Or whatever. That adage doesn’t really encapsulate how far I’ve risen and fallen in just the last couple months. Drew Smythe got the death penalty, which of course he’s appealing, so who knows when that will happen. Kellianna? She’s still in Ireland.
Drew did his best to destroy my professional reputation both in and out of the courtroom. And Evan and I? We imploded from the pressure. Kellianna is worried about me given how things went down, but she’s too busy with her responsibilities at the mother coven. Jason is becoming more than a friend, while the Gods keep throwing Jared Smythe in my path when I need his compassion the most. My heart’s in a blender and I’m taking it one day, one hour, at a time.
My last two high profile cases have made me a multi-millionaire, something I never saw coming. So I’ll do the responsible thing, I’ll take some time for myself.Who am I kidding? I’m going to drown in alcohol and lose myself in the brothels of Waikiki.
Too bad the Moo Wahine who run said brothels are demanding that the police bring me on as their ‘neutral party’ for their latest feud. The police think it’s a serial killer going after their sex workers. The Moo Wahine think it’s coordinated attacks by each other.
What do I think? I think that if I’m already spending most of my time in their brothels I might as well get paid for it.

Maka is going through some thing after everything that happened with her last case and her relationship with Evan. But her cousin pulls her out because he and The Moo's need her. Maka is the only one that will understand. Maka and Jason address what's going on between them. They are taking things slow but he is her rock while Kels is away. I miss Kels I can't wait for her to come back. Maka didn't let anyone really know what was going on with her Jared because she wanted to see if she could do this on her own. Jared is cute I just can't lol. We get a unexpected character "Ronnie". Thing happened between them that changed how Maka let's people in. We get a little bit of Evan in the end and all I can say is I hope he can redeem himself an I hope Maka let's him back in.
I am living this series but my favorite part of this book was Maka's growth as a character. I've been rooting for her and Jason since book 1. I kind is adore Jared, who grew in me. And I have to admit that my heart broke for Evan in that last chapter. I mean I was mad at him too since I felt Maka was mostly in the right but man...I hope that can eventually find a way to work things out. Really, really enjoyed this book.
But she finally, finally realizes it at least and is doing something to fix it! Oy vey, what a great book! I inhaled it as I do all of the authors’ books. Mystery, internal struggle, pain, pleasure and a strange and alluring world all make for 5 stars. I just don’t understand the rejection of Evan - I even read the previous book and it just seems so… over the top. But anyway, mahalo for another great story!
