Logistics: A Christmas Story

Rate this book
After being abandoned at the age of two and a half, Holly Hillman was raised without whimsy or fantasy. Now in her forties, she is the CEO of a Fortune 400 company. She rose to the top through hard work, but also by living without distractions or social attachments. Despite her rigidly ingrained dedication, Holly was content with her life, having never lived by any other tenet. Everything was perfect until she was required to give her DNA as part of a health check leading up her company’s merger with an Asian conglomerate.

The results of her test unlocked the secret of her unique ancestry, leading to her having to confront a fantastical truth that would forever change her views on life and reality itself.

A young family found Holly Hillman under their Christmas Tree on Christmas morning. They had no idea who she was or how she got there. Now in her 4o's Holly is the CEO of a Fortune 400 company. She is a career driven woman whose sole focus is on work. Everything in her life was going according to HER plan until she had to provide her DNA as part of a merger with another company. In her wildest dreams, she could not image what would come next! Her life changes on a dime when a shocking discovery is made. A discovery that opens her eyes to her past, present, and even her future.

This is a unique, well written, imaginative, modern Christmas story that sees Holly go from being a grinch into a happy woman. I enjoy how the "truth" of who she is and where she came from, set her free. She can move past her need for rigid control to being open and allowing herself to enjoy life.

I enjoyed the uniqueness and creativity of this book. This proved to be a satisfying fast read which left me smiling. This book not only had a little magic, but it also had heart, growth, love, and the feel of Christmas.

Well written, imaginative, gripping, and full of the Christmas spirit!

Apparently, I didn't read the description well enough because this one wasn't quite what I expected it to be, I expected more from the "change her views on life and reality" aspect of things but that aspect is dealt with in such a way that inner turmoil in that regard is largely avoided. That being said, it was a charming read that had me chuckling a few times.

While it's a Christmas story it's not a religious book, unless you consider capitalism to be a religion, and this is where I have a little beef with this book. There's this air about it that what capitalism needs to be redeemed is charitable capitalism and a splash of white saviorism which clashes with the cleareyed understanding of many things that shows up at other times. There's also the softcore version of one of my most hated romance trope ().

I know it sound like I hated the book but I really didn't (aside from that one aforementioned scene with the worker which I did hate). The mythology that Coppel created is fun and leaves a lot of room for more stories set in the same universe. It's also a no spice romance that works well if you're not the overly romantic type (if Hallmark movies are a little to saccharine for you).

Many thanks to Chris Coppel for sending me a digital copy of this book for review consideration.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a free ebook! When I was asked to review this Christmas tale, I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into. I honestly was expecting more of a horror/suspense after looking into some of his previous works. With that said, it’s not something I’d normally reach for- but I still found myself enjoying this one!

Definitely a heartfelt, homey Christmas tale with a twist!
You follow the story of an orphaned girl named Holly, that was abandoned at a young age. When she’s required to get a DNA test due to a job contract, she discovers way more than what she’s bargained for!

I actually really adored the character of Holly- a stone cold business woman that’s fought her way to the top of a major corporation. But with the success she’s cut off all personal relations, and dedicates her whole life to work. As the book progresses and you peel away the layers, you find a compassionate, and intelligent woman that’s lost herself along the way. She discovers the importance of family, friendship, love, & true happiness.

A short read that actually left you feeling satisfied, & not at a cliffhanger! I liked alot of the characters, which I was pleasantly surprised! It was also neat seeing Holly’s journey to self discovery!
Overall, I was pretty pleased with this book & enjoyed myself! Would definitely recommend for somebody wanting a cozy Christmas read this season!

