A Council Of Ghosts by Ryan Harper Jones is a brilliant new fantasy adventure book full of fast-paced twists and turns that'll keep the reader on the edge of their seats from the beginning of the book right down to the very end. This book was an emotional philosophical rollercoaster ride that left me wanting more!

I absolutely loved the writing as it had a great flow and, at times, showcased a beautiful lyrical quality, especially in the descriptions that helped elevate the narrative to an entirely different level. The characterisation was the best part of the book and I was able to relate to not only the main characters of Saul, Ruby and Henry but also to the secondary characters.

I would strongly recommend this book to all fantasy readers, especially children's fantasy and adventure lovers because it has a lot to offer to everyone.

Title: A Council of Ghosts Author: Ryan Harper Jones Language: English Genre: Fantasy

This is a book for that post Harry-Potter generation who are still searching for wizards, sorcerers, and witches. A Council of Ghosts will transport you into a magical world of intrigue and danger, where sorcerers are pitted against mortals, and where betrayal is a way of life.

The suspense and doubts about the traitors gave a new flavor of mistrust. While the characters try to free themselves from the binds of the evil forces, the story brings about another secret and challenge for them. There is a sense of upcoming disaster in the story. The characters, the reality, the suspense, and even the conclusion were all great. I'd recommend this to all Potterheads.

A Council of Ghosts by Ryan Harper Jones is a fantasy book based on the two worlds - Upperworld and Netherworld. The world we reside in forms the Upperworld while the other one is Netherworld.

The book opens with a mysterious presence in the Upperworld that leads our group of protagonists into the Netherworld. It is on the brink of war when these three children from Upperworld enter it by mistake. The journey slowly turns into a full-fledged discovery of secrets and mysterious occurrences with pieces missing. This book covers their journey and the challenges they had to face to survive and return to the Upperworld. The threat, however, is not over for them.

The writing style of the author is enticing and fast-paced, filled with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The events are resolved and the actions of the characters lead to revelations. These further add slowly towards the big secret reveal. The author has succeeded in keeping the readers hanging on to every next word while other twists await them at the next step. I was so captivated by the story that I finished this book in two days.

The narrative provides sporadic and brief descriptions of the background of the characters. However, these pieces of information are enough to spark curiosity in the readers about the character's actions in the present and their relations with the past. I tried to solve my dilemmas multiple times but ended up guessing them wrong. The suspense will make you feel the anticipation of the upcoming events.

There are numerous monsters and crazy events through which the children escape. The descriptive details of those events are delivered vividly by the author. I was flinching now and then and involved with the characters as much as they were with their situations. The presence of magic and other supernatural elements make this book familiar to the readers of Harry Potter and LOTR, but still, it is different from them. I would love to read the sequel to know what will happen now that the big secret is revealed to the children.

The suspense and doubts about the traitors gave a new flavor of mistrust. While the characters try to free themselves from the binds of the evil forces, the story brings about another secret and challenge for them. There is a sense of upcoming disaster in the story.

I will give this book 4 out of 5 stars. This is because I really enjoyed reading this book. There was a balance of pace and detailed descriptions while explaining the past events and present happenings. The stories of the past described in brief prevented the loss of sense. The characters developed and discovered themselves throughout the course of the story without any sudden change in their attitudes. The near misses and witty escapes amused me and the sarcastic comments drew out a few chuckles as well.

Overall, this is a wonderful book of fantasy that still has some unresolved questions that require solutions; maybe in the next book of this series. If you are a fantasy fan and like to read fast-paced books with twists and turns that keep you thrilled, then this book is for you. Just go for it.

Here is a lovely start to a middle grade series!
It is a dual world fantasy that starts in a little rural village which has a decidedly fairytale feel, a village of quaint old cottages and curious people, in which something is oddly amiss. It’s in the present and yet somehow not in the present. There are strange goings on. From the start there is a sense of an indefinable threat in the background and the three children who decide to check out some anomalies are quickly sucked into an off-world adventure which spirals into an absorbing drama.

