Bromance Chronicles #2

The Heartbreaker

Rate this book
Two frat brothers, one hot confession…let the heartbreaking commence!

Chase

My roommate found my spank bank and I’ve seen the way he’s been looking at me ever since.

I might be inexperienced and unsure, but I know watching Luca bring a guy back to his room makes my chest ache. I have enough going on figuring out my future, but why can't I stop thinking about him? One unexpected touch leads to more and when our chemistry ignites, I'm powerless against his hot body, those dirty words he growls against my throat…

Being with him is more complicated than I anticipated. Like, why doesn’t he want to kiss me?

If only taking what I want came as naturally to me as it does to him.

Luca

Learning that Chase is into guys was a pleasant surprise and it didn’t hurt that he was naked and dripping wet when I found out. I might have become a little obsessed, but it’s cool...I know how to avoid taking things too far.

At least, that’s what I thought…

Chase might be just what I needed in life, but can I really let someone in?

TALK ABOUT STEAM!

It was a light very sexy college story with good characters and a nice pacing. A great second book - and first full-length novel - for the series.

Both main characters were athletes, but it wasn't a sport romance - and hasn't been marketed as one. This aspect of their lives took just the right amount of place to enforce the story and give it some drive. I liked the whole post-college questioning part. Chase and Luca's choices were quite unexpected and that's what made it really entertaining. There were a few twists and turns, but the boys were what made this book very enjoyable.

These two were so good together. They had such an amazing chemistry! Chase was very supportive of Luca and confided in him, while Luca let himself lean on Chase and fell for the steady jock. I loved how they showed their vulnerability to each other. They were both out of their comfort zone actually, but they brought trust and hope into their relationship and shared beautiful - and very steamy - moments.

The resolution was maybe a bit too easy, but it was satisfying to see the boys in love and chasing their dreams. Besides, I'm more of a low-angst girl😉

I'm excited to read Gucci's story - even if I wanted to hit him at the bar. Both times! I guess there will be a lot of fun in the next book. Am I sensing a fake boyfriend trope?!

4.5 🛹 “The universe is a fascinating place that you can explain with complex mathematics, but the feeling of releasing a load into a hot guy’s hand is incalculable.”

I love skateboarders in MM romance. I wish there were more.

No angst, just fun
Fraternity brothers
Bi/gay
College Hockey player/skateboarder
Hot AF - a scene where their knees bumped was sexy. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I don’t make the rules)

Good read

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2021...

***Spoilers splash here and there***

This was a nice little story. When I was reading Parker story and he was best friends with Johnny and Chase. I had in my mind that they were bi-curious or gay themselves. Especially when Parker told them that they needed to try it.

It’s also good that Chase went and figured himself out and wanted to know what his sexuality was. Because not knowing can sucked especially when you don’t know what you want. But also have a idea.

Plus he help Luca find love, with him. Because Luca didn’t want a relationship at all only s*x. It took Chase to come into … no it took Luca to ask for Chase laptop in order for them to. Find love in each other. I’m glad they had a happy ending in the end.

Plus I can’t wait to read Johnny and Gucci story. Plus I want to know what Gucci real name is… because I wonder if that’s his actual name.

Super second book in a series

The writing is better then the first book and the story was so good. I really enjoyed reading this one. It’s fast read with just the right amount of side characters not to affect the story but to keep you wanting more.
5/5 ⭐️ for book 2 in the series now on to the next one

Chase is a rich kid who plays hockey and studies physics. He has never felt sexual toward anyone but has figured out that he's gay and is freaked out with what he feels for Luca, who hooks up with lots of people but doesn't do relationships. Luca is a skateboarding star who studies film. He makes money from endorsements to pay his bills--his mom has several younger kids and calls him for help with everything. As promised, the two hook up, and it is magic. The way Billie Bloom writes about them, in both voices, we feel the lust and love and terror on both sides. Their families are mildly problematic, their careers are complicated. I love stories with a virgin man. Seeing him develop with Luca's guidance and love makes me ragged with delight. Seeing Luca allow himself to love and be loved is heartbreaking and full of joy. They get a lovely happy ending too! Billie Bloom makes it very real and touching and sometimes funny; such a treat!

