Creating a new world is never easy, especially when the worst of mankind are hunting you…Emily takes on the responsibility of a town leader and a mother. So many lives depend on the decisions she makes. Emily knows that danger lives outside their walls and not just the dead. However, Sanctuary needs more people in order to survive. Can Emily let people in and still protect everyone or will someone put the whole town at risk?
This story delivers a gripping and emotional journey into what it truly means to rebuild when everything has been torn apart. The world is harsh, unpredictable, and filled with danger not only from the dead beyond the walls, but from the very real flaws of humanity itself. Emily is a powerful and relatable protagonist whose strength as both a leader and a mother drives the heart of the novel. Every decision she makes carries weight, and the tension between protecting her people and giving Sanctuary a chance to grow creates constant suspense. You can feel the pressure she’s under, knowing that one wrong choice could cost lives. The balance of survival, trust, fear, and hope is handled beautifully. The story asks an important question: in a broken world, can you afford to trust anyone? The stakes feel real, the characters feel human, and the sense of responsibility Emily carries makes this more than just a survival tale it’s a story about leadership, sacrifice, and resilience. An engaging, thought-provoking read that keeps you invested from beginning to end. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys character-driven survival stories with emotional depth and high tension.
I really enjoyed this one! The story follows Emily, a single mom leading a walled survivor community called Sanctuary while carrying her infant daughter, Hope, on her back, which makes her such a unique and compelling protagonist. I loved the details of how the community rebuilds society—from creating their own systems of trade to adapting vehicles and organizing events that help people hold onto a sense of normalcy. Marley the dog absolutely steals the show as both protector and loyal companion, and the relationships between Emily and the people around her give the story real emotional weight. Overall, it’s a thoughtful take on the zombie apocalypse that focuses less on endless battles with the undead and more on resilience, leadership, and what it takes to rebuild a life when the world falls apart.

This book brought me right back to where I left off. Seeing how she is helping to create a community in the midst of all the dangers that are outside her door. Great read