The alternative reality into which they are drawn is the familiar one of fantasy fiction – strange beasts and other sorts of humans, swords and arrows rather than guns, forests, mysteries… and by this point anything seems possible. It’s a recipe that works well for kids, from Narnia onwards, perhaps because that is what growing up is actually like for children: a series of portals opening from the familiar into the unknown, each stage bringing alarming challenges but new discoveries too. Other familiar themes also pick up on the preoccupations that drive childhood into adolescence – a child lost and in danger, children separated from parents, enounters with unfamiliar kinds of people, journeys into danger, discovering one has powers one never guessed. I’m not suggesting that the book is formulaic – it isn’t: like adult books, it weaves something fresh out of the familiar preoccupations of its audience.

This new voyage into the territory introduces, happily, a female protagonist to die for – this is a rare achievement (actually rare for it even to be attempted) in a book meant equally for boys and girls). The two boys are also carefully developed and immediately appealing – they have frailties that boys will identify with and overcome them in ways that are at once plausible and uplifting. There are betrayals and surprises; not everyone tells the truth, not everyone is what they seem. The book is entirely self contained, and satisfyingly so, but the surprise at the end implies new adventures to come. Children will love this.

A Council of Ghosts is written by Ryan Haper Jones and narrated by Aaron Smith. Sadly, I had to put off reading this book due to the flu, but I am so happy I finally got the opportunity to read/listen to it. I went in blind, unsure what to expect other than it being a fantasy book.

The book's primary focus is Saul, Ruby, and Henry, who accidentally pass through a portal into the Netherworld, which is on the verge of war. They must journey to find the only person who can create a portal to get them home. They currently live in the Upperworld.

The book is packed full of character after character and different cities along the way, not to mention the fanciful creatures they encounter. A character that can talk to animals and another who is a ghost whisper! There were a few times I was a little overwhelmed by the number of characters the children were encountering, and I thought I couldn’t possibly keep track of all of them.

Ryan is a great storyteller, and I loved his dedication to detail and the world he created. Aaron Smith is a phenomenal narrator. I loved all of the many voices he had for the many characters in the book. There were a couple of times I thought there was more than one narrator! He really aided in the suspense and the action that Ryan so cleverly wrote.

While the book was a little slow initially, I felt it picked up quickly and drew me in. I loved the great storytelling and would recommend this book to middle-school or high-school fantasy readers. Hell, even us adults! I loved how the children evolved throughout the book, and I never saw the twist at the end coming. It was thrilling and exciting.

Thank you to Ryan Harper Jones for gifting me an eARC of A Council of Ghosts. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Council of Ghosts is a fun, energetic ride for all audiences, which is refreshing to say about a book these days. I love the story and the settings. I love the fantastical beasts, and most of all, I love the main characters. Three school age children discover a portal providing passage into The Netherworld where most of the story unfolds.

Lush settings, imaginative animals, and interesting characters fill this fantasy world. To start off, the reader feels like the sheer number of characters may overwhelm the story, but soon, the most important things to commit to memory become self-evident. The main thrust of the plot revolves around the effort to get the children back home.

There are chase scenes, and fight scenes, and rescue adventures to keep the reader engaged. There are heroes to root for and enemies to vanquish. There is an impending battle for which preparations are a fun part of the story.

I must say that a couple of chapters seem misplaced or out of sequence, but this doesn't slow the reader down and these chapters add to the story. The context is easy to keep organized, and the story feels complete at the end.

I also must say that the three main characters are children, but their reactions to events and maturity require a bit of the suspension of disbelief concept.

There is a wonderful plot twist at the end making the reader wonder when the rest of the story might find its way to bookshelves. This is a great read and I highly recommend everyone to spend time with A Council of Ghosts by Ryan Harper Jones.

The story begins with a middle aged man who visits his village after years. While he's in doubt if someone's following him up or not. He lives all alone in a beautiful cottage and isn't social with anyone.
A year later, two strange man followed him up and a strange incident took place, which was witnessed by three young school going kids Saul, rubi and Henry. While they are completely shocked to what they have seen, they sets themselves in an unknown expedition unknowingly whilst wanting to know a lot of everything.
The story takes us through a beautiful magical presence and horrifying as well which was very surprising for me. I expected it to be a completely horror fiction book but it has much more than i expected.

