The Two Daggers #2

The Land of God

Rate this book
Pain. His sister’s screams. And a beautiful face in the jeering crowd. When Henri of Maron woke, he had only a few memories of his brutal flogging, but he knew the world had changed. He had changed.

Now, as he grapples with the fallout from his disastrous decisions, war with the Mamluk army looms closer. To convince the city leaders to take the threat seriously, Henri and the grand master of the Templars must rely on unlikely allies and bold risks to avoid a siege.

Meanwhile, Sidika is trying to find a way to put her life back together. When she is forced to flee her home, her chance encounters with a handsome amir and a strangely familiar old woman will have consequences for her future.

The Land of God weaves the real historical figures with rich, complex characters and an edge-of-seat plot. Readers who enjoyed the Brethren series by Robyn Young and The Physician by Noah Gordon will appreciate this immersive tale set in the Middle East in the Middle Ages.

excellent read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I literally fell into the atmosphere of this series. Elizabeth takes you right into the way of life in that century . So intriguing I didn’t want this book to finish. Great for anyone interested in history and the drama and hardship for gentry and peasants alike at the time.

Another riveting book by Elizabeth Anderson! Was visiting family and it took lots of self-control to not ignore everyone and just continue reading. She's done a wonderful job of developing her characters and I definitely felt emotions about them, whether they were awful individuals or very likeable. Looking forward to book 3!

A brutal and gripping tale! What a great depiction of the devastation of the attack on Acre! I couldn't stop thinking about it even when I wasn't reading. Henri shows very real and fantastic growth in this book ... a far cry from the entitled prick he was in the first book. I really connected with Henri, Emre, and Sidika in this book and look forward to seeing how their stories play out going forward.

I only wish I knew how many books to expect from this series so I could better see the overall arc of the characters as each book progresses.

.The Land of God is a unique novel. It kept me spellbound from page one to the very last word! The tension and relationships are beautifully written and will keep readers coming back for more. I got chills up my spine more than once. I can't wait to see what happens next. This is a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author.

This book, book 2 in the trilogy, was much better than book1. There was more action plus I think we know so much more of the characters. Now I want to know how their story will turn out.

Vivid and lush — a real dive into history! From page one, I found myself utterly immersed in this epic, multiple point of view story set in Palestine during the 13th Century. I couldn’t put it down!

I've never given a review of a book as I've always felt when I love it and think it's great, I just don't have the right words. I am not a wordsmith like the author is! I shall try. With both the The Scribe and this book, I read them on my Kindle, and when they ended I had no idea I had come to the end of the book. When I did, I do believe I pouted because I so wanted them to continue and knowing that the next one isn't out yet, I was totally bummed that I had to wait. I definitely loved The Land of God more than The Scribe. The first one I struggled with learning many of the new words as I read and I got fixated on that rather than the story. This time, if there was a word I didn't know, I would get the idea and I was okay with that and not belabor the actual meaning. So in The Land of God, I just truly enjoyed the story and the wonderful writing of the author's. I may be a bit biased because I know the author, but I didn't know she was writing this novel series nor that she was interested in Palestine history in the 1200's. I have been amazed while reading both books at her ability to write about characters with such distinction that I can visualize them. What's critical to note, is that history continues to repeat itself, and in the 2000's many people still haven't evolved from the same prejudices that people had 800 years ago. But in the spirit of evolution, there are a few who can change and become the hero of their own stories. I can't wait for the next book!
