Sports Day!

Has ended. With our leads no longer in training, it just might be time for a little trip to the theme park. Izumi’s luck strikes again, but just how bad could it be? Then it’s a question of who has the biggest stones and Shikimori might have forgotten something important…

Aww, they pretty much come right out and admit that the whole basis of this series is about Shikimori being in the more masculine role while Izumi is in the more traditional feminine one and it’s dang cute.

First though, we have to wrap up the sporty stuff and rest assured that this volume gets four stars immediately because of the change in Hachimitsu’s expression, which is not that far removed from her usual. And yet, the shift is so quietly well done that it shows how good the art in this story can get with its subtlety.

It’s very rare that a sports festival can offer much of anything new, but this one knocked it out of the park with its focus on strategy and teamwork and the nature of the cast and it gives everybody a moment to shine.

But who cares? Theme park date! I’m no fashion maven, but good lord is Shikimori ever dressed to kill in this segment. She’s lucky Izumi didn’t die on the spot as she is decked out like nobody’s business (and so very practical).

This is just before she goes full goth and puts on an adorable cape, mind you, but still. Izumi’s bad luck runs rampant this entire time, but there’s certainly an undercurrent to this story of how luck is what you make of it, since he comes out ahead inadvertently a couple times over.

The other nice part of said date is that rather than firmly putting the story’s foot down on ‘Shikimori = man stereotype’ and ‘Izumi = woman stereotype’, it instead illustrates how they both have their moments. Shikimori is the prince, yes, but a princess can steal a heart or two if he’s motivated (Shikimori imploding is a common theme here). That gondola scene? Oh you crazy kids.

Those are the best parts of this volume. The spa segment is pretty amusing, although it’s a bit of a retread of Shikimori and Izumi’s mom’s earlier conversation, just with Izumi’s dad this time. Seeing them bonding was fun though.

The whole studying segment that closes the book goes from bad to worse for our heroine, as Shikimori is trying to be more open-hearted like Izumi and it strains against her nature. Then there’s a fight as, well, it turns out that not everybody knows that Shikimori is seeing Izumi.

There’s an innocence and ‘love will see us through’ to this story that would melt your teeth at a distance if it didn’t have these little bumps, so I do appreciate the mangaka adding some friction. Izumi and Shikimori are basically inseparable and while that is rarely the case for first loves, it’s never a bad thing to hope one works out now and then.

The bonus story for this volume is a really cute little shopping trip for Shikimori and her brother that is fun and uplifting and, happily, nowhere near as weird as many other manga would get. They like one another and can be difficult at showing it. The end.

4 stars - not a perfect series, but the ratio of excellent and good to okay has stayed very high and hopefully will for some time. Great volume.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Vol. 6 (My Kindle Review)

We get to get the second part of the relay race and then Izumi takes Shikimori out on a romantic date on the town with some bad luck interfering in it but in a pretty helpful way. Later as things between her and Izumi become more serious, she invites him and their friends to study at her house while she also plans to tell her family about her romance. A (100%/Outstanding)

While this volume was sweet and cute and had great moments, I didn't squee nearly as much as I have in previous installments. Not sure why, maybe I just wasn't feeling it at the time, but a lot of the emotional/impactful moments didn't hit me in the feels as hard as they could have. Also, this is kind of weird thing to get hung up on, but Shikimori and Izumi have been dating for a year (I think) at this point, yet Shikimori has not managed to tell her family she's dating. First off, how do you manage to hide a relationship for an entire year? Has no one in her family questioned why she's going out so much and who she's hanging out with? Second, she said she, "couldn't find the right time to tell them," but again no one in her family asked any questions? And she seriously couldn't find any time over the course of a year to tell them? I dunno, it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I still love her relationship with Izumi, they are still top tier #relationshipgoals.

So yeah, not as amazing or gaggingly sweet as previous volumes, but I still really enjoyed it. Curious to see how Shikimori's family reacts to meeting Izumi!

