Vacations Like This

Rate this book
From a USA Today bestselling author comes a laugh out loud friends to enemies to lovers romantic comedy!

Kimber

Some people view nosiness as a character flaw. I prefer to think of it as a useful skill. Like a sixth sense or intuition. It’s my super power. And since I became a reporter for my small town newspaper, I like to think my super power puts bagels on my table.

A tiny (quite big, actually) mistake has me eagerly accepting a contract job investigating a resort being built in a small Colorado town.

But there’s one small problem. (6’4” according to his license—maybe my nosiness does go too far sometimes.)

What I didn’t count on was being double-booked in a cabin with Mack Boone.

Our families have known each other since high school, so it feels wrong to kick him out of my cabin.

Besides...he’s kind, he’s protective, and a great kisser.

Three qualities I admire in a man.

But when I find out why he is in town, I realize I’ve made yet another mistake.

No more kissing, Kimber. He’s the enemy.

Lines are drawn. (Literally.)

Wars fought.

Hills sledded.

Lips kissed. Oh right, I wasn't going to do that one anymore. Maybe I'll call it research…

The more I investigate the resort, the more time I spend with Mack...the more I wonder what I'm really fighting against. The more I wonder if I can take a chance on love.

What if the villain is really the hero in this story?

It’s rare that a rom-com just doesn’t work for me at all. But this was one of those times.

Two strangers, Kimber and Mack, both booked into the same vacation rental in a tiny dot of a small town in Colorado. Each coming to this little berg with very separate agendas. Mack is there to help in the construction of a new resort to attract more tourism. Kimber is planning on penning an article in the hopes of preventing the resort from ruining the charm of this quaint town.

Well, you can see the tropes here…. enemies to lovers…and close confinement (as in stuck together.) Normally, I enjoy both but something was lacking. I’ll start with chemistry… just no magic at all😔. The interactions between the two characters just felt awkward and lacking authenticity. The storyline in general just failed to grab me. I wasn’t drawn to this small town, or the fight over the resort.

Perhaps it’s my own fault. This is book four of a series and I‘ve not read the previous three. (Over-looked when I entered this giveaway). So perhaps I was doomed to have a lack of connection.💁🏻‍♀️

Kimber is a small town journalist/reporter and is in a new town to investigate a new resort that is being built. Because of this, she rents out a local cabin while she is on her working holiday.

However there has been a mixup with the booking and so walks in to her cabin one day to see Mack going through her fridge. It turns out he is also on a working holiday and rented out the same cabin.

As there are no other cabins available, they agree to be roommates for the next 3 weeks that they are working.

This book had such a strong start, Kimber made me laugh so much and I just loved the banter between her and Mack. They had great chemistry from when they first met.

But about 50% of the way in, it kind of fizzled out for me. It got a little boring and to be honest, there wasn’t anything that made me want to keep reading. I had hoped that it would get better as the book went on but it left me wanting more.

This book would have been a two star rating for me if it hadn’t been for the first 4-5 chapters, of which I really enjoyed.

One thing I don’t understand is that the synopsis describes this is an enemies to lovers… lol where🥴?? There was definitely no enemies to lovers in this book, that I’m sure of.

Anyway it was enjoyable while it lasted but definitely wouldn’t read again.

Thank you NetGalley for providing the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Vacations Like This is the cutest thing I've read so far this month. They made me laugh like a fool. It was a quick read, but it was definitely worthwhile. You'll be smitten with forced proximity and roommates to lovers after reading this amusing rom-com. The little moments in this book is what makes it so memorable.

While on leave from work, Kimber rents out a cabin in Colorado. She's a journalist/reporter who's been sent to investigate the new resort that's coming to town, as well as finding out what the locals say and write about it. She had been alone in the cabin for three days before the intruder entered and nearly ate her nacho cheese in the fridge.

It turns out he wasn't an invader, but rather a booking error, and Mack will now be staying with her. Mack, on the other hand, is on his own working vacation. Despite the fact that Kimber has told him why she is here, Mack has remained silent about what he is doing. Especially now that he knows she's displeased with the resort's arrival *hint hint*.

It's all in good fun until she discovers what he's really up to. And she makes every effort to be enraged by him. However, seeing her try to appear upset while keeping her smile hidden is arguably the sweetest thing ever. As the story progresses, their attraction grows stronger. They really have my heart. I wish we got more.

