Shifter Town has been destroyed by fire. Now my mates need to learn to work together, to save the half-breed baby in my womb.
All my life I’ve been told I’m an abomination; A half-breed that shouldn’t exist. Now that I’m free from the pack that kept me in chains, I want a better life for me, my baby, and my mates.
Except sometimes, it feels like I’m fighting fate. I’m not sure if I can keep my harem together. Can we learn to be a family, before we are burned by the flames surrounding us?
18+ Only. Destroyed by Fire is the third book in a scorching hot reverse harem romance series. Contains a cliffhanger.
J.L. Wilder likes wild things! Her alpha shifters are gruff and tough, with a pinch of tenderness. Curl up with these bad boy book boyfriends, and they will have you howling at the moon!
When not writing shifter smut, J.L. spends as much time as possible exploring the outdoors. She loves getting into trouble with Ace, her Siberian Husky.
Attacked by dragons, Shifter Town must flee to the woods for safety. Lacey and her mates will work together to protect the other shifters. As her pregnancy develops, Bern, Dov and Kane are divided on how to keep Lacy safe. Meanwhile, Xander’s pack discovers that Dragons are still alive and must find a way to defeat them. The surprises in this story just keep coming and keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The arrival of Cedric and the final few chapters lead to another cliff hanger. I can’t wait to read the next book in this exciting series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Lacey's mates have freed her, but now there is another threat. Besides the fae, we now have a dragan that burned their homes down. What will they do? Can they find safety? What about her old clan will they come back after her? Can she protect her baby? What will her mates do? Will they die in the fire or will something protect them? Follow the mystery, suspense and journey of freedom? If they ever are free? Borrowed the book from Kindle unlimited.
Lacey picks up her third, and later fourth, members of her harem. Zane, a tiger shifter, imprints on her, and her other mates, Bern and Dov are not having it. But they come around when they figure how important it is to Lacey. So once again, seemingly good men are effectively neutered by the mate bond. But I digress. They are stunned to find out that dragon shifters still exist. They thought they were all wiped out generations ago. But when they see one flying overhead and it torches Shifter Town, they’re convinced. The rag tag band of survivors escape to the woods and start a makeshift camp there. Rather than do their assigned duties like night watch or checking traps, Lacey and her mates just seem to do nothing but screw all over the woods. Honestly, I found it so irritating. Which says something because I’m here for the romance, right? Anyhow, along comes her fourth mate, a dragon shifter named Cedric. He has left his clan came to warn the group about what’s coming their way. It took her about 2 nanoseconds to get naked and freaky with Cedric. In the woods, while he’s a prisoner, and Zane is on his way back from getting him water.
Her mate, Dov, really had a problem with adding this mate to the harem. At one point he says “no, not this time.” I actually was really hoping that the author would have taken the risk of having one of the mates, specifically Dov, decide he was through sharing his mate. But the bond . . . Makes grown men dumb.
Ugh, I found Lacey near repulsive in this book (see my notes and highlights for specifics. Actually everyone sucks here). I don’t know why she just rubbed me wrong, but she did. I’ve read RH books that I really enjoyed, so it’s not the genre. The storyline is good, so it’s not that either. I guess it all comes back to the writing skill. Seriously, the only character I still find interesting is her old lover, Xander. He’s still an ass, but at least he’s multi-dimensional. He asserts his alpha power, and really does seem to be looking out for the best interests of his pack, while still showing vulnerability and self doubt during his inner monologue. He tries to talk himself out of his lingering feelings for Lacey, but admits that he still has them as well. I found his chapters to be the only ones that I enjoyed reading. The rest of the book I kinda skimmed through just to keep up with the storyline. I admit that I was worried that somehow Xander was going to end up joining her harem, but thankfully it doesn’t look like that is to be.
I just really didn’t enjoy this book at all. I do plan on reading the last book, because I want to see how everything plays out. But it’s kinda painful to get through.
I have just finished book 3 after reading books 1 and 2 in quick succession. The positive thing I would say is that it feels like the series is developing and getting better.
In this book, it felt like the story was more inclusive of the different groups in previous groups. Of course it's always a challenge when there are multiple groups in multiple locations, but in previous books, important characters were pretty much ignored for big chunks of the book. In this book though, we get regular updates from both the wolf pack and shifter town residents.
That being said, I'm still not a fan of Xander. Maybe that's because he actually hasn't been given opportunity to try and redeem himself now. Certainly he seems to be standing up for himself now and less influenced by others and trying to make the pack better. There still doesn't seem to be any connection between him and Lacey. Clearly the idea must be for them to reconnect in the future but I honestly am not rooting for him.
In this book we definitely do learn more about the dangers. In previous books the Fae were basically like the bogey man, non existent except in the background and theory with not much known about them. In this book we learn more about them and ... dragons (in case you couldn't tell by the cover artwork). And we also learn what the fae are after.
I did enjoy this book more than the first 2. There are still a couple of things that niggle at me. It feels like there are inconsistencies in distances mentioned, but that could be because it travel time is glossed over sometimes. The 2 visits to Shifter Town from the wolf pack kind of seemed half-hearted, like I could understand why the were included but it felt like they didn't accomplish much in the overall storyline.
I am curious to see how the next book goes. Clearly the story is coming to a head.
'Destroyed by Fire by J.L. Wilder is the third book in her Hate to Love Shifters series and continues the story of Lacey, a half bear and half wolf shifter, and her mates, Bern and Dov, bear shifters, and Kane, a tiger shifter. The fighting has gotten worse, dragons burned Shifter Town forcing everyone to leave and find shelter elsewhere. Lacey and her mates all escaped with only minor injuries. They aren't sure what to do or where to go. They figured the woods could hide them from the dragons because of the tree canopy so they moved into the forest. Lacey's mates were determined to keep her safe especially because she was pregnant.
Meanwhile, the dragons' lair is discovered and that they are eating humans, possibly shifters in human form which they had not done before. Additionally the dragons have an alliance with the fae even though the fae and dragons have historically been enemies. Lacey and her mates could not figure out what had changed between them. One day Cedric, a dragon shifter, approaches them. He left his clan because the alpha has succumbed to the fae and are following their directives. He also told them the fae know about Lacey's baby and wants her baby because of the power of it's mixed blood.
Ms. Wilder has written a compelling addition to her series. This book pulls you in on the first page and keeps you engaged. The twists and turns, action, passion, surprises, and heat continue. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes some drama with their romance. Can not wait for the book.

