American Government 3e aligns with the topics and objectives of many government courses. Faculty involved in the project have endeavored to make government workings, issues, debates, and impacts meaningful and memorable to students while maintaining the conceptual coverage and rigor inherent in the subject. With this objective in mind, the content of this textbook has been developed and arranged to provide a logical progression from the fundamental principles of institutional design at the founding, to avenues of political participation, to thorough coverage of the political structures that constitute American government. The book builds upon what students have already learned and emphasizes connections between topics as well as between theory and applications. The goal of each section is to enable students not just to recognize concepts, but to work with them in ways that will be useful in later courses, future careers, and as engaged citizens. In order to help students understand the ways that government, society, and individuals interconnect, the revision includes more examples and details regarding the lived experiences of diverse groups and communities within the United States. The authors and reviewers sought to strike a balance between confronting the negative and harmful elements of American government, history, and current events, while demonstrating progress in overcoming them. In doing so, the approach seeks to provide instructors with ample opportunities to open discussions, extend and update concepts, and drive deeper engagement. Had to read this for political science course, informative. But boring. I still don’t know how the government operates… JK lmao I recommend the audio book.
Shamelessly bias. It started off alright and then it got to Chapter 8- The Media and it completely went off the rails. I am critical of both sides of the two party system in the US and I can easily detect bias information from both sides. This one takes the prize for the most unreliable, it is cringe worthy. Add yourself to Chapter 8 as failing to fulfill your obligation to the American people.
Informative but boring, had to take for a required federal government class in college. If you were in an America high school or took AP government than you already learned pretty much everything in this book except for specific vocab it uses.
Professor was chill, made an 88% in the class. I will say though, if this textbook isn’t a required one in your class and ur thinking about reading it to help understand the subject better, you probably will be able to learn from this but it WILL bore you to death and make it a struggle to continue reading. Even my Texas government textbook was more interesting/engaging than this one, and I thought that one was boring too!
Do yourself a favor and find another textbook to read cuz this one is just not it.
3.5 🌠 I finished my first class for grad school and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about politics at a much more impactful time in my life than in high school. There is a lot more context and understanding at this point and I wish every single American would read half of this textbook.