1.5 ⭐️ A bad Hallmark Christmas story with an unlikable, childish FMC.

I received an e-ARC of this story on NetGalley in November 2021, and I finally finished in October 2022. Better late than never, right??

But honestly, I wish I didn't even waste my time finishing. You would think I'd have enjoyed this book considering it was forced proximity and light 'enemies' to lovers. However, this completely missed the mark.

Before I go further, I want to say that the premise is cute and was only enhanced by the small-town setting and winter season. I also think the author's writing style is pretty good and makes for an easy reading experience.

However . . .

I HATED Kimber, the FMC. It's been a long time since I've had such strong, negative feelings about any character, so it was a bit of a shock this would happen while reading a rom-com. But from Kimber's idiotic reasoning to her blatant crossing of boundaries, there is not a single thing I liked about her. She's just so annoying!!! She always jumps to the worst conclusions and then defends her actions in childish ways.

For my sanity, I cannot go back through and list everything I found problematic about Kimber. But here are some notes I took in the Kindle app about her and the sh*t she pulls. Enjoy!

- Why is she always squeaking around him?
- Wow, she's incredibly immature
- God, she's a child.
- OMG, she's so f*cking ridiculous and annoying.
- What an idiot!
- How is someone who's a reporter so delusional and biased?
- Ugh, not the "I'm so pretty that people don't take me seriously" reason.
- Kill me.
- I can't.
- She's so dumb.
- I hate her.
- RED FLAG ALERT! She stole his phone and went through it?! And they're not even dating??? WTF!
- She's f*cking crazy!
- Did he seriously just tell her he loves her???? After all that?!?

Also, the actual drama of the resort coming to the small town was pointless and all led by Kimber's crazed notion that the resort would destroy the town and the owners were shady. There was no reason for her to think that, and obviously, it wasn't true, so all her anger towards Mack for working on the resort and her signing petitions to have it stopped made her seem like a total idiot. Oh, and she's not even from the town!!! So why would she have this bias?? She should do her job as a reporter and gather facts before making any conclusion.

This entire story just played out like a BAD Hallmark Christmas movie, and I was not about it. But if you want to read something lighthearted and cheesy during the holidays, then this might be something you'd enjoy.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing an e-ARC copy in exchange for an honest review! As always, all opinions are my own.

This was a quick, funny and sweet read.

Tropes that I enjoyed:
✨Roommates to Lovers
✨Dual POV
✨Forced Proximity

Accidentally roommates due to a mix up with bookings, Kimber and Mack now need to share a cabin. They have no other choice but to stick it through for the next 3 weeks, and this will either lead them to killing each other, or falling head over heels for one another.

I enjoyed the beginning a lot, though I did struggle a bit with the chemistry between the two, made me wish I read the first 3 books so I had more background. Half way through I found myself getting bored and skimming. The storyline generally just didn’t grab my as much as I wanted to be invested.

Overall, not great but not bad either.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Vacations Like This is my first book by Carina Taylor and I can safely say it won’t be my last! When Kimber is sent out on an assignment to investigate the new building in small town, Colorado she stays in the house of a friend of a friend. The only problem? The house is double booked. Mack is also supposed to stay in the vacation rental for a work project. When these two are stuck together and snowed into their forced space you can be sure that hilarity will ensue. Full of prank wars, laughs, and lots of slipping and sliding, this book is perfect to read curled up under a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa. This slow-burn forced proximity romance is closed door and oh-so-sweet! I can’t wait to read more of Taylor’s backlist!

I loved getting to write Mack and Kimber's story. I've been looking forward to writing Mack's story for a loooong time now, and can I just say...it was as much fun as I expected! 😍

Mack and Kimber are PERFECT for each other. Of course it takes a little bit of time (and pranks...and kissing...and personal growth) to realize this.

If you love:
sassy characters
cinnamon roll heroes
nosy people
accident prone heroine's
great chemistry
low-key pranking

Then you should definitely read Vacations Like This. 💕

This was a cute book, a very quick read. Kimber works for a small town Louisiana newspaper and goes to Colorado to investigate a resort that’s being built in a state town. She’s staying at a friends’s cabin; unfortunately it’s been double booked and Mack, a surveyor friend the same Louisiana town, comes to stay too. They’re very attracted to one another and slowly start flirting and having fun in the snow.

