It was a story that couldn’t possibly be true: Identical twins, separated at birth. Anna Drury wouldn’t have believed it, but the woman standing before her was physically alike her in every way…and held in her hands a keepsake baby bracelet, the same as Anna had. How could it be?
Anna—with her tall, strong husband and two adorable children, grew up loved and secure, and she freely opens her heart to others, so she embraces the idea of her new-found sister, Amelia. Everyone tells Anna to tread carefully, but Amelia is family, she sees it in the other woman’s face and knows it in the depth of her soul. And family should always be welcome.
Once the shock settles and the dust clears, the sisters learn about each other as they unravel the secrets of their past and separation. Anna wants to believe that life with her new-found sister will be perfect, but just as they are bonding in a special way, Amelia reveals the true reason for their reunion. Her kidneys are failing, and Anna could be her perfect match.
But if Anna agrees to her request it might threaten everything she holds dear, her marriage, her health…even her life. Faced with this dilemma, Anna must ask herself a hard question, how far will she go to help her twin, the woman who is her other half…and a woman she doesn’t really know?
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.
This was such a great read, I devoured it. I could not put it down. The twins were the best. I was so happy that it all turn out perfect. I hope that there is a book 3 because I need to see how everyone is doing. I want to know about all the new relationships turn out.
Does anyone else have a fascination with reading about twins? I love a good sister story, but if they’re twins I’m super invested and this one hooked me right away. Anna and Amelia were separated at birth and this starts when Amelia shows up on Anna’s doorstep. Anna is thrilled by the news and embraces her sister wholeheartedly, just as she does to all the people in her life. Amelia is more reserved and Anna’s mom and husband are skeptical and when Amelia confesses she’s there to ask Anna for her a kidney, things get complicated.
It sounds a little over the top and soap operaish, but it’s not. It’s much deeper and more emotional than that and was a really lovely story about family. The characters were complex and well drawn and this was so heartfelt and endearing. Definitely an emotionally charged story but I felt hopeful in the end.
I can't really recommend this book. I can see it as a Hallmark movie, and that is not a compliment. Granted I usually read nonfiction, but I take audiobooks when I go on a road trip. I try to keep them lighter. The first part of the book is just dripping with an abundance of adjectives and a wealth of cliches. I picture the author sitting down to write with a thesaurus next to her computer. I looked up the author and discovered she churns out books at an alarming rate, never a good sign. The premise is a good one, but some parts are very unrealistic and trite, and yes, predictable. So much of this book could have been omitted, and that would have been an improvement.
This was so heartbreaking and so good. I couldn't imagine finding out I had a twin sister in my 30's. What a wild ride finding out that you have a twin sister and one of you's was switched at birth. I also couldn't imagine having to make the decision about giving up one of my kidney's to that new twin. It would be a huge decision. At first I didn't like Amelia or Kevin, but as the story progressed, especially towards the end, they grow as characters and things happen that made me change my mind. Obviously, that's what is supposed to happen, but I don't always change my mind. This time I did.
The premise of the book sounded so intriguing and interesting BUT I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. After 35 years you learn you have an identical twin sister and when you see her, your reaction and those around you are literally laughable and so unrealistic that it made the story ridiculous. I just could not read any more into the book. Too bad because the storyline had great potential.
This story has a ton of emotion going on between all of the characters. I really liked how Lori switched the POV between Amelia, Anna, and her mother Robin, it gave you different perspective.
I am on the fence with the relationship with Anna and her husband, however I am glad she stood her ground at the end, but I still feel unresolved about it.
You will need Kleenex while reading. I am hoping and looking forward to Moonglow #3!!
The Keepsake Sisters by Lori Wilde is an endearing novel about what it means to be family.
Anna Drury is a Moonglow resident who owns a bakery and enjoys a happy marriage. Her husband Kevin travels for his job so she and their two children, 3 year old Logan and 10 year old Allie are on their own quite a bit. Anna has a huge heart and she is willing to help anyone in need. She volunteers a lot and enjoys playing in a band with her friends. Anna is close to her mother Robin and her brother Mike and she is still mourning the loss of her father.
When Amelia Brandt shows up at their house, Anna naturally welcomes her with open arms. Kevin, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with the complete stranger on their doorstep. Willing to fight for the chance to get to know the twin sister she has never met, Anna is upset that Kevin does not agree with her. In fact, he leaves her to deal with it on her own while he goes on a business trip. Anna is also shocked by Robin’s reaction to the news that Anna is not her biological child and that she wants nothing to do with Amelia. Despite the turmoil in her family, Anna could not be more delighted to spend time with Amelia. But how will she react when her sister reveals her reason for tracking her down?