When I was asked to read and review a Christmas story in April, I thought – Great! What a lovely idea! As it turned out, it snowed today anyway!
The story begins back in 1981, when Tony Brusco and wife Sofia are in bed on Christmas morning in their apartment. Their children – Joey (nearly five) and Mia (three) – wake up and find there are some unexpected presents under the tree…
Then it fast forwards to the present day, where we meet Holly Hillman. Adopted by Marsha and David Gelles as a toddler, Holly has grown up hearing passages of the bible, but being told Santa and the Tooth Fairy didn’t exist.
Now 43 years old and the CEO of Marshall Whiteman Logistics in the United States, she is the sort of woman for whom their career is the only important thing in their life. When Holly’s company merges with a Chinese one, the Chinese side ask that the top twelve executives of the business have DNA tests to check if they have any serious health conditions. Holly’s DNA test reveals something very surprising…
This is a modern fairytale for adults and is magical heart-warming and clever. It has some (very funny) black humour in it too and reminds me of Terry Pratchett at times. I really enjoyed it and challenge you to read it without ending up with a big silly grin on your face.

I tend to like horror above all else. I definitely started reading Logistics like it was a horror (I think because most of Coppel's other stuff is darker) before realizing it was more Hallmark movie. That said, the writing was good. Holly, as the main female lead, was well-written and well-rounded.

I also liked Coppel’s corporate take on the Santa mythos. It was rather fun to see how he tied the magic of Christmas in with how corporate America works.

Overall the novella didn’t blow me away but I don’t think it was meant to be anything more than a popcorn tale of second chances, Christmas joy, and love. A lot of tropes, a lot of convenient plot moments, and no real conflict.

However, I think this novella would make for a cozy holiday read for lovers of classic Hallmark movies. You know the ones. As a horror novella, only a 3/10 (3 is for the horrors of corporate America). As a holiday novella: 6/10

On Christmas morning, a 2 and a half year old girl named Holly Hillman is found under a couples Christmas tree. With no explanation or idea of how she got there.

Holly is now the CEO of a Fortune 400 company.
She is highly driven, and her only focus is her work.
As part of a merger with another company, she is required to provide her DNA.
Upon doing this, Holly's life changes instantly.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!!
It was well written , incredibly unique, and magical.
I loved Holly and how she developed through the story.
This was a wonderful and heartwarming book.
I am someone who needs a strong ending. That ties everything together and leaves no question unanswered.
And this book had an absolutely fantastic ending!!!!

A very special thank you to the author for gifting me an e book copy for my honest review.

This book is on my top favorites list and an easy
5🌟 from me.

If SyFi and Hallmark made a book.

This book has a combination of science fiction, romance, holiday joy, and cozy vibes.

Holly was a hard ball CEO who took nothing from no one. You can say it's because of how she was "raised," until her DNA results came back and turned her world upside. Holly found herself looking at life a little differently after the results.

If you like the classic hallmark or even the science fiction movies, this book is for you. The last few chapters took me for a spin in a good way. I tend to like thrillers more, and I definitely went in with a thriller mindset. I know the author has written thrillers before. but this one was more cozy, mixed with a little more science fiction vibes than anything.

It was written well, and the creativity and imagination I really enjoyed.

This was a pretty cute and quick read. Despite being a “Christmas” story, it’s not overly Christmasy. I would classify it as a bit of a cozy read, gives some warm and fuzzies a bit. It’s pretty easy to see where the story is going and the end did feel a bit rushed, but it was overall nice.

When I think of Christmas stories I think most of them fall into one of a few of well worn categories.

First are the modern Christmas stories that are meant primarily for kids - they give simplistic backgrounds to our customary holiday traditions and end with happy smiling faces under the Christmas tree. These stories typically involve some magical elements (think The Polar Express).

Then there are the tales meant primarily for adults. Many of these are thinly veiled romances, usually with the hero, caught up in the demands of big city life, returning to the place they came from only to discover their true love - right back where they left them - as they reconnect with their small town roots and discard their big city cynicism.

Of course, you also have the moralistic tales, which may be aimed at adults or kids - from Dicken's A Christmas Carol right up through Seuss's The Grinch.

