Enemies #2

Family Book 2 of 2 Lovers to Enemies Enemies to…
The line between love and hate has never been so thin, and Blake and Sebastian
return in this sequel with bottled-up hurt that somehow just brings them even
closer.
Sebastian was right. I was a coward. I ran my closeted tail all the way back to
Georgia. Once I got there, I had no place left to hide. My life imploded. But when I
was welcome nowhere, I still had to go somewhere.
I could barely look my sister in the eye, facing Sebastian didn’t even exist on my
radar, and I was prepared for my brother-in-law’s protective hostility. I just didn’t
have a choice. For once in my life, I wanted redemption. I wanted to belong
somewhere, and I was ready to work for it.
Sebastian was the exception—hard no. I might have screwed up royally, but he wasn’t
so damn innocent. He’d hurt me too, and he better not push me. In fact, it was best
we avoided each other altogether.
So it didn't make a lick of sense for me to seek him out to provoke a reaction. This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books stand on their own, unless otherwise stated, and the reader can jump in wherever they want.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Told in single POV, 1st person, it’s the second installment in the "Enemies" duet and should be read in order. The story started two months after where book 1 finished and this time it’s from Blake’s POV. He is a good man, a hard worker. He’s strong and does what’s best for his family. He’s so desperate to belong somewhere and Sebastian had made him feel too much, he had shattered the walls around him but here I have a question! How come a nearly 40 years old man can mistake the signs of love with a toxic relationship?!? Do I have your permission to slap him (not so hard, I promise)! Nevertheless, I enjoyed this more than book 1. In this one, I could feel their chemistry and enjoyed the angsty parts. The scenes were HOT. All in all, I had a good time reading it and hope you like it as well!

Like book one, I don't really think this is an enemies to lovers trope book and, also like book one, I don't think it needed to be a separate publication.

Obviously it's a duo, so part one is told from Sebastian's POV and this one is all Blake's but, imho anyways, it could have been done in the one book.

Still, what's in this book is superbly written, as is everything from Cara. It's off the charts hot and includes some of my favourite kinks which is ridiculously hot.

It also has an excellent secondary narrative running through it about finding a home, about the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who support us and that, sometimes, it's those who should be closest to us that can cause the most hurt.

My heart ached for Blake because he's very definitely not a bad man at all, he's conflicted and he's fallen in love for the first time ever and doesn't know what to do with his feelings.

I was pleased that things weren't dragged out unnecessarily, there is a bit of "hate sex" right at the start when Seb and Blake first run into each other when there's no-one else around, but other than that, this is more a book about reconnecting.

Teddy was his usual awesome self, I also very much appreciate Sophie and David, Blake's siblings, and I love Dylan, Soph's partner, who is all ends up just a decent bloke. I also loved the wee guest appearance of one of my absolute favourite characters of Cara's Darius Quinn :)

Ultimately though, this is a book about loving someone because they make your day brighter, your future happier and your life something to be enjoyed, and you do the same for them. It's a really gorgeous relationship - once the pseudo enemies thing is out of the way!

Now, that's pretty much what I was hoping for when I finished book 1. There was redemption and a lovely HEA. Still felt like there was *something* missing, but I'm not sure what. Still, I enjoyed this one!

That was just exactly what I was waiting for, thank you very much!
Anger, hurt, sharp comments, misunderstandings, and finally surrender to their true feelings.

Blake runs away from Sebastian back home to his parents. Blake is confused about his feelings. Coming out to his parents was a miscalculation, he thought they would love him no matter what. In no time his father asks him to leave.

Back with his sister, Dylan, and Teddy, his family! was wonderful.
Sebastian was something else.
The guy hates him, doesn’t let him explain, and hurts him whenever he can.

I trusted the author to make this a splendid story and gosh it was everything.
Enough miserable hurt, all the feelings, family drama, redemption, I couldn’t wish for more.
Both men together was hot, there are some extremely delicious bedroom scenes. My favorite!
Highly entertaining, wonderfully written, well-developed characters, a winner!

Enjoyed it more on the reread.

Better than Book 1, but I still didn't warm up to either MC the way I have with Dee's other books.

Still enjoyable, and a good follow-up.

We are continuing in Camissia Cove in Washington State, for book #2 where we see Sebastian in his many endeavors, including charities.
Sebastian is a a beach cowboy with long hair,

a "jack-of-all-trades" in the area.
Blake is Soph's brother, so he's also Teddy's uncle. A lot is happening in the lives of this big bunch of people,
plus the upheaval of Blake's departure, and the issues with Teddy's education.
Blake comes back after coming out at home,

being tossed, and he'll be building Soph's family a new home. It's the least he can do for his beloved sister. He has lots to say, but Sebastian is being too stubborn to listen.