Amelia is reserved and standoffish but determined to carry through with her plan. She did not grow up with loving and devoted parents so she is taken aback by Anna’s warm welcome. Amelia is very uncomfortable with her twin’s physical displays of affection and emotional declarations. Although Amelia grows to genuinely like Anna, she knows she needs to tell her why she wanted to meet her. However, will Anna change her mind once she realizes that her feelings toward her twin have changed?
Anna’s life is completely upended when Amelia knocks on her door. She completely accepts Amelia into her life and she will not allow her mom’s or Kevin’s attitude to affect her decisions. Anna is stunned by Kevin’s outburst but she acknowledges there might be some truth to what he says. But she is furious at his assumptions about Amelia and some of the decisions he makes without her knowledge. Equally unexpected is Robin’s reaction to Amelia and her out of character behavior. Anna does not want to hurt her family but will she give up the chance for a relationship with Amelia?
The Keepsake Sisters is a delightfully heartwarming novel with an engrossing storyline and wonderful characters. Amelia and Anna are beautifully drawn characters whose relationship slowly blossoms over time. Robin’s reaction to her daughter’s news is realistic and easy to understand. Kevin’s kneejerk response does not cast him in the best light and makes it difficult to like him. The undeniable bond between the twins is evident from their first meeting but will unanticipated details about Amelia alter Anna’s viewpoint of her newfound twin? With unexpected twists, Lori Wilde brings this captivating novel to a heartfelt conclusion.
I loved this book! I devoured it. Great story line, characters, and detail. It was an easy, fast paced read for me. Gave off a bit of Hallmark vibes with the town and their jobs a bit, but also just so much better!! I’ll be finding more Lori Wilde books to read. I read this one independently of the other books and I didn’t feel like I missed anything so assume the series isn’t necessary to follow.
Anna and Amelia are identical twins, literally separated at birth. Years later, thanks to 23&Me, Amelia shows up on Anna's doorstep, not just to say hello but searching for help with an organ transplant. Yep, schmaltzy, but this is what was needed by this reader during home renovation!
Anna Drury opens her front door and gets the shock of her life. Standing there is a woman who looks exactly like her! Her name is Amelia and she is Anna's sister, an identical twin sister Anna never knew she had. Why did she suddenly show up? What does she want? How and why were they separated? Well written story and great characters. I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it!
Anna Drury is completely beside herself, the woman standing before her is a spitting image of her and is claiming that they are twin sisters. Then she looks at the woman's hands and sees the same baby bracelet she had when she was born, and she instantly knows her story has got to be true. Everyone around Anna is skeptical of Amelia's story and questions her true motives for showing up after all these years. But Anna can't help but be drawn to her... she wants to help her, she is her sister. But how much will her help cost her?
The Keepsake Sisters is a captivating and emotional tale of family, sisterly bonds, and second chances. This one brings us into the lives of two women who shared birth parents, but nothing else after. They were raised in separate worlds, live completely different lives, and the one thing that unites them is their DNA. Watching them learn each other's secrets, habits, strengths, weaknesses, and build a bond was quite entertaining. I could not put this one down, the words drew me right in and I had to know how it would all end for them! I highly recommend you take a chance on this one, what you find waiting for you between pages is bound to touch your heart and stir up your emotions!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
This was a book I didn't know I needed to read. Yes, it's a long lost twin trope, but the story grabbed me and wouldn't let go. So much so that I've added other books from the author to my to be read pile.
A great twin story about two babies that were separated at birth and found Their way back to each other later in life. Can they help each other and Still remain close. This was a page turner with good family characters and captivated you from the first page. I recommend this bookmark as it was so Well written and heartwarming.
I have been reading Lori Wilde books for over 12 years. I had the honor of meeting she and her assistant Christie. I consider them both friends. I’m really excited Lori Wilde has been releasing so many books lately. I can’t imagine having a stillborn baby. I definitely can’t imagine not even knowing that happened. Then over 30 years later finding out that my daughter was switched at birth with a baby girl who was actually a twin. I have twins and I can’t imagine them not growing up together. I’m so glad these sisters ended up meeting each other because I definitely know even if twins are boy/girl twins they still have a bond no one but twins understand.
First of all, I was captivated by the cover-I love a beach setting. I cannot say enough about the storyline. I enjoyed reading the story of twin sisters separated at birth and the part the midwife played in the separation. We learn about the complex relationship between the sisters and about Anna and her husband's unraveling of their marriage. I was captivated by the storyline and read the book in one sitting. I recommend Lori Wilde"s books to anyone who loves women's lit. I plan on reading Moonglow Sisters next. Thank you for the ARC.
