An entire medieval world will be forever changed when a spaceship crash-lands from a doomed planet. Monarchs will die, kingdoms will rise, and what seemed the end of the world for many…was only the beginning! An epic high-fantasy story set in a DC Universe where nothing is what it seems… From worldwide bestselling writer Tom Taylor (DCeased, Superman: Son of Kal-El) and acclaimed artist Yasmine Putri comes a generational tale of good and evil within a brand-new DCU!

Can 6 stars be a thing? Somehow, something amazing got even better. The plot is really strong, the action and humor are there, the artwork is incredible… I mean, there are so many Arthurian legend cliches and so many superhero cliches, but when you combine the two, it somehow feels so fresh and different. I love that the Els are locking up magic users, which is basically metas (the Flash gets a nice cameo, for example), and honestly, it’s hard to know who “the good guys” are because we get both perspectives, and as a Flash and Green Arrow fan, I side with King Pierce, but as a Superman and Batman and Black Canary fan, I side with the Els. It’s handled so well, all of it. Oh, Anissa and Jennifer!! Wonder Woman!! The frame narrative about fate, destiny, and the future!!
Memorable lines:
The Green Man: The ring told me to leave him. Constantine: Did it? Right. Well, you can’t argue with jewelry.
Harley to Bruce: You should lose the ears on your helmet. They don’t make you look intimidating. They make me want to pat you and offer you treats.
What if the DC universe was more... Game of Thrones?
With the death of Jor-El things are really beginning to heat up. The Green Man claims that there was no real choice with it - the Ring told him it had to be done. That doesn't mean anyone has to like it. Jor-El's kids are furious, and beginning to lash out. Things aren't looking great for Ollie, nor at they looking great for Jefferson's kids now...
Amazonia is beginning to look as if it's getting involved.
This is the way massive wars start, guys.
Love the artwork, and the premise is bonkers but fun. It's being pulled off nicely so far.
So war's on the horizon, war fueled by a prophecy which may be self-fulfilling. Jor-El is dead and both his sons (Kal-El and Bruce Wayne) want retribution. But even this causes strife based on how to get said retribution and who should have a say in it: Kal-El lashes out and says that Bruce, the bastard that he is in this universe, has nothing to do with it at all.
Meanwhile, Jor-El and Lara's daughter, Zala - supergirl maybe? - finds out her father is dead and strikes on her own. There's also the appearance of Wonder Woman, who is apparently in a relationship with Zala.
Also, the cameos are great: from Waller's minor role so far, to The Flash, Dinah Lance in issue one, King Shark, and Jimmy Olsen on top of the Robins - although sadly so far all the Robins have only shown up in issue one - the details are amazing.
I was disappointed by the lack of Jason Todd, particularly so knocked off one star. I honestly though the Robins would have a bigger role in this...
I think it was madly ignorant of King Jefferson to kill the king of the new gods and still believe that his invocation for war will be politely neglected by the one-digit remaining super-alien family of Kingdom El. It's like annoyingly dangling a bone in front of a dog and not expecting it to aggressively bite the bone and your finger. But otherwise, I loved the characterization of everyone else. Much recommended.
Absolutely phenomenal, somehow manages to be better than the last issue which was also perfect! Tom Taylor is a beast, this is without a doubt one of the greatest comics I’ve ever read and I’m so excited to keep reading! Also that wlw kiss????? My jaw dropped I’m so happy that was included I could cry

Many characters I do not know made this a little confusing. I enjoyed the Batman/Superman parts a lot, as well as Wonderwoman/Supergirl. The final scenes were really good as well.