I accepted the authors request to review this book because I saw many people saying it reminded them of Harry Potter. I also wanted to give it a shot since it is aimed for a middle grade to high school audience and that’s where I sit when it comes to fantasy because it can be so complex. This book did not disappoint! I do have to admit that there were so many characters that I got quite confused. There was one character who was described in the beginning that reminded me of mad-eye moody from Harry Potter. Ruby reminded me of Hermione and Rabin reminded me of Dumbledore. There was one scene where Arak had a bearded man up against the wall that reminded me of a specific scene in Harry Potter when Professor Quirrel was getting yelled at by Snape. I absolutely loved how a ghost whisperer is a part of the book as well! There were a couple parts I saw coming but I definitely did not predict the full ending! One of my favourite parts was when Henry was at the cottage. I feel like there could be more details as some moments felt rushed which is why it couldn’t have it a five star. My favourite thing about this book is that it feels like this could take place in the real world. The author is able to make you feel like the Netherworld can be a real place!

Follow Saul, Ruby and Henry into the Netherworld on a adventure through this fantasy world.

Here we have portal fantasy that sits in the realms of finely blended Harry Potter meets Narnia. It’s a fast paced fantasy adventure that has definite legs. We cover a lot of geographical ground and see a lot of unusual creatures throughout the book and It definitely had a solid well rounded/filled out feel to it.

So this is not my usual read as it sits comfortably in the YA bracket, which I don’t usually love, but although it’s definitely accessible for all ages, it didn’t feel simplistic or childish at all.
I found it moved at a great pace and there wasn’t a page wasted at all. Even with a story that included a fair amount of downtime, Ryan managed to seed a lot of lore and history into those moments.

As mentioned, there are a lot of Harry Potter vibes here and so this will probably appeal to many HP lovers(especially the ones that washed their hands of the franchise for obvious reasons) as well as people who like their fantasy books to not fry their brains with sheer complexity.

An excellent start to what I assume will be a continuing story.

There is just something so enchanting about reading books that are set under magical backdrop with fictional characters that have special powers.

In the book, ‘A Council of Ghosts’ by Ryan Harper Jones, the author has created such fantasy land which will transport the readers into a new world.

The book begins with the introduction of Saul, Ruby, and Henry, who have found themselves in a strange predicament and seeming have no one to offer them any answers.

When they find out that just being idle would not fetch them any results, they all embark onto an adventure that will have many twists and turns.

Along this journey that these three protagonists have decided to go on, they face many roadblocks and hindrances from those who are against humans.

Now will this trio sustain and conquer what they want, or will they succumb to the enemies and leave their mission halfway remains to be seen.

This was quite an engaging book, the one which will definitely make the readers loose themselves in to the story, hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

👻 A Council Of Ghosts 👻
By Ryan Harper Jones

✒️Some books are almost impossible to review. If a book is bad, how easily can we dwell on its flaws! But if the book is good, how do you give any recommendation that is equal to the book? Unless you are an author of equal worth to the one whose work you review, what powers of prose and observation are you likely to have to fitly adorn the work?

✒️This novel give us a different experience where we can experience different genre in one novel. It has horror, Mystery, Thriller and unexpected twist and turns. The story revolves around two world where the people from both the world meet . Where the magician is stand opposite to humans.

✒️In a nutshell then, A Council Of Ghosts, while likely to entertain those who enjoy fast-paced thrillers, mystery or watching documentaries on daily basis, is weighed down by unsympathetic characters, an uneven plot and a lack of authorial flair. Regrettably, it all culminates into one ponderous, confusing, mostly mediocre trudge that overstays its welcome..

Overall Recommended!!!

A Council of Ghosts by Ryan Harper Jones
I was expecting a fairly predictable fantasy setup, it was anything but that. The story has a unforgettable mystical vibe throughout the book, that evokes wonder coupled with well developed characters. The storyline follows an unanticipated direction with parallel dimensions, battle of sorcerer vs mortal, vampires, ghosts and what not, and that truly pay offs making it a delightfully read.