I dug this book. I liked the the differences between Chase & Luca & some of the 🔥 scenes were hot. (I always like the newbies). At times, I had a hard time remembering who’s chapter it was so I got a little hung up on that at times. I’ll have to go back & look but it was an editing issues where it was supposed to be coming from Chase’s POV but it was spoken as if it was Luca.

The Heartbreaker by Billie Bloom is a steamy New Adult sports romance between two frat brothers. I read the prequel novella to this series and loved the characters in that one but was missing the story, so I was hoping to love the characters again in this one but get the bonus of a story because it's a full length. Unfortunately my hopes weren't exactly fulfilled.

Luca was my favorite of the two characters. He had depth and personality. Bisexual and proud, he didn't do commitments because he had way too much on his plate already. Even though he doesn't do relationships, when he decides on Chase he definitely shows up and lays his cards on the table. It's not that Chase was a bad character, I just didn't fully get him. Was he supposed to be on the asexual spectrum? I don't know, but his thing was that he was never sexual interested in anyone before now and just out of the blue was having sexual urges which he chooses to explore with Luca...riiiight 🤔 The story has quality steam and sexual tension between our two main characters. I liked how Chase didn't just jump right into being comfortable being intimate with a man, and that they took their time with their exploration.

I'll be honest, both characters kind of lost me around the 60% mark. At which point they became so ridiculously immature it felt out of character. Then they never really came back personality wise for me, it just felt like they were completely different characters than they were in the first half of the book. Unless I'm wrong and just wasn't paying attention in the beginning lol

Anyway while I didn't love this as much as I expected to, I'll still read more in the series. I know the next book is about Gucci and Johnny, but I'll be keeping an eye out for Sams book, he better get one!!!

A Good Combination . . .

The chemistry between Luca and Chase starts right at the beginning in the fun scenario where Chase is showering. Luca hollers that he is in dire need of a laptop because his died right before he finished what he had to turn in at class. It isn’t until Chase tells him to go ahead that he remembers he was watching porn and never shut it down. Grabbing a towel, still covered in bubbles, he raced down the hall to get to Luca. Then watching Luca have fun teasing him was awesome! It set the tone for what was to become a new journey for each. Chase was not experienced; Luca was non-commitment due to his busy life. Yet both would move out of their comfort zone and fall in love.

So for me, the humor and the emotions made this a fun book to read. I love falling in love, and their realization of what was happening was cute. Both had a few family issues to deal with too to give us a better understanding of the characters and pressures in their lives. Overall, I think these two were really good together. I could feel the trust they shared and the comfort of relying on each other day to day.

So hot and heartfelt and hopeful

The Rulebreaker was a decent story but wasn't perfect, though the writing was good and made me want to read more by Billie Bloom.
This book is so much more than I expected after the prequel novella. The writing was better, the storyline gave me everything I wanted and needed, and I was drawn in right from the beginning, watching two men who had known each other for a few years suddenly see the other in a completely different light.
It is all completely new to Chase and Luca doesn't do relationships but they both fall so completely that they have no choice but to work through their feelings and issues, because being without the other is not an option. Watching them fall in love was a beautiful experience, and the chemistry between them set fire to my Kindle, their passion sizzling even when they were only kissing.
Keeping me reading, unable to put it down even when I should have been asleep, I loved this book and can't wait for the next book when I assume Gucci will redeem himself because he certainly didn't cover himself in glory in this one.

I finished it.

On a real note, this book was god awful, this has just been sitting on my kindle for months at 28% before I just decided fuck it , I’ll finish it. I only had about an hour read because this book is really short, and hour turned more into 30 minutes with the amount of chapters I skimmed.

