This graded reader is so good! I think it has just the right amount of repetition to help readers learn new words without becoming too repetitive. And the story itself is really entertaining! It starts off a little slow as it introduces characters and the world they live in, but it soon picks up when the woman from the painting becomes real and uses her magic against an evil king. The woman from the painting is powerful and smart, and her husband is doting and sweet. If you're a fan of that kind of dynamic or just like seeing people taking down bad kings, I totally recommend trying this as your next Chinese graded reader

I've read other easy to read versions of this story but this was by far the best. It had a lot more detail, about how the hero helped someone to get given the painting. How afterwards they had to deal with a tyrannical King. Definitely a fuller story. The book was easy to read but not too repetitive or dry. Definitely recommended.
