Playing Vinn

Vinn

Honouring my father’s wish for me to marry his friend’s daughter wasn’t something I thought about until the day actually came for me to take Sofia as my wife. Her father assures me she’s a good girl who’ll give me no trouble. But from the moment I marry Sofia, I realise things aren’t going to be simple.

She’s defiant, angry, and she challenges my every word. She blames the mafioso for deciding her fate and forcing this marriage on her, and I guess she’s right, but it’s too late, so she needs to suck it up and accept this is our life now.

It’s one thing to give me the run-around while ignoring my rules but another to cross me, and boy, does she cross me. Sofia takes revenge to another level . . . and I’ll make sure she pays dearly for it.

Sofia

Challenging Vincent Romano wasn’t regularly done until I came along. He’s perplexed by my constant need to question him and my addiction to doing the exact opposite of what he says. I never was the type of girl to follow orders.

London offers me so much more than Italy, and while I might be stuck in this ridiculous marriage with Vinn, that doesn’t mean to say, I won’t be following my dreams . . . even if it means I have to take down the great mafia boss.

Ignoring the warnings from my cousin, I begin a hate campaign against my new husband, confident I won’t be discovered. And even if he does work it out, what’s he going to do, kill me? I’m his wife, for better or for worse. After all, he is the one who keeps reminding me that this is our life now.

I’m so disappointed! I was really excited to read this book. Vinn was completely horrible. He finds out Sophia is not a virgin and calls her a whore and treats her really bad. After he finds out that the reason why is because she was raped, he continues to call her a whore. When he finds out she’s the one writing the articles about him (which is a bad move on her part, but come on, it doesn’t warrant killing Sophia) he puts a gun to her head and is about to kill her until Vinns sister runs in saying Sophia is pregnant. He then decides to let her live long enough for her to give birth and then he will kill her. Vinn keeps her as a prisoner and tells her repeatedly that once she gives birth and kills her, he’s going to marry her cousin (who was her best friend) and have the cousin raise the baby with him.

These are just a few of the horrible highlights. Normally I’m all for the guy being a complete a**hole and having to redeem himself. But there was so much abuse there was no coming back from it.

H & h had an arranged marriage and they are at loggerheads and don't like each other.
Vinn (H) was still pining over his married secretary with whom he had a fling and at one point wishes that she was preggers with his child. Then later on he was having plans to replace his betraying (she doesn't cheat on him) wife (h) with her cousin (who was a backstabbing bitch!). The h was stupid enough to leak her mafia husband's secrets to some third grade newspaper. I hated the part where he asked her cousin to sleep in the same bed as his to get over his wife (h).
I felt the ending was rushed.

If this were a Reddit AITA post the response would be ESH—everyone sucks here.

She’s a moron. The title says it all, she actually thinks she’s going to play him. He’s a mob boss, how does she think he’ll react when he finds out? It’s not pretty.

He’s all about protect his tough reputation and she’s making him look bad. The only thing saving her? She’s pregnant, he’ll wait and kill her after she delivers.

There’s no coming back from any of this.

Disclaimer… I rarely like mafia stories.

I really need to stop reading random FB rec’s.

When Vinn called Sofia a whore and threatened to rape her, I was out. There may be women who find this kind of book "romantic" but I am NOT one of them. In fact, it's books like this that make me wish I could give negative stars.

Vinn and Sofia

There was a lot I liked about this book but quite a bit fell flat. I didn’t read Ravens book first though I have read some Of the others in this series. It’s a moc and Sofia is not into mafia Don Vinn. There a lot of push back from Sofia and she in your face with Vinn. Sofia writes anonymous articles for a gossip rag showing Vin. In a bad light.
Vinn wants to kill the person writing the articles. Just when they are finally getting together her cousin who is crushing on Vinn rats Sofia out. Vinn monologues over and over again that he has to kill Sofia because she made him look bad to his mafia family. He holds a gun to her head about to pull the trigger when he suddenly finds out she’s pregnant. He locks her in the attic on a nasty mattress with a pee pot but he loves her but he’s got to killl her. He then torments her by moving her cousin Into his bedroom but he’s just going to sleep
With her - literally not fck her until He murders Sofia-after she has his baby and gives the baby to her cousin…. And marries her cousin— because the cousin is perfect wife material….But he loves Sofi… but she made him look bad.- so he has to murder her and steal her baby….So finally he decides to let Sofia out of the stuffy attic and take her for a walk and Lo and behold they get captured by the bad guys. Sofia helps hanging upside down beaten and handcuffed Vinn get free and then runs away because duh he’s said a gazillion times that he’s gonna murder her and give her baby to her cousin and marry her cousin too. Vinn is mind boggled— why would she run off and leave him????? Sofia flees to
Ireland. Vinn finds her because PSYCHE he wasn’t really gonna murder her and give her baby to her cousin he was going to just send her away…. Dude I’m not buying it. You’ve planned out the whole murder and baby stealing scenario in your mind and to your friends over and over …. and already have the cuz shacked up
In your room… I call bullshit! Anywho… he’s really in love with Sofia… so dumb Sofia forgives him
And they live hea. no cheating in this book

This is NOT A STANDALONE.

