So far, this has been my favorite installment!!!!
Korra and Asami are finally leaving behind that toxic Mako!!!  Aghh!!!!

Mwhaaaa!!!!
Ohh... and while searching for their fanfics... I realized that the creators had to FIGHT for the relationship between Korra and Asami!!

Really like wtf??!! It's 2021!! And they had to convince the producers to let Korra and Asami hold their hands at the end of the episode!!
I'm so angry, man! I've already adopted Korra and Asami!!

And anyone who is trying to get to my daughters has to go through this angry Mrin*huffs*

Like trust me, there are so many toxic relationships in this series.
MAKO is EVER the most toxic person!! He  CHEATS on Asami!!

But how are the creators showing toxic straight relationships over healthy LGBTQ+ ones? What kind of logic is this?
I mean, look at how precious the relationship between Korra and Asami is!

This picks up right where the TV series ends, with Korra and Asami starting a same sex relationship. It's played realistically and positively. Once the two return to Republic City, they are immersed in both an election and a turf war between rival gangs. Mainly, it focuses on a new gang leader who is trying to take over the city who reaches Bond villain level craziness by the end. The series is written by the shows creators with art and colors reminiscent of the cartoon. I'd be surprised if fans of the show didn't enjoy this.

Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss. All thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by the aforementioned.

I loved this! It was like I watched Legend of Korra season 5!

"I want to leave you with a few words spoken by Avatar Aang..." Ugh the callbacks were great, too. I can't wait for more.

I read this right after I finished re-watching TLOK and it perfectly picks up the story where it was picked up!

Korrasami is such a cute ship and superior to every other ship in every way. There is also a section of explaining the history of LGBT+ people in the different nations. I absolutely love everything about this comic. 100% recommend. One of my best experiences ever.

I didn't like the adventure they went on as much, it felt a bit too overcrowded and over complicated - the visuals were still great and I LOVE the time they spent with the characters we know, but the interactions with the villains not as much
But I LOVED seeing Korra and Asami as a couple and being open about it, and dealing with other people's reactions, that more down-to-earth part was really GOOD!!!
I think overall I would still recommend if you are a "The Legend of Korra" fan :)

I thought the story of the book was really fun -- it did a great job referencing and building off of a lot of the stories and the lore introduced in the Legend of Korra TV show (including both more of the day-to-day life within Republic City and also the wide history of human interactions with the spirits in the time of Wan), and has really set up the series to have many plots that can span multiple books. I also loved the exploration of Korra and Asami's new relationship!! But sometimes I felt like the dialog was a little awkward or their dating was brought up at weird times in relation to the action that was also occurring in that scene. Maybe these scenes where romance and action were so closely tied were necessary to get to hear everyone's reaction of their relationship while not having to have meetings only focused on the relationship, thereby saving some page/panel space for more plot.
I also loved Irene Koh's art style! Her line work is so beautiful. Also her and Michael DiMartino's letters in the beginning were both so touching I almost cried. It doesn't seem like Koh will be sticking around to illustrate the next volume unfortunately, but hopefully I'll find some other story illustrated by her that I'm also interested in!

I mean, it's not good.

Turf Wars picks up moments after the conclusion of The Legend of Korra animated series. Avatar Korra and her new boo Asami take to the Spirit World for an extremely brief vacation before returning to Republic City to find conflict awaiting them. Political shenanigans and gang-related turf wars require the Avatar and her crew to step up again and be the heroes they were always meant to be.

It's interesting to me that Avatar co-creator, Michael Dante DiMartino, wrote this story because it certainly doesn't feel like it. The characters don't really sound or feel like the characters. The illustrations resemble the show but are significantly weaker than what we see on the screen. And the "adventure" is not really one.

I'm guessing this graphic novel is rated so well because of fans' infatuation with the budding romance, because it's definitely not for the story or illustrations, both of which I'm looking for most in my graphic novels. I'm hoping there's more focus on both of those elements in future entries because I really want the continuing story to be a good one!

Part 3 - ☆☆☆☆

I didn't like lok as much as i loved atla, but i like these characters and i was really happy to see them again, specially korrasami, i had the biggest smile on my face because of them 💗

Plot wise, i didn't like it, but to be honest, one of the reasons i didn't like lok as much as atla is because i wasn't into the spirits world plot, and lok had a big focus on that (but i love these characters and i couldn't help myself, i had to read this), so i was lowkey bored reading that parts, but overall it didn't completely bring down this comic for me. Also i was really interested seeing how lgbt+ lives in this world, that's something we didn't really see in both shows, so i'm glad to read that, and i was so happy seeing how people supported korrasami, specially kya, she deserves the world after that talk.

