Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is part of a series. Please read in order.

Trigger Warnings: abduction, murder, betrayal, violence, assault.

This was a short, steamy, and manipulatively violent novella. Yes, as in 90 pages novella.

I mean I enjoyed being in the characters' separate worlds and their amigos, but because this was a novella, I could not really immerse myself in it, despite my countless tries.

The romance and steam were heartwarming and fiery, hence the extra star to my two.

Otherwise, a longer novel would have done more justice to this couldve-been-more intriguing novella.

Until the next read,

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Eve of Destruction, book one in The League: Eve of Destruction series, gave me my first taste of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s work. A short read, which also introduced me to her prolific League series.   The first book in a new series of novella set in the League world. Also, the events of this installment took place prior to the first book in the League series.

Now, despite my lack of familiarity with the world I had no issues following the story. The only drawback is that it whetted my appetite for more of this world. The story was exciting, and it hooked from the beginning. Now, at ninety plus pages, the romance between the protagonists Jinx and Eve developed quickly. Despite the pace at which the romance developed, their connection felt genuine. What made their romance special is that Jinx a League assassin, was trained to be devoid of feelings.

However, the moment he laid eyes on Eve, he was drawn to her. He knew he should stay away because of the danger involved, but he couldn’t.

Kenyon weaved an engaging tale filled with intrigue, humour and romance. I had a good time with this installment and look forward to more from the series.

nice little short story about to unlike people finding each other against all odds.

it all moves very quickly -has to with just 90 pages to do the entire story in- so it’s very insta-lovey but it’s still well done.

the story itself is good, a nice mix of romance and fantasy sci-fi adventure.
but it’s very much romance centered. so if you’re reading this for assassins adventures? not the book for you.

Read my review at Fresh Fiction

A new League story? Somebody pinch me! I was super excited to get this book in my hands because I’ve missed Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing for a while now. I was looking for something to quell my thirst for Paranormal Romance and this one hit the spot!

The couple of this story is Eve and Jinx and they were absolutely amazing together! I loved their sexy banter and their combustible chemistry. It’s been a while since I’ve been so smitten over a hero, but Jinx totally blew me away with his alpha attitude. Despite all that though, there was an endearing quality to him that made him feel less stoic or ruthless as the other heroes of this series have been.

As always, Kenyon adds a dash of torment to all her books, so expect a bit of angst and a lot of action. Unfortunately, this story was only a novella, so I was disappointed when it was over so quickly. I would have loved to read more about them and this world. Ninety pages just doesn’t feel like enough when you’re addicted and wish to read more. This is especially true when I feel like it’s been a long time since Kenyon has released a new story in this series.

That being said, if you’re looking for a great Paranormal Romance series to binge, I would highly recommend The League series. There’s a lot of great worldbuilding and many hot heroes to swoon over! If you’re like me, you’ll be falling in love with these complex and captivating stories. You definitely don’t want to miss out on EVE OF DESTRUCTION!

I'm going to take an extreme measure for me and mark the whole review as a spoiler. Because I want to talk the major moment for me. Which may be a spoiler for Born of Blood
She was exquisite violence. There was no other way to describe her. Normally, Jinx Shadborne wouldn't have given her more than a casing glance.
But she was possible to ignore.
She wore competence and war like an accessory. Her posture bled experience, especially since she was in this dive hole, alone.
With no visible weaponry.
— Jinx Shadowborne (also the opening lines)

When I see Sherri is releasing I new story I'm happy. 😊When I see that it's for The League series I'm ecstatic.🤩 And man oh man, Eve of Destruction did not disappoint. 😍😮 It is definitely one for the fans. It slaps you in the face with history and lore and some of it is seriously... wait what? How has it taken that long to come out? The biggest wtf for me is that in some way shape or form Jayne is related to Fain's son, Talyn. It's not much but it's there. If you have read Born of Defiance and remember Talyn's uniqueness you will know why I say this. Like Talyn, she's a Winged Batur, through her Grandmother.

We meet Jinx Showbourne and Eve Erixour in a dive bar, he's looking for a source, she's looking for a drink. Jinx protects her something he does frequently. Eve's current project is saving her younger sister Jayne from a League prison, a feat considered impossible. Jinx is a rebellious little huge assassin working against The League from within. Jinx and Eve aren't necessarily sweet together but they are explosive and all chemistry. Willing to break the rules and risk death for each other. Both of them are protective older siblings though for slightly different reasons. There is a line I really like "You do realise, Evelita Ixtara Erixour, that with the number of kills on your balance sheet that you'd only be one rank below me if you were a League assassin, right?" Jinx is a Second Rank Assassin, one kill of First Rank. That says so much about her, about not just her deadliness but what she does when painted into a corner. Given Hyshian culture their dynamic could be kinda interesting, it depends on how heavily ingrained her culture is in her. How much she can give up and the difference between their cultures.

