Good guys have intense chase scenes with bad guys who steal an advanced drone and fight each other - 4 stars
Life is given low value by the bad guys who scheme a way to be the most powerful force on the planet. The good guys, including team leader Hugo Xavier, are shown as nice family people who are dispatched on short notice to find who stole a drone and recover the drone.
The action starts in Denmark, shifts to Iceland and winds up in Washington, DC. Not really a travel adventure, but more like an all-the-time time chase scene that spreads across international borders with guns, knives and fists delivering violence and mayhem at every step along the way, glaciers included.
Physical athleticism kept my attention in spite of a few repeated phrases like "legs pounding like jackhammers" which need to be toned down. Running toward or away from trouble is sufficiently obvious for raising the reader's pulse rate.
In my experience having the bad guys fighting each other is uncommon in thrillers but is used well in "Vortex".
There were creative ways of fighting offered by both sides in the melee. Using an airplane in a most unconventional way was one of the best scenes.
This is number four in the Hugo Xavier series. I should warn you I’m a big fan of this author’s books. The book is full of all the action and adventure needed to push the storyline over the top as are all the books in the series. I really enjoyed reading this book it was a “real barn burner” as my grandpa would’ve put it. I recommend this book without reservation to anyone with a brain that needs a little excitement.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Vortex is the 4th book in the Hugo Xavier Series. During a violent burglary in a warehouse in Copenhagen, all guards are killed, and a drone is stolen. Not just any drone, but the prototype of Xeno-5, an autonomous execution drone that uses DNA profiles to hunt down and execute people. Hugo Xavier and his team chase the thieves to prevent a deadly attack, and find and capture the brains behind this operation. This book is action and suspense from start to finish, but didn’t rise to the level of Shadow Games. I received a preview copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing.
I received a copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Another great book in the Hugo Xavier series. I thoroughly enjoy this series. Hugo is a strong character with many skills who uses them to protect the innocent and stop the guilty. Pretty standard stuff. However, Mr. Forsberg paints his tales with color, excitement, ingenuity and not-stop action. His ability to put forth smart adversaries and smarter solutions makes for great reading. If you haven’t read any of his books, start now. You are in for a treat.
A pretty decent extension of the series, with a winner here. One more step closer to who the Shadow Organization is, and how to stop them. The plot moves quickly and is easy to follow. The main cast of characters is the same from previous novels, just with a different villain in every novel. The character of Hug seems to have one new family member in every novel. I think the main question is whether or not Hugo will be running Novus, before the confrontation with the Shadow Organization.
Another fascinating story. Hugo Xavier and his team are once again trying to solve a big problem. A deadly robbery in Denmark, how will this all end. Fast paced, plenty of action to keep your attention. Don’t miss out.
