I seriously could not put this book down nor did I want to!!!

Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of reading and reviewing four of Becky Flade’s books, which compromised of her entire book series, “The Fated Series.” I have loved every single one, each for a different reason, but they all have been exemplary and satisfying reads!! So, when I saw she had a new book out, I jumped at the chance of getting dibs on her new book – and just as I expected, it was another homerun!!

This book follows the main character, Lexi, who is deeply hurting and still grieving over the loss of her husband, Robert, to suicide. Lexi is a police detective in Philadelphia and although her solve rate is higher than most, her jacket full of citations and very few complaints, she has a problem with authority – and that is more than equally documented in her file. While Lexi is still clearly circling through the five stages of grief, her behavior at times becomes a bit erratic, and it is brought to the attention that she may be a danger to herself or others. Therefore, an undercover officer is placed as her new partner to investigate her abilities and determine if she is truly capable of being on active duty.

This book also follows the main character, Xavier, a loner-type who is a no-strings, no commitment, jumps from city to city, with no attachments and no worries. Philadelphia is just another pit stop on his journey, and he has no plans of sticking around or getting attached to anything or anyone. His latest assignment has him partnering up with Lexi, but what she doesn’t know that he’s also assessing her ability to do her job and keep her emotions in check. While this seems like just another post for Xavier, another day sussing out the good cops from the ones that need to be removed either from being corrupt or not fit for duty, Lexi and Xavier’s very first case takes them to a profoundly sad scene – the murder of a young child. How can anyone be expected to be able to hide their emotions over such a tragedy?!

One of the things I have always loved about Flade’s writing, which is also present in this book, is her vivid imagery details. Flade’s writing style completely immerses you into her storytelling and keeps you hanging on every word. I feel like when I read her books, I’m not just reading them, I can easily see them playing out in my head – like a mini-movie feature. And I imagine that if Flade ever did turn these books into movies, my version and her version would be spot on.

I also love that this book is truly character driven!! These characters are relatable, likable, and genuine!! Flade writes characters that are strongly developed and play well off each other. She uses the precise amount of wit, tension, chemistry, and empathy to create the perfect character interactions, connections, and relationships.

This book is full of strong, deep emotional elements that are sure to take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster ride!! As this book delves into many sensitive issues, fair warning, you may want to keep a box of Kleenex tissues nearby.

Like with Flade’s other books, I also enjoyed how many book genres she was able to cross into this intriguing read!! While I feel this book’s key highlights are mainly the romance and the psychological realism, followed by, then of course the mystery, suspense, and thriller trio that tie into the murder investigation. This book certainly has a lot to offer a reader that is looking for a creative, complex, and engaging read!!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!! I think all romantic, suspense readers will like this book too!! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!!

P.S. ~ I also loved the dedication!! It was very sweet, and totally brought a big smile!!

Well done Philly PD mystery/thriller

Detective Lexi Danvers is considered a loose cannon by people on the force, ever since her husband assaulted a restrained suspect and was suspended. Then he killed himself. Lexi found the body and she's carried the guilt of living and his stained reputation in the department alone. She punishes herself by living wild and rough, and acting the B**** at work and sometimes to her friends. Enter her new partner, Xavier Knight, newly transferred to Philadelphia from Boston. He's unflappable when it comes to her behavior but not when his first day in town takes them to the scene of a murdered child. Lexi is sure the man known as Arthur Book is responsible. Trouble is, Book is the man her husband beat half to death and even questioning him in general is not allowed. This inspires more frustration for Lexi, more acting out, more concern for her welfare.

Xavier, unknown to any except the head of IA, is a kind of roving inspector. He goes department to department helping them determine who might be crooked or a danger—to themselves and others—in departments. For fifteen years he's wandered from city to city. Now he's in Philly to partner with Lexi and find out if she's stable or a bomb ready to explode under the power of her own anger of the things that have happened in her life. For the first time, Xavier is attracted enough to a woman to entertain dangerous thoughts, about having a home, stability, a woman. Right now, however, he has to try to fulfill the promise he made to a little boy whose brother lay dead on the street while making sure the woman he's beginning to love doesn't destroy herself or the case they are building against a heinous murderer. It's a toss-up as to whether either can be done.