4.5 stars. Shifter Town has been attacked by dragons and everyone has been forced to flee the burning town. Lacey and her mates all escape with few injuries, but now they are uncertain as to the best course of action. They know the fae are out there and it soon becomes clear that hiding out in the woods and living wild may be the safest thing to do. The dragons can't see them through the canopy of trees and there is no way to outrun the fae. Meanwhile, Xander and his pack know that Shifter Town has been burned and they are sure the shifters are either dead or have fled. The pack fighters have tracked the dragons to their lair and have discovered that they are eating humans, or perhaps shifters in human form. An older member of the pack also figures out that the fae are working with the dragons. Xander had no clue how to fight either of these enemies.
When a dragon in human form shows up at the shifter camp, everyone is skeptical of his claims that he has left the dragon clan for good and wants to join the shifters. Then he tells them what the fae are really after...

Lacey and her mate recover from the battle with the fae but then dragons appear. Lacey wakes up feeling too hot and wriggles out from between Bern and Dov her two Bear shifter mates and sees Kane sitting reading. They go walking in the woods and things get heated in a different way then as they sit talking a huge shadow passes over head and they recognize it as a dragon . It is going in the direction of Shifter Town so they follow and find the town in flames. Leaving Lacey with their friend Jean a witch Kane goes to their burning cabin and realizes that Bern and Dov are still in there. After he manages to get in he finds them and carries one and gets him out by dropping him out the window and goes back for the other. He finds him unconscious on the floor and carries him to the window where hands reach out to help him.