There simply was no natural character development and the plot was essentially none existent. This definitely threads the line of fetishizing gay men. The sex was not by any means Steamy, it was kind of awkward but it was the most descriptive the author went. It’s like if you wanted to write gay sex, write Erotica because nothing remotely romantic happened in this book. This book does have a high rating due to low reviews but I still cannot grasp how?? Nothing happened.

It’s like this book was a rough draft, needed to be way longer, I can get past shitty writing but I can’t get past writing a romance with no romance???

Chase and Luca’s romance is full of sweet moments (and plenty of hot ones as well). They’re both facing the pressures of new adulthood— Chase has to figure out how to tell his parents he doesn’t want a hockey career, Luca’s been the caretaker for his mother and siblings for so long they seem unable to function without calling on him for help. They’re crazy busy, and everything’s up in the air, which makes it simultaneously the best and worst time to fall in love. I liked how careful the guys were with each other, and how they were honest and communicative throughout— their drama wasn’t arbitrary and they never lied to each other or failed to acknowledge their feelings. While this works as a standalone romance, characters from other books in the series are present in this one as well, and it’s an added bonus to see the familiar faces.

This is a cutesty-ish (with some heat) story about a virgin who is in the closet but wants to find 'the one' and a frat mate who is out, but also who doesn't do relationships. They are opposites on many levels. One comes from money, the other not so much. One is out and proud and the other is basically just coming to terms with his sexuality. One is a virgin and the other gets around. Both have major career decisions to make once they graduate. Both have huge opportunities with their skilled trade (one a pro-skater the other possible pro/semipro hockey player.) Despite all that, they find themselves drawn to one another. There are some laughs. Some steamy scenes. Not too much in the heartache department, but there is a little bit of a break-up/make-up. It alternates between POVs, and you get a few glimpses of other couples from previous and future books in this series of stand alones. It's a quick and easy read.

Well… there’s that.

College is such an incredibly significant time in our lives. Decisions are made which result in life-changing paths we walk down. Sometimes we have an opportunity to walk down that path with someone we love. Billie Bloom presents us with the second novella in their Bromance Chronicles series. With a mild level of angst we experience the fear and uncertainty of coming out, of first-time experiences with someone of the same sex, and with making career decisions which will likely affect our entire lives. WOW! The author carefully weaves the above into a heartfelt story that is indeed based in reality and reminds some of us of experiences from long ago. Kudos.

This adorable story is about Chase and Luca who are seniors at Michigan State University. Chase has been sexual toward anyone, he knows he is gay. Luca on the other have is a love ‘em and leave ‘em kinda guy. xx

Chase is battling with his parents expectations. While he wants to continue on in school, his father expects him to pursue a career in hockey. Luca makes money with his skateboarding videos but he has lost his inspiration lately. However his mother is constantly relying on him for money for herself and her younger children.

What I liked:
1. Positive representation of POC
2. 1st person POV
3. LOTS of steam
Humor.

DNF at around Chapter 3. The writing was basic, more tell than show, and the characters were bizarre caricatures. Apparently we're supposed to take the college student lounging in his Hugh Hefner robe, smoking cigars seriously. And the other MC was supposedly an amazing skateboarder, but never did anything to indicate this? He was never seen with a skateboard, and his room seemed completely devoid of them, too. Let alone shown riding one.

I will not be continuing with this series (or any other works by this author), which is a shame because I love the fruit themed covers, and the plots really interested me.

Liked it, 3.5 stars

Definitely an improvement from the prequel. The timing is weird. Just know that you will never be able to make heads or tails of it. I liked seeing Parker and Grayson again but that was confusing too because I'm not sure how well their story in this book matched up with the first book. That wasn't a huge issue for me. I enjoyed reading about Luca and Chase's relationship as it developed. Their "meet-cute" at the beginning was very funny. I know they already know each other but I don't know what else to call it. It's a nice story to pass away an afternoon.

