The Alien Emissary

Rate this book
The metal tentacles tightened around Bryant’s wrists and for the first time in years he finally felt...safe.

When Bryant breaks into the ship of a powerful Qeshian emissary, he knows he might get caught. But he needs the money to save his daughter, and for her anything is worth the risk.

What Bryant doesn’t know is that Emissary Serihk can see everything that happens on his ship, and he’s got enough flex metal tentacles packed into its every nook and cranny to do something about it.

But when Serihk has Bryant bound and kneeling on the floor, the feelings the human brings out in him are far from vengeful...

3.5 Stars✨

The Alien Emissary is a fun intro to Eryn Ivers’ series! Plot-wise, it’s straightforward but hits the spot—think alien emissary meets human romance, and it works! 💫 For a novella, the world-building actually impressed me, setting a cool foundation for what’s to come.

Now, let’s talk smut because yes. 🔥 The chemistry between the leads is instant and electric, perfect for the novella’s fast pace. Ivers really nailed that balance of tension and intimacy, and it was definitely a highlight.

I ended up giving this one 3.5 stars, but not because it missed the mark. It’s just hard for me to go above 3.5 with novellas—unless they’re about characters I’m already obsessed with, ya know? But this was a solid start, and I’m here for what’s next!

Tentacles. Need I say more?

It had a bit of a Les Miserables beginning, then was intensely sci-fi erotic, then one stubborn man learned he could let his guard down and be loved.

He had the sudden, ridiculous urge to drop to his knees and rest his forehead on the man’s thigh. He wanted to feel the man’s long fingers in his hair again. He wanted to let him decide what happened now. Emissary Serihk seemed like a man that always knew what to do, and Bryant never did.

This was interesting. I don’t typically enjoy alien type romances because I have a pea-sized brain that gets confused very easily. I’ve DNF’d alien books before because when they start going into detail about the different customs and cultures and whatnot, my brain just starts playing the Jeopardy theme song. I just don’t get it. My brain will not process. I was confused a little in this one with mentions of a past war and different races of people, but it wasn’t bad. It also didn’t go into details though so there’s that. It was only a short story, so I’m not sure what it would have been like if it was a full length novel.

With all that being said, I still did enjoy this read. The premise here is that Bryant needed money to get his 13 y/o daughter out of Jail, so he sneaks onto Serihk’s ship to steal something. And then Serihk catches him in the best way. Some things happened that led to Bryant also getting arrested, and Serihk got them out of jail and took them to his ship. I liked watching Bryant and Serihk’s relationship develop, and I enjoyed Bryant’s daughter Astrid. She was so sweet beneath the strong exterior, just like her father. I would’ve liked to see all three of them become a family. I’m sure we will get glimpses of them in the other books in the series.

This story also has some very interesting sex with metal alien tentacles. That’s what drew me to the story in the first place, and I can report that the sex was very good. Super detailed which we love. I need all the details. The amount of sex in this short story was perfect. I don’t know if that made it sound like it was all sex because it wasn’t. There was still a big story and plot going on that I was pretty invested in. It’s not all alien porn.

All in all, this was a fun read. Try it out! Peace, love, and tentacles xoxoxoxo

I hate that shit! When you find a book you like, the world setting is great, you're sooo excited about everything, the MMCs are amazing, they have a fantastic story and the sex is great and THEN the book ends at 90 pages!

Wow, just my luck, really. And I also feel kinda stupid for not knowing we had so many alien books in m/m, I mean alien and monster romances were my main focus when I was reading m/f and I honestly didn't know we had the same thing here, so I wasn't even looking. Stupid, stupid.

🔵 Humans live on another planet in space
🟢 Alien/human
🟡 Both MMCs are mature
🟣 Single dad trope?
🟠 Rags to riches
🌶️ Slow burn, spice is great; t/b

In this book humans were settled on a planet called Tava, but after the takeover from the Klah'eel race, they're now refugees to the tropical planet Carta, where the events are taking place. The wealthier humans have stayed on a part of Tava.

