This officially became one of my favorites ever — it was primarily a story of love, life, revenge, and goodness.
I’m honestly so glad that Wei Jin/Huo Jue finally became happy and content with Jiang Li in the main story setting. A love story that spanned in two lifetimes that began with regrets and eventually a life-long happiness.
Huo Jue was a grand eunuch who was reborn back in when he was 16 years old. He was then able to avenge his family, save the people he loved, and become a pillar of the dynasty for the common people. Huo Jue, driven by the regrets in his past life, had only ever wanted to love Jiang Li, the love of his life whom he lost. I actually love that he never wasted any more time once he was reborn. He was determined to give Jiang Li a lifetime of happiness and he just did so very well.
Jiang Li was a good person and she only ever loved Huo Jue. A seemingly naive puppy love that had become her drive to become more. Many might not like her for holding on to a love that was unrequited, some might even call her stupid, but I actually find Ah Li brave and courageous. Like Huo Jue said, it was Ah Li who was braver than the two of them. She was never a coward. She loved and she did everything to give that love. That was why in this life, Jiang Li only deserved the best. She was Huo Jue’s sunshine and he did his best to protect her brilliance.
Huo Jue and Jiang Li deserved to have their happy ending — they were just two innocent and carefree souls who became the victims of the worst of humanity.
I also love the secondary couple — Xue Wuwen and Wei Xuan. They carried so much responsibilities in their shoulders and I was glad that they became happy in this life.
I also love that the author was so generous about her special chapters. She basically gave us three story lines: (1) the rebirth after the painful past, (2) the heartbreaking past where all the couples were separated by death, (3) the rebirth before the painful past which gave us the happy endings for all the Wei Family children and Xue son. As much as I love the main story line, I preferred the story before the past because there we got to see Wei Che and Yin Su Shi — the lovers who never even knew their mutual affection in (1) and (2). I honestly cried so hard for the three Wei children and their whole clan, they never did anything wrong. 😭😭