After reading Rulebreaker (the short novella and first book in this series), I needed more of this author and boys.
Heartbreaker is taking place at the same time as rulebreaker, so it's really nice that I read the novella first. It gives you a different perspective.
I won't call Chase and Luca my favorite couple but they are so caring and hot for each other that I cannot stay away.
I can see a hint of fun in the writing and that's why I'm gonna stick around for more.

Thank you @Booksprout for the ARC!

Un-put-downable

Another amazing, un-put-downable installment... In actuality the first book in the series (unless you count the prequel) but I'm in awe of this author...

Pulling together a brilliant story arch as well as the characters, the relationships, the uniquely different take on jocks and the even better take on intimacy.

This book had me smiling, had my heart aching and my heart warming at some of these characters antics...

Devouring two books by this author in one day is a new feet. Well played Billie Bloom!

This one was so much better than the novella. Chase just figured out he was gay. He is attracted to his fellow frat brother Luca. He's a hockey player. Luca is bi-sexual and doesn't do relationships. But he finds himself attracted to Chase. He's a skateboarder.

I really enjoyed this story. These two were really perfect for each other. Luca never really felt like anyone cared for him and Chase was constantly there caring for him. Luca is always showing Chase new things. He's proud of who he is.

I thought that this was a fantastic book. I loved Chase and Luca together. I really enjoyed the connection and chemistry between these two. Chase has to make some life changes and scared of what people will think of him while Luca is being pulled in several different directions. Both Chase and Luca find calmness with each other and help but seek each other out. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book. I would recommend this book and Billie Bloom as an awesome author.

Chase is just really seeing what he likes for the first time while Luca is playing fields far and wide. Neither wants a relationship, but they certainly start falling into one. It is not a slow burn, but they don’t dive in either. Parts are very sweet. Luca does not have the easiest family life. Chase is working toward things he has not shared with many people, but now has to since he is graduating. I am really liking this series.

This nice guy is determined to finish first

Nice Guys Finish First is the second book in the Bromance Chronicles series and is an entertaining and steamy MM romance. There is a bit of an overarching story-line in the series and character crossover, but I still think this book can be read as a stand-alone. The story was more than I had expected but in a good way, with some interesting things happening.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

I took me a long while to get to the end of this book. I have picked it up and left it several times. I had a hard time with the frat house dynamics. liked that this is an interracial couple with heat. And that the sport career did not seem to be the end all to everything.and there is no shame in choosing to care for oneselves and not always do sonething to please others f.i. family. The guys get their hea.

omg loved!!!

This story was adorable. Love chase and Luca. They are both sweet guys and it was a hilarious moment at the start. With chase racing out of the shower to steal his lotto back he allowed Luca to borrow for school. Realizing he just recently was watching so spicy make on male porn material. Loved how they helped one another. And went slow. Their slow burn kinda insta chemistry was hot. So steamy with Luca helping chase learn all the things. Can’t wait for more!!

Acting out
4.5
I liked this short romance which is tender, steamy, with characters who prove to each other to be the one they want, but here, it's the youngest who is more ready, certain on what he wants and that he will do everything to get it.
I found the de-dramatization of a coming out interesting, even the reality of the characters is not the reality of everyone else.

Chase and Luca are roommates who are learning more and more about one another as their story progresses. Luca learns that Chase is into guys and sees roommates with benefits opportunity. Chase has feelings and wants to see if they can be more than just proximity convenient. Their relationship deepens over time in a slow burn from friends to lovers to relationship.

The characters and the story both needed more development (it's written in alternating first person but it was often hard to tell who was speaking). The writing and editing were very sloppy. Also, one of the MCs is supposed to be Black (I think??). The reader's only clues to this are some early (and lame) attempts at dialect, 2 references to curly hair, and the other MC admiring Luca's "tan" skin.