It's back and forth with their anger, and finally, they give in to their sexy hotness, and WOW are they scorching,

and then later, when Sebastian does hear the big things Blake has done, he's overwhelmed and elated.

The sky opens up and a deep love emerges.
Awesome epilogue.
ENJOY !

"I'm Not Your Enemy" is the second part of a two-part story, and it is not a stand-alone book.

When I read Sebastian's part (book #1), I wasn't too happy with it, as it was way shorter than I expected, and I felt that the enemies-to-lovers trope wasn't there at all. I hoped Blake's part (book #2) would fix some of that. And as it turns out, I got my wish! This book is a full-length story, and it has everything that I felt was missing in the first book.

This time we get the story from Blake's point of view, who is back in Camassia, and, this time, he plans to stay for good.

The dislike between the main characters is more apparent here, and it's clear that there are some terrible memories between them. They have a messy history that they have to untangle if they want anything to happen between them again. Well, anything serious and relationship-like, because other things keep happening even when there are still unresolved issues and hurt feelings from the past summer.

Sebastian and Blake's chemistry is undeniable. They're pure fire when they are together. Whether they're fighting or in a good place, it's clear that they have a solid physical compatibility and connection. Don't worry, though. They have an emotional one as well. Their relationship eventually becomes very well-balanced.

In the first book, I was pleasantly surprised to realise their pets made appearances. There are even more in this part, like Blake bringing his four-legged companion, West, with him this time around. I loved every scene with any of them in it, but, fair warning, some of them were heartbreaking even if others were hilarious.

We see the familiar side characters from the first book, of course, but the rest of Blake's family is getting some page time this time. I can't find a way to share my feelings about them without giving away parts of the story, so I'll say that I liked some of them and couldn't stand some others.

This book was just what I wanted for the two of them. I rated this one above the first one, but I value both the same as one couldn't be without the other, and I liked Blake and Sebastian's story. I'm happy with how we left them. I hope that Cara Dee's tendency to revisit past characters will also extend to this couple. And their pets, of course, don't forget their pets!

This time from Blake’s perspective.
I’m just going to say it. Blake is an idiot. Calling Sebastian toxic. He needs to look in the mirror 🪞
AND Cara killing Blake’s dog is VERY shitty! Ugh. Again, I’m glad this book is in KU.

They work through their problems and the book gets better but also not.

I need to put a pin 📌 in the Cara books for awhile. This is an older book but meh 🫤

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the duology—as a reader and a writer. There needs to be a solid story for both characters in order to justify two, single POV books. There need to be surprises and unpredictability. We need to think one thing in the first book, then find out we’ve been wrong in the second. In my humble opinion, Cara Dee pulled that off beautifully. It took me a minute to really feel invested in the first book. Sebastian almost felt too perfect and the set up felt a little long, but then WHAM!!! She had me, and I couldn’t put the book down. I was really curious how Blake was going to redeem himself. Wow! Spectacularly is how! I absolutely loved him. He’s flawed and so genuine. I cried a lot (no spoilers) over his broken heart and again when she mended it. The tension between these two, especially when they were mad/hurt, was delicious! Sexy, flawed, and real are the characters Cara writes.

I already got this together with the first book and although I was a bit disappointed by that one, I still give this one a chance. Perhaps it will be not as sweet and not as much Teddy in it, well, at least I can hope:)

Finished and I'm happy to say - this was much better than the first book.

Great follow up to the first book

Great addition to the first story, still think it would have made more sense just to have the two books in one though. I really enjoyed this. Could have cried for Blake, and loved how Sebastian listened to him and forgave him. There wasn't a lot of outward angst, but Blake internalised much of his, poor guy The sex is sizzling, the secondary characters good fun, and Teddy adorable. Oppy and Percy stole my heart.

We read the first book in Sebastian's POV, and this was told in Blake's POV.
This was exactly what I was expecting after I finished the first book.
There was family drama, anger, hurt, loss, misunderstandings, sharp comments, verbal blows, forgiveness, surrendering to each other and their feelings, so much hotness, cuteness, love, Teddy, dogs, Tiger Lily and HEA!
Really enjoyed it.

I mean this was quite nice
I also found their sex life a bit more interesting than your everyday sex adventure
weird was that two forty years olds have so little experience navigating any kind of relationship but that they do succeed quite easily once they set their mind to it
another book that shows that communication is key in the good way

While it's enemies-lite, there's plenty of steam once they get their act together.
Told exclusively from Blake's pov this time round, it follows him cleaning up after his mistakes of book 1.
A little bit of outside drama with Sebastian being a rock for Blake.
Such a sweet ending too.
I'm glad I picked this up

Note: If you haven’t read my review of A New Enemy, you should do that before proceeding.

