Wimberley University #3

One Spring Break

Rate this book
Flat-ass. Chubby cheeks. Whore.

Pre-med student, Rosie Magee, has been called every slur imaginable by her obnoxious roommate, a foul-tempered fellow who drops food on the floor and poops wherever he pleases. If the insult thrower didn't have scarlet feathers and a beak capable of shearing fingers, she’d happily kick him out. But her roommate, a macaw named Baby, belongs to her snotty sister Maria, and according to their mother, if the siblings want room and board, they’re stuck together until graduation. After scrimping and saving, Rosie has finally tucked away enough money to escape from her boyfriend-stealing sister and her evil, yellow-eyed minion for one spring break.

Wholesome. Good guy. Boy next door.

Engineering student, Erik Snider, never believed good guys finish last until his girlfriend has a one-night-stand with a local thespian, Tulsa Lester. She wants to reconcile, but Erik can’t forgive a betrayal so deep. When he learns she’s moved on while he’s still mourning their relationship, his roommate hatches a plan for revenge—ask out the prettiest girl on campus, Maria Magee, and take her to the spring formal his ex will be attending. Though not the vengeful type, Erik is desperate enough to agree in hopes a date with a gorgeous girl will help him heal, but pretty girls have agendas of their own. If he wants an evening with Maria, he’ll have to take care of her demanding macaw for one spring break.

When Baby escapes Erik's care, Rosie ditches her vacation to help him find her sister's macaw. As they fight off parrot hungry hawks and navigate trees with flimsy branches, they form a bond that might just verge on love. But nothing comes easily for Rosie. With a man-stealing sister who lives to torment her, and a best friend Tulsa who tore apart Erik’s relationship, happily-ever-after will be anything but smooth sailing.

One spring break brought them together.

An insolent bird…

A hateful sister…

A best friend with secrets…

Will tear them apart.

OKAY, it's official, I'll read anything Sophie Stevens writes. Seriously, do us fans have a name yet? Steven's Heathens? Sophie's Choice-ers? Sophie's Sweethearts? Ok, I'm coining it on December 30, 2021 at 2:15 PM, I am a Sweetheart for life.

Anywho....so much to love about One Spring Break, the third in the Wimberly University series. When I first read the synopsis, I didn't see any names of people from Cassie's Temptation or Cassie's Fall (unless I missed these two in one of them somehow?!?!), so I was not sure what to expect. I'm not sure why I had so little faith in this one, but I had to give my girl Sophie a chance after delivering one of my most emotional 5-star reads in a long time.

What I liked about this book:
1. I love that Philosopher Dan and Freddy were in this one too, and Cassie!!! Philosopher Dan having Cassie's number and a reminder for mustard? Classic! Freddy and Henry? Umm, hello, are they getting a book???

2. Sophie Stevens writes good men. Period. They are complicated, heroic, and riddled with flaws, and because of that, not despite it, I love them so much! Seriously, whether they're playboys or relationship guys, they are always so sweet and definitely only have eyes for the heroine. Erik didn't quite steal me from Tyler, but he's still a big, juicy cinnamon role.

3. Sophie always leaves room for more and I hope we get a whole slew of Wimberley University books!!! Like Maria and Tulsa. Will they have their own book?? I think they could both do wonders for each other's big heads. Enemies to lovers perhaps??? Freddy and Henry, already mentioned and obvs adorable. Liz? Wyatt? Hell, even Philosopher Dan? I WANT MORE!!!!

Why it didn't get a 5-star rating
1. Why were scenes deleted??? Some things made waaaaaay more sense with the additional scenes!!! Like Rosie's mention of governmental flight regulations when Baby is in the tree. This came from no where without the background of the deleted scenes. Also, the deleted scenes showed so much more flirtiness and backstory for how they feel for each other. I needed these to feel complete!!!

2. Ok, epilogue. Way to tell us about something wonderful and then not give it to us. Does she say yes?!?! I'm sure she does, but leaving out the proposal scene was on par with murdering my soul....Too dramatic? Regardless, again, I WANT MORE!!!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The book is slated to be published January 16, 2022, and you all need to pick it up!

Reading the first lines of the blurb, I thought that One Spring Break promises to be a fun read and that was what I wanted.

Reading the last lines of the blurb, I thought that the premises are promising and that they offer good possibilities for the plot.

I’m happy to say that this story deserved my time and made me smile a few times.

I liked how the author built the relationships between the characters, their backgrounds which are possible and even probable. I also liked how subtly the old sentiments are introduced defining and accentuating the intensity of the new ones.

I liked a lot how the author succeeded to lease serious aspects among humorous ones, how the real issues of the modern youths, “their” problems, and politically correct views are delicately but firmly approached. Even better, Sophie Stevens just put them “on the table” serving the right amount of information and letting the readers draw the (right) conclusions themselves.

There is room for twists, unforeseeable and even some physical challenges and the author uses them well. The love story itself follows a sinuous path with obstacles and meanders because love is, after all, a serious matter to deal with.

I liked that, even I could say that I am a “bad boy” (not a bad person!) fan, this time the “Good guy. Boy next door” wins. But to be fair, I could think at one, two moments in which the bad boy vibe manifested.

"One Spring Break" is a sweet, amusing story in which the characters are tantalized - a bit - for our pleasure. I’m sure that are many others who will like it.

Enjoy!

One Spring Break is the first book I've read by Sophie Stevens. It is part of a series, but I didn't feel like I was missing out on any of the backstory by not having read the previous books.