I adore the TV series. And seeing Korra and Asami's relationship flourish in the comics is just perfect. It is not just them either. Getting to see how the world reacts to the changes that are happening on a daily basis helps build such a great narrative.

Korra makes me very happy. Asami makes me very happy. Zhou Li makes me very happy. Should I go on? I could. Jinora makes me very happy. Even Varrick makes me happy!

The comic book villains are not as complex as the original show’s, but who cares?? It’s more LoK and I’m not complaining.

Korrasami is just the best. I'm glad we have comics to further develop their relationship because in 2014 people were still sensitive about being queer on kid show.

Usual spot for disclaimer: I prefer LoK to TLA. Sue me.

So, I don't usually rate (or read) comics, but come on, this is *Korra*.

To quote Asami: "I like Korra." Yes, Asami, we know you do.

First of all, this comics should be named: Korrasami: the Fanservice. This comic is basically one giant middle finger to all those who said that following the finale, the canon status of the relationship is unclear. (Insert the meme about Jinora and secret tunnel).

I could watch these two frolick over the Spirit World for 500 pages - especially as the art is really good and in line with the style of the series.

This is NOT a bad thing. It's absolutely sweet and I totally ship Korrasami and I was sad it received so little development and I am happy to see it followed, unburdened by Nickoldeon's S&Ps. And come on, that kiss! That said, I like my comics like I like my women - not only sweet and pretty but also with some more plot in them. Also I know this is a far less serious work (with a shorter storyarc) than the "main" seasons, but come on, the villain is just too one note. That, of course, can work (I'm looking at you Ozai and Unalaq), but after Amon, Kuvira and Zaheer it's kinda disappointing. By the way, I get he had some extra spiritual "umpff" but I still find it hard to believe he was able to beat season 4 Korra, you know, the one who took out Kuvira without breaking a sweat.

Oh, and Korra, we all love how hotheaded you can be, but this comic takes part after season 4. Shouldn't you have matured a bit? And your parents aren't Unalaq. Now go and apologize to them, young lady.

Fortunately the plot thickens in the second part of the story with Triad wars, portal unrest and presidential elections. The supporting cast is quite interesting, we get some good action scenes and Asami proves that even when helpless and at the mercy of the villains, she is never helpless and at the mercy of the villains. Also, when will they ever learn? "Sure, let's kidnap the girlfriend of the most powerful being in the world". Hashtag what can go wrong?

Mako/Bolin/Tenzin all get some nice action and Zhu Li is awesome as always. But the main strength of the comics is definitely its focus on Korrasami. These two are so sweet together, but at the same time the comic doesn't make a mistake of having everything be sweet and rosy. Korra and Asami are clearly just learning how to be in a relationship, with plenty of miscommunication and misunderstandings.

While not as good as the series itself, I liked it and am happy that I've read it. Now onto Ruins of the Empire.

As a side note: not that I don't support buying the comic to support DH and Korra, but the only valid way of "reading" it is through listening to the live reading on YT. Who wouldn't want to listen some more of Korra and Asami (and Lin and Bolin too.) Pity it covers only 70 or so pages.

Siggheroni.

3.75 stars for the first LOK comic. I love seeing the relationship between Korra and Adami finally come to fruition in this comic, and I appreciate that the comic addresses several aspects of coming out in mostly subtle ways. Korra and Asami are definitely the highlight in this story, but it was also fun seeing Bolin and Mako being the usual chaotic duo. Varric and Zhu Li were a great addition as well, and I loved the development one of those two had! The overall story is alright, though not overly breathtaking. The villain pales in comparison to the other fantastic and nuanced villains of the animated series and I wish there had been more to the bad guy than just "grrr, I want revenge and take over the city, grrr!" There aren't any big surprises or super unique viewpoints, but it was still an overall entertaining story in the LOK universe.

Honestly, I read this for the shipping material (which was AMAZING btw). I am not a huge fan of sequels after television shows unless there is a story arch of similar magnitude to the original. Turf Wars part 1, 2, and 3, is more like a single episode more than anything, and having a single episode split into three parts isn't really my favorite thing to read unless I can read all of them at once. That being said, if you have complete sets of the LOK comics and can read them simultaneously, they are really good! Together, all the book sets are like an extra season. As I said, I was reading this for the ship and not necessarily the story, but I enjoyed both a lot!

Note: Plus the art is SUUUUPER pretty so . . . :3

I’ve never been a fan of continuing tv series after it ends but I’ll make an exception for the avatar series. Loved that it picked up right after the series finale and we got to explore the Korra/Asami relationship.