It cannot be read without reading Raven’s Place. You miss so much of H’s affair and his feelings/behavior with the OW (HIS CURRENT FUCKING SECRETARY) that he is made irredeemable BEFORE HIS BOOK EVEN STARTS.

lol this was very basic, the writing was somewhat mediocre and the romantic relationship wasn’t all that convincing. I only read this book bc I saw it had a painful scene, so at least I got what I was looking for but the grovelling was non existent.

I also understand this is book is part of a series but it gives the impression that it can be read as a stand-alone when I don’t think it does. The book starts in a middle of a scene and I had to go back and see if I missed a chapter or prologue. There were also side characters mentioned that are clearly part of the earlier books but no effort was made to at least briefly summarise who they are and why they are relevant to our main characters.

Worst book ever, reasonings below
1. He called her a whore after finding out she was raped
2. He called her a bitch all the time
3. He was interested in her cousin even though he claimed he was only using her to hurt Sophia
4. He “slept” with her cousin to replace her
5. He locked her away in a hot attic and made her pee in a bucket while pregnant!
6. He force fed her when she was sick due to pregnancy and only reason it was stopped was cause his sister saved her.
7. He said as soon as the baby was born, he was going to kill her and give the baby to her cousin and marry her after she was dead.

He said he did all these things to protect her and cause he was in love with her? He never intended to kill her, just send her away until he came up with a plan? This is where I’m highly confused. What plan? Who was in danger? I reread three times and I still don’t understand.

I don’t hide that I’m a big fan of Nicola Jane and I did receive an ARC for Playing Vinn. We get to know Vinn from him being a side character in her King Reapers series.
I thought I knew Vinn or had an idea of how his book would go and let me say it blew my mind!
Sofia was everything you want in a heroin. She’s fierce she’s sassy she’s strong and she’s determined. She’s been hurt by Vinn and lashes out and Vinn is an over bearing controlling typical Alpha mafia Capo. They clash and there’s fireworks. The story line is compelling and keeps you turning the pages. I cannot express how much I loved this read!

Vinn is horrible

No romances, not even dark romances, should have the H or h treat the other one this horribly or be this hurtful. It was disgusting. He wanted to sleep with Zarina and kept her around and no main character should sleep with or want to sleep with someone else in their book. It was just awful and heartbreaking and utterly cruel. Romances should never be that way. And Raven still worked for him. He should have stopped that out of respect for his wife, but he was horrid to her and disrespectful. I was really upset by and disgusted with this book.

Both are Stubborn

Vinn and Sophia are married which was an arrangement. Now I must say I thought Sophia to be quite immature and stubborn. While I consider Vinn to be bossy and not care about what others wanted.

Not quite sure if I could've forgiven Sophia for her betrayal. I understand why Vinn does, but because of who he is you would of thought he would've figured out that it was her.

This is a review of a free copy I got! It’s a honest review given by my free will!

Finally a mafia book from Nicola! I love it! I love her other books so was looking forward to this. To get Vinn in his own book, to look more into him. When he realizes that he has never been in love before even if he thinks he has. How he has to fix messy mafia business at the same time that he needs to figure out how to have a marriage.
Sofia.. poor girl, she has been betrayed by her dad, sent to London to marry a man she don’t know. She hates him in fact. But the line between hate and love is thin.
When the columbian mafia gets a hold of you and want revenge for killing the leader’s brother… What do you do?

To say I didn't enjoy this book would be a lie I freaking loved it... I love Vinn he's a bad guy just looking for love and when he finally thinks he has it it comes crashing down.
Do I think Sophia is the best woman for him ..I don't think so I really want him to have the damsel in distress where he can be her Knight in shining armour. Instead he has a self centred brat who only thinks of herself no matter the war Vinn is now stuck with all because of her and her family.. I do feel sorry for her when things come crashing down, of course no woman wants to see or even think of the man they love with someone else let alone someone who was supposed to be so close to her..I really want to swear I can't believe Zarina. How could you Vinn what a dumb a $$ move.
The ending is just sweet I hope there is more of Vinn to come as with compromise there comes growth and these two need to grow together.