If I had to pick one of the above categories, I would say that Chris Coppel's Logistics: A Christmas Story fits right into the adult romance Christmas story tradition, but with its own unique twist. I can't think of another Christmas story that throws in science fiction elements to explain Santa, his elves, and their ability to deliver all those presents on just one night.

This is the story of the emotionally walled off logistics company CEO Holly Hillman. Raised by two different sets of adoptive parents, she has no connection with, or remembrance of, her biological family - having been discovered as a baby in mysterious circumstances on Christmas morning in 1981, underneath an unsuspecting young family's Christmas tree.

Now in charge of one of the largest logistics companies in the world, Holly is in the midst of finalizing negotiations to take over a Chinese company in a bid to leap to the front of her industry. But the contract requires all of the top executives, including Holly, to undergo DNA tests, purportedly to ensure their good health and ability to continue to lead the firm in the five years after the merger.

Holly's desire to safeguard the privacy of all of the executives leads them to engage a small privately run DNA lab in Greenland. To ensure complete privacy, Holly and her team fly to the lab for testing. And here begins the real adventure of Logistics .

Logistics is simultaneously full of modern anxieties (with even a mention, though in passing, of the pandemic), and light hearted whimsy. It's the perfect 2021 holiday fable, and one that's sure to put a smile on your face.

Self-published author Chris Coppel has eight books to his credit so far. The son of Alec Coppel, who was co-author of the screenplay for Hitchcock's Vertigo, Chris has spent a career behind the scenes at major Hollywood studios, and has penned a number of screenplays himself. His career in film is evident in this book - I couldn't help imagining who would be playing the lead roles in the movie version of this book.

For it's light hearted science fiction-ness in a holiday tale, I give Logistics: A Christmas Story Four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

A review of "Logistics. A Christmas Story" by Chris Coppel.
By Aisha Faisal Khan

Thank you to the author for reaching out to me and allowing me to read A Christmas Story unlike any other out there!

"Logistics: A Christmas Story" by Chris Coppel is a captivating and thought-provoking tale that takes readers on a journey from the stark realities of a childhood devoid of whimsy to the enchanting revelation of a hidden lineage. Holly Hillman's life, shaped by the absence of childhood fantasies, transforms as she navigates the unexpected twists of her DNA results.

The narrative, skillfully crafted by Coppel, delves into the complexities of Holly's character – a driven and successful CEO who thrived in a world governed by hard work and dedication. The author skillfully captures the essence of Holly's rigid upbringing and her contentment with a life devoid of distractions or social attachments.

The turning point in the story occurs when Holly is compelled to undergo a routine health check as part of her company's merger process. Unbeknownst to her, this seemingly mundane DNA test unravels the mystery of her unique ancestry, thrusting her into a world where the fantastical becomes reality. Coppel masterfully weaves together the elements of Holly's newfound truth, skillfully altering her perception of life and challenging the very fabric of her reality.

The strength of "Logistics: A Christmas Story" lies in its ability to seamlessly blend the mundane with the extraordinary, offering readers a rich narrative filled with surprises and revelations. The author's prose is engaging and evocative, capturing the emotional nuances of Holly's journey as she grapples with the profound implications of her newfound identity.

While grounded in the corporate world, this Christmas-themed story infuses a sense of wonder and magic into Holly's life, challenging the boundaries between what is real and what is fantastical. As Holly's beliefs are reshaped, readers are taken on a transformative experience, reminding us of the power of embracing the unexpected and finding joy in life's fantastical moments.

In "Logistics: A Christmas Story," Chris Coppel has crafted a tale that transcends genres, blending elements of fantasy, drama, and self-discovery into a narrative that resonates with readers. With its well-developed characters, compelling plot, and a touch of holiday magic, this novel will leave a lasting impression on those who venture into the world of Holly Hillman's extraordinary Christmas revelation.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. The writing, the world-building, and the characters are all so perfect. This book was a joy to read.