Kimber has tendency to blow things out of proportion, and she’s soon putting together a protest. She’s angry at Mack for doing the surveying for the resort and sees him as the enemy.
Kimber really wants to make a difference by exposing corruption but this passion means she jumps to conclusions. Mack is a genuinely good guy who’s trying to do his job.

Kimber needs to rein herself in and they need to figure out what their relationship looks like away from the vacation bubble and back in Louisiana.
The book was well written and had charming characters, but the plot was simplistic. I loved all the pranks they pulled on each other. 3 stars.

There's nothing better than a meet-cute and this one was hilarious. From the moment Kimber and Mack met, sparks fly and not always in a good way. But...those sparks fan the flames of attraction that lead to some of the funniest pranks and darling banter I've read about in awhile.

A mistake causes Kimber and Mack to be roommates for a vacation and when they discover they have connections and a common cause, although opposite sides of that cause, all bets are off and the games begin.

I love a story with solid characters that make me swoon. Mack is a big softie and although he needs to learn some boundaries, he stole my heart. Kimber is a little feisty, yet her passionate heart is in the right place. This feel-good story was easy and so much fun to settle into.

Content: mild romance; very mild innuendo

I really enjoyed this book. At first it was a bit hard to get into, I felt like the character's interest in each other was forced but as I kept going I really grew to love their interactions. There's humor, fluff and romance, forced proximity, etc. Definitely something to pick up on Jan. 2, 2022, when it comes out :)

Vacations Like This is the newest rom com by Carina Taylor and has all the characteristics I appreciate in a book by this author. She knows how to write a sweet, clean romance with fun banter and great chemistry. In this particular story, it was a forced proximity trope when Kimber and Mack end up in the same vacation rental due to a mix up. What ensues are lots of laugh out loud situations and hilarious banter between them. This is the fourth book in the series, but can definitely be read as a standalone without any problems.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Vacations Like This by Carina Taylor
A perfect pick-me-up book, Vacations Like This is the final in the Like This series and also leads into an upcoming series! The Boone family is hilarious and I loved this story. Mack is one of the Boone cousins, and I was so excited to read his story! Kimber is taking a much needed contract job investigating a resort in a small town, after a teeny (not really) mistake in her reporter job. Finding that she is in a double-booked cabin was not part of the plan, especially when the other resident is Mack Boone. He is kind and protective, but once she realizes the reason he is there, Kimber puts a hard barrier between them. As time passes, Kimber begins to realize that she may have reacted too quickly, and messed up her chance at love.
This was so cute! It was a quick read that I think I finished in like a day! Kimber is such a funny narrator. I loved reading her thoughts. She was nosy, tried her best, and was so sweet. She had made a mistake and was scrambling in the aftermath. With Mack, it was so fun to read. Mack was a returning character from the earlier books in the series. The Boone family is so fun and reminds me of my family sometimes (although we are much smaller)! He wasn’t as exuberant as some of the cousins, but was honestly just as weird and crazy. It was fun to read about him in a different context too. He was such a sweetheart to Kimber and they were super cute together! I definitely related to his character growth too!
Overall, I would so recommend this book! It was fun and lighthearted. It is part of a series, but it could be read stand-alone. I definitely recommend reading it in order though! It is just more fun to know all the characters and know some context. This is a closed-door romance that I would recommend to teens and up! It is not super steamy but has some innuendoes.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to strangle someone over the breakfast table. If you’re not careful, I might try it out today.”

Kimber needs to get away from her job at the local newspaper for bit, so when Lara wants her to go to the small town in Colorado she has a cabin in to investigate a resort that’s being built, Kimber readily agrees. Lara is even letting her stay at her cabin. But there’s a mix up in the scheduling and Lara’s son, Hagen, also told his friend, Mack, that he could stay in the cabin. Mack seems like a nice guy, and the cabin is plenty big, so they decide to be roommates. Everything is going well, until Kimber realizes that Mack is working for the resort that she is determined to stop from ruining the small town.

I really enjoyed this book! Carina’s writing and storytelling is alway so good! The things that Kimber and Mack do to each other are so funny! And it’s fun to see some of the Boone cousins make appearances here and there. I think this is my second favorite book in the A Love Like This series. Neighbors Like That is hard to beat for me!

