Corinne Renaud left home eight years ago to become a healer, one of the medical professionals in charge of administering the cure for mental illness. But after a tragedy in the family, Corinne is forced to return home to pick up the pieces. Suddenly burdened with the responsibility of filling in someone's else shoes, Corinne begins to lose her grasp on her own identity as she discovers that her sister's life was not what she thought it was.
"The cure for mental illness has existed for a long time, but it was never enforced. Until now. I left my family and my hometown eight years ago, to pursue a career as a healer. I honestly thought I was going to help cure the world. Four years of medical school, that’s what they promised. That we were going to help make the world a better place. But you can’t be a healer if you’re not cured yourself. It wasn’t what I expected. The cure. It felt like the life had been sucked out of me. I could still remember what I felt like before, but that version of myself was suddenly gone. Like going from fully alive to only half alive. After that, I thought they’d taken everything there was to take from me. I was wrong."
Great sequel to Citizen. Quickly paced and like the first book, interesting! I flew through it. I am looking forward to the third book! If you are looking for a fast read, an escape with a dystopian theme, this series is it!
While this book is just as fast paced as the first, I enjoyed season 1 a little bit more. Some elements of this story felt a little lacking, but overall it is a great binge read.
This series is progressing with a different main character each "season". Book one following Rory and book two following her sister Corrine.
Corrine who works as a healer in a world with a cure for mental illness that becomes mandatory. I hope the author continues and finishes this series because it's really interesting following a story from one main perspective to another.
These books are definitely great for anyone who either needs broken out of reading slump or need a quick pallette cleansing book between longer series.
Corinne's story is different from Sabine's - but their connection leads Corinne to get exactly where she needs to be (even if she doesn't want to be there).
As a Healer who is uncured, she has the potential to help people in a big way. But will fear hold her back?