I recommend this book to any fantasy, dystopian, or sci-fi lover out there and those in the mood for some holiday cheer coupled with a bit of romance. Logistics: A Christmas Story by Chris Coppel is a must-read for all Christmas and fantasy lovers. A short read that left me feeling satisfied, & not at a cliffhanger! I would recommend it for somebody wanting a cosy Christmas read this season!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I was offered a copy of Logistics in exchange for an honest review but I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading it.

Holly was found under a Christmas tree as a young girl. This, of course, causes issues for the people who found her. The most reasonable explanation is child abduction. But Christmas isn't about reason, is it? It's about magic.

Holly grows up to be very successful in the logistics field. So successful, in fact, that she is about to negotiate the largest merger on the planet.

She doesn't have time for a lot of things. Personal relationships? Slow you down. Pleasantries? Waste of energy and time. All business all the time. This is how you get ahead in life.

She has sacrificed a lot to get here, including a romantic and happy relationship. She can't afford vulnerability if she's going to be the best.

The company she wants to merge with has some image related issues due to worker conditions at their factories, what I'm saying here is they're monsters and treat their workers like garbage to keep costs down and profits up. But this is easy to fix when you're good at the game, and Holly is really good at the game

Something that's unique to this merger is a request by the other party for DNA tests. They want to make sure the people they're working with aren't health liabilities. Holly, annoyed with the obvious overreach, agrees as long as the other party does the tests too.

And this is where the adventure really begins.

Logistics combines some real world conditions surrounding important topics with real world mentalities of what it means to succeed and the lengths we'll go to do so. This is what makes it feel so familiar. Logistics then seasons in some history and science, not too much but just the right amount. And finally, it sprinkles a bit of the old Christmas magic on to remind us what Christmas is all about.

If you're looking for a fun and unique Christmas story this year, I recommend this one. I enjoyed it.

"She'd never stopped loving him for a minute. She'd just learned to lock such trivial emotions deep within her psyche."

So begins the foundation for the career driven emotionally stilted female "Scrooge" in the cleverly written Logistics: A Christmas Story by indie author Chris Coppel.

I really don't want to give too much away about this unique holiday tale that combines romance, science fiction, and pull on your heart string moments to leave its reader with the most content smile at the end.

The basics are at age 2 Holly was found "abandoned" under a Christmas tree and adopted by extremely religious parents. When they have a life ending accident her adopted aunt who lives on a commune takes her in. The drastic life style changes leaves her with the need to forge her own path and never have to rely on anyone.

She eventually becomes the CEO of a huge logistics firm with no social life abandoning her first love Will, who now works for her. When a DNA test for a work issue reveals she has no connection to any living human she re takes the test and finds her heredity is literally out of this world.

I enjoyed this quick novel that had me laughing and then getting teary eyed at the next page. There is a great deal of wit, social commentary, scientific explanations, business acumen, wholesomeness and a lot of love that makes Holly's journey an adventurous, fun and very special new Christmas story to add to the classics.

This book must be made into a movie! Sandra Bullock would be perfect as Holly and Chris Evans is Will!

I received a free copy of this book from Black Coffee Book Tour for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

If you’re looking for a light-hearted Christmas story with elements of fantasy/magic and a touch of romance, you might enjoy LOGISTICS by Chris Coppel. It’s not at all what I thought it was! Once I got to about page 93 I realized what was going on, and the rest was very magical and heartwarming.

The character arc is definitely evident here with the MC, Holly. She had an emotionally distant upbringing and it filtered into her adult life and the way she saw the world. But through science that leads to an unexpected family reunion, and a little bit of magic (ok, a lot!), her heart softens and her views change for the better.

The book starts out in 1981 and then switches to more or less present day. There are explorations of the harsh working conditions in foreign countries and the ignorance of other countries in the interest of financial gain (in case this sort of thing is triggering). And at first, the hard-working, dedicated, independent work-a-holic of an MC is on board. Her past has hardened her, turning her into an unapproachable minimalist who’s a creature of habit and strong-willed.