I have been waiting for Vinn’s story and oh was it worth it. Vinn has always been a favorite background/side character when reading the Kings Reapers MC and I’m so happy he got his own book. Especially after seeing all the drama between him and Sofia in Raven’s book. That drama did not stop in this book and boy did it have me heated at times. I went between wanting to smack some sense into Vinn to smacking Sofia. Those two were so stubborn but watching they come together was so frustrating but entertaining.

This is possibly one of the worst books I’ve read. I’ve never had a book that has left me literally nauseous. Vinn treated his arranged wife absolutely horrible. Yeah she fucked up but he looked her in his attic while she’s pregnant. Told her he’s gonna kill her after she gives birth and give the baby to her cousin and marry her. He also let her cousin sleep with him (they didn’t do anything) but he wanted to do it with her. I’ve read countless books that may be “extreme” or too difficult for others but this is the absolute worst.

why am I angry..?

Don’t get me wrong, good story line, very intriguing, mystery, absolute betrayal on both sides…

Just one question — does this author HATE women. These men are absolute idiots, like genuinely mean to their women (I’ve read the whole series), mean to people they love, cheaters, bullying gaslighters … and within 3 pages of the ending..BOOM, they are forgiven and all is well.

Is a book supposed to make me angry?

Vinn has to marry Sofia to ensure family ties. But started as a hard task change into a battle of wills.🤣🤣 They fight every step of the way, but at the end they fall for each other😍😍 A hard, sweet, steamy, kind of romantic and with a HEA at the end. Can't wait for the next story in this universe 🥰🥰

Wow once I started this book I found it hard to put down Nicola kept you turning the pages. Sophia gets married to Vinn by her father even though she doesn't want to but she has no choice. Therefore their relationship doesn't get off to a good start and they "hate" each other. No matter how much Vinn tries to tempt Sophia she rejects him every time and he won't force a woman. She manages to hurt Vinn in a way he didn't see coming especially now they were both in love with each other. You really feel for Sophia when everything hits the fan and to uphold his reputation Vinn has to take action for her betrayal. I don't want to tell you too much more and spoil the story. Will they get a HEA or is everything lost forever.
I received an arc for my honest review for NNBB. if you love a fast-paced Mafia romance with twists and turns you don't see coming you will love this read. It was another book hangover for me.

He thought he was in love with two other women, but of course the last one is the real thing and no one compares. Bitch, I get that it is possible, but you gotta show it to me. Nothing in this awfully vapid book does, so yeah I don't buy it, but that's not the worst.

Ok author, you want to tell instead of showing, fine, but, BUT if you choose to do that, THEN you must have good characters. And instead what do I get? He is supposed to be a mafia boss and acts like a teenager who's shoelace challenged. I can't deal with shit this bad.

Suspension of disbelief only goes up to a certain point.

I didn't hate Sofia, I know others did but I never felt that way. I really didn't like the force feed scene. I also didn't feel the chemistry between Sofie and Vinn. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it

3.75 stars!
I Knocked off a star as the book DOES CONTAIN CHEATING!!!
This is my second book from this author, and I was over the moon to find another U.K based author.
I'm gonna get straight into my review.
Here's my thoughts...

What I liked...

* Sophia... I've seen people say she was a brat and immature...I don't care about that! I'm just happy for the FMC to not be complete Doormat!!! Bring on the brats!!!
This poor girl was forced to marry a man who was awful to her and already cheating before they married (Raven).
Sophia was also a deeply traumatised young woman.

* Gia...love this girl...I've not read her book and now I want to!

* Some pretty good spice!

* Great writing...this author knows how to write!!! and its the only reason this book didn't get 2 stars...there were practically zero typos or grammar errors, and she really does know how to write.
My issues with this author will be expressed later.

* A HEA ( I think?)

What I didn't like as much...

* The rushed ending... this couple still hadn't sorted their issues at 96% yes 96%!!!
we were dragged through 96% of this book and were then given 3 pages of a HEA...WTAF happened, did this author forget? run out of time? writing to many books to quickly? What a disappointment!

* Zirinda...seriously...we are supposed to believe that this girl went from "being like a sister" to Sophia, to then being complicit in Sophia being murdered, having her child taken from her, and Zirinda marrying the murderer and raising the child with him...my head was hurting and my kindle nearly got thrown ABSOLUTELY NOT, SO UNBELIEVABLE...AND Zirinda suffered no consequences for her huge and disgusting betrayal!