This is the third story about Lacey and her shifters that lived outside Shifter Town. This is mainly about if her shifters- Bern, Dov, and Kane can live together and the fate of Shifter Town after it was burned down by dragons. Xander also plays a role in this story by discovering the dragon's hideout and a new enemy the fae is discovered that threatens them all. Cedric, a dragon who left his pack, warns the survivors of Shifter Town that the fae who were behind The Genesis want Lacey's baby because of the power of it's mixed blood. Though distrustful of Cedric at the beginning Lacey and Cedric become mates. What happens in this engaging story is full of action, drama, and romance that ends with a cliffhanger. In the next book will we find out if the fae will get Lacey's child and will Xander join forces in this enjoyable serial that I volunteer to read and review via Booksprout.
Destroyed by Fire (Hate to Love Shifter Book3) By J. L. Wilder 4 Stars
The Excitement Continues in Shifter Town...
Lacey and her mates seem to always be in the cross fire of their enemies and this time it's not just them in danger. If that wasn't bad enough now they have to deal with dragons who have been thought extinct, and the dragons are working with the fae smh...
After the town is set on fire everyone hides in the woods only to eventually have a dragon find.. But... Cedric turns out to become a very interesting role to Lacey.
The ending cliffhanger is done with great stuff, lol.

An amazing third book in the Hate to Love Shifters series. The lives of all the characters advance in many ways. Bringing them closer together and strengthening their bonds. Those bonds are strengthened and tested as everything is taken from them and frightening discoveries are made. Lacey has settled into a routine with her the mates and Xander is learning how to lead, but everything is about to change. Dragons join the fight, bringing the realisation that everything they know to be true is incomplete. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series. The characters are well written with a true understanding of what brought them to this place. I love the twist and turns, a rollercoaster ride of emotions and circumstances. I highly recommend this book and series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Just as Lacey and her mates are trying to figure out how to accept Kane as her mate as well. Before they can something else happens in their little town. Its attacked by dragons and its destroyed. Kane manages to save Bern and Dov in time but they remaining shifters of the town move into the woods to regroup and decide what their next move will be. Meanwhile Xander is convincing his pack that they need to covertly track the dragons and see what they are up to before they attack them next. Its not long before that very thing happens. Will Lacey be able to have her child safely? What are the dragons up to?
This installment just makes you want the next one so you get all your answers. WARNING another cliff hanger in this installment too. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
So many small errors… simple things like whether character is accurately labeled as a wolf or bear, more important things like who’s POV a chapter is actually supposed to be from.
The pacing is very rushed and a bit disjointed which for a book that’s 250+ pages doesn’t make sense. There are a LOT of POVs in this book. From characters that aren’t the FMC or her harem. I still have zero clue what’s up with Xander… I’m not sure if I’m supposed to want him to redeem himself or if I’m supposed to disregard him as anything other than the alpha of the wolves. Too many mixed signals on that front.
I don’t know, I want to know how the series ends, but the writing has become haphazard enough that I’m not sure I actually want to read the last book. Though that Xander question… 😂
I am so enjoying this series, the only thing I hate is the cliffhanger at the end of each book. Just when I thought it was going to settle down and the shifter town find out how to defeat the Fae dragons were introduced into the story. Not only that, another twist to the story being one of the Dragon shifters is another mate for Lacey. I can’t wait to read the next story in this series, hopefully it’s the last and we can finally find a way to defeat the Fae and the Dragons.

Destroyed by Fire is book three in the series Hate to Love Shifters by J.L. Wilder. This series just gets better and better. Destroyed by Fire is provocative, it reels you in and delivers. The more you read the more you want. The characters are fascinating - the obstacles they face and the truths are.. well let’s just say unbelievable. And yes it’s a cliffhanger- which is my bane- yet it works here. Enjoy!!

Just when you think things have calmed down, that your pregnancy can continue reasonably stress free, then bam. Shifter Town is attacked by dragons and destroyed by fire. The residents of the town are on the move, Lacey’s mates are conflicted with how to keep her and their babies safe, along with helping to protect the other shifters from the town. I enjoyed reading this instalment to this fabulous series. Oh, and hello cliffhanger!