There’s something about her past, though, that’s unexplained. A strong pull to a certain part of the world. Strange emotional responses to things that she can’t understand… yet.

I got an almost Charlie and the Chocolate Factory vibe from the story, as a matter of fact! Except, Christmas!

Coppel puts a very unique spin on certain aspects of Christmas and it includes some modern-y fantasy stuff to explain how it all works. Quite imaginative! And many holiday-themed stories are for children but this one has an MC in her 40s, so it’s an adult-centred story for sure.

Holly Hillman is one hard-nosed businesswoman. Raised by adoptive parents who were religious zealots, she entertains no fantasies and few illusions. Her laser focus on her career has brought her to the very top—she is the CEO of Marshall Whiteman Logistics. Success has come at a cost, though. Holly has virtually no personal life or private time. And her approach to business makes Mr. Potter from It’s a Wonderful Life look like a philanthropist.

All this changes when MWL enters an agreement to buy a Hong Kong-based company, the Ling Chow Group. As part of the deal, the Chinese insist that the essential people at MWL have a DNA test at a lab in Greenland. Holly’s test reveals an anomaly, so she returns to Greenland for a retest, where she learns that her biological father is—Santa Claus!

As you might imagine, the story now requires considerable suspension of disbelief on the reader’s part. Author Chris Coppel makes a valiant effort to inject science (and maybe some pseudo-science) into explaining Santa, but there’s still more than a little high-powered magic. The plot teeters between science fiction and fantasy, and it isn’t always evident which is in play.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what pigeonhole the book fits in. It is an enjoyable, feel-good read with a perhaps slightly sappy conclusion. But as I’ve noted before, I like happy endings, even if they come with a dose of saccharine.

Like Scrooge, chastised by the spirit visitations, Holly’s association with the Jolly Old Elf causes her to re-evaluate her life and transform from an automaton-like CEO to a relatable human being. It’s a genuine pleasure to see this happen.

Holly was found abandoned in someone's home under the Christmas tree when she was 2 years old. After spending her childhood in both a strict religious home then later in a commune she decided to go into a field where everything made sense. Logistics. Holly put everything she had into a fortune 400 company, eventually working her way up to CEO. To get there, Holly had to make sacrifices, such as the only man she ever loved. However, during a merger with a distribution company in China Holly learns more about her past and herself then ever before.
I received this book from Henry Roi PR in exchange for an honest review. I was told that it was a Christmas story before I began, but when I started reading it I couldn't see how it would be. I seen a driven career woman who the only connection seemed to be having been left under a tree when she was two. Nonetheless the book intrigued me and I wondered where it would head. The more I read the more I started to get Hallmark Christmas Movie vibes.

This book plays out like a mashing of a lot of Hallmarks. Beautiful career driven woman visits small town. Secrets are discovered. Santa is real. Love returns. But, as with any Hallmark the fun is getting from the beginning to the inevitable end. How the North Pole is depicted is new and different and I really enjoyed the concepts throughout. I am glad that Holly changed her attitude during the course of the book as I can't say I liked her much at the beginning.

This one actually showed up on Netgalley right after last Christmas and I saved it for this one, because reading thematically is fun, and I enjoy Chris Coppel’s stories. I’ve read five of his books, prior to this, all solidly decent with Lakebed being a notable step up in quality.
Against that, Logistics is actually a step down in some respects. Coppel’s writing is usually very streamlined, plain and simple, but here it’s all the way down to basic.
Until the novel gets interesting (North Pole interesting), the characters are essentially cardboard, almost caricature-simple, led by a protagonist who’s got a money-counting machine instead of a certain blood-pumping vessel. A modern-day Ebenezer, if you will.
Then she finds out of her very, VERY unusual parentage, and finds herself transported to a world dramatically unlike she and her logistics-driven brain has become accustomed to.
So the question is…is she a cliché because she’s part of a moralistic fable or is she just written that way? Based on the surrounding writing, one might guess the latter.
But either way, she mayb be the center but she isn’t the star of the show here. The star is Christmas, North Pole, Santa. Which is to say whatever this novel doesn’t bring in narrative quality, it makes up for in sheer imagination by serving up the most awesome Christmas origin story. A wildly imaginative, genuinely original origin story.
So yeah, it really works for a Christmas read, simple and cheesy and sappy as it might be at times. Made for a fun quick read. Thanks Netgalley.