• The beautiful endearment for the story is zarana Euforian for Lady, also Mi amita for my dearest. Euforian appears to be based loosely on a Spanish dialect. I'm not even sure we've met Jinx's race before. So that's a thing. And Jinx is a Prince which I believe I knew from Born of Rage which ends with him going bloody.
• Guess who makes a guest appearance? One Nykyrian Quikiades and Syn but not in person. But I'm wondering if we just saw something that got him thinking about starting it. If we did I'm wondering what happens to the other players. Kyr is also still around and still being threatened on the regular, so you know, the more things change the more they stage the same.
• This is another novella playing with Andronian lore. We actually get decent passages of Andronian, more than we're seen in a while.
• As a side note Jinx and Eve both have rather amusing profiles on Sherri's website. As is the norm, it's in the details.
• As range as it might sound a bit odd I want Bête's story. She is deadly, terrifying and protective. That last feels a little unusual for an active League assassin. Ditto Savage.
• I say this is only for the fans but in all fairness, if you just wanted a taste of this universe to see if it's something you might try. It is standalone and doesn't make assumptions on your knowledge of the verse.

So where does this set in the wider scheme of things? This is before the Sentella is established, Jayne is only 17. I would suggest somewhat parallel to mid parts of Born of Blood, in a similar way to Cloak and Dagger and Born of Silence. But it is set quite some time before Born of Night. Apparently it fits in before Born of Rage. Meaning this is to date the League work set the furthest back in the Ichidian Universe. To my understanding at least I am happy to be corrected. This is a novella that sets up much of the background for Born of Blood the much-awaited story of Jayne and Hadrian, due for publication in 2024 (atm everything in Sherri's publication order is fluid).

I can't be objective about Sherri's writing anymore. If I ever could be. But this was a joy to read I adore this universe and I always like learning about new characters. New times in the world. Finding a whole other generation to explore, which I will call gen 0 or gen .5 for now, is beyond exciting. The story is well written and like Cloak and Dagger and Fire and Ice well suited to the shorter format.

Third has black skull-and-dagger stitching only. First would have red stitching like our friend, but with a crown over the sword hilt. — Eve Erixour (it's been quite a long time if ever since we saw this written)

Read for Dymocks 2022 Reading Challenge. Filling the prompt: "Otherworldly"
Is this kinda cheating? Eve of Destruction is a novella but it's Sherrilyn McQueen's first release in so long. As a loyal Paladin it is my duty to promote this any way I can. Using it to fill a prompt is one way, I may also use the upcoming Shadow Fallen (also McQueen) for this.

It was good to be back in Sherrilyn Kenyon's world. Eve of Destruction was short, but so good...

« Beware the sword of vengeance, for its blade is just as sharp on the back as it is the front. Lacking all sight, it doesn’t see what it hits, nor feel the pain that it causes. It tastes every bit of the blood it draws, and it cries more, more, more. For once started, its appetite becomes insatiable. So think you twice before you grasp that hilt, and find your hand locked to a fate that is as likely to strike the one who wields it as the one it’s meant to lay low.” »

I'm happy my library obtained a copy of this book. I really balked at the price of the book. There's 120 pages of LARGE print in the hardback ... for $21.99 @ Amazon just seems pretty steep to me. Take in to account though, I really don't purchase hardbacks (arthritis makes it really hard to hold them), but even at 5.99 for the Kindle version seems pretty pricey.

That said, I really enjoyed getting a little more back story on Eve & Jinx ... and Jayne. There was quite a bit we've already learned after reading Born of Rage, but this goes back to where Jinx encounters Eve, and how they ended up where they do in Born of Rage.

VERY brief mentions of Syn & Nykrian were interesting. REALLY looking forward to Jayne's book!!!

Eve and Jinx are two tough characters who dominate the pages in this book. While reading I noticed that the characters had some dry humor. That’s if you got their meaning. I also noticed that this story is sort of like a prequel to the next book. The writer did a good job with introducing the new characters and providing the background to each group of new characters. The story moved pretty fast. There are a few moments where the book has some exciting entertainment.

3 star listen i liked hear about the main characters from sherrilyns nemesis rising series in this one before they are 'something' evryone being a lot younger and finding enough is enough.
unfortunately i cant find the rest of the series on audio so i guess i wont be progressing through but this one was definitely worth the listen, short and full of action, good solid world setting.

This one is very short, but packed a lot into it. I liked the connection that Eve and Jinx had, liked that it meant more to each of them than they let on at first, but glad too that it didn't stay that way.

Eve of Destruction is a novella set in The League series. This is a short book/novella. This is an ideal book for new readers to The League. But it also gives good background info for fans of the series. I have been waiting a long time for a new book by this author and this book makes me happy. I just wish it was longer! Can't wait for additional books to be released with Eve and Jinx!