This is just the extra source of entertainment I wanted today and Ryan Harper has done a wonderful job writing this book.
I felt instantly connected to Henry, Saul and Ruby.
With well detailed plot of wonderful intricacies, a narration that blurs the line between reality and fiction the author has woven a fantastic book.
The writing and plot is great but I have to add it was a bit slow paced for my taste in the start and as the plot picked up the pace in the second half it was smooth ride for me.Overall it was a lucid and fluid fantastical story, with memorable ending

It is a fantasy book. The main protagonists of the book are Ruby, Saul and Henry.
The book covers the journey from one world to another world. One is the upperworld and the other is the Netherworld.

How if the story consists of vampires, ghosts and other scary things. These three people mistakenly entered this world . The scenes are very well described .

A lot of moments are narrated and experienced by those three people.
The story is full of suspense, horror and thriller .I was really hooked till the end.

The book is really a page turner .
Really it's an amazing story. I definitely recommend this book to everyone. The one who selects this book will never regret reading this.

The cover is really an intriguing one that makes the reader ponder over what the story is about. Whereas the title is a very straight forward. The plot of the book is really engaging and interesting. A lot of suspense behind. Overall its a very nice read
Highly recommended.
Happy reading.

From strange encounter to strange characters and secrets, this book is worthy reading. Do add this book in your tbr list and thank me later.

** Perfect gift for Halloween. My personal fav Fantasy character is Vampire so I always get amused by that. **

Ryan Harper Jones has not shied or has left any stone unturned and has composed an astonishing story with a smooth stream and clear language making it simple to envision and imagine the scenes. I could, in a real sense feel the energy that the creator had set as the story pushed forward.
This plot gives us an alternate encounter where we can encounter different genres in a single book. It has frightfulness, Mystery, Thriller and surprising exciting bends in the road. The story rotates around two universes where individuals from the two universes meet. Where the entertainer remains inverse to people.

The characterisation was the most amazing aspect of the book and I had the option to connect with not just the principal characters of but with other characters as well.
I would firmly prescribe this book to all those readers who love to read magical fantasies, particularly youngsters' dream and experience darlings since it brings a ton to the table to everybody.

I'd like to start by saying that I received a free review copy of this book, and also I am *slightly* older than the target audience so I have tried to read this with less jaded eyes. I don't think this book will cross over into the adult market the way some other fantasies do though.
This was a good, lively fantasy with lots of quirky characters and fantastic creatures, although it was a little difficult to keep track of the some characters who only had brief introductions. I was amused by some of the mercenaries names, which were reminiscent of Roald Dahl's giants
Some of the phrasing felt a bit clunky to me, with too many adjectives or repeated words, but it's nothing a little superficial editing wouldn't fix. I'm aware that since I have a digital copy, some of this may even have been fixed before printing.
I think middle grade readers will be highly entertained by all the twists and backstory, and there's scope for a lot of future adventures in this world.

The novel A Council of Ghosts by Ryan Harper Jones is jam-packed with suspense, thriller, and other elements. It's excellent that the author picked the plot. The Upperworld and the Netherworld serve as the foundation for this work.

Our group of characters is led into the Netherworld by a strange entity in the Upperworld at the beginning of the book. When these three youngsters from the Upperworld accidentally join there, it is on the verge of war. This book details their trip and the difficulties they encountered while trying to stay alive and get back to the Upperworld.

I truly adore the book's surprising finale. It's amazing how the author keeps the reader interested all the way through. The characters, the reality, the suspense, and even the conclusion were all great. I wanted more from this book since it took me on an emotional and philosophical rollercoaster journey.

Those who are j.k.rowling's Harry Potter fan this book can provide them with best of the time. Mystery, thrill, suspense, adventure, monster attack, vampires story whts not in here. The title itself sounded cool and at the same time spooky. Gothic elements is also there which provides extra charm to the book.

The protagonists which were a group of three children ended up meeting with pale eyes and thrusty throats. From there their journey starts to stay alive with every passing time avoiding the horror atmosphere. It has every garnishing flavour which needed in order to make the book alive. The wizardy things, mysticism, unbelievable truth has taken place in the whole journey of the book.

With the lucid language the author tries to offer a great company to the readers which I found engaging .
