Hopelessly sad and lightly drab Janet takes a spin with Lady Miss Jacqueline in this hysterically funny short story of a magical wig that turns a wallflower into the flashiest bulb in the room. Does Lady Miss go too far? Always!
Lady Miss Jacqueline swears that hair makes a difference. And it does! Now Janet is taking charge on the job and making moves on a local barista she's always shied away from. But when her brash new Lady Miss drawl gets all the wrong attention, Janet realizes that she needs to change her style - and her wig. It's all a matter of finding the perfect fit.
'FROM THE DESK OF LADY MISS'by Keke Palmer with Jasmine Guillory is part of Southern Belle Insults, a fiercely funny series of short stories set in the fully realized world of Keke's viral phenomenon. Take Lady Miss Jacqueline's read or listen to them at once, without stopping, the whole way through. You're welcome.
No thank you. I can't stand the one character at all and if were doing a wig changes the woman inside thing, I'm good. It's going for funny, bit is just nasty.
This short which I picked up on Prime Reading introduces us to Janet. A woman, working in an office building that has let herself fade into the background. But when she stumbles into a wig shop, Janet's life is about to get a whole lot more exciting.
The first wig, Janet selects is that of our stories narrator, Lady Miss. Janet definitely takes charge but it does get her into some trouble.
I give this one a two star because I didn't really like the persona that Janet takes on. Yet I am still reaching for the next one.
Once again another great performance by Keke Palmer the way she brings the story to life is amazing.. Really enjoying Janet’s story so far (That’s the FMC).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -Amazon Original Stories Collection: Southern Belle Insults
When the first wig makes Janet a little too sassy, it’s time to switch things up. Can Janet find a happy medium to her life? Somewhere between mousy and mouthy?
I didn't like the protagonist in this one. She's a jerk. She makes fun of people. She is mean, and I wouldn't even read the story if she hadn't mentioned poor Janet from the last story. At least we both feel the same about Janet. Janet still somehow became the main light of the story. With each wig, she becomes more empowered. To the point where I wonder if these wigs are magical. The story flips around like a fish out of water though. One minute you have the nasty lady telling the story, then it's from Janets' point of view. I prefer one viewpoint in a story. Plain and simple. Hopefully the next one is more my speed.
I really liked this one! I’m glad someone pointed out that Lady Jacqueline can be a bit much. I really like Candace too, she’s such a sweetheart! I’m hoping that with each wig Janet will grow into herself more and more
Our dear friend Janet’s tried on her first wig and becomes none other than the sassy, self-absorbed Lady Miss Jacqueline. Lady Miss makes it her mission to spruce up Janet’s drab life by being the assertive voice Janet never seemed to have at her workplace. But her strong personality might be hurting more than it’s helping…
Lady Jacqueline is a whole vibe. She’s amazing and she knows it. And she’s hilarious. And most importantly, Keke Palmer’s narration is everything. I’m gonna keep saying that in every review moving forward cause it’s true.
I think this was a vast improvement on the first book, probably because the story mechanics are more apparent.
Keke doesn't really do alternative voices very well. Candice and Janet kinda sound the same, and men dont seem that different either. But this is definitely a skill that not even regular narrators have.
But I love Lady Miss though and the idea of a magic wig and a magic wig shop is super fun!
While this one is not as good as the first, it is still worth reading. Keke continued with the Cinderella theme. The ending was just less showstopper than its predecessor. I do like the sense of humor in this series.
At first, I wasn't sure I could take much more of Lady Miss, but she grew on me. The transition at the end caught me by surprise, but the timing was perfect. I like that Janet, though transformed, is not "flawless" and is still learning. Can't wait to see what Chelsea brings to the table.
This short second installment in the Southern Belle Insults series finds Lady Miss Jacqueline and the magic wig improving her dear friend Janet's life and career at the advertising agency. But maybe it's a bit TOO much? Very fun with a touch of magical realism. Looking forward to more...
I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first one. Janet has returned bolder, confident and in charge of her life. Jacqueline is over the top, maybe too much, but let's hope Janet can find the right balance to live the life she desires.
This is the continuation from the first book and for some reason I enjoyed this a little more. Ms. Janet has definitely become a firecracker, lol. When Keke is performing this character, the inflection and sound of her voice reminds me of actress Jennifer Lewis. I'm starting to really enjoy this series.
Have you ever listened to an entire audiobook and then not been able to process what you had just listened to? That is how I would describe my experience with this Audible experience. What I can tell you is that a sassy black woman (yay!) dishes out some southern insults at people. Do I love the idea of insulting people… maybe not… but I thought this was ‘okay’ and will be listening to the rest of the series. [Listened to ‘My Dear Friend Janet’ after this one and suddenly SO much more makes sense]
I loved Lady Miss and the Southern Belle insults when they first appeared on Instagram, and now that Keke Palmer and Jasmine were working a short stories between the two of them, seeing the stories come to life is amazing and I can’t wait to read more.
This is a series. You have to read them in order. Keke Palmer has an outrageous accent. It's definitely Southern Belle INSULTS. lol! I can't judge based on this one book. It's short and different. This series is for the creative mind only.
The second installment of the Southern Belle Insults series was as delightful as the first. As before, KeKe Palmer nails the performance, with all the dialed to eleven energy called for by Lady Miss. On to number three!
unfortunately it also wasn’t what I was hoping for. I still like the idea and hope that the next books will change that, it’s just too short I guess, to experience and understand the whole story without missing the context. All in all also unfortunately a 1⭐️ star read.