Sigh. This is a tough one to rate. I liked part two better than part one, and it least it was longer. I call these books parts one and two because they aren’t independent books; the should've been combined and sold as one story. The first was a short novella, and while no page length is provided for the second part, it seems to be approximately twice as long. Together, they would be a normal length book at around 330 pages, and combined, the story would probably warrant a rating of 4 hearts/stars. But since it’s marketed as two separate books, I have to review and rate it as two separate books. Neither is a complete or satisfying story on its own.

Part one is a single, first-person narration from Sebastian’s POV. Blake's characterization is shallow. Part two switches to Blake's POV only, so at least we get to experience his side of the story which was sorely lacking in part one. Unfortunately, I still didn’t become invested in Blake and I never warmed up to his character. The cliffhanger ends up being far less dramatic because the plot didn’t go in the direction that was implied at the end of part one. We do get the romantic aspect that was missing in part one, and the sex and dirty talk are highlights. It’s the secondary cast that once again adds a good bit of enjoyment and depth to the story: Sophia, Dylan, Seb's brother David, his father, the dogs, and of course, Teddy, who is a delight and definitely the high point of both parts of the book.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but not enough for me to recommend either book, and certainly not enough to warrant the purchase of two books when they should’ve been a single volume. I usually like Cara Dee; this was a disappointment.

"[...]Look at us darlin'. We're a mess for each other"

YES! YES! YES! OMG! This was everything I was hoping for since I read the first book and it didn't quite deliver.

How much of a biased narrator Sebastian was and how much Blake's part was missing from the first book can be realized after reading this! I won't go into details when it comes to the story (I never do when I love a book so others can discover it unbiased) but let me tell you these things:

- The level of hotness between those two just can't be measured! 🔥🔥🔥🤤🤤🤤
- They talk and listen to each other openly and honestly and I love their rules!
- Blake will break your heart! His poor Rosie!
"[...]It would give me a chance to show my future brother-in-law that I was worth keeping around." 😢😢😢
- Ugly crying at the end with Blake and his father!

All the feels here! All the feels and I wasn't prepared which made it all the more better!

So I liked this one. I really did, but there wasn't anything memorable about it. It was good and enjoyable and made me not want to put it down, but there was very little angst and tension which, mind you, I had no issue with.

I felt like Sebastian forgave Blake too quickly. I wanted more hate between them, but I quickly got over that because they were so good together.

The dogs were adorable tho. And the ending with Nala being pregnant was just not a way to end it. I wanted more of the puppies.

Also, Cara Dee, don't be shy. Give us some more BDSM in your books because I have read all of it and NEED more. Please.

I liked this second book in the duet a little more than the first (probably because it's longer). Bastian was definitely a dick and made Blake work for any forgiveness, and I still didn't feel as connected to the characters as I would hope. But Cara always writes good spice and that pretty much makes up for any deficiencies haha.

I come back to Dee’s books time and again because she is so amazing at writing characters. Blake shines off the page with the intensity of his personality, both the good and the bad. Where we left him at the end of the previous book, it would have been so easy to blame him for breaking Sebastian’s heart (even if Sebastian won’t acknowledge that’s what happened). But Dee drops us into a scenario where we immediately feel for Blake’s circumstances with his family so that we can both sympathize with him as a character and still blame him a little bit for what he did to Sebastian. After all, it’s not fair to expect someone who’s never had a relationship to necessarily recognize the emotions Sebastian inspired with him, even if I also laughed with Blake’s siblings when he described them.

My biggest “complaint” about this book is that we never return to Sebastian’s perspective on things once Blake returns to Camassia Cove. However, Dee still does an excellent job of showing how Sebastian feels about this particular turn to events even from the outside. From the first book’s events, I’d hoped that this would be an amazing “enemies-to-lovers” story because we have that prior knowledge of their initial “friends-to-lovers” journey. Dee more than satisfies on all fronts as the inevitable hate sex turns into more meaningful confrontations that show both men that there’s real hope for their happily ever after.

The secondary theme and conflict of this book is family, as Sebastian and Blake both work out how they fit into the extended family they’ve created in Washington. At the same time, Blake finally coming out to his parents is an important through-line for this book, with an arc just as satisfying as that of the primary romance plot.

As a bonus, the heat between Sebastian and Blake is off the charts and even more intense than in the previous book (which I’m not sure I thought possible). Dee has proven once again that she is adept at combining character and story. I’d read anything she produces at this point, but I’m certainly not complaining about the steamy bits she also provides her readers. As a treat.

En mi opinión, A new enemy y I´m not your enemy deberían haber estado unidos en un único libro.