Well done, Ms. Flade! I read this book in one day and enjoyed every moment from beginning to end. The author built a cadre of very interesting characters and wove their strengths and weaknesses into a compelling story that definitely kept my interest. I've read most of Ms. Flade's Fated series and enjoyed them, but this is a different class of story altogether. I'll be reading the first book, and looking for the third. Highly recommended!

I received this book as an arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade.
This a new-to-me author, so I was excited to dive into her story and see what she could do. Being a romantic suspense, this book promised all the ingredients that I look for in an enticing read. The story is a well woven with a tight and intriguing plot. There’s a crime and investigation element, with mystery, drama, danger, chemistry, and plenty of sizzle.
Lexi is a homicide detective with the reputation of being a bit of a loose cannon. She is a woman on a mission as she pursues a child killer and is determined to take him down.
Xavier is on an undercover assignment to investigate whether Lexi is fit for duty. He is placed as her partner and things get interesting very quickly- what ensues makes for a very engrossing read.
This may have been my first read by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Becky Flade!

I’ll admit – this is a new author to me. I was intrigued by the synopsis of the book and decided to dive right in to it. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the book immensely. There is mystery and drama – complex characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. It is a dark story of a detective who lost her husband to suicide and who works hard to maintain her sanity…while dealing with her workload and coworkers. The story leads you into the lives of a detective and the search for a suspected child killer. The emotions of losing a child can be felt in the words so vividly written and woven thru the story line by the author. I would recommend this book if you enjoy a good mystery – I could hardly put the book down. Now to go back and read the first book in the series.

⭐Fall to Pieces is a romantic suspense that’s impossible to put down. I have neither the words nor the talent to adequately describe how much I enjoyed reading this book and that's why I took so much time to finish this book because I didn't want to end it.

⭐The best thing about this book is the characters, whether it's Lexi or Xavier. Lexi is a detective who is haunted by her late husband, though she is a bold and strong detective. Xavier was not sure about Lexi, so he tries to find out if she is good enough to be a detective. When Lexi and Xavier are partnered together, the first case they get is a case of child homicide. I found myself anxiously turning the page, worried about what is going to happen next. Each page is well-spun with action and the kind of suspense that forces the reader to turn to the next page. It was so exciting to imagine what is going to happen next. As the story progresses, it gets better and better, the plot really gets going and it had me gripped! The whole book is fabulously written, I really loved the writing style of this author. The plot was highly enjoyable, and that ending is pretty good.

⭐This book is really awesome for so many reasons that you will know when you will read the whole book. The writing style is impressive and the characters are well developed. With so many great twists and turns, this book is worth reading. Whether or not your mind is blown, you will not end up feeling disappointed with the book. I don't really have anymore words to describe why I love this book so much.

⭐Overall, I really loved it. This is a very well written novel and it is a delight to read. If you love murder mystery, suspense with some sort of romance..this book is a great read! Highly recommended!

Homicide Detective Alexandra Danvers is still dealing with the death of her husband in more ways than one. According to the department, Lexi has become a loose cannon. They are afraid to investigate Lexi themselves as she has friends in high places.

The department brings in police corruption specialist, Detective Xavier Knight to go undercover as Lexi’s partner. They need to know if Lexi is a danger to herself and or others.

Detective Xavier Knight has some baggage of his own that he has been carrying around for a long time. Xavier has no home, family, or friends so he goes where ever duty calls.

Xavier’s first day on the job and they are called out to a homicide of a little boy. Lexi and Xavier work together to find who killed the little boy. Lexi has a suspect but the killer is very smart with not leaving behind much evidence for them to follow.

Fall to Pieces was filled with suspense and mystery that kept me on my toes as each page was turned. Fall to Pieces is a fast-paced read that kept me in tears for most of its journey. My heart broke in two on several different occasions. It was so hard to read and picture, but very easy as well, the crime scene of the little boy. My heart broke for those officers and for Lexi and Xavier as well. Oh, and not to mention the mother and brother.

I enjoyed reading Fall to Pieces way more than I thought I would when I read the summary. The characters were awesome and wonderful people who all seemed so real. You know like someone you would meet in your everyday life. Well, not all the characters were great. No, some, or maybe just one was a very bad, evil person.

While I do think that Fall to Pieces was a hard story to read I do highly recommend it to anyone who can read books of this nature. I do think that that little boy’s story needs to be told so to speak.