This is the third in the series. Great story, great characters. Lots of danger and of course, HEAT. First Shifter Town is destroyed by fire. They thought dragons were extinct but now they have more to worry about. Lacy and her guys are all getting along well as the months of her pregnancy go on. They just have to stay safe. They are met with surprises along the way. The action is non-stop. I can’t wait for the next book.

This interesting and very well-written book 3 in The Hate to Love Shifters Book Series has well-thought out scenes, unique and sexy characters and entertaining story with wolf shifters. These characters have engaging personalities, unique characteristics and believable interactions. This story has the following: intrigue, twists, turns, adventure, action, love, steam and a HEA. It is a fast-paced book that will keep you entertained throughout. A must read

This series keeps getting better and better! I really appreciate how there are even more perspectives in this one. These characters are interesting, dynamic, and complex. The world building is great, the story is engaging and unpredictable, and many lingering questions from throughout the series are answered. I love a solid and well written story and this definitely qualifies. This universe is fascinating and although I’m looking forward to reading the next in this series, I know I’ll be sad when it’s over. Highly recommend!!!
I love the concept but a few issues. One there are some editing errors & a few time time mixed you shifters animals or what they were in communication. As the story goes. I feel it lacked background. What happened to FMC parents? This is book 3, why is FMC so important or special? Where are all the elders in the wolf pack? Is is only run by young shifter so where to the old pack members go? Why does anyone have any pass knowledge of their shifter world or history.
I really like this series, the story it’s telling. As for the 4 star rating, I find that I’m not as invested in each individual character as I am I other books..but I am invested in the story as a whole.
The new aspect that’s been added extends the plot and gives it more mystery. Curious to see what the author has in store for us next.
Ps. Love all the cover art. Amazing and the main reason I read the synopsis for this series to begin with.
This is the third book in the Hate to Love Shifters series it's a reverse harem love story about Lacy and her mates but be aware it does end in a cliffhanger and did leave me wanting more. Their story is action-packed and full of danger and the unknown and is full of twists and turns. Don't be put off by the cliffhanger because it's an entertaining story and an enjoyable series - but it's not a standalone story.
This is third book in the Hate to Love Shifters series and continues Lacey and her mates story. When you think things are finally settling down for Lacy and her mates another twist is added to their journey. An entertaining read with intriguing characters, it’s action packed, and filled with danger, twists, suspense, and heat. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting more, I can’t wait for the next book.

This is the 3rd book in this shifter series and I do recommend reading them in order. Their town is destroyed when dragons burn it down. They escape and hide in the woods, but Lacey and her mates along with the other will discover their enemies. Will they be able to beat them and rebuild Shifter Town? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and twists and turns. Great world building and a fast-paced entertaining story. I really liked it.
Ongoing saga. Just when you thought things settled down…. Such love and affection, such terror yeah it actually scared me. I love the comradeship of this group of rejects, they function better than a pack. Can’t wait for the ending

I did not think things could get more whacked out. But, good grief I was so fricken wrong. Wolves, Fea, Bears, Witches and now.... Dragons!!! Add it all together and what do you get? An awesome story to read. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have.

Lacey and her men are at it again. On the run for their lives, pregnant with a child. Adding to the harem. She's been a busy woman making these men a family. All that's missing is a name for their precious boy. Can't wait for the next! Way to, knock it outta the ball park again Wilder!
Lacey's story continued and things get more complicated. Now a dragon also imprints on Lacey so she has four mates to protect her from the Fae. More action with twists and turns will keep you up late to read this story. This is not a standalone and there is one more book in this series. I'm looking forward to whatever happens next!
Jeez, is Lacey gonna get a new mate in every book now? Girl's gonna have a soccer team of mates in no time. When I saw that Jean was getting her pov, I thought she was going to be Lacey's mate too lmao
In the previous book, Bern and Dov were blonds with blue eyes. Now they have dark hair and dark eyes <.<
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. When shift town is attacked by dragons and fea the town goes into hiding to find out why and to figure out how to protect themselves. Fantastic story