Anything to do with the league is a one-click/ preorder for me -
This being a novella I ordered paperback, not a hardbound (it's under 100 pages)
Now that you know my feelings might be slightly swayed let's move on

This was a bit like a mixed plate appetizer at your local haunt after it got a small makeover -
A teaser that gives a quick story as well as a taste of what's coming
An introduction to some new characters to get you salivating as well as some of your old favorites

This takes place before the other league books. Back when everyone was still conscripted, still fighting for their freedom.
Before they teamed up and started serving the league their gluteus Maximus' on silver platters
We get a glimpse a closeted (could not resist and you will see)of how things started -
A simple plan to ban together that would eventually change worlds

This highlights Jinx and Eve.
She's a booty kicking bounty hunter and he is a league assassin
Two more opposite yet completely similar creatures
There is a bit of action, some series plot introduction, fan fave cameos
This does have a quick turnaround for the relationship between Jinx and Eve.
Normally insta doesn't work for me.
I was even a bit unsure the first chapter or two but it worked

When you know each moment could be your last
and have nothing to lose
you grab for what you want
consequences be darned

I'm am excited to see how it all began - We got glimpses before but now we get to be a part of that journey

EVE OF DESTRUCTION is the first instalment in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s adult THE LEAGUE: EVE OF DESTRUCTION sci-fi, fantasy series-a prequel novella series to the author’s THE LEAGUE. This is mercenary for hire Eve Erixour, and League assassin Jinx Shadowbourne’s story line. Eve is Jayne Erixour’s (BORN OF BLOOD) sister.

Told from third person perspective EVE OF DESTRUCTION takes place before the events of BORN OF NIGHT, book one in Sherrilyn’s THE LEAGUE series. Eve Erixour is a mercenary for hire and League assassin Jinx Shadowborne saves our heroine from an unanticipated attack. Hours later, Eve will discover a badly injured Jinx, and with the help of her friend Jedi, brings Jinx to her apartment in an effort to save his life. One glorious night spent with an injured League assassin finds Eve pining for a man she knows could be her death but with her sister Jayne locked away in a League prison for the sins of her father, Eve struggles with what could have been.

Meanwhile Jinx, embittered about the past, and hating his life with The League, finds himself the target of a League assassination order, and does one final act to help the woman he loves.

EVE OF DESTRUCTION is a fast paced, short story of insta-love; a novella that reveals some of the background, familiar characters and history before the events of THE LEAGUE. The character driven premise is revealing and enjoyable; the characters are captivating; the $ex scenes are intimate and enthusiastic.

I can't believe I've waited so long to dip my toes into The League Universe! Bad Nikki!

Eve is one kickbutt heroine. She's n slouch with sword, blaster or fist. She may have been forced into this life but she is in no way cowed by it. She's seized it by the throat and wringing every advantage she can. She needs t get her sister out of the clink before something worse happens to her. But before she can devise a plan, she almost literally stumbles over the answer to her prayers.

Jinx may be an elite assassin but, like Eve, this was not his goal. he was sold into this life and he knows the only way out his death. So he'll make a bit of trouble for the PTB before they either catch him or someone else takes him out.

A fab wee nugget which just slotted into my lunch hour perfectly. An engaging fantasy world, much like a medieval time period on Earth with a few added elements. The characters were fun, fully-formed and brilliantly witty. One of my fave scenes was in the pub - it just had such Mos Eisley Cantina vibes, lol. Shorter than I'd like but definitely packs a punch.

So happy that I've started here so that the rest of the League books will hopefully make more sense to me.

Oh man I am such a huge fan of this author and when I got this book, I was like freaking out of my mind lol I loved this short novella and I am so stoked for the next one 😊

Jinx and Even’s relationship was so HOT and I was totally invested in these two from the get go. If you read the other books I the League series then you know what its about. Jinx is a League Assassin trained to kill. They are known for the their skill and that have no feelings attached to anything. He is also not happy with his life in the League but its all he has known. Until he meets Eve 😊

Eve is a mercenary who happens to run into Jinx who just so happens to save her life. So when she finds him injured she cant exactly walk away as he did save her life before. And she cant also deny the attraction she has for him… So how will this work out between the assassin and the mercenary…

Freaking awesome, Loved it from start to finish. A bit disappointed it was so short, but I am re-reading The League: Nemesis Rising. I just have to 😊 Short but definitely packs a punch... Like I said if you a fan of this author, this is just like a taste of what’s to come. And its going to be EPIC

Once again, Christine creates a world so magical with characters like Eve and Jinks they are so well define you feel as if you are right next them. The main characters are Eve and Jinks; Eve is a Mercenary and Jinks is a League Assassin. This is Jinks and Eve Story not only of how they met, but how they got to know each other and build a close personal relationship.

