourself, it lifts your confidence up and helps you to achieve more than you ever thought possible. I can't get enough of stories where the main protagonists have a positive, kind attitude and personality that uplifts those around them. Arell has captured that perfectly with Madison and Xander. I can't help but think she's injected a little of her quirkiness into Madison's sense of humour which was beautiful. I really enjoyed this one.
What a refreshing book to read where the female lead is not what you usually expect in a book. She has her flaws and is not runway model ready or constantly in the path of cameras that watch their every move. Madison is more comfortable behind the scenes than in front of them. Xander's world has imploded over the current hot trend when his father and his partners are arrested at the Tinsel and Tatas Gala and then being dumped just after getting engaged to the societies version of a perfect girl.
They both have their insecurities but they both found that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and looks don't always mean they are the wrong or right person. These 2 are total opposites but as we all know that some opposites attract as Paula Abdul would say. I just loved this one also at how by working together they were able to find their true selves and be comfortable in who they are.
Thank you Arell Rivers for writing their story and I hope there are more of them like it in the future.
Xander and Madison have a great steamy read. I love how Madison was a "normal" girl and found her easy to relate to with natural insecurities. Xander is the steamy alpha who left me swooning. Their story is a good read and comes together in a natural pace and I would definitely recommend as a beach read.
This is a story that gets you to look beyond in so many ways. It’s story of self discovery, hurtful truths, introspection, true love and what you’re willing to endure for love, love of self and love for others.
I don’t do spoilers because that is unfair to the author and to you. You deserve to get full enjoyment. However, this book deep dives into some serious matters and what people take for granted on all sides. The thing I found amazing is sometimes we don’t even realize what we actually have to offer until we need to deep dive into ourselves and get out from under. We allow others to form our opinions of ourselves.
There’s a saying that Beauty is only skin deep. Well I refute that. True beauty shines within first and then without. Sometimes like a diamond you need to wipe away the dirt and let the sparkle shine through. There’s a beauty in everything. There is definitely beauty in Xander and Madison!
I love a leading lady who doesn't fit what society defines as beautiful. Madison is short, doesn't wear a size 0 and has scars on both the inside and outside. Beyond the physical, she is a force to be reckoned with - whip smart, successful business woman, good daughter, sister and friend. She has her own PR firm in New York and after one of her reps leaves she has an opening to fill.
Xander is one of the beautiful people - tall, dark, handsome, rich. He is dealing with not only the fallout from his failed relationship and very brief engagement to a prominent woman from a powerful family but also the decline of the family business. After his father and uncles are arrested and placed on house arrest Xander does what he can to manage the business but as trustees are put in place, he is out of a job. Xander has worked on the advertising side but has never had the freedom to demonstrate his full potential or creativity.
Madison and Xander both went to the same business school and after running into each other at an event they realize that perhaps there is an opportunity that will suit both of them. Xander accepts a job at Madison's firm and realizes quickly that it is unlike the working environment he is used to. It's in a "lesser" part of town, the dress code is much more casual then he is used to and gone is the high rise office. What he does find is an atmosphere of collaboration and encouragement where he can be more than what he was working for his father.
Madison recognizes his potential and encourages it. Through their working together the two find themselves drawn to each other and develop a relationship that others consider "Xander slumming" while he gets his life together. The press is relentless and impacts the two of them but the real story here is whether two people who seem so different from each other can survive and thrive in spite of the world seemingly trying to tear them apart.