First off this story is a wild ride full of emotional and physical suspense. The cat and mouse analogy seems to tame to even describe what the author has pulled off with her writing. Our main character Lexi is deemed a loose cannon at work, someone the bosses are trying to force out before she damages the reputation of the force or costs them a lot of money. Meanwhile Lexi is just dealing with past traumas that she can’t seem to outrun from the loss of a kid to her husband who committed suicide in the home they shared. Enter Xavier Knight who is brought in to test Lexi’s demeanor and see whether she is truly fit for duty or the loose cannon that everyone thinks she is.

Xavier is assigned as Lexi’s new partner in his undercover work with internal affairs as he evaluates Lexi. However, their first case throws them and their relationship into a tailspin when it is the body of a young boy. Once again Lexi has to confront the same man that her husband lost his battle to Book. Tempers flare while the investigation is happening and to avoid further lawsuit after a confrontation at the station with Book, Lexi and Xavier are pulled from the investigation. Xavier finally starts to realize that the department is forcefully trying to remove Lexi even though she is a good detective. He also finds that she may be right about Book’s involvement in the boys murder and agrees to investigate him with Lexi in secret. Both Lexi and Xavier are trying to hold their secrets close to their vests but what happens when they come to light? Will the ticking time bomb they are tiptoeing around implode taking them down with it? Or can the bring a murderer who has bested them to justice? This is one of the best books I have read this year and will look for other titles this author has written. Her characters are dynamic, the storylines explosive and the twists and turns keep you coming back for me trying to put all the pieces together before the characters themselves do.

Alexandra Danvers is a Homicide Detective in Philadelphia where she has a close circle of friends and a job she lives for, but that is all she has, her job, past events have shattered her and she is just about holding herself together, the problem is that others have seen it too and that is where Detective Xavier Knight comes into things, he is someone who investigates officers fitness for duty, but because of the need to move around a lot, he has no friends, family, or ties in any place and now his next assignment is Detective Danvers.

As Xavier heads into work for the start of his latest investigation, he is thinking that the man sat in front of him has no idea what he is doing as an officer, that he is more adept at being a politician, however, today, he is going to introduce Xavier to his new partner, Alexandra Danvers, but it is the attitude of his superior which irks him. The way that Danvers is described is as a sub standard cop with a chip on her shoulder, but her record says otherwise and when they are introduced and immediately sent out on a case, he can see why. It is the murder of a child and Xavier sees a whole new side to Danvers as she deals with the scene and the aftermath, however as the two investigate the crime, Alexandra is convinced that it is someone called Arthur Book, but nobody else believes her, apart from Xavier.

When things don’t go quite to plan, the two partners agree to start their own investigation on the side, they both know the who, but now they just need to figure out how to prove it before things turn deadly, or a known killer walks free. This is a thrillingly fast paced story with more questions than answers and mysteries that run deep into the lives of those surrounding the tragedy, while trust is gained, lives are lost and games are played throughout in this race against time.

Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade

Could not put this book down once I began reading!

What I liked:
* Alexandra “Lexi” Danvers: homicide detective, widow, resilient, focused, internalizes feelings, protective of friends, hurting from losses, self-contained, competent, capable, professional, abrasive, good with people – when she wants to be, empathetic, attracted to Xavier
* Xavier Knight: detective, trouble shooter, undercover operative, travels, loner, reserved, professional, protective, professional, ethical – knows right from wrong, attracted to Lexi, may find something worth settling down for in Philadelphia
* The respect that Xavier showed Lexie and the pace he set with her as their relationship developed
* Being able to understand Lexi’s state of mind and empathize with her
* Feeling for the victims of the serial killer
* Being able too thoroughly dislike the serial killer – really wanted him to suffer…
* The way the story came together…great plotting
* The twists and turns that occurred even though I knew who the killer was
* Seeing Kyle and Jayson from their book (A Love Restored) read in 2017
* Wondering if Alonzo and Trudy will get together
* Seeing the impact working in homicide has on people
* That the book made me care, feel, and want justice
* That the story felt real and believable
* That there was a resolution to the case
* That there was a HFN with potential for a HEA for Lexi & Xavier

What I didn’t like:
* The killer
* The corrupt cop(s)
* Knowing that too many go missing and are never found – justice is not granted to them or their families

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to the Author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I loved this book, the story was compelling and kept you interested in more than one way! I was very curious to what would happen next, as well as how things unfolded, how things would lead to the next event in the plot. The author did an amazing job with these characters and the story line! Loved it!