League Assassins do not have family or friends, but somehow Eve manages to get past Jinks' walls he has in placed that blocks out/in any emotions. How does she do this? You will need to read the book.

I do love Christine's series and the League series is one I really enjoy. This book gave me a good insight to Jinks' background, personality, character and life in the League. I would have like the story to have gone on a little bit longer. It has a pleasant ending. However, I felt like there was more to the story. Eve of Destruction is short but worth reading.

I received a free copy of this book for a honest review. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action, dependability and loyalty, building trust, relationships and love, The League and romance.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

After waiting forever for the next book in the series to come out this was something of a let down. Trying to figure out the time frame on the book, I think this must be set in the past (before Nykyrian meet Kiara and before he became Nemesis). Jayne Toole (Hadrian S. Erixour's future wife) is in prison. Eve is trying to scrap together enough money to free her but jobs are slow to come, when the loan shark she borrowed money from sends his enforcer to get his money back Jinx Shadowbourne (aka Fury) steps in. Later when Eve finds a badly wounded Jinx in an ally she risk her life to save him with the help of her friend Jedi. (Jedi is friends with Syn). Jinx is being hunted by other League assassins because he is the rightful heir of Eufora (he is also working with Savage to demolish the league but no one knows that). Deciding he has nothing to lose he rescues Jayne from the League Prison. Nykyrian (with Syn's help) covers his escape and later approaches Shadowbourne (Fury) and tells him the next time he helps a civilian to let him know so that he can help cover his tracks, he also tells him that if he signs away his rights to Eufora to the League Nykyrian's Adopted Father will stop trying to have him killed. Later Nykyrian is approached by Savage and asked to join their group.

Eve of Destruction by Sherrilyn Kenyon is a prequel novella to her League series that I absolutely love love love and you can imagine how excited I was to read how it all started and I remember being curious about Jinx when reading the League books so … Eve of Destruction is Jinx Shadowbourne, the League assassin, and Eve Erixour’s, a mercenary for hire (and also Jayne Erixour’s sister, she is the lead in Born of Blood FYI), story. The writer shares with us the world before the League series and we meet all familiar characters and there are several new ones as well so I can see a lot of fantastic stories in our future. It has been a while since Sherrilyn has released a new book so it felt like coming home and hanging out with old friends who did not yet know about the adventures they would have and that we all are aware of, IF you have read the League series … it made me want to go back and re-read them all again and I will do so as now I can look at the stories from a different angle as I know more … what a fantastic way of giving us more of the beloved characters while telling the story of the old friends who so totally deserve it!

I enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and starts off pretty quickly. Eve is a mercenary and she is trying to figure out a way to get her sister free when she happens to run into Jinx. He is an assassin of the League. He happens to step in when someone is trying to call in a debt on Eve as he isn't out for her. As she is leaving the bar she ends up helping Jinx out as she realizes that someone tried to kill him and while he came out on top and took him out, he is in a very vulnerable state. I enjoyed seeing them start to navigate the dangerous world they both live in and building something between them with all the issues and Jinx trying to figure out who is killing the other assassins and who the betrayer is. The story is on the shorter side and things happen quickly due to that. It keeps things moving and building the set up and I really enjoyed it. Well written and intriguing and am excited to see what is coming next.
The narrator did a good job with the story and characters and bringing it to life.

This is a short novella set in the author's sci-fi world of the League taking place a number of years prior to Born of Night and the rest. It was great to revisit that world again (plus we get a glimpse of some series faves when they were young). While the relationship connection btwn the 2 MCs developed very quickly it still felt real rather than rushed (hard to do with a novella, particularly a short one like this). Due to the limited page count however, this is more of a tease as to what the MCs lives are like -- what they do/involved with, how they got to that point, where they are (or want to be) headed -- rather real depth or insight. The story is well written and is an enjoyable page-turning quick read that left me satisfied and hoping that the author will be returning to the overall series/world with new novels of the quality of those prior books.

Sherrilyn Kenyon’s EVE OF DESTRUCTION (The League: Eve of Destruction #1) is a page-turner. Mercenary Eve Erixour is shocked when League Assassin Jinx Shadowborne comes to her aid at the local pub. So, when she finds him wounded in the street, she takes him home to nurse him back to health, even though it could mean her death.

Sherrilyn Kenyon does an exception job with this novella. It is an excellent fit to the world of the League. The characters are compelling and likable. They have both had difficult lives and have trust issues. Regardless they are drawn to one another. I enjoyed how Eve’s view of League assassins changed as she got to know Jinx. The story had interesting twists and outcomes.

At ninety pages, it is a quick read. I would have liked the story to be longer. I really liked the characters and was not ready for the story to end. I look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
