Angela Miller is a small-town vet... who also happens to be a shifter from an even smaller pack in Prescott, Arizona.
After her parents disappeared, she's decided to try to figure out her own life in her own way. A human man derails those plans and she finds out some shocking information after figuring out she's now pregnant.
One - he wasn't human
and Two - he may be involved with the missing shifters all over the world… including her parents.
Instead of sticking around, she moves to the other side of the country and focuses on her true secret and distances herself from humans - she's a healer. And no one can know.
Her best friend and his parents follow along for the ride, and hopefully life can only look up from here. Right?
Lightning Strikes, an 81k word novel, is the first book in The Healer trilogy. This is a reverse harem, meaning the main character has more than three love interests and doesn't have to choose. Why choose, anyway?
This book is intended for readers over the age of 18. There may be triggers for sensitive readers, including, strong language, mature adult content, and situations.
Also includes: shifters, fae, gorgeous men, and adventures.
3,5 stars actually I got really intrigued by this book, i liked the heroine Angela she was mature and knew what she wanted. Down to earth as well. I really liked her bond with Mac, her bestie, lover, the one who is always there for here. That ending leaves us with no cliffhanger if i would say so. But more in the dark, the unknown. I did not really expect that, what Angela was turning out to be, even tho it´s nothing new. I am interested to see how this is going down, to follow her journey to discover who she is.
3.25 This was entertaining, but there were A LOT of plot holes. For instance, the MFC has healing powers, which basically gives her unlimited power (mind erasing, blood boiling etc.), but she chooses not to use the power because it may be unethical to do so 🤷♀️ meanwhile children are getting hurt and she's not reading anyone's minds?? It was interesting enough though that I'll probably read the next one if it's out (but not interesting enough to remember to read it if it's not out)
The first person/3rd person fluctuations are distracting. And the grammar errors, I can't tell if the author uses dictation software that didn't catch all the words or if English isn't their native language. Oddly turned phrases, dropped conjunctives, swapped homonyms, janky punctuation, and a host of other issues make me itch for a red pen lol. The story is another variation of " I thought I was ___ but find out I'm ___". In this case shifters are lesser fae. They only have 2 forms: human or wolf, and no magic. The world building claims that all higher fae abandoned Earth and closed the portals without warning. Her parents taught her to hide her abilities and hate the higher fae. Which isn't explained, or given rationality in this book. I also don't understand the pack structures. Alphas that aren't alphas? Are alphas rare? We only see 2 in the whole book and they are both weak. Mac, a beta, is stronger and more protective than either of them. And for a suspicious, analytical person Angela sure misses a lot of details. The story concept was interesting. The world building scant but enough that you aren't completely clueless. Character development is non-existent. They don't change, grow, or evolve. Their circumstances change but they don't. The plot is slow developing and vague. The writing would be better with more fleshing out of the characters, more bonding moments, less time jumping, and some interesting interactions instead of mostly general daily activities. And Mac basically offering Ang up to the guards was very strange. Their whole relationship felt off and not at all organic. The Cal angle felt more natural than her relationship with Mac. And I'm pretty sure Max and Max had their names switched a few times lol. And Angela was Addy briefly.
This didn't feel like a reverse harem. It was more like a loving relationship with one guy, a one night stand with a different guy who was absent from 95% of the book, and then vague flirtations that never progressed further than a neck rub with 4 other completely interchangeable guys that never had a single meaningful conversation with the MC on page. Instead, we got throw-away sentences about how the MC stayed up all night getting to know them. Good for her, but I as a reader still know more about the MC's kitten than I do about her supposed love interests. Those 4 guys may as well just have been cardboard cutouts used as props for the MC to be able to talk yet again about how monogamy isn't for her. Show don't tell.
Also, this book needed a lot of editing. There were distracting grammar and punctuation issues everywhere, and one chapter title used the wrong name (Addy) to refer to the MC (Angela).
I was looking forward to this book because I love books in which the MC being pregnant is an actual part of the plot, with complicated feelings about it and realistic related health issues and dangers. This did not feel like a book with a pregnant MC. She didn't have any symptoms except tiredness, and she didn't really spend a lot of time thinking about the baby except to decide she needed to leave her pack and to complain about not being able to drink. I know everyone reacts to being pregnant in different ways. I'm just bummed because it's somewhat rare to find an RH book with a pregnancy plot, and I found this one, but then it was missing all the things I enjoy about that plot element. It was just disappointing. I won't read book 2.
It was a great story in general.... But it seemed very discombobulated. You blink and somehow jumped four steps ahead. That made it kinda difficult for me to really connect with the story. Then there were the characters. If they were just polished up a little and focused on anything I would habe loved them. Since the general theme and storyline of the book was really good. It just felt like the author was drunk off energy drinks and got too excited to focus on any one thing. I'm not going to lie, it was a little frustrating and I almost didn't finish but I pushed through and kinda just filled in blanks and made up things for myself to finish the story. Hopefully the next book is more focused because even though some things were predictable there were good aspects too.
Delightful surprise. The final in this trilogy just came out and I discovered the first two books have been out a while. It is well edited now and smoothly written. I found the plot refreshing and fun. Our heroine is a 33 year old wolf shifter who went to human veterinary school and has a successful clinic near her very small pack. She has always kept her special healing abilities secret, but magically heals the animals behind closed doors. Her loving but aloof parents disappeared several years ago. Rebounding from her three year relationship because he cheated on her, she has a one night stand with a handsome human passing through town. Turns out nothing is how it seems. There are several entertaining plot lines which I assume will create the next two books.
OMMFG I had a feeling not all was as it seemed and I am glad I was correct!! Those last few chapters were very informative and while it answered some questions, it caused a whole bunch more. I need the next book's because thing's are heating up.
This was a crazy one. I can’t believe what just went down. I don’t like cal all that much especially after finding out more about him. I can’t wait to read what happens next.
