In August 2015, Aaron Reed attempted to board a Copa Airlines flight bound for S.E. Asia with over three kilos of pure Colombian cocaine hidden in his luggage. He never arrived.
He spent the next three years buried in La Modelo-- Colombia’s most feared and treacherous prison. The incarceration and healing process proved to be one of the worst, and best experiences of his life. This memoir graphically describes the lived experience of an addict and the underworld surrounding substance abuse but culminates with an inspirational discussion of the possibilities of transformation and emergence from this life. The book is especially relevant given the scope and tragedy of the current opioid crisis in America. -Dr. Ellen Bassuk, Founder of C4 Innovations and President of The Bassuk Center
Aaron Reed’s memoir is a harrowing tale of one man’s journey into the darkness of drug addiction and his subsequent hopeful steps into the light. A riveting story about the depths of dependance and absolution. -Sarah Chaves, Fulbright Scholar, writer, editor, educator
This is not a romance novel. Aaron’s writing brought me to tears countless times. This is the first book that I’ve read about addiction that reached into my soul and understood what it’s like to be in a dimension only other addicts know. Everyone could learn from this book and maybe get a glimpse of just how twisted our thought processes become under meth’s influence. Aaron’s honest and forthcoming experiences helped me to look into the mirror and see two images with two distinct and completely opposite personalities and face the truth. Addiction hurts everyone! The active addict doesn’t see it, feel it, or even acknowledge it. It’s not in our scope of thought. Thank you Aaron Reed for strengthening my resolve to stay clean and stay honest with myself and others and to face the truth about our lives…
Another in the Fire was a raw, honest and emotional journey revealing how addiction can change and destroy a person. It is also a hopeful story of God's love and redemption. I had a hard time putting it down and finished reading it in just a few days. The story is truly riveting and the writing style very engaging.
I was unable to put it down. It is grim and harsh and really well written, showing you places that exist both out in the world and inside a man's mind and that you don't want to see. But there's always hope...
The author takes you down the spiral of addiction and gives a daring look at the path of powerlessness in the fray. The path to redemption brings hope for any addict struggling to be free. Thanks Aaron Reed for offering an answer for those who struggle every day. Vivian Rose
Keeps you on the edge wondering what's gonna happen next, I recommend it to the youth and those in need of a good book to read. With real life situations that will mark you forever. I lived my self, thank God I survived it.
Aaron was my highschool English teacher and to read about what he has gone through and overcome was harrowing and impressive! The novel is very well written and I could feel his struggles through the page. Great job Mr.Reed! Looking forward to the next one!