For me my biggest thing I really loved how it came together was the growth of the characters. Not just as an individual, but as a group as well. To back that thought up, watching Lexi and Xavier grow as characters was amazing. Lexi I personally did not think too highly of her from my first impression, I will admit though that changed as I read through. Xavier I did instantly feel drawn to at the first glance. When these two were together working together, despite their differences, they grew as people within in each other as well! The author for sure had a strong ability to do that, it was very well done and realistic!

The story itself kept me very much interested. The dup was a nice addition to the plot as well. There was a lot of suspense for me regarding this book, which I loved! I found this book not all that predictable, even at moments where I thought I could guess the next event, I was mainly wrong haha. I loved how the author has written a smooth read which was defiantly a triumph of a story! Amazing read!

Wonderful read and very much well done writing. The author did a great job on this wonderful story and book they have created. I enjoyed the read as well as the adventure I got to partake on. I wish there was a continuation to this novel, as I did not want it to end. Highly recommend this enjoyable read!

Definitely different, but I loved the different! Fall to Pieces is an investigation within an investigation. A murder mystery with Internal Affair’s right in the middle.
Lexi, a North East Philly detective, has been assigned a new partner. Xavier has been assigned to Lexi’s precinct to investigate Lexi, what better way to do that then as her partner. First case as partners, a homicide of a child. A case that could make or break her career Lexi is determined to get justice for the family.
Xavier is torn in his quest to prove that Lexi is unfit. Lexi exudes a lot of confidence and qualities he admires, but feels she can be careless. Oh and he’s also attracted to her, that never makes things easy.
I loved the character development of Lexi and Xavier as individuals and working together, but the book has me posing a few questions for you.
Will Lexi find out Xavier has been brought in to essentially “take her badge”?
Will Lexi and Xavier act on their mutual attraction?
Will justice be delivered for Tommy Welsh?
Three intriguing questions that have answers just as intriguing of answers, but if I answered them for you what good is that. READ FIND OUT THOSE 3 ANSWERS AND MORE! This is my second time reading this book. The first time was as a stand-alone, this time I read it in succession with book 1. Made me enjoy it so much more. I love when an author creates characters and focuses on specific ones with each book release.
It's a whirlwind of a book that will DEFINITELY NOT DISAPPOINT! You are going to want more when it’s over!

A woman so lost in pain and grief that others doubt she was doing her job. A man placed with her to prove that she was unfit. Lexi had her grief that she was wallowing in, but she was a good detective faced with a terrible crime with her new partner, Xavier. I felt that Lexi was a very capable woman and Xavier was silent and observant, yet straightforward and clear in his dealings with Lexi. As they dove into the case, and danger found them, the spark flared up giving them both reasons for a change for the better. I enjoyed this story and recommend it.

I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

I've got to say, from the first few pages of this book I did not think that I was going to like Lexi, I found her character too harsh and brash and a little bit off-putting, she jumped off the page a bit like a punch to the face. But as the story went on I guess I softened towards her, and as I learnt all the things she had been through, her feisty and blunt behaviour made sense.
I say all this because, honestly, good or bad reaction to a character, if a writer can really make me feel like they are real, then hats off to them and Flade's characters felt real. Flawed and frustrating, annoying and harsh to each other but also resilient in the face of all the crap that gets thrown at them.

Lexi and Xavier (Did make with think of Professor X hehe) must work together to solve the murder of a boy but both of them are playing secret cards pretty close to their chests, especially Xavier whose real purpose for sticking so close to Lexi is making sure that she is doing her job properly. In spite of all the secrets and suspicions the pair find themselves developing feelings for each other, which means that things get pretty tangled and messy quickly.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read. Flade is pretty darn awesome at this whole penmanship malarky. Right from the first sentence, I was gripped by her characters and by the world she has created. A fabulous mystery and romance for you to sink your teeth into.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I liked this book, I liked it a lot!

Xavier is sent to assess Alexandra's mental capacity to do her job, following the suicide of her detective husband. But things are not as they seem and Xavier and Alex are soon fighting her department as well as a child killer hellbent on driving Alex mad.