Bryant is that hot af guy on the cover. He's a mature man, has a 13-year old daughter and they're both trying to survive by being petty criminals, usually working for shady gangsters that are using them. They're practically homeless, buying out their freedom with stolen goods.

On one of such endeavors Bryant breaks into a Qeshian ship, the Qeshian race being a very powerful and wealthy one in this Universe. The ship belong to a Qeshian Serihk, who's an emissary and a very powerful, important man. He's tall, elegant and even though perceived as a cold man, he actually has a heart of gold.

Serihk falls for Bryant immediately and tries to help him, to keep him and his daughter safe, but Bryant is a survivor, he's a fighter, he's used to the hard knock life, so he's fighting back, wanting nothing to do with Serihk.

When Bryant is offered a position as a human consultant, working with Serihk on a very important conflict with humans, he eventually accepts the job, but he accepts it because he really wants to be with Serihk. Not for the money, not for the luxury it brings, but because he wants to be where he feels safe and cared for and that's with Serihk.

This is a really slow burn and the sex Bryant and Serihk have is amazing. Passionate, intimate, chemistry palpable and the emotional bond forming believable.

The MMCs were both very interesting and painted a sexy, promising visual, their dialogues were good and realistic, so many minor details that really interested me, so I'm kind of sad we didn't get the full length book here.

That abrupt ending didn't sit right with me, there was a lot more to be said. Such a big potential here with this story, I'm bummed it ended so soon. We got a completely new world Bryant is pushed into, it's something he's never experienced before, he's got a new home, new clothes, a very important job, a poweful partner and I was so, so intrigued as to how he's going to navigate everything, how will the Qeshian society accept Bryant as Serihk's partner, what changes will they implement together? I honestly feel it's such a shame that so much was left out.

Hopefully we'll be seeing them a lot in the future books.

Re-read Aug 2024 - lovely revisit to the beginning of this series, after finishing book 5 I wanted to come and see some characters we now know well from the perspective of others and to see their early interactions. Did not disappoint. Excellent starting point. Just a heads up that this is more spicy than the rest of the series. Definitely more storyline, relationship development and world building in the full length novels in the rest of the series. This is a super fun teaser though, definitely recommend this series it just keeps getting better!

First read Nov 2023
Intriguing prequel. This could have been a great full length novel. Interesting world building, a lot of potential. I just find it hard to love a novella as it’s over so soon. I’ll admit my first thoughts were that I’d stumbled into an erotica novel but the story because more fleshed out after those initial tentacular scenes 😅 I really liked the physical manifestations of the alien MC’s emotions, that was probably my favourite part. Overall I’m disappointed this wasn’t more of a proper story but it has piqued my interest for the rest of the series.

Thanks Lucy for the recommendation!

MM Romance
Alien Tentacles
3.5 Stars Rounded Up ⭐️

I’m not sure how I got on this author’s mailing list but I am and she currently has this novella for free on Amazon (3/18/22). I don’t really read much sci fi/alien books but the reviews all mentioned tentacles and I just couldn’t resist. They were metal tentacles and I was here for it! 😉

This has a lot going on for a novella but the premise is a thief is trying to get his 13 year old daughter out of prison before she’s shipped off and never seen again. He decides to steal from a visiting ship for bail money and gets caught by the man’s built in tentacle security system and they (the tentacles) violate him in all the best ways. It wasn’t what I expected when hearing the word, tentacle, but it sure was kinky. I liked it and I’m going to read the next in series because if it’s half as entertaining as this one, I can’t go wrong.

It was OK, Bryant needed to be b*tchslapped and Serihk needed a hug. Lar'a and Astrid are great, I want a book of their adventures. Extra point for the flexible metal tentacles used for sex.

Surprisingly hot start of an new sci-fi / mm romance series 🔥

I mean - who knew that being caught in a web of neuro-controlled web made of flexible metal can be so… enticing 🔥🔥🔥

I know it sounds strange, but trust me, it was hot and made perfect sense, considering we’re dealing with a (very human-like), highly advanced alien species.

