A short, practical guide on how those who learned ‘to be a man’ can embrace feminism not just theoretically, but as a practice in everyday life. With a pragmatic and compassionate approach to masculinity, it offers eleven tools to grow beyond the destructive limits patriarchal norms try to impose on who we are and how we relate to each other.
YESSSS!!! Every man should read this!!! this is exactly the sentiment I've been looking for in a male written book on self development! The tiniest book containing the essence of patriarchal masculinity and how to break free of it, not focussing on judging, just stating, giving examples, and giving tools. Not only useful for men, but also women growing up in these social constructs and embodying certain traits themselves like me.
It takes an hour, maybe 2, to read, just do it! I would love to see this text translated in Dutch. I feel it could do some real good in aiding (emotionally struggling) young men.
an essential text for every cis man to read! even as a woman i’ve learned new concepts, and the comprehensive bibliography at the end is a great source for further reading. Will be buying this for all male figures in my life
I started reading this book not expecting to relate to it as much as I did. Idk why the title is what it is bc I think the information is useful to everyone.
a very hands-on short and analytical dissection of fundamental concepts from feministic (and queer) theory and their everyday practical application. very good for neurospicy brains and in general for people, like me, who are primarily cerebral and have to navigate the interpersonal dynamics relying on logic and analysis, rather than on intuition and feeling (which is probably the case for most men, hense the need for this book). must-read for any modern cis (especially straight) man. has to be reread regularly, i guess.
Such a simple and concise book, yet it made me emotional during the read. I highly recommend it to any male who expresses even the slightest curiosity.