This is a dark book. Suicide, child murder and abuse. How cops deal with stress. And I liked that. I liked that it made me think about those things. I have no triggers though, and some readers might not like it.

Both Alex and Xavier have a say, and they have a lot to say about a lot of things! Both of them are suffering from things that happened but while Alex' is (mostly) clear from the start, it takes time to get the whole picture. Xavier's pain is far deeper and we don't get the whole picture there til much later. I like being made to wait.

The romance between Alex and Xavier takes a back seat to the crime aspect of the book and I loved the twist that took. I did think Alex would push Xavier away more than once and, Lord she tries! But Xavier is strong and even though the reasons he comes into Alex' life are beyond his control, keeping her safe is within his control and he will do that.

I liked this, a lot. It's the first I've read of this author, I would like to read more.

Fall to Pieces is a tense romantic suspense that’s impossible to put down! Lexi’s career and mental health are threatened by the loss of her husband and the surrounding circumstances. When a new case turns up that reopens old wounds, just when she is being investigated by Internal Affairs, Lexi has to fight to cling on to her job and sanity. And, of course, solve the case.
Arthur Book is a chillingly scary villain. He’s an expert in manipulation and seems able to, literally, get away with murder. I found myself anxiously turning the page, worried about when he would next show up. And there are some twists and turns as Lexi tries to learn more about him to find a vulnerability she can exploit.
Lexi has a great support network, and I love this cast of characters. Trudy and Buzz were my particular favourites! They’re interesting characters in their own right and there to support Lexi or help further the plot where needed.
Xavier is an interesting character, and I like that he has complex motivations and a backstory. He makes a good foil to Lexi – grounded and reaching out to others while she tries to isolate herself.
This book gets five stars from me. I couldn’t put it down! I really hope we get more stories with these characters. I’d recommend it to fans of police dramas and mysteries.

This book is a great romantic suspense, detective novel. I do love a good romantic suspense story and I really enjoyed this one. I had never previously read any of this author’s work but I was intrigued by the blurb and decided to give it a go.
There is a book that comes before this in the series but they can be read as a stand-alone. When I read this book I wasn’t aware that there had been a previous book but as this is a whole new story there is no issue with not having read the previous book. The main characters from the previous book, Jayson Donovan and Kylee do make an appearance in this book. I do wonder about the names of these characters – is the author a Neighbours fan? Lol
This is the story of Detectives Alexandra (Lexi) Danvers and Xavier Knight and their pursuit of catching their main suspect in a child murder case.
I loved both of these characters. They are totally opposite in personality but work so well as a team. I really enjoyed reading their story. The author had me gripped from the very beginning of the story and does an amazing job of keeping you totally enthralled and not wanting to put the book down.
The book is filled with a great deal of drama, danger and intrigue and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I will definitely read more of this author’s work in the future as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Fall to Pieces is a story rooted in tragedy. This story takes you into the world of homicide detective Lexi Danvers, who's focus lies on suspected child killer Authur Book. She is placed with a new partner Xavier Knight, who is secretly sent in from Internal Affairs, to determine is Lexi is fit for work or if her self destructive behavior after the loss of her husband is conflicting her ability to perform her duties as detective.
This story is tragic, sad, and cruel, but in a wonderful way. The reader is thrust into a scene of a murdered 8 year old boy. As I read this scene, my own 8 year old son was sitting beside me and I felt the emotions so vividly. The author does a fabulous job of relaying such devastation in a manner where you do want to continue into this journey and discover who can be so cruel to harm such an innocent victim. The character of Authur Book was just manipulative, evil and vile as the author displayed this throughout the story with Lexi and Xavier's mission to catch him and stop his menace on young victims.
I definitely would recommend this book if you are willing to put your emotions on display and allow yourself to be thrust into such horrible, unimaginable situations that this book details. The author did a fabulous job of taking us on a journey that I hope and pray never to face in the real world.