I really loved Xander's growth in this story. When we meet him in the previous books he seems somewhat conflicted about following his father's instructions from what to wear to who to marry. In this story he gets to figure out who he wants to be and become that person. Madison has tremendous growth as well. For too long she has literally hid her scars for fear of what others might say or think. While in the business world she is confident, in private she is anything but. Xander brings out a side of her where she can shine.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have not read a book by Arell Rivers I have not fallen in love with. Her writing is spectacular. Her characters are so real. You feel everything they are feeling. You cry with them and for them. You want to protect them. It takes a special author to create characters that are unlikable in the beginning and have you falling in love with them by the end. Xander is that character for me. He was an “uptown guy,” and Madison was a “downtown” girl. So opposite of what he usually dated or became involved with. Looked on the outside but never looked beneath. After being forced to leave his job at VOW- cubed he accepts a position at Madison’s PR firm. Of course, he had no intention of staying there since her firm was located downtown. It was like he was slumming it. But the more he worked there he realized how wrong he was. From the atmosphere in the office to the people in the office he truly came to see what an amazing company Madison ran. She was polite, warm, encouraging, and so much more. For once in his life his ideas were praised and celebrated. Madison felt she wasn’t good enough for Xander. After all, they came from opposite sides. His family was very rich, their social standing was completely opposite. She was not perfect. Not someone he was always surrounded by. His ex -fiancé had the looks, body and social standing. Everything Madison felt she lacked. These two characters felt they were undeserving for the other for different reasons. But what they found out was they were perfect for each other. They complemented each other. You could not help rooting for them to both realize what they were to each other and finally admit they belonged together. Once they peeled away the layers keeping them apart, they were free to love each other and have their happily ever after. Xander helped Madison with those layers. He showed her that her beauty was not only skin deep. She was worthy of love and affection. Her scar should be a badge of honor and her accomplishments should be something to be proud of. A woman coming from a small town in Kansas to New York City to open up her own PR company. Not many people would have the courage to attempt something like that. Madison showed Xander that he should not suffer for his father’s sins. When he worked for his father, he was never given the recognition that he deserved. He only did what his father told him what to do, even who to marry. Xander’s ideas were never taken seriously. His father and the other to partners did what they wanted. Working for Madison enabled him to shine and show what he was capable of if given the chance. If only I could give this story beyond the 5 stars. Truly a phenomenal read by a very talented author.
Pride, Book 3 in the Sins of the Fathers series is a misnomer. If anything, it should be called “Integrity”. Here’s why: Xander Turner is a man who has had his business “legs” cut out from him. With his father and uncle arrested for embezzlement and falsifying “the books” the family PR/magazine business has been radically changed, and he has been subsequently fired. Looking for a job for the first time, he has had to fend for himself and not rely of the family business of which he had been groomed. His friend suggests Madison’s PR firm. Initially he is incredulous, however as he identifies with Madison’s business support and direction, he sees that this is perhaps the void he has been missing. He provides the professional background, energy and positive spin to win accounts for his new firm. For once, the goodness in him prevails. He is focusing on others and being a team member. Madison owns a “downtown” Brooklyn PR firm—very grassroots—she is a self-made woman owning and running a small business. She is more of a wholesome soul who has many doubts about herself as a woman, with her stockier body and facial scar; has doubts about how she comes across to others. Her business is in need of a “closer” for presentations, and when her friend suggests Xander, it’s difficult for her to believe he would be interested in working for her. Madison offers solid support to her employees and their success and it’s just what Xander needs. This is romance, so of course their relationship develops, albeit tempered because of their working relationship and Madison’s view of herself and her disfigurement. Added to this is the tabloid intervention with Xander’s social standing and familial issues as well as the tabloid’s assumptions around Madison. As they better identify with each other’s emotional needs during this stressful time, they grow stronger in themselves. If you haven’t read the previous books, Vice and Anger, you’ll still enjoy the story and want to hunt(e)* down the previous books. Arell Rivers has put together an endearing story. *Note: Hunte was the main character in Arell River’s Hunte Family Rock Star series! What can I say—I’m a fan!

Loved Xander and Madison's story. I was immediately hooked from the first few page's. There was just something so special with their story it's difficult to find the words. They come from extremely different families and are quite different. But somehow they just work. Their journey wasn't easy, but was so incredibly worth it.
Xander seemed to shoulder the brunt of the fallout that encompassed the scandal of his family’s business. As an employee who has never been afforded the opportunity to truly shine & prove his worth in this company, there’s little he can do to salvage the damage his father & uncles have created. When he removes himself from the business, he accepts a job to work for a former business school classmate, Madison. Best decision he could have ever made. This job is nothing like his previous one. It’s laid back, casual, & has the working atmosphere with a sense of family where everyone works as a team to the best outcome. Much more so than when he actually worked for family. Once Xander & Madison start working closely with each other, it’s evident that their chemistry is off the charts. Despite the societal expectations of a man of his status, Xander takes this time to discover who he is without the constant instructions & demands of his father. I love how Xander & Madison both play a pivotal roll in helping the other see their true worth & beauty despite any downfalls or imperfections. This couple may have taken a while to get there, but they were made for each other. Can’t wait for more!!
