The first book in a lower middle grade series about a witch who just discovers her magic. Since her eleventh birthday was more than three months ago, B (nickname for Beatrix) has been anxiously awaiting signs that she is magical, like her sister and parents. I didn't catch on right away that B lives in our ordinary world, as opposed to a realm of only witches, and must keep her magic a secret. B also has ordinary sixth-grade issues and is easy for kids to relate to. Love the rhyming and spelling incantations. Short, quick, enjoyable read, especially for children who like reading about magic and witches.

It's pretty cute. Unfortunately the 'big reveal' of our protaganist's powers is pretty obvious from miles away, but I'm hoping it's just an introduction to the series. Then again, the charm of this book was the girl's lack of powers and her interaction with her non-magical friends; I'm not sure the second book can have that charm in a magic school.

Great book for preteen's. I read it to see if it was appropriate for my daughter, then had to read them all because it was so cute.

Beatrix faces all kinds of magical challenges, and her adventures make the story engaging. "The Missing Magic" mixes magical moments with situations where Beatrix must solve tricky problems, which keeps the plot engaging. Lexi Connor’s writing style makes the magical world easy to imagine and keeps readers invested in Beatrix’s journey.

I learnt something from this book: 'i' always come before 'e' in spelling except when there's a 'c' before it.

This is the first book of a series that promises to become a hit among preteen girls. Beatrix, or B, is an admirable and charming character. She has a garden variety of concerns. There’s her fear of public speaking, the class bully and her older sister and the rivalry that naturally exists there. Despite those concerns, her biggest problem stems from the lack of magical power that was to show up on her eleventh birthday. Readers will find the solution enjoyable and will likely never view a spelling bee the same way again.

Cute, charming, I can see lots of little girls enjoying this series. She was good natured, trying to (mostly) follow the rules, and dealing with a little tween angst. Oh, and she's a witch. :) Wouldn't recommend to those who won't read Harry Potter, but other than that, I think it'd be easy to hand to girls. Don't see boys being very interested...

How can you not love a book about a witch who discovers that her magic power is activated by spelling? Charming, lighthearted - and hopefully inspiring to kids - Spelling B is a fun series for middle level readers.

Spelling B is worth reading but it isn't fantastic. In some ways you will find that you are very interested in the charectors and whats going to happen next, and then in some ways you are bored and confused with the storyline. But to be completely honest, i enjoyed many parts of it.

3rd-4th grade. Kylie likes this series because it has magic as well as a mystery to solve.

I think this is a very good book. She spells words, for example if she spelled dissaper and foucased on herself, than she will dissaper. It makes me really want to be able to do that too!

I really liked the book. It was a little teeny bit predictable, but most of the books that I read are like that. again that book was great.