Content note: mild language

Small town journalist, Kimberly rents out a cabin in the Colorado mountains for her working vacation. She expected this to be peaceful work thingy but what she didn't expect was for a double booking mix-up which led her to share a cabin with the gorgeous Mack.

"My suitcase. Check.
My self-respect. Check.
My heart. Left on the porch in the hands of the man watching us leave."

This was a sweet little take on close proximity and roommates-to-lovers trope.
Kimberly & Mack's meet-cute was hilarious & I was laughing the whole time & even after that.
Due to the mix-up & no other available rooms, they both decide to stay in the same cabin & this begins the start of a new relationship.

I loved how they were so comfortable around each other, as friends and also after knowing they were on the opposite ends of their respective jobs.
The rivals job was a good take on the plot & these 2 were just too cute to begin with.
The fact that there wasn't any unnecessary conflict or breakup made me like it even more.

Vacations Like This by Carina Taylor had the ingredients for a breezy, escapist romantic comedy—sunshine, humor, a fake relationship trope, and a vacation setting. Unfortunately, while the premise was promising, the execution left me wanting more.

The story follows a predictable arc, which isn't always a bad thing in rom-coms, but here it felt overly safe and lacking in spark. The characters were fine, but they didn’t stand out or leave a lasting impression. I found myself struggling to stay engaged with the plot, which often felt more like a series of mildly amusing moments rather than a compelling narrative.

Not terrible but not memorable 2.5 sorry :/

This one was real cute. I love forced proximity and them being cabin mates on vacation was a fun take on this. Mack Boone is a gem that needs to be protected at all costs. I thought he was a great balance for Kimber and he was just so sweet and thoughtful. But I loved how he realized he needed to set some healthy boundaries in his life before he could pursue something serious with Kimber.

This is a closed door romance with no language and minimal innuendo.

Kimber is on a nice relaxing winter (working) vacation in a snowy Colorado cabin when suddenly shes not so alone. It seems this stranger she finds in her kitchen is Mack... whose also booked to stay in this cabin. Oops! They agree to share the vast cabin and though they're both in town working with opposing views on a new resort coming to town... their attraction and ensuing prank war begins.

Overall I liked this story. I think I just wanted a bit more passion and a bit more angst.

Read if you like:

Forced proximity
Roommates to lovers
Snowy Cabin vibes
Opposing viewpoints/work
Prank wars
Dual POV
Fiesty and funny leading lady
Adorable and calm male lead

⭐⭐⭐💫 (I liked it)

Carina Taylor is one of my auto-buy authors and I just love her books. I’ve been dying to read her next book and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it early.

This book was hilarious. I laughed a lot and it was just the perfect vacation read. It was lighthearted fun, but it had some great character growth.

Mack learned what healthy boundaries look like and Kimber learned about about integrity and honesty. My major revolves around journalism so I loved seeing that profession in a book through Kimber’s job!

There was one time where I really wanted to give Kimber a stern talking to, but I just loved reading this book

✨"Well?" he asked. "Well, what?" It was fun watching him squirm. "Well, is your relationship status going to change?" "I don't know. No one has asked me out. I don't see how my relationship status could change. I mean if you really want to go on vacation with me, you could just ask." He started, "I-" I interrupted him. "I do know a couple guys I could jump into a relationship with real fast so that you can go on vacation with me." He narrowed his eyes at me and reached inside the car to unlock the door. Pop. He opened the door. "I'm trying to ask you out on a date."✨

I’ve been loving this series so much and this book wasn’t any different! I absolutely love Kimber & Mack just as much as the other characters!! Their banter and the fridge war had me dying 😂

I also get extremely happy every time the characters from the previous books are mentioned because I just love them all SO MUCH

I cant wait to complete the series, even though I know I’ll be so sad to finish 🥲

