A Wolf's Missing Mate

Rate this book
She’s a werewolf trapped in mourning. He’s an alien haunted by duty. Will their out-of-this-world love spark scorched earth or something spectacular?

Marika Edgewater goes on solely for the sake of her child. Suppressing her inner animal since her husband’s tragic death, her wolf is unleashed when a run-in with a vicious biker gang leaves her with a mortal wound. And when she collapses back into her human form, she’s shocked when a devastatingly handsome stranger heals her with his mysterious power.

Evan wants to live on his own terms. Fleeing obligations on his home planet and rejoicing in his newfound freedom on Earth, he’s stunned when he stumbles across a woman who’s been fatally stabbed. And though he swore to keep his extraterrestrial nature secret, he uses his healing gifts to save her life… and binds them as fated mates.

As Marika struggles to abide by the laws against outsiders, she fears for her growing bond with a non-shifter as rivalry and clan politics threaten to tear her world apart. But Evan refuses to abandon the family he’s found in the beautiful mother and her son, even if it means dying by fang and claw.

Can the embattled couple survive to claim a destiny that’s written in the stars?

A Wolf's Missing Mate is the magical first book in the Romances Beyond Tuala fated mate shifter series. If you like resilient heroines, compassionate heroes, and clean romance, then you’ll adore Amy Proebstel’s ferocious tale.

A Wolf's Missing Mate intrigued me from its blurb and had me hooked by the end of the sample, so of course I had to get it (or in this case, request it.) I mean, a clean/sweet werewolf + alien romance? Sign me up!

I must say for the most part it didn't disappoint. At times it could seem rushed (the fated mates trope can do that) but having Evan as the protective hero, and Marika as the caring, strong heroine did make for a fun mix. I liked that despite their instant chemistry and attraction, having them both be from different cultures made things more interesting since they had to learn about each other. I liked that they had things in common in the end, like the elemy, and how they helped the other learn to trust again and grow.

Some plot twists kept things interesting, though I think there were a couple of things that I felt were left unresolved/not so well explained, especially towards the end. Despite that, it all still made for an enjoyable read, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a different take on the werewolf trope/stories. I'm not sure I'll continue with the next one in the series, but I'd like to check out other books by the author. ~ 4.5 stars

Content:
Sex: none. There are very passionate kisses, and the one-bed trope is present, but nothing happens. One talk about "mating" (not between MCs). Also, nudity is present (werewolves don't shift with clothes) but not described.
Violence: mentions of wolves "dealing with" humans (not described), severe injuries (knife cuts in the abdominal area, head wounds, broken shoulder, crushed/bitten? windpipes, etc.)
Other: grief after the loss of a spouse

This is a good light read. Marika and Evan's relationship is sweet. The magic system is interesting. I haven't read shifting being described this way. The timeline is a bit jumbled in areas, but overall it was entertaining. I really appreciate that it was clean.

Losing ones soul mate is generally a death sentence for the survivor. Is it possible to have more than one? Trying to live as an old soul is harder than one would think. Two lives so very different but also very much the same. I am ready for the next book

I loved it. It's not your typical shifter/werewolf story. It was a great mix of romance with an actual story to go with it. I loved getting to know this community and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Marika has pulled away from her pack out of grief from the death of her husband. Who knew accidentally angering a group of bikers would bring her fated mate into her life. Evan is from another world. He's tried not to use his powers but finding Marika hurt changes his plans. How does her pack react when she brings a stranger into their midst? What happens when a trusted friend proves their true feelings? Will it take a near tragedy for things to right themselves again?
