Dr. Frederick Burns, werewolf and cryptozoologist, did not expect to find a new cryptid today. He planned to trek back to his friends and his plane—if he survived his foolish jump out of a doomed helicopter. Instead he gets a snarky swan and an Inuit monster. What else could possibly go wrong?
Jilleen Dolbeare is the author of the Shadow Winged Chronicles, an urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting bush pilot in Alaska.
She loves riding horses, warm ocean beaches, and long walks in the mountains, none of which she can do in the Arctic, so she writes.
Her activities are riding her four-wheeler on cold ocean beaches (often frozen or covered with ice), and long walks to and from work when it’s 40 below—in the dark. She does keep her stakes sharp for those vamps that show up during the 67 days of night.
Jilleen lives with her husband and two hungry cats in Barrow, Alaska where she also discovered her love and admiration of the Inupiaq people and their folklore.
Despite the cover art, this isn't a romance (thank goodness!) Had seen this as a stand-alone, rather than part of a series set, I don't know that I would have picked it up.
Somewhere between a short story and a novella, 'Shadow Wolf' is a second epilogue to 'Shadow Winged' from Dr. Burns' pov. A good vignette of the professor's personality and motivations, but ends with a bit of a cliffhanger which ties directly into 'Shadow Strife', the next book in the series.
This novella takes on the perspective of Dr. Fred Burns and resolves one of the loose ends at the end of the book Shadow Winged. It's a nice treat after the high stakes of the end of the book.
Shadow wolf, part 1.5 of the Shadow Winged Chronicles takes place after Shadow Lair, part .5, and Shadow winged, book 1.
It gives you more insight into the Silla Corporation and the different Shadow Clans that are bound to be major players in the next book, Shadow Strife. It also hints at the existence of some other cryptids like vampires.
Burns has a different character than you're used to in Piper. Still hot headed and a bit of a rascal, which seems to come from their animal instincts, but much more of an emotional father figure. You get a taste of that at the end of Shadow Winged as you watch him transition from awkward cryptozoologist to a strong warrior and father.
A great, easy to read story, to prepare you for the book to come!
This was great! Loved getting insight into Fred, his sense of responsibility for his newly made "son" It might have been a mistake but he cannot escape his duty to Fletcher. There's a lot going on for a novella, a lot of exciting going on's, like he meets Jed, which is actually quite comical and then has an encounter with a "thing" yes, a "thing". Even Fred has a problem identifying it. When the hardened centuries old Fred discovers what it is, how it came to be, he's horrified. My word, so am I! I came to fully understand Fred and his compassion, he's definitely not the cold unfeeling character one is led to believe in the books. Enjoyed this immensely
This is a short story about Fred Burns and his trip back to civilization after jumping out of the helicopter in the end of book 1. Fred is healing from the massive injuries he sustained when he jumped. Finding a small lake that only has a swan floating at the other end, he decides to get clean and rest before he continues. The swan of course, is another shifter who agrees to assist Ben against the Eagle clan. There is also a monster that Fred has to fight, something he has never seen before and is a major battle for him. This gives some more information about Ben, the Silla corporation, and what they might want. A quick, interesting read.
I read these chronicles ones after the series this one needs to be read after book 1 it explain how Fred the Dr knew Jed . think the gang meet them in second book ? . thus book takes place after Free jumps out of the helicopter that Bran boyfriend and bad guys had flown into cabin to take werewolves . and as clean up they piper and him flying into !Mountain range to crash.
I recommend Shadow Wolf by Jilleen Dolbeare that I received through BookFunnel. In this book Dr. Frederick Burns, who is a werewolf, found a new creature. He planned to trek to his friends and plane, after jumping from a helicopter. Instead he gets a snarky swan and an Inuit monster. What else could possibly go wrong? This book is available on Amazon
Short & thoroughly enjoyable second book in the series (1.5) nice follow up to book one which was much longer and more involved. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. The author has an unfortunate habit of writing too when she means to & there are the usual ebook typos and grammatical errors but they're not too bad
This novella was perfect. In addition to letting us know what happened to Fred, it helps sets us up for book two of the Shadow Winged series. It also helps the reader - for me, anyway - find some connection with Fred's character, while also introducing two new and very interesting characters. Reading this novella has me pumped for book two of the series!
Short story fills in some background from the first book in series. Should be read after first full book, but delightful addition after completing the trilogy snywau
For a Novella this book was packed with action and the story actually lead somewheres. Great story building and character development. Hooked me in the first chapter!! I've never read the other books in the series and now I'm intrigued, it's definitely piqued my interest.