Loved the glimpses of the new world we’re getting to know, and loved the romance between Bryant, the human who tries to steal something from an alien ship to save his daughter, and Serihk, the sophisticated alien emissary who changes colour depending upon what he feels. And who has the unexpected urge to look after the human man he finds in his spaceship 🥰

Loved it, can’t wait to continue the series.

DNF 30%

This is kind of on me as I didn't realize going in that it was a novella and mostly what the author surely envisioned as erotica. All I have to say is that there isn't enough story meat with the sex potatoes. And I didn't find being secured, trapped, and probed with METAL tentacles sexy or erotic in any way, shape, or form. Ouch? As I came to this conclusion at 30%, I held no hope there'd actually be a satisfying, accompanying story.

Walking away...

Good start to a series

3.5 stars rounded up

This was an interesting mix of science fiction, BDSM light, erotica, and a romantic alien. I’m not a big science fiction fan but I enjoyed this short read. There wasn’t a lot of time for in-depth world building so I was left with some questions. However it’s the first of 3 in the series so I expect there will be more information in the future books.

RTC but I enjoyed this one so so much. This was a short and very sexy story that includes metal tentacles and dub con and it was just everything I wanted it to be, it was absolutely lovely.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Dubious consent, off-page police brutality, mentions of colonialism and war

Kink: Unnegotiated domination/submission, tentacles

What started as dubcon alien porn became a love story, and exploring some world-building within the universe Eryn Ivers has created. I enjoyed Ivers writing as I was able to get invested in all the emotions between each character's perspective, and was glad to see this was dual POV.

Character wise, I loved both MCs. I loved the uniqueness of how the alien had color-changing scales to note his emotions, because I was just so fascinated by that as a small detail. Another aspect was how the fact that these characters felt different culturally and by social status - Bryant was a rough and older man who desperately cared for his daughter, and Serikh was an alien who was a bit brash in his want for something he saw in this human.

Sex scenes wise - they were hot, even though I cringed at the lack of lube, especially with metal being involved. Tentacles and the way Serikh connected to them in terms of world-building was super interesting. The sex scene between them was emotional and a tad heartbreaking, even though we do get our HFN. I liked the aspect of Bryant being the bottom despite that Serikh was seen as the "beautiful, elegant" one. It went against the grain and that was nice. Overall, I recommend!

Me the entire time I was reading this:

I stumbled on this series while doom scrolling on here and you can imagine my dismay when I clicked on book 5 (the one I actually wanted to read) to find out I had to read book 1 first and that “book 1” was really book 0.5 (aka the prologue novella).

Here’s how it went:

Page 1: Welp. Another addition to my list of unfinished series
Page 23: He had the sudden urge to do what?? At whose knees???
Page 45: yesssss
Page 65: “Come to my bed”

The End:

The way I snatched up book 2😭 I had absolutely NO BUSINESS dropping everything they way I did for this series

WHY I LIKED THIS
- Serihk and Bryant. Not only was their chemistry📈📈📈they were also both incredibly sweet and (in the end) unashamed of their insatiable need for each other.
- Political intrigue. I came for the alien spice and stayed for the politicking. Granted, it’s not much in this book but the set up for the sequel was so scrumptious I ate every last crumb.

- Writing. I love Eryn Ivers’ writing style. It’s clean, precise and flowed so seamlessly it was literally a movie in my head.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to jump back into book 2.

Calling it quits at 50%. I was speed-reading to hopefully get to the metal tentacle sounding scene, but I don't have time for skimming when I could be reading!

The setting and world-building started off well and I was intrigued. I really enjoyed that part.

The issue came during the first sex scene, and the noncon element is not what ruined it for me. I'm all for a sci-fi metal ship tentacles doing some noncon. But if it's noncon, I want the NON in the con. Instantly, whatshisname is into it, no emotional response, no real trepidation, just ohh cool, I like it.