I was gripped from start to finish by this exciting and engaging romantic suspense novel. The main characters were well developed and realistic and the chemistry between the two of them came across in the writing. Homicide Detective Alexandra Danvers and her partner Detective Xavier Knight are determined to bring Arthur Book, a known child murderer to justice. However, Xavier is actually a police corruption specialist who is undercover as Lexi’s partner, but is really evaluating her fitness for duty. As the investigation into the child killer continues Xavier is worried that if he concentrates on his actual mission, then it could have serious consequences for the murder case, allowing Book to walk free. Things become more complicated for the pair as the more time they spend together on their covert investigation into Book’s, they can no longer ignore their growing feelings for one another. The pair become in danger of not only loosing their careers but also their lives as the case continues. The storyline flows well and I felt immersed in the investigation due to the descriptive narrative. I was kept hooked by the plot twists and stayed up late to finish the book as it was hard to put down. This was an enjoyable read which I would recommend.

Well written and suspenseful, this novel kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Lexi is a disaster waiting to happen as she plows her way through the shreds of her life. Under investigation, the men who should have her back are instead looking for ways in which to get rid of her, and Detective Xavier Knight is just the man for the job. They had barely started to work together when they are called out on a case that mirrors the one that caused the ultimate death of Lexi's husband. Xavier begins to get an inkling of the pressure that Lexi is under, but rather than giving him cause to condemn her, she earns his respect. With horrendous crimes being committed, Lexi being stalked, and corrupt police officers, Xavier has a hard time keeping Lexi safe. However, he trusts her instincts and when the puzzle starts to come together they find that the truth is even more difficult to comprehend than they could have suspected. My heart cried for Lexi and the victims she had to investigate, making me grateful to those men and women who have to wade through the cesspool of life to investigate the crimes of perverted, twisted minds. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

Lexi Danvers has been having a rough go of things since she lost her husband. Her superiors and fellow detectives feel she is a loose cannon due to her extracurricular activities outside of work. They are trying to find any reason they can to push her out and hired Xavier Knight, a specialist of sorts from Internal Affairs to investigate her. The last thing Xavier expected was to be attracted to his subject and start entertaining the idea of putting down roots of any kind. Lexi didn't expect to have the walls she worked so hard to build be torn down so easily. While trying to figure the ins and outs of a potential relationship they are on the hunt for a murderer who hunts the innocent. Will they be able to do their respective jobs without jeopardizing not only their careers, but an entire investigation?

There are a few heavy subjects talked about in this book that are trigger warnings. Admittedly I had a bit of trouble getting past the first few pages due to what was happening, but I knew it was coming from the synopsis. Overall though I enjoyed the book from start to finish and would definitely read more books by this author.

Great book! As this story unfolds it was hard for me to put down. Lexi is a detective who is haunted by her past about her late husband while being a strong detective with an attitude. Xavier is sent in to "investigate" more about Lexi and if she is truly fit to be a detective. When Lexi and Xavier are partnered together, their first case is a child homicide. This already started my heart racing. Something about the homicide is clean and precise and Lexi's #1 suspect is Author Book. She truly believes he was involved with a previous case and now he just torments her like he did with her late husband. Xavier, is not attached to anyone, no friends, no family. Xavier is to investigate Lexi, but also ends up investigating Author Book as well. Both characters really pull at my heart. Lexi is strong willed and full of attitude, but really haunted by her demons. Xavier hold secrets of his own. Will Xavier and Lexi learn to work together and solve the homicide of a child?

This story really pulls you in from beginning to end. If you love murder mystery, crime, suspense and some romance..this book is a great read! Highly recommended!

Alexandra “Lexi” Danvers is a no nonsense detective. She may struggle a little with authority, but the most important thing she can do is keep crime off the streets. So why is her department working so hard to get rid of her?

Xavier Knight is brought in to be her new partner check Detective Danvers fitness for duty after the tragedy she’s endured. But on day one, they’ve hit a big case and he’s determined to see it through.

Keeping quiet about their motives may get difficult when they start their own investigation into a potential child murder. An investigation that may cost them their jobs, but it could also cost them their lives.

Fall to Pieces was an exhilarating read and kept me wondering what might be next. This book touches on hard topics that may be hard for some readers so read with caution. These topics were very gently and kindly done to show that these situations happen, even if it’s hard to talk about. It paints a picture of grief, anger, and hope for change while being just suspenseful enough to not be thrown across the room.