As the story begins, Xander Turner finds himself without a job. He has been asked to leave by the head of VOW-cubed’s creditor’s committee. Madison Welch knew him in college, and figures he would make a good ‘face’ and pitch person for her own fledgling PR agency. Xander decides to take the job until he learns a few things and decides to move back uptown to start his own agency. It turns out that Madison treats all of her employees with dignity and respect, and actually listens to them and makes them feel like valued members of a team. This is a new concept for Xander, as he has been taken for granted and pitted against others for his whole career. It also turns out that Xander appreciates this approach and grows to like it and to feel like he is contributing something valuable to the team. The lines get blurry when Xander and Madison start seeing each other. Madison has a bit of a confidence issue after a pit bull attack that happened to her when she was five, and left a visible scar on her face. The scar happens to be internal as well, as classmates teased her all through school and made her feel ugly for having a scar. Because of her mistreatment by others, Madison has a heart of gold, listens well to ideas from her team, and has the empathy to see the good in others and to appreciate them for it. When the press gets wind of their dating relationship, things start to get more challenging for both of them.
This story will pull readers in get them invested in the outcome. However, just like a slow motion wreck that you can’t look away from, readers will know that something is going to happen at some point in this story that will be painful to observe. Nevertheless, these protagonists eventually get their HEA ending after a bit of angst. You will have to read the story to find out the juicy details, and get your own enjoyment from this delightful story that has a few unexpected twists and turns. The ending is wonderful, and contains a bonus epilogue that readers can request.
Pride Sins of the Father #3 Arell Rivers The sins of the fathers reverberate around like a glass shattering on tiles, the pieces flying everywhere. Xander is hung out to dry just by trying to hold the family business together. Madison’s PR firm is in need of an injection of charisma, a pitch person to sell her brilliant ideas. Xander is all uptown NYC complete with the inbuilt snobby attitude, he doesn’t necessarily mean to, but he thinks he is so far above the common people who work and live beyond his elite bubble. When he sets his sights on Madison he has to question all he holds dear. Thank goodness for personal growth! A character driven story that can be read as a stand-alone novel with hea, but for the full understanding it is best read in order. I received an arc of this book. 4 stars
Pride by Arell Rivers is the 2nd book in her interrelated work romance series. It is about Xander, who was forced to leave his job at a family magazine by the new person who took over the business once the company was in bankruptcy. A friend of Xander recommended him to go to work for a fellow college alumnus, Maddison, once she recruited him for a position in her PR company. Pride can be arrogant when it looks down on others or a confidence builder by being proud of one's accomplishments. He only took a new position, thinking he would garner the skills needed to snag more prestigious clients than Maddison's firm. When Xander first arrived to begin his new job, he only saw glaring differences: • Old Uptown Office vs. New Downtown Office. • Former office on 12th floor with a view vs. new office on 5th floor with a view of another building. • Xander's Manhattan home vs. Maddison's Brooklyn home. As time passes, Maddison's reaffirmation of Xander's quality of work begins a transformation from being "prideful" with an arrogant attitude to someone who begins to feel real pride when accomplishing work others notice. Maddison has her baggage and demons she deals with, but with her kindness and heart of gold, she grows on Xander. Their love story is swoon-worthy! Their romance unfolds despite pride interfering with Xander and Maddison's views on life. Arell Rivers delivers another must-read romance!
If you read ANGER, you are ready for PRIDE! We met a few of these characters in the previous book and learned about the founders of VOW3. A standalone, but in an interconnected series (I highly recommend reading ANGER first).
Xander and Madison met in school and now have a working relationship. I loved how both of them became their best selves when they work together. And of course, their attraction to each other while trying to keep it professional in the office.
Great book and I am excited to see what is next! One of my top MUST READ authors.