* Vinn..so at times I liked him, but for most of the book he was awful!!! No grovel at the end.
He put a gun to Sophia's head, imprisoned her, force fed her, cheated, humiliated her. And she simply forgave him...NOPE!!!

* Cheating...I only read this book as I was told there was no cheating in this book (major trigger for me, huge no no )THERE DEFINATELY IS CHEATING!
Let me ask you this...if your HUSBAND locked you in an attic, planned to murder you after your baby was born, told your COUSIN (who is like a sister to you) that he is going to marry her (after murdering you) and she will bring up your baby. He then moves the cousin into his bed (no sex, hand holding) flirts with her relentlessly, holds hands with her in front of you, treating her like his wife...would you consider this cheating??? CAUSE I FLIPPING WOULD!!!
Oh lets not forget how we hear his inner thoughts, and he constantly wants to have sex with Raven, fantasises about the life he would have had with her and also constantly thinks how much of a better wife Zirinda would be (oh she's sweet and sexy too, his words) the man is a scumbag!

* Sophia's betrayal...now don't think I'm letting her off the hook...what she did to Vinn was abhorrent, even after she fell for him, I was furious with her! And she definitely deserved retribution. Just not the heinous retribution that Vinn dished out (which no one in his life agreed with).

So as I said, the writing is really good and the story is also really good for about 75% then it loses the plot! That ending was 3 PAGES. That's all we get!

I was most excited for this book. @nicolajaneauthor did not disappoint. This was not like any other book she wrote and it was absolutely amazing. This is her first mafia romance and I enjoyed it so much. It included characters from previous books and i love knowing what is happening between them. I can not wait for the next book!!

I am going to go ahead and give this 4 stars, but I am pretty sure that it ranges between 4-4.5-5 stars depending on which section you're reading. I know that this is Nicola's first self-published novel, but it's almost like there's an added layer of confidence built in. It's like saying she knows that the King's Reapers are good, but this is so much better because it's her own, and it shows.

I don't think I am going to touch on the actual story in this review. Suffice it to say that it's an arranged marriage that neither of them want. Vinn wants the perfect obedient wife, and Sophia is anything but. She rebels against what she feels is oppression, often leading to knockout drag-out fights. It's nasty and brutal at times. If two people could be worst suited for each other, it's Sophia and Vinn. In fact, it's often nasty and brutal.

If I am not going to touch on the story, then how could this be on average a 4.5 star read? The story could be any dark romance with an arranged marriage. Whether or not you agree with their actions, it's the characters that compel you to keep reading. It's hard to imagine that they won't end up killing each other.

Vinn's not a new character by any stretch. He was first introduced in Wrapped in Chains as Leia's date, and it's gone downhill for him in the relationship department ever since. I have always thought he had the best line in the whole series. He's hosting a birthday party for one of the Reapers, and he tells Leia that he won't ever find someone because she was always meant to be his queen. In that moment, it's very swoony. Now, he's falling apart and can't see straight. It makes you question if this was always a part of him, or if his situation has completely taken over any reasonable thinking. I am going to vote for the reasonable thinking as Riggs is often his voice of reason, and we all know he's the last person to give advice.

Okay, so I may have jumped the gun a little in the previous book when I was ranting about how much I wanted Raven and Vinn to be together… because Vinn and Sofia are actually such a cute couple.

Of course, their relationship gets off to a pretty bumpy start. Sofia seeing Vinn with Raven immediately gets her hackles raised, and suddenly she wants absolutely nothing to do with this marriage—not that she really has much choice in the matter.

Then there’s Vinn, who isn’t exactly thrilled to discover he’s been “lied” to about Sofia being “pure”, alongside the discovery that her dad is actually really bloody seedy.

But the sexual tension between these two? Definitely there. Sofia is stubborn as hell, Vinn is the bossy alpha we already know him to be, and naturally, he wants her to beg.

They both make mistakes along the way. Sofia does betray him with what she’s doing, but I still feel like Vinn was far more brutal with his payback.

And yet, despite everything he had planned, when it actually came down to it… he couldn’t go through with it.

Because the man loves her too bloody much.

Honestly, Vinn really IS the softy I said he was a few books ago. Compared to some of the bikers and the level of toxicity they brought to their relationships, he’s practically well-adjusted.

This one wasn’t quite as dramatic or intense as some of the others in the series, but it felt like a nice way to bring everything to an end.

Also, can I just say…

I HATE HER COUSIN. SUCH A TRAMP.

And now that I’ve finished the series, I can confidently say Storm and Lottie are my favourite duo.