Uplifting and Original - Loved it!

In Logistics: A Christmas Story, author Chris Coppel seamlessly blends mystery and romance with a sprinkling of humour to create an original and page turning read which I loved. The protaganist, businesswoman Holly Hillman, has her life upended, after the results of a simple DNA test reveal her unique ancestry, in what is one of the most surprising plot twists I have ever read. This leads to her re-evaluating her own existence and the world around her – indeed, the book also ventures into the world of physics, but not as we know it!

I do not want to give the plot away as Holly’s origins are truly fantastical and it would take away the pleasure of reading the book. Suffice to say I enjoyed the personal and life changing journey she goes on and how she interacts with the other characters as the story unfolds. At the start of the novel, I found her to be a rather singleminded but colourless character with a tragic back story, and I was heartened by how she was slowly but surely transformed by events and her interactions with those from her past, present and future.

Logistics is a modern-day fairy tale which speaks to the reader on many different levels. I found it to be an uplifting read which underlined that it is never too late to seize what is truly important in life. Please note, a copy of the book was given to me by the author and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Logistics: A Christmas Story was a heart warming story filled with love, family and Christmas cheer.

Holly never knew her family. When she was 2 she was abandoned by her parents and bounced from foster home to foster home. She never felt grounded or loved. Fast forward 20 years and she is now the CEO of one of the top distribution centres in the country. But at what cost? She keeps people at arms length so she won’t get hurt herself. While trying to merge her company with a competitor from China she finds herself in Greenland where she meets a crazy group of people who not only help her find her way but also give her the only Christmas gift she ever really wanted…. Her family! Finally back where she belongs she learns that business doesn’t have to be her whole life, letting people in doesn’t always lead to heartbreak, and as long as you believe in the magic of Christmas (and most importantly Santa Clause) anything is possible! ;)

I really loved the authors story telling ability! I felt like I was transported to manhattan and then into the riff. I loved the character of Holly although it was a little frustrating that she kept shooting Will down, but I’m glad in the end she smartened up! And I will always and forever be team Santa!

Thank you to Chris Coppel for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review

The Christmas Origin Story You Never Knew You Wanted!
...And it delivers! To be honest, I wasn't quite sure what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book. Let's just say, I'm glad I did! Logistics: A Christmas Story is a creative, new-age take on a classic holiday story you thought you knew. Following the main character, Holly, on her journey of self discovery was a joy to partake in! And just when you think you know what will happen next, it turns out you have no idea. This uplifting story has something for everyone. You will laugh and you may cry as the story tugs at some nostalgic heartstrings. Chris Coppel has found a way to tap into the wonder you felt as a kid growing up at Christmas time. He has masterfully blended some sci-fi elements into the mysteries of believing in Santa and Christmas magic. While reading the story, I visualized the events taking place like a movie and I think one day it will be. It may even become a staple, yearly watch like, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and Scrooge. I certainly look forward to that happening someday but for now, I highly recommend this book! It is a great read during the holidays and will help get you into the Christmas spirit at anytime during the year!

Logistics

by
Chris Coppel

© 2021, printed by Troubador Publishing Ltd., Leicester, UK

1981. There are more surprises under the Christmas tree than Tony and Sofia are expecting to see and it gets them into a whole lot more hot water than they bargained for.

Present Day. A Fortune 400 CEO learns her true meaning of Christmas.