Best friends brother

I enjoyed this book so much more than the first one! The first book is in Sebastian’s POV. The second is in Blake’s. It starts off so heartbreaking for Blake. He has been in the closet for his almost 40 years of life to his parents. With his siblings and outside, he was out. But he hid from his parents because he knew his mother would have issues with him being gay.

This causes him to have pretty bad anxiety that causes him not to eat or to even make himself sick. To the point that when he gets back home after his time with Sebastian and he tells his parents, when he gets back into town and sees Sebastian for the first time. Sebastian points out that he’s lost weight.

I was frustrated with the both of them for not talking it out but when Blake finally gets fed up and doesn’t give Sebastian the opportunity to not listen. It was smooth sailing.

I don’t see how any parent could be ok with their having such bad anxiety that they’re making themselves sick and aren’t able to be themselves around them. I love being my daughter’s safe space. Nothing would ever change that. I’m glad Blake found his people that love him for who he is.

Marketing the duology as enemies to lovers really wasn't it. There are expectations when you bring up enemies to lovers—namely, at least some kind of torture, either physical or mental. Hatefucking really doesn't count as being “enemies”, come on. Blake and Sebastian were rivals at best, and that's already being generous. Actually, It was kinda misleading to put that into the description, and that's definitely part of what ruined book 1 for me. I kept expecting things that simply weren't gonna happen (like, IDK, Blake killing someone and the end? That would've been entertaining, LOL).

Book 2 was better, though. It got into the real plot from chapter one and didn't linger on things that weren't actually plot-related. There was still a little too much info about things that didn't really matter, but the relationship between Blake and his father got me binging

3.5 stars!!

Giving this one .5 stars more than the first because this one definitely felt less rushed.

Sebastian’s anger felt pretty dramatic and misplaced. It didn’t make sense why he was that angry, especially since all in the last book he talks about wanting to keep things casual.

I also just wish we could have had at least one sex scene that didn’t have Sebastian calling Blake a whore and cum dumpster.

I missed the romance in the intimate scenes. They were all very rough and Sebastian didn’t even care if he didn’t prep Blake. In fact, he liked to hurt him in that way which is a bit of a turnoff for me.

Honestly, these scenes pulled me out of the story. They felt out of place at times. I wanted to see them slow down and make love, not fuck. Especially since there is a lot of animosity between Sebastian and Blake in the beginning (with Sebastian being especially cruel with his words).

So it felt extra harsh when Sebastian treated Blake a sex toy for most of the book. I needed to see a little more softness from Sebastian in that regard.

I still don’t think the title fits…

Blake’s perspective was a nice way to conclude this duet.

Gosh I felt sad for him, talk about feeling unwanted, when his Dad said the things he said to him.. my heart absolutely broke for him.

Blake was actually a pretty selfless man, but that was something he didn’t let everyone see, Sophie and Dylan, yes, but few others knew the real him, he’d hidden his true self for so long, and in so many ways.

Sebastian, I loved.

He was gruff, dominant.. everything I adore in a strong MC. I’m so glad that he got over himself and opened his eyes and heart to Blake because Blake needed it.. hell, they both needed and deserved it.

I really enjoyed their family, their animals, their building a home (even if it wasn’t their own). I loved that the story continued beyond their get together stage and we got to see their relationship as strong and with some of their past hurts mended.

I’ve loved this Camassia Cove series and I’m now impatiently waiting for another book….. 🥰

Great story. If we did halves I'd likely give this 4.5 stars but it wasn't quite a 5 for me. Maybe because I still carried a bit of a grudge from the cliffhanger ending of book one. LOL. IDK. I just know that this was such a good and romantic story, after the forgiveness and misunderstandings from the first book were cleared up.

Both Sebastian and Blake were great characters and their kink dynamic was quite different from the norm. Their extended family was outstanding, other than Blake's mother who was a religious zealot. Need I say more? But his sister's son, Teddy stole the scene each time he was present. A Down's Syndrome child, his exuberance for life and for his favorite men, Sebastian and Blake was amazing. I don't usually enjoy children in my stories but Teddy is welcome any time. What a sweetie!

So glad these two were able to get together and overcome their own fears and their fears of commitment. Love them.

“Good,” he whispered and smiled into the kiss. “I’m keeping you on a mental leash today. You’re gonna worship my cock when we get home tonight until there’s no doubt that you wanna spend the rest of your life with me.”

please, sebastian got me in a chokehold. 😞✋🏻 i really enjoyed the conclusion of sebastian and blake's story! i was glad this book was told in blake's pov because we really needed it after everything that went down in the first book.

i really liked blake and how he redeemed himself. i also liked how sebastian didn't give in too easily (well, except for the hate sex in the beginning 😂) and it took a while for both of them to hash things out. once they've talked and forgiven each other, everything became so sweet; i just loved those two together. 🥺