Pride by Arell Rivers is the third book in the Sins of the Father Series. Book One was featured in the Tinsel and Tatas Anthology for Breast Cancer. Pride is much better than the second book Anger in my humble opinion.
Most of the characters were introduced in previous books with the exception of Madison. Madison's character development is absolutely wonderful and she is one of my favorite heroines. Madison is written extremely well, she is very believable and lovable. She will hook you into the story immediately. Madison's face was badly scarred by a dog bite at the age of 5. She has had self esteem issues her whole life because of it and her feeling that she is too heavy. She is super smart and an excellent business woman. She started and runs a successful but smaller PR firm right out of Business School.
Xander is introduced to Madison at a Business School function by one of his best friends. After being forced to leave the family business VOW- Cubed, being unemployed and unable to even get interviews, he decides to slum it and interview with Madison. He is surprisingly impressed by her company and accepts a position even though it means travelling all the way downtown. At first, he thinks he will learn what he can so he can open his own firm uptown but quickly falls in love with the company atmosphere and the brilliant owner. It is wonderful watching Xander's whole attitude and outlook change as he sees how real people behave and treat one another.
Madison's company suffers for a while due to Xander's notoriety causing much angst but watching them overcome their issues and struggles makes for a great book. I look forward to the next book in the series to see how the Double Wedding plays out and learn more about Paige and Jesse.
I absolutely loved this book. It is number 3 in Arell Rivers Sins of the Fathers Series. This book features Xander Turner and Madison Welch who went to the same business school. Xander and Madison are wonderful characters even though they are such polar opposites, he is uptown and she is downtown. Xander comes from big money although his father, owner of a company called VOW-cubed, is embroiled in some very questionable business dealings. Infact his father is wearing an electronic monitoring device around his ankle, and because of the problems at VOW3 Xander has lost his job. Madison is the owner of a small but successful PR company in Brooklyn. She is very lacking in confidence, not least because of an incident that happened when she was a child. Madison actually offers Xander a job and is quite surprised when he accepts it. When they start to work together, sparks begin to fly. I highly recommend this book even if you haven't read the first two books. I received an arc of this book and have given an honest review.
Madison is building her PR business in NYC - a long way from her childhood in Kansas and the traumatic childhood dog bite that left aa permanent mark. Xander was born into affluence but his set adrift when he quits his job after a scandal involving his dad and uncles. When he starts working for Madison, he finds his true calling in PR. As their professional relationship grows, so does their person one but the press coverage is challenging for both of them. Can their new relationship survive the scrutiny?
I liked both of the characters in this book. Aside from the romance, it centers a lot on overcoming your fears and not listening to outside voices trying to tear you apart. I have read the other books in this series but you would not need to to enjoy this book.
Book 2 in the Sins of the Fathers series, this is a tale of growth, realising your own worth and learning to have pride in yourself.
Having grown up with wealth and privilege, Xander is a bit of an 'uptown' snob. However the persona he shows to the world hides a lot of insecurities and low self-esteem arising from a lifetime of trying to please his father.
Madison is a 'downtown' girl running her own successful PR agency but hiding herself from the world. She has her own issues stemming from an incident in her early childhood.
Without giving too much away, circumstances bring them into each other's orbit. There is an unexpected mutual attraction and the story journals their growing love, belief in themselves and each other. Of course this doesn't happen without them having to overcome a certain amount of controversy and adversity.
This book delves beyond differences in physical appearances and shines a light on inner beauty and strength.
While this can be read as a standalone, to get deeper background I would advise starting with the prequel novella 'Vice' and then the first book in the series - 'Anger'.
Pride is a 5-star must read.
I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
If you are a fan of steamy work place romances you are definitely not going to want to miss Pride by Arell Rivers . From the moment I met both Zander and Madison I found myself becoming so invested in their journey .both so likable and relatable . One of my favorite things about this awesome book was the development of their relationship, to see how both characters mature and change throughout the story was just absolutely captivating. Angst , emotion, off the charts chemistry, intrigue, heartbreak and heartfelt moments, witty banter , humor and many unexpected surprises. Pride has it all and more . I guarantee once you start reading Xander and Madison’s journey you are going to have a very hard time putting it down . I cannot wait to see what some next a few se
Pride is the third book in the Sins of the Fathers Series and features Xander the rich, handsome, charismatic, uptown guy whose every move is followed by the paparazzi. Due to the bankruptcy and the suspect activities of his father and the other owners of VOW3 media Xander suddenly finds himself out of a job.