Hello everyone, readers🌸

Today I bring you the review of the sixth volume of "Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie." That said, let's get started:

💕The delivery begins with Shikimori, who, with the baton of the relay race in hand, manages to recover two positions with fervor. However, Shu is the one who takes the victory, carrying the team’s effort to achieve the comeback. After the team’s good performance, the action comes to a halt when Izumi catches a cold, and Shikimori, along with Kamiya, provides moments of tenderness and comedy while taking care of him.

The climax is reached when Izumi proposes to take her to an amusement park, opening a range of narrative possibilities.

💕In this transitional chapter, a fun romantic situation is presented, where a change of seats causes Shikimori to awaken her partner's nerves by drawing on his back, just before the much-anticipated date at the amusement park.

Interestingly, bad luck does not show up during this visit; instead, the humor comes from the couple's personal tastes and an unexpected adjustment at the restaurant. Thus, the romantic shines in attractions like Sleeping Beauty and a boat ride that ends in darkness, culminating in her revealing declaration about being in a dream.

The hug and kiss on the cheek that Izumi gives his partner mark a turning point in their personal development.

💕In recent chapters, the plot offers two crucial moments for the couple. In the first, Shikimori strengthens her bond with his parents during a sauna; in the second, she reveals her insecurity about introducing them to her family, motivated by her desire to express her love publicly, like holding hands.

🌸Conclusion: This sixth installment wraps up the sports festival and paves the way for events that mature the relationship, including the parents in the dynamic.

Rating: 5🌸

Thank you for your time 🌸

This volume opens with the last part of the relay and some suuuuper adorable friendship After the exhilaration of the school sports day (and winning!! woo!!), we finally get another date day that has Shikimori and Izumi going to a theme park. The gondola scene was (´꒳`)♡ - not only do they share more adorable, quiet moments together, but Izumi steps up and gives her the sweetest declaration of love + a kiss on the cheek. Too wholesome!!! This is followed by a spa day with Izumi's parents and a Shikimori/Izumi's Dad bonding scene that's got hilarious macho guy energy. Up next: going to Shikimori's house and introducing Izumi to her family for the first time.

The bonus chapter here is the best one yet - we get to meet Shikimori's brother, who is SUCH A SWEETHEART!! I love their relationship and hope we get to see a lot more of it in future volumes.

Oooooo the amusement park date was so cute! It was super nice to see their relationship progress finally, still it is quite crazy that they have been going out for more than a year and they still haven't had their first kiss lol.
Also what a way to end the volume, I'm so excited to see Shikimori's family and how she introduces them to Izumi. I just love seeing how the relationship advances and develops, it's the great thing about the story being about them dating instead of how they got together, you get all these super cute moments that you usually don't get from other romances, plus I just really like how this manga throws gender roles in the trash.
I have been liking it a lot this far and I'm intrigued to see how their love will continue to grow so I will definitely keep on reading!

When do I get a perfect theme park date? When?

A satisfying conclusion to last volume’s cliffhanger and a series of cute stories with our main couple make this volume the perfect balance between larger cast stories and our main romance. It’s cute and genuine and it makes me happy in such an uncomplicated way. The series does not disappoint and, now six volumes in, I’m just eager for the next one.

Sports day is over and the team won! Shikimori and Inuzuka were able to shorten the distance with the other teams and win the race. I enjoy their friendship so so much! They were so happy to win! I loved the amusement park chapters, Shikimori and Izumi are so cute, Izumi kissed Shikimori on the cheek and Shikimori was really happy about it!
We get to see Izumi mad at Shikimori because she hasn’t told her family about their relationship, let’s see how things go!

Shikimori IS a cutie! Totally!

She is such an adorable girlfriend. She's cool, all the others at school like and admire her, and she's good both with school work and athletics. This little group have grown quite close. They won the co-ed relay, and Shikimori went on a date with Mr lucky and even managed to get a kiss and was able to cuddle him in a gondola overlooking the city.

The first chapter is just so wholesome and full of adorable friendship moments as they run the coed relay race! Following that story arc, there is a cute disneyland-esque date and the end reveals a secret about Shikimori!