An interdimensional romp that's guaranteed to put a tear in your eye and a smile on your face. Holly Hilliman and her best friends learn the true meaning of friendship and of Christmas. It's not without its dangers, though. Spiked cookies and doors that lead out to the middle of nowhere, quite literally, make Holly doubt her own sanity, even more when she discovers why she's been Kork-napped.

Not only do I recommend this book, but I'm also off to read it again and again. There are so many things to see and do that one reading isn't going to be enough. I'm looking forward to another book by this author.

Happy Holidays!

In the beginning, you get the Christmas feel of the book.
It's Christmas morning and a family is doing what most families do on a Christmas morning - opening presents. However, something odd happens...they find a young girl under their tree. Logically, it wouldn't make sense as to how this happened and we can only, briefly blame it on magic. Nonetheless, you are left intrigued.
As the story continues, Christmas is forgotten as we look into the life of a young woman who is an outstandingly successful and independent woman.
You will be hit with quite a few questions but as you continue turning those pages, questions are answered and surprisingly, not in the usual way.
I love how fantasy becomes reality in Logistics: A Christmas Story.
Our main character has to go on a venture to find the answers the reader is waiting for. Magic is logical in this world and I kind of wish that the world really worked the same way as in this book.
Enjoyed it! It was a fun read and also, A Christmas story unlike any other out there!

Holly is an orphan. She is the CEO of a Fortune 400 company. Her career is her priority. She will not let anything get in the way of her work. That is until a DNA test reveals her father is potentially still alive. She goes to meet him and is shocked at what she discovers! Holly's life will never be the same. She realizes though that this might not be such a bad thing.

This is a standard overworking person finds the joy of Christmas story. I did think there were unique aspects to it that allowed it to stand out. Holly is never a full Scrooge, but shows she can be vulnerable from the start she just doesn't allow herself to.

I liked the things that made this book stand out from usual Christmas stories. There were certain aspects that were difficult to follow such as Santa explaining how everything works. Other than that I enjoyed reading about Holly and her journey.

An unexpected Christmas story for sure!

A perfect Christmas time read! A nice break from the hustle and bustle to read a light book about Santa Claus. Holly, aka Scrooge, is CEO who has no time for frivolous things like friends, fun, emotions, or her first love, Will. Will is her Chief Legal Officer was her first love who she dumped when her career started to take off so she could focus fully on her rise to the top. They are busy brokering a deal to acquire another distribution company to add to her already massive empire set to close right before the big day when there's a hitch in the contract negotiations that sends her on a journey that will forever change their lives.

I stumbled across this book on my Want To Read list and thought what a perfect time to finally read this. I discovered I could get it free from Amazon on my Kindle even! I blazed through this a 24 hour period. I highly recommend get a cup of hot cocoa, curling up in your comfy reading chair and enter another dimension.

This was a charming little read, a perfect show of gratitude and appreciation before the festive season. The characters in this book are fun to get to know. The storyline is easy to follow, and it made me think a little of scrooge at times, if I'm honest. When sophistication, discipline, and work ethic clash with festivities, love, and appreciation, we get this fantastic read. At times, it was quite quick transitioning from characters or scenes, but overall, it's perfect for an afternoon of reading. There are some rather spectacular, recognisable characters and settings within this read, the evidence of a brilliant imagination. I found myself turning the pages quicker with every chapter. There were times when you empathised with the protagonist, other times, you just wanted her to open her eyes. The ending, though, was a perfectly fitting one, which I would love to talk about, but I can't as it would spoil it... I would recommend this read.

After working more than 25 years in logistics, I couldn't resist this when I noticed it on NetGalley.

Honestly I hadn't fully read the description, but I loved this story. This is categorized as General Fiction (Adult) / Sci Fi & Fantasy; which is not my typical read.

I loved it! A wonderfully creative logistical Christmas story. Not terribly long, (listened with the help of Siri and text to voice) in less than a day.

Not sure how to describe it without giving away the story. Just read it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Chris Coppel the author and Matador the publisher for the opportunity to provide the advance read copy of Logistics: A Christmas Story in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is 28 Jan 2022. Probably my biggest complaint is ... this should have been released in time for Christmas!