I need more in my erotica sex scenes.

I will still check out this author's other work because like I said, the world-building was interesting!

Mmmh tentacle smut.

Bryant breaks into Serihk's ship to steal ivory he can sell in exchange for his daughter's release from prison. At first glance, the ship doesn't appear to have much security, but Bryant's guesses are wrong, and he finds himself captured by metal tentacles.

Restraints turn into caresses as Serihk, who controls the tentacles through a neuro-link, notices Bryant's arousal and pliancy. This is definitely dub-con but isn't too dark.

It was super hot. The mind-controlled tentacles are a great addition to the story, and different to other tentacle smut I'd read. It's not just sex though, there is a romantic aspect as Bryant and his daughter move onto the ship with Serihk and they get to know each other.

Bryant’s fears are understandable, but it would have been nice to get some more of his history to justify it. Also where did Astrid come from? What happened to her mother?

I like the physical manifestation of Serihk’s emotions and there are the beginnings of some interesting worldbuilding with political aspects interspersed. This is a prequel book, so I'm expecting that to be further developed later in the series, which I'm looking forward to!

THE ALIEN EMISSARY was a quick read with a ton of spice and a little bit of plot. It set some basic ground work for the rest of the series but the world building was pretty bare bones overall.

The romance was a HFN but I liked Serihk and Byrant together, especially the way Serihk just wanted to care for Bryant and make him melt. I did get a bit frustrated with the way Bryant kept pushing Serihk away but he's also not used to trusting anyone and they had only know each other for a short period of time. I did appreciate that Bryant eventuall realized he was acting out of fear acknowledgd that he wanted to do better.

erotic, tentacle novella

The Alien Emissary is a short introductory story in a world where humans are at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Bryant is a human who is down on his luck and desperate. Despite his self proclamation that he is a terrible thief he decided to attempt a break in of an emissary ship. There he meets the “alien emissary” Serihk whose job it is to help fix the issues between the humans and the Klah’Eel race. It is not all smooth sailing for the couple as Bryant is a very proud man and Serihk has difficulty with the nuances of trying to woo a human. This story ends HFN for the couple. A heads up there is a scene of dub-con at the beginning. While quite an erotic novella it’s not all smut. The author has created a world where I have a lot of questions about the society and what caused the humans to be in the state they are now in. Questions that I’m sure will be answered as the series progresses.

Serihk and Bryant meet under very unusual circumstances. Things go from strangers to more at a very rapid rate. Tentacles are involved and it was unbelievably HOT!

Serihk helps Bryant out of a serious jam as well. Bryant is wary and very untrusting. He has reasons. He’s lived a VERY hard life. This book was short but packed a lot of emotion into a very limited time. Loved it and am looking forward to reading the next book set in the same world.

A great, under 100 pages, erotic romance novella with metal tentacles neurally connected to the alien MC. It starts with a sex scene on the lighter side of dubcon, but there’s then a whole romantic plot that was very cute.

Bryant was such a good dad. He really would do anything to keep his family safe. Serihk was a good being as well, but a little naive, I think.

And the whole thing with the metal and the ship? OMFG so hot!

Well that was fast

I don't quite know why I like this. I just did. It was short but the world was still pretty developed. I felt like I had a pretty idea who the characters were and it was hot. I didn't love how they didn't get together until literally the final paragraph but it's a novella so I guess you can't ask for too much. Four stars because I'm one of those people that likes to see characters together for more than half a sentence. But if you like sci-fi romance novellas, you'll probably enjoy this. And if you don't, it was short so you won't be giving up too much of your time

Metal tentacles? I’m in!

This is a short but well-written sci-fi book with some scorching-hot scenes involving flexible metal tentacles that are controlled by the mind of an alien. I was a little frustrated at the stubbornness/lack of communication about issues that lasted almost until the end, as I would have liked to see their relationship once all barriers were overcome. Still, it definitely showed the start of something great for them, and I’ll plan on looking for more by this author.
