In December 1994, the Tradd Holiday Ball was the most desired event in Charleston's high society. Socialite Sophia Tradd craves to escape her predetermined life, including a probable marriage proposal to a man she doesn't love. The handsome biracial Naval student, Joshua Moultrie shares a passion at first glance, then a kiss with her but Sophia's remarks about his circumstances kill the moment.

This book was a very quick read. It is the mid 1990s and Sophia has just returned home from a year in France to Charleston, SC. She is attending a holiday ball with a family friend, but locks eyes with a handsome man across the room. She meets Joshua and there is instant attraction. Sophia is from a wealthy white family and Joshua is biracial (black mom/white dad). Sophia makes a stupid remark and perhaps has doomed the relationship, but Joshua forgives her. The two have to navigate family and friends reactions to their mixed race relationship.
The book is relatively clean in terms of language, but there are some steamy love scenes between the unmarried couple. While I appreciated the attention to a biracial relationship, I would have liked to know more about both Joshua and Sophia. Their phone conversations seemed very formal, and the attraction between them was physical. Why other than the sexual attraction did they care about each other? What did they have in common. They didn't have any conversations except about their attraction to each other, and people's reactions to their relationship, and the difference in their social status.
I won this book as part of a Facebook contest, and am thankful to the author for sharing the book with me. All opinions are my own and freely given.

Sophia comes from a prominent high society family in Charleston and certain things are expected of her such as marrying someone from another prominent family, but when she meets Joshua she realizes that her parents desires are different than hers. But can the love between them survive racism in the 1990’s. Joshua is biracial and has always had to deal with insensitive comments and has always handled it with dignity. But when resistance from his family and Sophia’s family are apparent, can they convince their families that color doesn’t matter and that love is? I really enjoyed reading this love story and I definitely recommend it

From Book Blurb on Book Cover: From Suzie Webster - Author of the Lowcountry Liaisons series
“Post has written a story of a love challenged by centuries of tradition in the scenic and historic city of Charleston, South Carolina. Her feisty heroine, Sophia, and honorable Naval officer, Joshua, rise above the racism and judgment from family and friends refusing to deny the instant attraction and eventual love they have for one another.”
