I must admit that prior to being invited to take part in the blog tour for ‘I Know Your Secret’, I hadn’t actually come across Jess Roy before. I do like to discover new authors and the synopsis sounded so inviting, so without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for an interesting afternoon of reading. Overall, I did enjoy reading ‘I Know Your Secret’ but more about that in a bit.
The characters in ‘I Know Your Secret’ were certainly interesting but I can’t say that I particularly liked any of them nor did I warm to them really. I just had a sneaky feeling that they weren’t who they appeared to be if that makes sense? I also got the distinct impression that each character was trying to keep certain things hidden. It could just be that I have read too many crime fiction and I believe nobody and suspect everybody.
It took me a little while to get into this book which has more to do with the fact that I was tired and finding it hard to concentrate than anything else. Once I got into the story that was it and I was away as the saying goes. I had my own theories as to what was going to happen and I had to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down another path entirely. The more of the book that I read, the more intrigued I became and the more of the book I had to read. The pages turned over at a fair old rate and I soon seemed to speed my way through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of ‘I Know Your Secret’. I found ‘I Know Your Secret’ to be a gripping, tense and dramatic read, which certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘I Know Your Secret’ is extremely well written. The author certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be a compelling read. For me, ‘I Know Your Secret’ was more of a slow burn of a read but as the story gathered momentum so did the level of tension and the story raced to a tense and dramatic conclusion. The story is written using two timelines. One timeline describes events as they happen in the present day and the other timeline is set in the past and describes what led to Amanda keeping a huge secret. This way of telling the tale works, the timelines interlink well and the story flows seamlessly as a result. I felt as though I was part of the story and that’s thanks to Jess’s very realistic and vivid storytelling.
In short, I really enjoyed reading ‘I Know Your Secret’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will be reading more of Jess’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