I hope to see more about Lexi and Xavier and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade

Fall to Pieces is a intense Mystery Suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going to happen next. Once I started there was no putting it down. I pretty much tuned everything around me out and focused on this story. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to reading her other books. Detective Lexi works for a department that is working against her but that’s not stopping her from trying to bring a child killer to justice. She’s partnered with Detective Xavier who is there to determine if she’s truly capable of doing her job but things turn a bit intense. These two team up to solve the case while putting their lives in extreme jeopardy. As they go along they realize there’s more to the relationship . This story is packed with action mystery, secrets and much more. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can tell you, you won’t be disappointed I sure wasn’t.

This had the perfect balance of danger, mystery as well as attraction and not knowing where the investigation would go or who to trust. Lexi is considered a loose cannon and Xavier unbeknownst to her is bought in to basically being her down but after their first case together he starts to learn more about what makes her tick as well as the real her underneath all the amour she has put on place after her husband who was also on the force killed himself. Lexi is determined to finally find the evidence to get Book who we slowly learn more about and find out just what true evil is and along the way she starts to open her heart back up not just to Xavier who also didn't expect to feel the attraction between them, but also to her friends again who have supported her on the sidelines waiting for her to be ready. You definitely won't be putting this book down until the end and be ready for a twist towards the end that shocks you!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book was a suspenseful 4 star read. This was my first read from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Her writing pulls you right into Xavier and Lexi's story.

Lexi is on a mission to capture a child killer. Xavier joins Lexi as her partner in the investigation.
When these two meet there is an instant attraction, can Xavier keep things professional? How would Lexi feel if she really knew who he was and the real reason he has been assigned to work with her. What will happen when she finds out his secret?

Will they be able to find the killer before it's too late?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. We get suspense, emotion, drama and so much more. My emotions were all over the place. I really liked both of these characters. I can't imagine being a detective and having to deal with the things that these two did. They had a great connection as well. If you're looking for a great thrilling read, 1-click and get started today. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Fall to Pieces ended up being much better than I expected. The description had me interested, as I enjoy crime thrillers- law and order type, if you will. The cover art had me expecting more of a romance novel. While it did have that, it wasn't the focus of the story. We instead focus on detective Alexandra Danvers, and her internal struggle to bring a suspected child killer to justice. I really enjoyed the link this case had to her husband, as well as how Detective Xavier Knight fit in. All the characters seemed to have little connections, which made it all work. The characters are introduced slowly, so it wasn't overwhelming to me. I was happy that Alex handled the truth rationally, and didn't fly off the deep end, like we see many female leads do. I don't want to reveal too much and ruin the story, so I'll leave it at that. She is a very strong character and I hope to read more about her, whether prequel or future developments.

This is a suspenseful mystery that I enjoyed. It is a fast paced story that is full of action. A story where Detective Lexi works in a department that is totally working against her. But she is determined to bring a child killer to justice. This is a story full of secrets not only for the killer but also for Lexi and Xavier who could lose their jobs or even their life for this case. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters who are relatable. I enjoyed Lexi’s character the most as she is a determined female who goes after what she wants. She made the story fun and entertaining for me. This is an engaging story that was hard to put down. The twists and turns had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it.

Detective Alexandra Danvers is on a mission to find a child killer. Dealing with her husbands death, hostility to others, depression, and being ostracized by her department she has the odds against her. When she is newly partnered with Detective Xavier Knight things turn a bit romantic but are also fueled with suspense. Xavier is there to determined Lexi's ability to effectively do her job, but he also ends up helping her with this case. As these 2 team up together they are risking life and limb to solve this case, but also finding that there is more to their relationship along the way.

This book was a great thriller. There were many twists and turns that you could not, and did not see coming in this story. There were also a lot of emotions attached to this book. Both main characters had a lot to overcome and you could feel a lot of the sadness from both ends.

Alexandra Danvers and Xavier Knight are on a hunt to find Arthur Book. They must stop him before he kills again. All the while Xavier is investigating Lexi, his job is to see if she can do her job as a detective. While Lexi is on the job to stop this horrible killer. She is also fighting an inner battle. The loss of her husband is only the beginning for Lexi. This author has a way of getting you caught up in her story. The story is non-stop action, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The characters are the true story makers, people I would have loved to have known. Let's not forget the attraction between Lexi and Xavier. Can these two people do their jobs, all the while trying to keep each other and their families safe? You really do need to read this story, and take a chance with this author. She is a new to me author who has got my vote. I look forward to reading more from her.