This is book four of the A Love Like This series and the main characters are Kimber Lyons, a small town community events reporter, and Mack Boone, a surveyor. They are both from the small town of Charlesville, Louisiana and he knew one of her older sisters in high school. Through separate contacts, they have both ended up booked into the same Colorado cabin. He is there to lead a team of surveyors working on the new roads needed to build the new Mountain Pine resort, whilst Kimber has been sent to investigate the small town resident’s feelings about a resort coming into town and the possible negative effects it would have on the area. Kimber had already been there three days, when Mack turned up and was caught raiding the fridge. There is nowhere else that either of them can stay, as everything is fully booked and there isn’t a hotel of any kind closer than about an hour away! Luckily the cabin is very spacious and has numerous bedrooms, even one on the ground floor, which Mack takes as he has an Achilles heel injury that is still healing. Kimber was already set up in one of the rooms upstairs. She talks about the resort and how bad it would be for the small town and how corrupt the business behind it must be, leaving Mack to hide that he has been hired by that very company!
They agree to make the most of it and Kimber is stuck trying to ignore how good looking Mack is and how kind and helpful he is about everything. She is a nosy person by nature, which suits her in her job as a reporter, but she has come to realise after an error on a previous story that was published by her boss without being finalised and checked, that she much prefers to write about all the small community news that makes the town tick and the people within it. She finds out he is very protective of people and goes out of his way to help any of his extended family, which is huge by the way, often having no time left to himself for what he might want to do. They both start to fall for the other and she finds out he is a great kisser. But finally discovering what he has been hiding from her and his role with the new resort, makes him her enemy! They soon start being quite childish about supplies and more, leading to some funny incidents, one with a shower and no towels. She was sent to write a negative impact story about the coming resort, in an attempt to have it stopped, but the more she finds out about the company’s other resort and their approach to working with the town and not against them, makes her change her mind. Mack is growing on her and is almost all she can think about, but she has to go back to work and get her boss to print a retraction, or quit! He can’t stop thinking about her and misses her when she leaves, but she has also fixed an issue for him that he never realised he had, freeing ore time up for himself and what he wants to get done. All those around them seem to think they are a couple already and push them to get sorted on the romance front. A HEA ending for the two who met as strangers and were forced to share a cabin, whilst on different sides of a resort coming to town and its benefits or damages it would cause. A very playful storyline and characters perfect for their roles within it. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

A cozy, feel-good romcom! Perfect for curling up near the fire and enjoying a winter day.

Carina Taylor’s books are the very first ones I devoured when I first got KU in 2020. She is the queen of this specific genere and I’ve been eager for this book since finishing the other three.

It’s part of a series but it’s not necessary to read them to enjoy this one.

One thing about this author’s book are that you always remember how they made you feel. Even after nearly two years of pandemic induced binge reading, I always remember laughing out loud and equally swooning over the first two books in the series.

I enjoyed being ‘dropped’ in the middle of this book and being immediately hooked. Mack and Kimber are immediately interested in each other, after getting over the whole chip burglar fiasco, but find that despite their forced proximity, there are still obstacles in their way.

It’s a perfect cozy winter read full of spark and all the feels.

The end author note said, “I hope that it brought a goofy smile to your face along with an awkwardly loud laugh.” It definitely did.

Mack may be my favorite hero from the series. He has a hero complex and Kimber is just what he needs. They compliment each other so well and help each other overcome their personal hurdles. Loved seeing a sensitive main male protagonist filling a role typically attributed to women.

A sweet spot is we get to catch up with other characters!

It’s a perfect cozy winter read full of spark and all the feels. A must-read! If you only read one in the series, make it this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book releases January 4

Reader’s Notes:

– this book is book 4 in a series, but you do not need to read the other books to understand this one

– there is one use of “dumbass”

– (past event) a character lost their sibling due to a car crash

– we hear from both Kimber and Mack’s points of view

Review:

This is such a funny book! I loved book one (Neighbors Like This) and this was just as funny as that one! There’s even a few pranks pulled between our main characters when they aren’t so happy with one another (well, Kimber isn’t so happy. Mack is amused by her retaliations and likes riling her up 😂). The other funny aspects are due to overactive imaginations, poking fun at one another, and a bunch of other things 😂. It’s soooo good!

Kimber and Mack both know someone who owns a cabin in a small town near where they need to be for a current job and are given permission to stay in said cabin. Unfortunately, these people didn’t communicate properly about letting someone stay in the cabin and are told they can both stay in the exact same cabin. It makes for a scary and awkward morning when Kimber wakes up to a guy going through her fridge.

With nowhere else to go, and knowing each other’s family members, they decide to share the cabin. But when the reasons they are staying there come to light, lines are drawn and a battle commences. Who will be victorious? And who is tempted to step past their lines in the name of love?

Which is more important? Love or war?