I read and reviewed Logistics: a Christmas Story by Chris Coppel because it includes my secret ficlove – Christmas romance (nothing eases the seasonal stress like sweet romance (preferably in a locale where one can expect snow and a little love. I call it, “snowro” or “snowrom”).

The story blends science fiction with Christmas story with fantasy well. Coppel’s “elves” appear, at first, to be like many other elvish types (the Chrissy kind, not the tall svelte beings from LotR). Take their pointy hats off and everything changes.

And then there’s the Korm. What?! Love their shape-shifting abilities as much as their affinity for a good time!

I received a free copy of this novel with a request for an honest review.

This novel is subtitled ‘A Christmas Story’, and although I doubt there are any prizes for guessing who one of the characters is, this is not a story about Christmas. Yet, if you like Christmas movies, then I am sure you will like this, but I am not a fan of Christmas movies and I still enjoyed the book, and often succumbed to the temptation to ‘read just one more chapter’. Chris Coppel has an original 21st century take on the Christmas theme, though the story is much deeper than that. Many people have a jaundiced or cynical view of ‘big business’, often rightly so, but Coppel reminds us that businesses do not run automatically, businesses are run by people. And people can make choices, even multinational corporation chief executives. Don’t wait until next Christmas to read this.

Holly was found as a toddler under the Christmas tree of a strange family, with no explanation of how she got there. Her formative years were spent with two very different families, the most crucial of those years spent without fantasy or fairytales. She manages to make her way up the corporate ladder and is focused only on her career: no distractions, no decisions that waste brain cells.

It was no secret that Holly did not know her birth origins....but when her DNA results for a company merger come back, something isn't adding up.

This was a very charming Christmas story. Without spoiling, know that Holly's journey to find out her origins dramatically changes her views on life, love, humanity, and humility. Lots of witty banter and beautiful imagery. I loved the modern take in this Christmas origin retelling! Thank you Chris for the advanced copy.

Chris Coppel has a very cute Santa tale. Holly Hillman was found under a family’s Christmas tree as a young child. Forty years later she is the CEO of a huge Logistics (paper from Troubador Publishing Ltd ) trying to buy a large Chinese firm despite rumors of horrible working conditions. Then the sellers demand DNA tests and that sends Holly to a completely independent lab in northen Norway. A second trip because her DNA proved unique got her introduced to her father. I like the way that Mr. Coppel uses science fiction to explain Santa Claus and completely avoids any religious element. Guaranteed to leave a smile. This would make for a great Christmas movie.

Ugh one thing that really irks me is obvious areas where the author did not do a simple Google search. If you’re going to refer to a tv show as a “1990’s sitcom”, at least make sure it was from the ‘90s. Okay - rant over, now to the review.

Besides that flaw that I honestly can’t get past, this was an incredibly heartwarming Christmas story. Now for some full disclosure, I am 100% a grinch. Christmas is pretty close to my least favorite major holiday and these stories are just not for me. I also thought this was a short story for some reason. It is not.

We start off with Holly showing up under the tree of a strange family on Christmas morning. Obviously this goes poorly for the family since naturally it looks like they kidnapped her. Holly can’t express where she came from and ends up in the foster system. Fast forward many years and Holly is now the CEO of a Fortune 400 company. She’s a workaholic, a complete hardass and she’s working out a merger with a Chinese company known for mistreatment of their employees. One of the terms of this merger is DNA testing for the top executives of both companies for health reasons. After finding a lab capable of doing this discretely, we find that Holly has unusual DNA markers and returns for a retest. Of course a whole bunch is of stuff goes down. In the process she finds her long lost father and a new outlook on life.

This was sweet. It had magical elements and really brought about some fun for Christmas. However, with the previously mentioned research issue that I spotted, I can’t be sure other things were not researched as well. This leaves this book with 3.5⭐️ rounded up.