Madison is the brilliant and successful owner of a downtown PR firm. Even though she is the perfect sister, and friend to everyone, she still lacks confidence. She is the opposite of Xander, a "downtown" girl who is scarred both inside and outside by an incident in her past. Taking a gamble as to whether it will help or hurt her company she decides to offer Xander a job presenting her ideas to clients. At first Xander seems spoiled and self absorbed and thinks that the job "downtown" is beneath him but quickly learns what an amazing opportunity he has been given as he is way more fulfilled working with Madison than he ever was in his old job.
Madison has always been in awe of Xander but that quickly changes to being seriously attracted to him but she doesn't think that he will ever be interested in her. But how wrong could she be? Xander sees beyond her scars to the woman she really is, she's smart, engaging and helpful to friends and business rivals alike. He admires her drive and determination which makes him even more attracted to her. Suddenly Xander is not the outwardly confident hot guy, he has met his match in Madison and does not think he will ever be worthy of her. Once he makes his move then she is more than ready and this leads to some very hot and sexy scenes.
This is the story of two people who seem to be polar opposites but love makes them equals, wealth and looks no longer matter, what is important is friendship, support, and kindness, and Arell captures this perfectly. With love and humour they are able to build each other up and overcome their fears. I cheered for Madison when with she made an amazing leap of faith to overcome her fear and by the end of the story I was left emotional and teary eyed but happy to have read this uplifting story.
Pride is a wonderful story. Xander and Madison are no strangers but have never really run in the same circles as far as their career goes. Now, Xander is without a job and Madison needs help in her business. Can he work at a place where they dress casual and office in downtown New York? He is used to stiff suits and luxury high rise offices. Madison works hard and her self esteem is not the best. But she is good at what she does and sometimes needs a little pep talk from those close to her. Xander and Madison have great chemistry. The build up to their relationship is smooth and the intense chemistry is so strong. I enjoy the writing of this author because she creates characters that are real and situations that are worth fighting for.
I loved this story from page 1! Xander and Madison were perfect for eachother. We met Xander in ANGER and get to know him better. Xander isn't self confident in his work since his father questions all of his decisions and really isn't sure what love is since he wasn't ever shown any. Madison owns her PR firm and hires Xander to be the face of the firm. Madison isn't like the girls Xander has dated. Madison is insure and feels he could never love a short curvy girl with a scar from a dog bite. They both help eachother to be more confident and we end up with some steamy scenes, but more importantly we get to see a love story. They inspire and complement eachother.

Honestly, I have no words except Absolutely Fantastic! This was an amazing story! City boy meets country girl who teach each other. It was an exciting and emotional (at times) story that I loved and the characters were fantastic! Arell is such a great writer that I recommend anyone to read her books. She just bring you 8nto the story that you feel everything the characters share. ~ARC provided in return for honest review~
Pride is the third book in the Sins of the Father Series. Xander Turner and Madison Welch who went to the same business school who meet up again at an alumni event. Madison gives Xander a job when he’s ousted from the family business. The paps cause some issues between them, along with her insecurities. The rest you need to read for yourself. Great book, great characters. Go grab a copy today!
This book was absolutely amazing!! But I have come to expect no less from this amazing author. Her characters explode from the page and you almost feel like the story is happening IRL. Can't wait to read more in this spectacular series
Another great story by Arell Rivers! I really loved how Xander and Madison came to be together. Helping each other through self doubts, insecurities and not feeling accepting (how relatable right?) together they both help each over come it all. I love that Madison isn’t typical perfect figure, all beauty..but has flaws and shows that inner beauty is just as important as outer beauty! Love that their story deals with real life issues, is inspirational and HEA! Sometimes the person you least expect can change your life for the better!