2.5 but there was something missing in this book. Honestly, I think the author took the easy route in developing the story because it would have been a whole different ball of drama if Anna with the wonderful family had gone to find Amelia and her true birth mother who seemed to be an awful person. Instead, we get the introverted sister which a bad childhood discovering what true love and family is - in other words, the happy easy outcome. On top of that, Anna was too much. She had like a chapter of her life being turned upside down and then it was 100% acceptance and full on love for this sister she never had before. She was a lot to swallow. At the same time, the whole twin connection was overdone. Just because they're identical twins does not mean their whole beings are going to be identical to both getting the same illness at the same time, to having the same ringtone and same bathroom fixtured and always being in sync. One or two incidences to show a connect, okay, that's acceptable, but everything seemed to be on the same wavelength. While I'm not an identical twin and have no real experience with them, I'm pretty certain a lot of them have different personalities and likes. Yes, Anna is extroverted while Amelia is introverted but the amazing twin connections made it seem like they were clones of one another. It was a little over the top.
This book just didn't do it for me. I wanted some more realistic drama. Really, the whole town shows up for the grand gesture when they've known Amelia for less than a month? The whole switched at birth storyline deserved way more attention and indignation. It felt like a lot of missed opportunities on the road to make this a story about love and acceptance. In the end, I was disappointed and annoyed.
Even though the Moonglow Cove series is set in one place, the characters do not seem to be reoccurring. One thing I love about series is seeing characters pop into other books as minor/secondary characters. While this seems likes a small town series, it does not have that feel as an overall series. In saying all of that, you can read each book out of order or without reading another - it is basically a standalone book. While the identical twins being-separated-at-birth story can seem a bit implausible at time. Yet, once I let go and reminded myself that this is a fiction novel (and with contemporary romance/small town stories a bit of fantasy) I was able to enjoy the novel. The characters were realistic, and the bond of sisters has always fascinated me (being an only child). This book does discuss covid, and exists in post-covid, but is a minor detail. It is a fun book, and series, for the warmer weather ahead.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through Edelweiss. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
I received this book as an ARC from Goodreads. As a whole, I did like this story and I'm glad I received the ARC and had a chance to read it for free.
What I had a problem with was the writing regarding the husband. "My man," "the Viking," etc. - I love my husband but I would never utter such words/phrases about my husband unless it was in a joking way. I felt like Anna was channeling a 1950's insecure, dependent woman when the author put these kinds of phrases in her mouth/mind instead of the confident, 2021 woman she truly is. Also, Kevin's caveman-like attitude is not one that's easily overcome and there are deeper issues going on with someone like this that throw up all kinds of warning signs in today's culture. I don't know what the purpose of all of that was, but it was very off-putting for me which is why I didn't rate this book higher. Maybe it's because Ms. Wilde has written/writes Harlequin novels, which I do my best to avoid, but she needs to update her characters if she wants them taken seriously in her non-Harlequin novels.
I read this book at just the right time. The premise is that twins were separated at birth and grew up in very different homes. They discover each other when one is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. This is not really a romance- it's more accurately women's lit, but the internal and external relationships are really well written. How much can you give of yourself in a relationship and still be true to yourself? How much can you expect in return?
There were some complicated emotional conflicts that sort of... dissolved very quickly. I missed seeing those resolutions play out. Also, interestingly enough- this is the first fiction that I've read in which coronavirus was a part of the background story. That startled me a bit, but overall I enjoyed "The Keepsake Sisters". It grabbed my attention from the very beginning.
My thanks to author Lori Wilde, the publisher, and#NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The cover is so inviting and picturesque. The Keepsake Sisters is such a fulfilling read. I've always liked books that end well and everything is sorted out, but never have they been more important in my reading stack than this year. Anna's life is turned upside down when her twins sister, Amelia, materializes out of nowhere. I did think Anna was very hasty, gullible, and way too accepting toward a complete stranger so I think her husband, Kevin's feelings were justified. There was a lot of character development for the main personalities, but Wilde handled all raw emotions with good relevancy. Alls well that ends well and this story does. Thanks to William Morrow and NetGalley for the advance read.
When a friend recommends a book, do you read it? To the end? Well.... I'm one of those people who must, if only for the sake of truthfully saying that the book was read. But, fellow readers, do not be compelled. This book is truly marginal at best. It may be the only time in my history, that I wish for a rating lower than one star.
