Title: The Haunted Author: Rene M. Gerrits Published by: Tellwell Nips’ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Book Type: Paperback (available on Amazon!) Pairs Well With: Wine and the lights on
Calling all ghost story lovers!! This debut novel by Rene Gerrits is a must-read! I will fully admit this genre is wayyyy out of my comfort zone- but we are on the cusp of fall, there are spooky books out and I wanted to read something other than romance. Great news: this is definitely not a romance!
The Haunted has everything you would expect from a book of its genre: creepy old mansion, paranormal occurrences, believers and nay-sayers, and characters with questionable motives. It also has two loveable lead characters- Will and Richard Stilton- brothers who have created a reputable business called Stilton Paranormal Research Institute.
When the mysterious Mrs. Law requests the Stilton’s brothers help explaining some questionable occurrences at her home, Law Estate, the Stilton brothers arrive ready to face skepticism and the supernatural. They get more than they bargain for!
I enjoyed reading this novel; the writing was beautiful. From the author's descriptions of the characters and settings, to the speech patterns of the characters, I really enjoyed reading Rene Gerrit’s words. Additionally, the lead characters were likeable, and the creepy characters were creepy. I continually found myself thinking “if this were a movie, I’d never make it to this part because I’d be too scared” but I also wished it was a movie!
At only 179 pages long, The Haunted is a must read for the paranormal enthusiast this spooky season! Happy Haunting!
I took a chance on an unknown (to me) writer. Definitely a risk that paid off!
Mr. Gerrits spins an amazing tale that will wrap around you and draw you closer. The world he creates somehow becomes so very real to the reader, enough you can almost hear the sounds... And get spooked when you feel you are right there with the characters as something incredible occurs (not giving away any secrets, you'll have to read it).
I, myself, am certainly hoping there will be more to come. One book just isn't enough.
