The book was well written with only a few errors which can be attributed to sloppy editing so I opted for the 3 star rating. Having lived the entirety of my adult life in the Ozarks of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and having been a frequent visitor to Eureka Springs and The Crescent Hotel I am very familiar with the history. I couldn't decide if I was angry that 90% of her story was stolen. I am not sure that Lee should be credited with calling the story her own when she basically took the well established, albeit tragic era of Nathan Baker, and changing the names can qualify as original writing.
Also, the ball bouncing down the hall was borrowed from about thirty horror stories. While it's chilling it is incredibly trite.
Filling in a few new characters and adding a brief love story component made the story readable, but I am undecided as to whether I will read any other works by this author.

This Kindle Unlimited title caught my eye on a Facebook ad, and since I love a good ghost story, I downloaded and read it. It was fine; a little over the top (mainly the ghosts) and cheesy at times (dialogue), but what appealed to me the most was the setting of a haunted hotel, which was based on the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The author incorporated some of the sordid history as a cancer hospital with a fraudulent doctor who, as "Dr Pratt," is the devil himself in this novel (check out Ghost Adventures' exploration of the hauntings).

If you can get it for free and want a good diversion on a hot afternoon, give it a read, but if you want a truly scary haunted hotel story, you can't go wrong with The Shining by Stephen King.

I liked this story. I felt that it was missing some real emotion from the characters, though. It was like they all acted and spoke as they should, but there wasn't much deep emotional undercurrent at all, except that we learned about her anxiety, etc. But the romance was like an afterthought, as nothing but the actions told us that it was even happening. It was almost its own twist that you suspected was coming, but had no real evidence to back up your suspicions. I still think this was not a bad read overall!

Loved It!

It engaged me. I have a new puppy and it can be difficult getting her to settle. I started reading this aloud to her. She doesnt understand the story but seems to like my voice. So I read this to her every night for ten nights until I finished it.

It had some decent scares in it. But mostly, it was a well written story about possibilities we fail to recognize.

Well worth the time and effort to read this with my sweet girl.

Didn't take me long to finish this book, and that's saying something. I was easily reading a chapter a night (if not more) once I bought the book. Fantastic cliff hangers that make you want to keep turning the pages. Such a fun setting at a remote hotel in the Ozark Mountains. Creep factor will give you chills. Looking forward to the next horror book by this author "Hush"

Very good and spooky!

I really enjoyed this story! The descriptions are so vivid, you can just feel the spirits swirling about and almost hear the whispers of their voices! The clash of the spirits in the climax is reminiscent of Phantom of the Opera and I loved it! The personalities of characters, as well as the spirits, really work, too!

Being from Arkansas, and know the Crescent Hotel, which I believe the story is based, I could picture everything which was thrilling. A ghost/love story like I’ve never read before.