So One Spring Break had a root-worthy couple, a sister I loved to hate, an obnoxious pet bird, and some nice plot twists that I didn't see coming. I thought that SS wrote these characters nicely -- not just Erik and Rosie as the H/h, but the supporting players as well. I was so upset by the relationship between Rosie and her sister Maria, and when we first met Tulsa as Rosie's friend, I was dying to know how he'd played a part in Erik's breakup with his girlfriend in the prologue. Well, you don't know people as well as you think you do, sometimes!

Most of all, I really loved how Rosie wasn't the typical pretty college girl, but still got the great guy in the end. I wanted more out of the epilogue, and maybe those unanswered questions will be addressed in future books, but I felt a bit let down by the epilogue. But overall, Erik and Rosie's story was enjoyable.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

This author is new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m happy to report that I loved everything about this story. Conniving sisters, hidden secrets, friends who aren’t what they appear to be, this story had everything. I liked Rosie and Erik immediately so it was easy to root for this couple but there are a lot of obstacles in their way, not the least of which is a very rude bird.

Maria and Tulsa are intriguing characters that play crucial parts so this wasn’t just about Erik and Rosie, it’s so much more. I enjoyed the depth of the characters and the nuances Rosie juggled trying to make everyone happy. This is a real rollercoaster but I absolutely love the ending.

I am voluntarily leaving a review after getting an ARC for Goodreads New Adult Book Club.

It was cute. Rosie was looking forward to her Spring Break vacation to Las Vegas but as she was leaving her apartment she sees her sister's pet macaw, Baby chained outside. Their neighbor, Erik, was supposed to be bird sitting. When Rosie and Erik returned to get Baby, Baby was gone. Rosie missed her flight to Vegas. As Erik and Rosie searched for Baby during Spring Break, they formed a friendship but they were very attracted to each other. So much so that before the break ended, they were dating. There were 2 people in Rosie that didn't want them together and these 2 individuals made it their mission to keep them a part.

It is a cute little insta-love kind of romance. I like both Erik and Rosie although they seemed a little too innocent.

3.5 STAR REVIEW

This is part of a series but the first one that I have read. I felt like the characters, while college students, were immature. They had college relationship issues but also some very immature reactions to the problems around them. Rosie has a sister who hates her, yet she does everything her sister asks of her. Erik was more mature with breaking up with his cheating girlfriend but the idea that he asks the “gorgeous” girl to the formal dance just to make the ex jealous was immature. Maybe I am just too far removed from that world.

The relationship of the sisters was horrible. I felt so bad for Rosie and wanted her to tell her sister where to go. Rosie gave up her spring break just so her sister could have hers and then there were so many lies, so many mean things said. It broke my heart to see how horrible Rosie was treated. I wanted Rosie to grow up, to become someone that stood up for herself. Erik tried to have a relationship with Rosie but he went about it in a sneaky, not always truthful, way.

I did not hate this book; I am not sure I will read more of this series but I’d recommend it to a YA reader. I wanted to see the characters grow and they did not do that.

Usually college romance is all about cocky athletes that are players on and off the field. Most of them fail to persuade me that they found their true love...Luckily this is not a story like this.

I loved Eric, he is an engineering major (also kudos for not one more business major), handsome, awkward, he wants a relationship, and hates one night hookups. I mean hello, he is a unicorn... He is faced  with a heartbreak in the beginning of the book and thanks to this crazy bird, he meets the love of his life: insta spark but the author makes it believable.

Rosie is a pre-med, gorgeous girl but with low self-esteem, thanks to her horrible sister and a birthmark that covers her face. One issue that the author handles with dignity as well. There are two characters, Rosie's sister and Rosie's best friend Tulsa, who are pure evil... Her sister is unbelievable cruel and Tulsa, is a two-faced hypocrite.

The way they interact with Rosie and Erik and try and break them, made me mad but thankfully there is a HEA.All in all, it was an easy, entertaining read and I loved the couple. Sometimes the good guys win!!

This is the third book in this series and is Rosie and Erik’s journey. Rosie is a pre-med student, who is stuck with her boyfriend stealing sister and her obnoxious macaw named Baby for roommates, and she manages to scrape enough money to get away from them both for spring break. Erik is an engineering student who has just found out this his girlfriend has cheated on him, and his friends comes up with a solution that he askes the prettiest girl on campus out on a date, which backfires when Maria convinces him to look after her macaw for spring break. When the macaw escapes from Erik, Rosie cuts her vacation short to come back and look for Baby. This is a well written story which has challenges to overcome, humor, emotions, twists, and love, which leads to an entertaining all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

This was the first book that I’ve ever read by this author. I’m not usually one to lion up YA books but the premise intrigued me and I’m
glad I did. This was the third book in the series but I didn’t feel that I needed to read the others

I received this ARC through #netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing this book.

This story was a breath of fresh air, it hasn't been done before, the author strings together a story that has you putting your laundry on hold, so you can find out what is going to happen next. I loved the symbolism, the beginning, the middle and the ending! You won't regret this book, it will have you grabbing more of her work off the bookshelf, as soon as you read, The End.

“One Spring Break” is the first book I read from Sophie Steven, and it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed the storyline with all the twist you don’t see coming. One Spring Break is the third book in the Wimberley University series that you can read as a stand alone with a HEA. You got to love Rosie strength and enjoy reading her discovery journey with the MCs. A must-read series, I know I will be going back and reading the full series myself.
